We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic social researcher to join our fantastic Surrey Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) team.

Based with Good Company, a local anti-poverty charity, the Community Researcher role would design and conduct research on wider determinants of health (e.g., poverty, food insecurity) and their impacts on health inequalities, with a particular focus on co-production and other forms of participatory research. The wider determinants of health are a diverse range of social, economic and environmental factors which influence people’s mental and physical health. Systematic variation in these factors constitutes social inequality, an important driver of the health inequalities.

In addition, this role would seek to increase the capacity of local voluntary sector organisations to carry out their own participatory research, as well as supporting the HDRC programme team in promoting participatory research methods across Surrey and building the local evidence base on the wider determinants of health.

There will be a second Community Researcher post based with Reigate & Banstead Council which will focus on building the participatory research capacity within the local authority.

About Surrey Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC):

This role would form part of the new and innovative Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) programme funded by the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR). The Surrey HDRC programme is delivered by Surrey County Council,  University of Surrey (UoS), alongside local partners Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, Good Company and Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum (SMEF).

Surrey HDRC is designed to boost the capacity of Surrey County Council to do research, together with our communities, with the aim of improving health outcomes and reducing health inequalities in Surrey communities. Surrey HDRC will develop a sustainable research culture, build research capacity and capability, and increase our local evidence-base on wider determinants of health.

About this role:

The post holder will be based at Good Company and will work as part of the Surrey HDRC programme team, leading on participatory research and co-production. The role includes:

· Developing a programme of research on wider determinants of health inequalities, with a particular focus on co-production and other forms of participatory research.

· Strengthening the participatory and co-production research capacity across Surrey, with a particular focus on the Voluntary, Community, Faith, and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector.

· Actively supporting the wider Surrey HDRC team in promoting the value of participatory research and co-production across Surrey County Council and its partners and building the local evidence-base on the social and wider determinants of health.

The post holder should have demonstrable skills in qualitative research methods, including experience of conducting participatory research. Ideally, they will have an understanding of health inequalities and the social and wider determinants of health. Experience of working or volunteering within a community setting would also be desirable.

You will be a creative self-starter who will support the service and look for innovative solutions to support clients with complex needs. About the role:

Working within a passionate team providing an effective, high quality support service to address the presenting needs of clients with complex needs in relation to poly substance misuse, mental health, and a wide variety of associated issues (including: street activity, offending, physical health, background of complex trauma.)

The primary role of the project is to enable clients to understand their emotional and mental health needs and manage these effectively. Project workers will also support clients to develop their living skills, develop & manage relationships, build social networks and access education, training or employment, by completing comprehensive needs and risk assessments with clients and identifying short-term objectives.

Project workers will need to be resilient, innovative, flexible and creative. A commitment to working collaboratively and within a recovery framework. There will be an element of housing management work with the expectation that clients manage a successful tenancy before moving on to more independent housing.

The Project Worker role be required to work a rota inclusive of early, lates weekends, on average one weekend in four.

We're seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Young Person’s Worker. In this role, you will play a vital role in providing support to at-risk young people who are experiencing homelessness.

Job Aim:To work with the Youth Project Coordinator to provide a fun, engaging and exciting programme of activities for young people across the economically disadvantaged but beautifully diverse E6 area within the London Borough of Newham. You will assist in delivering against the partnerships successful EMPOWER youth services commissioning bid to Newham Council. The service provides 10 weekly universal activities across East Ham over 49 weeks of the year for young people aged 9-19 including:

• Three outdoor MUGA sports sessions per week.
• Three youth hub session per week which includes branched off projects such as Junior Gym, screen acting, Muay Thai, healthy cookery sessions, calming crafts and sports.
• EKO Pathways after school delivery sessions, helping to support children with social, emotional, behavioural and mental health needs.
• Outdoor parks MUGA session
• Year-round trips and residentials
• Youth Theatre
• Delivery of three-week summer holiday scheme which involves volunteering placement with accredited Sports Leadership Award for 30 participants and employment for additional young people. This includes Stepping Up life skills training and social action campaign planning workshops.

Job Purpose: To provide focused 1-1 and group family support for families with children and young people aged 0-19 years old (up to 25 years for young adults with additional needs).  This will be delivered either at the Family Centre, out in the community or in service users’ own homes. The post holder will be required to work with families as a lone worker. Main Responsibilities:

The Youth Participation and Support Worker will work with care experienced young people subject to immigration controls, to tackle the injustice and inequity of the systems, policies and procedures that define their lives.

They will support young migrants to evaluate what they have learned through their experience of being in care and going through the immigration system so that young people are able to recognise the skills and strengths they have developed. They will support young people to engage with a range of opportunities to develop and use their learning, skills and strengths through our Young Community Leaders programme.

We would love to hear from you if you have: 

• Experience of working in a practical support role with refugee, asylum seeking, unaccompanied asylum seeking and migrant children and young people in the UK.
• Experience of delivering group activities to young people.
• Ability to build trusting and empowering relationships with young people.
• Knowledge of the issues faced by care experienced migrant children and young people.

You will:

• Provide a high quality and flexible tenancy sustainment service to people with mental health needs. 
• Conduct regular keywork sessions that are innovative and engaging in order to achieve service user`s personal support plan goals to enable independence and mental health recovery. 
• Support and challenge tenants to improve their quality of life and independent living skills. 
• Promote independence, wellbeing, inclusion, and resilience. 
• Provide support to tenants/ service users to move on by resettlement support planning and exploring move-on opportunities including the private rented sector. 

You are:

• Someone with previous experience of working or volunteering with people who have mental health support needs. 
• A mental health professional with good knowledge of working with people with dual diagnosis and ex-offenders.
• Able to support planning and mental health recovery approaches with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
• Knowledgeable about ways of working with people with dual diagnosis and ex-offenders.
• Positive, resourceful, and resilient when working in challenging environment.
• Able to work jointly as part of a team and in partnership with external statutory and voluntary agencies.
• Competent in using computer programmes and databases.
