The Royal Scottish Forestry Society, formed in 1854, is an educational charity focussing on promoting the understanding of trees, woods and forestry. 

Every year RSFS puts on what we believe to be the most extensive programme of practical forestry events across Scotland.  The Society has published a semi-academic journal, Scottish Forestry, since 1858 promoting all aspects of good practice in forestry.

Having agreed a refreshed strategy in 2023, RSFS is now looking to increase its delivery resource. We are looking for someone who shares our passion for Scotland’s trees and forests to develop closer links with members, partners and stakeholders. Your experience in operational delivery will allow us to improve our practices and professionalise our delivery to secure a sustainable future for the RSFS.

Who we are looking for

You will be a personable, dynamic self-starter, used to being the first point of contact within the organisation.  As RSFS is a virtual organisation, you must be highly-organised and able to work independently contributing to the overall team outcomes.

The principal functions of the role will be to support the Board in advancing its mission and representing RSFS to members and the community:

• Support our five Regions in planning and delivery of Regional Field Days and the Annual Study Tour;
• Manage the definition, planning and delivery of paid training events;
• Maintain links with members, partners, stakeholders and sector organisations;
• Develop and promote membership of the Society to a broad and relevant constituency;
• Evaluate and implement procedures for RSFS, and as appropriate for Cashel Forest Trust;
• Ensure, in conjunction with our Secretariat, that RSFS remains in compliance with prevailing laws and regulations; and
• Other duties as required by the role.

Outline terms and conditions

• The role is for 21 hours per week;
• A full-time equivalent salary of £45,000 to £55,000, pro rated for the contracted hours, to be agreed depending on experience;
• 28 days paid holiday pro rated for the contracted hours;

Role Overview: 

The Executive Director is a new role for RLS. The successful candidate will lead RLS through its next phase of development, providing strategic leadership, promoting organisational cohesion and accountability whilst driving the fulfilment of our mission. As a representative and advocate for RLS, the Executive Director will oversee key areas such as organisational development, strategic planning, fundraising, robust financial planning, risk management, staff well-being, and external relations.

Core Responsibilities:

1. Organisational Development

   • Review and enhance RLS’s organisational structure and cohesiveness across offices and teams.

   • Implement strategic outcomes to ensure efficient and aligned operations.

2. Strategic Planning

   • Lead on developing and delivering strategic plans in alignment with RLS’s values and mission, incorporating regular reviews.

   • Ensure the sustainability of RLS’s mission and core programmes.

3. Lead the Management Team

   • Guide and support the Management Team, fostering effective collaboration.

   • Promote project integration, efficient delivery, and cross-team development.

   • Embed and promote robust accountability.

4. Governance

   • Work with and leverage the knowledge of the RLS’s Board of Trustees and thematic sub-committees to drive positive change and ensure sustainability.

5. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

   • Ensure RLS’s compliance with relevant regulations and effective risk management across operations in collaboration with managers. This includes SQM, OISC, LAA, employment law and regulations in foreign jurisdictions.

6. HR Oversight & Staff Development

   • Oversee HR functions, promote professional growth, and prioritise staff well-being.

   • Foster an inclusive and supportive working environment.

7. Fundraising & Financial Oversight

   • Deliver robust financial planning and drive RLS’s fundraising efforts in collaboration with management team and trustees.

   • Engage with key funders and develop sustainable funding strategies.

8. External Representation & Advocacy

   • Serve as the public face of RLS, advocating for our mission through media, events, and partnerships. Where considered appropriate, the Executive Director will be deputised by members of staff or management in external communications.

   • Act as a key contact for the Board of Trustees, promoting transparent communication between staff, management and board.

9. Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)

   • Own, review and implement appropriate MEL frameworks and practices. 

   • Implement progressive and compassionate accountability structures to ensure transparency across the organisation.

Person Specification

Essential:

• Proven leadership in an organisation focused on human rights, migration, or a related sector.

• Strong strategic planning and organisational development experience, ideally in a fast-growing setting.

• Experience of fundraising and financial management within the third sector.

• Experience leading remote, diverse teams and implementing inclusive HR practices.

• Deep understanding of the immigration and asylum landscape in the UK and Europe.

• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to represent RLS effectively to partners and the public.

Bristol Animal Rescue Centre is seeking an Interim Chief Executive to cover the CEO position during a period of family leave.

About Us:

Our mission is to ensure that animals in need within our community receive the compassion, care and respect they deserve. We are committed to helping, healing and homing animals for as long as they need us.

In the last year alone:

• we provided nearly 24,000 days of care to domestic animals
• we rehomed, or reunited with their owners, nearly 500 animals
• we delivered over 2,600 consultations through our community outreach clinics

About the role:

In 2023 we embarked on an exciting new 5-year strategy “For people, for pets, for Bristol”.  We aim to expand our reach to more animals and residents in Bristol and the surrounding areas through a more comprehensive Community Pet Support Scheme. 

We have a number of key organisational projects that need to be driven through over the next 12 months and so are looking for a strong and authentic leader to work closely with the Chair and Board of Trustees, and lead our Senior Management and Leadership Team, in the delivery of our services and strategic initiatives.

