Freshwater Habitats Trust is a friendly, well respected conservation charity that works to protect freshwater wildlife through practical, evidence-based and effective nature conservation projects. We are now recruiting for this post: Engagement Officer in the New Forest National Park.

The role will focus on the delivery of community and stakeholder engagement across the Climate Action Fund project, YouCan, a climate action scheme, with a focus on connecting young people to nature and helping communities across the region tackle the climate and nature crisis. 

The role will also cover engagement activities under the Species Survival Fund, another partnership scheme, with a focus on action to halt species decline by restoring habitats back to the landscape.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who will deliver a programme of activities and events, citizen science surveys as well as delivering an awareness campaign to engage local communities and visitors in the protection of the New Forest’s freshwater and coastal habitats.

The Benefits Service within SEL Mind supports people with mental health problems to navigate the benefits system and challenge unfair decisions. The service currently operates across Bromley, Lewisham and Greenwich, delivered in partnership with local NHS. It includes dedicated welfare benefits specialists who provide casework support, and a cross-area team of volunteers who assist with form filling and assessments for health and disability benefits.

The Casework Manager will play a key part in the service, providing line-management and supervision to a team of welfare benefits specialists, and on-site supervision for South East London Mind’s weekly form-filling clinic. The post-holder will lead on making sure that we are delivering high-quality and accurate advice in a way which meets the needs of our clients.

We are looking for people with significant experience of working within welfare benefits, including providing representation at appeals, and giving advice on complex entitlement issues. A strong understanding of the needs of people with mental health problems, and experience of management and supervising the work of others (whether staff or volunteers) are also essential to this role.

Successful applicants will be expected to undergo an Enhanced Level Disclosure and Barring Service check.

The Café forms part of a central hub, housing a daytime café for the community and an after-school Youth Café that connects vulnerable young people to positive and inspiring role-models from their community, empowering and inspiring them to become active citizens in their community. The space is used for two similar, but distinct purposes and excellent working relationships between these are essential. This role is responsible for the daytime café and related income generating activities.

An initiative of the Matrix Trust, our café has built an excellent reputation, with the vision to provide a space for local people to retreat to, where they will find a friendly welcome and an opportunity to give back to the community. Key elements include: quality coffee, delicious healthy food, a calm but welcoming environment, and an eco-friendly, low waste ethos.

The Café is open 5 days a week, 8:30am to 3pm on Tuesday to Friday and 10am to 3pm on Saturdays. 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

● Oversee the efficient daily operation of the café, ensuring high standards and excellent customer service.

● Engage customers, take and serve orders, and drive sales.

● Ensure all health & safety and food safety standards are met.

● Maintain a clean, welcoming, and friendly environment for customers.

● Manage stock levels, place supply orders, and handle cash management, including cashing up and reporting till adjustments.

● Develop and maintain a visually inviting space with up-to-date menus and quality food offerings.

● Implement and follow food rotation and waste management procedures to minimise waste and maximise margins.

● Utilise and develop methods that encourage repeat business.

● Secure the café at the end of the shift.

● Ensure all food and drinks served are of the highest quality.

● Achieve and maintain an excellent food standards rating.

● Liaising with the Head of Operations, oversee maintenance and repair of café equipment, ensuring everything is in working order.

Customer Service

● Ensure customers have an efficient and enjoyable experience, consistently exceeding service and value expectations.

● Upsell products as appropriate and ensure the team is knowledgeable about the menu items.

● Foster a welcoming atmosphere for all customers, including regulars and first-time visitors.

Team Management

● Recruit, train, support, and lead a small team of paid staff, volunteers, and apprentices, including at-risk young people.

● Plan staff rotas, monitor performance, and conduct appraisals to recognise training needs and potential.

● Ensure the team maintains a clean, visually inviting space.

● Act as a positive role model for young apprentices, volunteers, and work experience students.

● Develop and implement staff development programmes, including team-building activities.

Café Development

● Develop seasonal menus and menu items to celebrate calendar events.

● Promote the vision of Matrix through the café.

● Be passionate about the vision of the café.

● Achieve café goals and targets set by the Board of Directors.

● Identify areas for development that will drive the business forward, keeping abreast of new concepts and ideas in the industry.

● Ensure that customers are given an efficient and enjoyable experience and that service and value expectations are consistently exceeded.

● Collaborate with marketing and business development to create promotional strategies, including social media campaigns.

Building and Event Management

● Liaise with the Head of Operations about any building maintenance issues.

● Promote the hireable spaces and arrange events that enhance the café’s offerings.

● Encourage use of the café by local groups such as creatives, book clubs, parents etc.

● Manage café events, ensuring the team sets up the space as required and that the hirers are properly looked after.