They are now seeking to appoint a Deputy Chief Executive, a new post in the Executive Leadership Team structure, reporting to the Chief Executive. The postholder will have a tight grasp on the overall operations of Anvil Arts, ensuring the continued growth of their reach and activities. About the position

This is an exciting and demanding role for an outstanding individual as the Freedom Fund seeks to deliver on its ambitious new strategic plan. Reporting to the CEO and working as part of the Freedom Fund’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the successful candidate will play a lead role in ensuring the organisation meets its strategic fundraising target by 2030. As a collaborative fund, fundraising and building long-term strategic partnerships is central to the mission of the Freedom Fund. The post holder will represent the Freedom Fund globally and lead the Freedom Fund’s engagement with private and government donors.  They will also engage with anti-slavery organisations, corporates, policymakers and other relevant actors.

The Managing Director, External Relations will lead high performing Strategic Partnerships and Communications teams across the London and New York offices to advance the Freedom Fund’s global fundraising strategy, targeting governments, foundations, multilaterals, ultra-high net worth individuals, corporates and academic institutions internationally. The successful candidate will be responsible for initiating and stewarding high value relationships across sectors and geographies, and of leading a professional fundraising, grant management, events and communications operation. 

The Managing Director, External Relations will be a global influencer and thought leader, championing and shaping agendas surrounding modern day slavery, and in particular the importance of working closely with frontline partners and survivor leaders. The Managing Director will be expected to speak and publish widely, champion and share best practices, and pursue innovative opportunities and connections for the CEO, and other key spokespeople. 

Responsibilities 

Fundraising and Communications

• Build on the Freedom Fund’s strong fundraising performance to date, take the lead on achieving the organisation’s new strategic fundraising target by 2030 as well as working with the SLT.

• Collaborate across the organisation to ensure development strategy and tactics are aligned with organisational priorities and funding needs.

• Ensure that comprehensive donor mapping and engagement strategies are in place across all sectors (ultra-high net worth individuals, trusts and foundations, governments, etc) and geographies, working together with the Head of Strategic Partnerships.

• Support and 'deploy' the CEO and other colleagues to engage with and ensure coherent messaging with donors on all levels and across all areas of interaction.

• Maintain an overview of the entire funding pipeline for all donors, including cultivation, proposals/bids, fund and grant management and donor servicing/reporting and compliance.

• Review financial and organisational management processes and policies - in close collaboration with the other SLT members - with a view to ensuring their compatibility with donor requirements, proposing reforms as needed.

• Develop and deliver future fundraising strategies in collaboration with the Head of Strategic Partnerships and with input from the wider Strategic Partnerships team.

• To champion and oversee the Freedom Fund’s communications, working together with the Head of Communications.

External Engagement and Events

• As an ambassador for the organisation, represent the Freedom Fund to key current and prospective donors; other external audiences and partners and in key forums as required. This includes both formal and informal presentations such as making speeches and attending conferences and other meetings as necessary. 

• Actively engage with and build relationships with donors, corporations, governments and other relevant high-level actors.

• Ensure that the Freedom Fund participates in relevant conferences, convenings, meetings and other discussions relevant to our mission and our fundraising objectives.

• Build and maintain relationships with anti-slavery organisations, private and government donors, corporates, policymakers and other relevant actors. 

• Share and leverage evidence, engage directly with key stakeholders, cultivate and leverage champions, publish across influential platforms.

• Help shape global agendas surrounding modern day slavery, and in particular the importance of working closely with frontline partners and survivor leaders. 

Strategic Leadership, Governance and Operational Management

• Work with SLT colleagues to develop and deliver on strategic plans for the organisation.

• Engage with the Freedom Fund’s Board members including through Board and Board sub-committee meetings.

• Develop and deliver on operational plans and participate in the organisational budgeting process.

• Report on fundraising and communications progress at quarterly Board meetings.

• Lead three direct reports, Head of Communications (oversees a team of 3), Head of Strategic Partnerships (oversees a team of 7) and Operations Manager.

• Collaborate with the CEO to ensure their external engagement efforts support the greater development and partnerships strategy.

• Ensure there is a close and effective working relationship with all other Freedom Fund departments.

• Oversee and run the New York office, supported by the Executive Assistant to the Managing Director, External Relations. 

Qualifications and experience

Essential

• Proven ability to win multi-million £ / $ fundraising commitments from governments, foundations, corporates and high net worth individuals.

• Enthusiasm for the Freedom Fund’s mission to raise significant funding for its anti-slavery work. 

• Ability to clearly and powerfully articulate and communicate the organisation’s mission and work.

• Senior NGO, government or corporate management experience.

• At least 10 years senior level fundraising experience - with significant anti-slavery, human rights or international development experience highly desirable.

• Business-oriented with a market-based, metrics-driven approach to funding and organisational management.

• Ability to lead a high performing team and manage organisational change. 

• Entitled to work in the UK without work permit sponsorship from the Freedom Fund.

• Advanced degree.

Compensation

• $219,336 - $242,424

• 5% employer sponsored 401k contribution (non-matched).

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Executive Assistant looking for an organisation with purpose, where your work makes a difference to vulnerable children every day.

As a key member of the senior team, this multi-faceted role will provide opportunities to be involved in all aspects of the work of the CEO office, including leading on specific projects, assisting in the organisation of special events and involvement with our work in India, Tanzania and the UK.

You will be the primary contact for internal and external communications with the CEO and our Trustees, whilst also meticulously administering and overseeing our governance responsibilities and processes. You will provide professional and confidential business support to the Group CEO, Directors and Board of Trustees, giving you a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in all areas of the charity.

JOB PURPOSE

• To provide professional and confidential business support to the Group CEO and UK leadership team, ensuring key initiatives are delivered by coordinating internal and external stakeholders.
• To support the leadership team and Group Board of Trustees to efficiently and meticulously perform our governance responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Executive support to the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO):

• Proactively manage and coordinate the diary of the CEO by prioritising and arranging internal and external meetings, ensuring they are fully prepared for all internal and external engagements.
• Oversee the management of the CEO Outlook mailbox, dealing with incoming emails, categorising and filing these
as appropriate, responding on behalf of the CEO and triaging or delegating to other team members where relevant.
• Organise domestic and international travel arrangements, including liaising with internal and external contacts to arrange
meetings. Ensure that time is prioritised effectively and appropriately with reasonable timings and rest periods.
• Work closely with the CEO to keep them well informed of upcoming commitments and responsibilities, following up appropriately.
• Ensure that papers and briefings are given to the CEO for meetings and that any instructions/directions are obtained prior to the meeting.
• Provide timely and relevant information to support decision making and planning, dealing with people at the most senior level both internally and externally and appropriately representing Railway Children at all times.
• Collate, prepare and disseminate information and data as required by the CEO (for internal and external correspondence,
papers, PowerPoint presentations, reports, and providing appropriate information for meetings and events).
• Undertake desktop research as necessary to support the CEO’s preparation for meetings and presentations.
• Project manage special projects for the CEO when required.
• Monitor and triage relevant social media channels and codraft content with the CEO to increase profile and visibility.
• Ensure all administrative tasks are completed on behalf of the CEO including, but not limited to, expenses and annual leave requests.
• Act with the highest levels of integrity, confidentiality and discretion at all times.

Leadership Team Executive Assistance:
• Coordinate, plan and minute leadership team meetings. Develop agendas and papers and ensure that key discussions and actions are followed up.
• Assist in the organisation of all staff away days including room bookings and catering, agenda organisation and logistical support on the day.
• Assist the Leadership Team in the effective implementation of our annual planning process under the direction of the Group CEO.
• Oversee the management of leadership team diaries and support with national and international travel arrangements.
• Provide administrative support and initiate planning for key strategic meetings, including venue bookings and logistics.
• Support the Group Director of People & Culture in the administration of HR matters in line with GDPR guidance, including recruitment, trustee engagements, DBS checks and employee communications.
• Coordinate Performance Management Review meetings and paperwork on behalf of the leadership team.
• Assist with the administration of procurement processes as required.
• Collate, prepare and disseminate information and data as required by the leadership team. Accurately review, proofread and assist with materials ensuring accuracy and completeness.

Group Board & Governance

• Work closely with the leadership team to ensure that there is appropriate co-ordination of Board, sub-committee and leadership team meetings and an effective flow of information.
• Plan and coordinate Group Board and sub-committee meetings including scheduling dates, organising agendas,
minuting meetings and circulating papers.
• Support the Head of Safeguarding and Quality Assurance with core policy documents, liaising with the leadership team to
review dates and ensure updated policies are scheduled for approval at Group Board and sub-committee meetings.
• Manage production and circulation of Board papers. Liaise with the leadership team to ensure reports are received to
deadlines, providing editorial inputs to ensure reports are of the highest quality before review by the Chief Executive.
• Proof-read and distribute Board minutes, ensuring timely follow up on any actions.
• Assist the Group Director of People and Culture in the recruitment and rotation processes for Group Board members.
• Liaise with our CEO, Trustees and legal partners to undertake the administration of our governance responsibilities.

General duties

• Uphold and work within Railway Children’s policies and procedures.
• Conduct yourself in accordance with the rules of the Child and Adult Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct in your personal and professional life – which includes reporting suspicions of child abuse or any other breach of these policies.
• Actively promote and embody Railway Children’s core values across the organisation.
• Travel to Railway Children’s field operations as and when required.
• Undertake any other duties, as appropriate to the post, as delegated by the line manager.

The Chief Executive Officer will: - Provide a strong and inspirational leadership to implement the strategic plan. - Lead on the on-going sustainability and growth of services with the Board of Trustees - Work closely with our Young Advisors to ensure youth voice throughout the Charity. - Champion a clearly articulated strategy to acquire new business and generate sustainable income. - Represent Sheffield Futures and its work effectively and imaginatively to external audiences and promote a strong and attractive brand. - Work effectively alongside the Board of Trustees to ensure that Sheffield Futures meets its governance and legal responsibilities.