● Coordinate with local businesses and community organisations for partnerships and events.

General and Wider Charity Involvement

● Be a proactive part of the wider Matrix team, getting involved in projects that benefit the mission of Matrix, such as fundraising activities or team projects.

● Ensure knowledge of current Matrix projects and their impact.

● Participate in community outreach programmes and initiatives that align with the café’s social enterprise goals.

Manchester Mind is looking to recruit an Administrator for the Community Engagement Team. The role will involve providing administrative support for our Improving Physical Health Team. This team work across Primary Care in Manchester, Bolton, Salford, Wigan and Trafford, supporting people with lived experience of mental health problems to improve their access, experience and outcomes of mental health services.

The role will also provide administration support for the Discharge Support Team who provide support to people who are in the process of being discharged from Secondary Care mental health services. You will have excellent organisational skills and be able to support the team in developing missional plans, project work and operational support for charities, communities and religious societies. We work predominantly with the Methodist Church of Great Britain, although not exclusively.

We support projects of all shapes and sizes including helping churches decide their future, providing funding searches, advice and training, managing all sorts of projects from starting a playgroup to merging societies, governance advice and much more.  We are currently bidding for several large-scale projects which will excite and motivate the right individual.

The post is full-time (35 hours/week) and the annual salary is £25,485. We are based in Manchester and work on projects throughout the Northwest and sometimes further afield. Following their sons’ diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), Emily Reuben and Alex Johnson founded Duchenne UK in 2012. We are an ambitious, dynamic and impactful charity. 

DMD is a devastating progressive condition diagnosed in early childhood which causes all the muscles in the body to gradually weaken. There are currently only very limited treatment options for DMD, so Emily and Alex set up Duchenne UK to change this. 

Since 2012, we have raised more than £27 million to end the devastating impact of DMD.  We fund ground-breaking scientific research to find effective treatments. We’ve developed the infrastructure of DMD clinical trial delivery in the UK. We engage industry and regulators to accelerate access to treatments. And we’re here to support every family affected and ensure that they receive the best possible care. We aim not only to improve quality of live but stop the disease in its tracks. We’re doing it faster too, because this generation of patients can’t wait.

Job Description

This role plays a key part in advancing the fundraising of Duchenne UK to enable more investment into research, advancing treatments and supporting the DMD community.  A core part of this will be building relationships with key supporters, including our incredible Family and Friends Funds, corporate supporters and community of fundraisers.

You will be central to the development and delivery of key events and campaigns throughout the year to achieve ambitious fundraising targets. You will have budget management responsibilities and provide insight into activities to drive improvements and further success in future years.

The role will contribute to overall fundraising growth; ensuring the guiding engagement and fundraising principles are delivered, and that all fundraising delivers an exceptional and remarkable donor experience to which Duchenne UK prides itself.

Fundraising and business development

• Community
  • Key relationship manager for Duchenne UK Family and Friends Funds, engaging them through fundraising, supporting third party events and providing regular project and charity updates
  • Develop and implement the Family Fund and Community Fundraising stewardship strategy

  • Oversee management of regular giving, including working with the Communications team to promote this type of giving. Provide stewardship to Regular Givers, with support from the Fundraising Assistant.
  • Lead the identification and development of new income sources with the support of the Fundraising team to increase donations, improve the profile of Duchenne UK and enhance our reputation within the donor community; including corporate partnerships, fundraising campaigns, third party activity, challenge events, regular giving and legacy

SCEC was founded over twenty years ago to provide learning enrichment opportunities to primary school children in disadvantaged communities in south London. The Scheme Director is a newly created role that will be pivotal in helping SCEC extend its reach. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, you will help SCEC design and implement an expansion programme as well as coordinating the delivery of the existing schemes via our school partners. You will also serve as a trusted partner to the Board in the administration of the charity.

Similar to a COO, this role straddles the operational and the strategic. We are looking for a confident communicator and relationship builder who can work across varied stakeholder groups.  You should be able to grasp the big picture and have an eye for the details needed to deliver successful outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join SCEC on a transformational journey working with excellent learning partners and established leaders to improve educational outcomes for children.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee scheme operations including pupil recruitment, enrolment and attendance to ensure the smooth running of schemes and maximum impact
• Promote the charity to prospective partners and donors
• Support the Board in developing, implementing and monitoring an expansion programme
• Monitor and report on scheme performance and impact
• Prepare and manage budgets and disbursement of funds 
• Build and maintain systems and processes to support scheme operations, compliance and monitoring

At the core of Matrix our work is about building relationships to catalyse change for young people and their families. This role will contribute to this by supporting them in a variety of ways including, but not limited to:

Wellbeing Support in the Community

• Assessing the needs and strengths of the referred young person and help them identify individual goals to achieve desired change.
• Designing, delivering and evaluating interventions for young people which aim to improve mental health and well-being, build on existing strengths and increase levels of resilience.
• Recording and collecting data with various tools such as goal-based outcomes (GBO’s) and use this to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
• Taking responsibility for your own caseload of young people and families, some with complex and multiple needs. Involving young people and their parents in the co-production of programmes, activities and services.
• Working collaboratively with Surrey and Borders NHS Partnership, Surrey Children’s Services, local CAMHS teams and other community-based services to provide the most effective service for children, young people and families.
• Keeping accurate records of individual engagement, evidence of change and celebrating progress with children and young people.
• Providing records and reporting the appropriate data to ensure support programmes can be accurately monitored and evaluated. Applying safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Providing written case studies and ‘Moments of Impact’ reports as evidence of the effectiveness of individual interventions.
• Raising the positive profile of Matrix by building professional relationships in a multiagency environment including through networking events in the relevant local area, such as meeting with the community safety wardens, local schools, churches, Police and PCSOs.

Wellbeing Support in Schools

Our work in schools is varied and you may be expected to:

• Conduct one-to-one sessions to listen to, analyse and respond to the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs of young people.
• Manage, monitor and evaluate caseloads within your allocated school as part of the one-to-one support sessions.
• Develop and run a variety of contact points and projects for young people across the school, including group sessions and drop-ins and after school projects.
• Build good working relationships with school staff and other relevant local services.

Community Youth Work Community

Youth Work takes many forms and while the actual work is subject to change according to the current needs of young people or Matrix, it may include:

• Detached youth work.
• Running/assisting with after-school and/or holiday clubs.
• Mentoring young people.
• Supporting young people in a social enterprise environment.
• Research of young people’s needs in the local community.

Youth Café

The Youth Café is our flagship project and is a fun open access drop-in run by our team after school at our social enterprise café - The Hideaway. As a Community Wellbeing Practitioner some of your time may be spent assisting the Community Youth Work Team in delivering this project and it may include:

• Helping to create a safe, fun and inspiring environment for the young people that attend.
• Planning, preparing and delivering quality youth sessions/workshops.
• Building healthy relationships with young people that attend the sessions, identifying and responding to the needs that may arise.
• Promoting the activities of the Youth Café in the community.

General

• Contribute to, and be involved in fundraising and other activities that benefit Matrix, including whole staff retreat days, fundraising activities and outreach/networking events.
• During school holidays and after school, be involved in projects organised and run by Matrix, including holiday and after-school clubs within your allocated hours and as agreed by your line manager.
• Working as part of a team and attending team meetings, training events and participating fully in one to one, peer and group supervision.
• Working with children, young people and families from diverse cultural and financial backgrounds.
• Representing Matrix by providing a positive role-model to children, young people and families.
• Promoting our activities in both the community and in a school environment through; social media engagement and assemblies.
• Ensure you work to the Youth Work Standards.

About the role

30 hours per week over 4 or 5 days. 

As our Corporate and Community Partnerships Lead, within our Marketing and Communications team, you will be responsible for building and maintaining partnerships that increase income and diversify funding with local community organisations, businesses and other bodies.

This new position requires a dynamic self-starter with excellent communication and networking skills, capable of developing relationships that will support Action for Carers deliver services and support for unpaid carers. Engaging with a wide range of stakeholders you will drive fundraising efforts, community engagement, gifts in-kind, volunteer engagement and awareness raising.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a partnership engagement strategy that raises the profile of Action for Carers.
• Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with community and corporate partners that support fundraising, gifts-in-kind and volunteer engagement.
• Act as the primary point of contact for community and corporate partners.
• Explore and promote opportunities for sponsorship, donations and corporate giving.
• Support fundraising events and activities undertaken by community and corporate partners, groups and individuals.
• Support the finance manager to develop and write bids and grant applications for projects.
• Organise community outreach events, workshops, and information sessions to build relationships and encourage support.
• Represent the charity at networking events, conferences, and community forums to develop partnerships and promote Action for Carers.

About you

You must have:

• Experience working in community engagement, business development, or similar role.
• Experience in identifying, supporting and growing relationships with corporate partners and/or community groups
• Experience organising events and engagement activities.
• Knowledge of developing stakeholder engagement plans / strategies (preferably in the not-for-profit or charitable sectors).
• A confident in delivering engaging presentations and activities to diverse groups of stakeholders.
• An innovative approach to engaging partners and stakeholders with willingness to try new initiatives.
• An ability to work independently and manage own time, priorities and workload.

You will be able to base yourself at our  offices in Burpham, Guildford with the option of being home based for 1-2 days a week dependent on work pattern.
