The Role

As Communications Specialist, you will draft compelling content for different audiences and support the Head of Communications and Membership and the Communications Lead to implement the communications and social media strategy.

The Stories Officer sits in the Marketing and Communications team and will focus on:

· Assist in managing storytelling requests from across RNID, providing vital support and crafting impactful and compelling narratives.

· You’ll be gathering and shaping powerful authentic stories that highlight the impact of RNID’s work, supporting RNID’s strategic goals.

As Stories Officer, you will:

· Work closely with the Stories & Celebrity Manager, identify, interview, and write-up case study stories from people who are deaf, have hearing loss, or tinnitus to support RNID’s campaigns, media, and fundraising efforts.

· Manage and update our centralised database of case studies, celebrities, and influencers, ensuring all stories across the charity are recorded for effective stewardship. Maintain storyteller profiles, contact details, permissions, and consent forms while ensuring GDPR compliance in data collection and storage.

· Collaborate with PR, fundraising, digital, and campaigning teams to integrate storytelling into their work, identify their needs, and match case studies or celebrities to relevant projects.

· Support the development and delivery of storytelling content across multiple platforms, including social media, website, press, and marketing materials, ensuring content meets accessibility standards.

· Manage multiple internal and external storyteller requests.

Make a Change 

Make a Change is a community-wide, early response approach to people using abusive behaviours (or who are concerned that they might be) towards a current or ex-partner. The model has been developed by Respect in partnership with Women’s Aid Federation England, drawing inspiration from their Change that Lasts approach. It includes three strands: expert support programme for perpetrators with parallel support for survivors, workforce development and community outreach.

Improving the safety, freedom and wellbeing of adult and child survivors of domestic abuse is a key outcome for our work with perpetrators.  The Make a Change model is a multi-partner project offering local areas a framework for delivering perpetrator work. Where feasible, we aim to establish partnerships with local survivor domestic abuse service to deliver parallel support for survivors (referred to as Integrated Support Service) as part the expert support strand.

Purpose of the role: 

The Senior Communications and Policy Officer will work with the Make a Change team at Respect to advance the development of communication and policy activities for the Make a Change model in project sites and nationally to encourage uptake in new areas. They will also work with Respect’s Communications and Influence leads to ensure alignment with the organisation's broader messaging and advocacy efforts, maximising the impact of Make a Change initiatives. Following a 3-month probation period, you will transition to a fixed-term contract. Upon successful completion of this term, you will be offered a permanent employment contract. A minimum salary of £39,695.24 gross (our salary base for people resident in the UK) will apply from the beginning of the probationary period. The salary base may change due to your previous experience related to the position, or your experience in animal advocacy (+3% for each year). About your role

We are a small and ambitious early-stage organisation with two full-time team members. Our current objective: to help the 1 billion chickens raised annually in the UK. By joining us as a campaigner who focuses on communications, you will work on the frontlines by shining a light on the hidden suffering of animals trapped on factory farms, and mobilising the public to take action. Your first task will be to help us convince the UK’s largest food businesses to improve their chicken welfare policies, primarily through crafting media stories and marketing campaigns that capture the hearts and minds of the public.

• Create marketing content – you will produce graphics and videos for social media, and utilise marketing tools to reach millions of people.
• Work with the media – you will engage with journalists, write press releases, pitch stories and be animals’ voice on the radio and TV.
• Mobilise advocates – you will write emails to our supporters and motivate them to take action with us. You will also organise and run street actions like protests and stunts.

They partner with schools and offer mentoring and workshops for young women.

The Head of Fundraising will lead The Girls' Network income generation strategy to ensure they can continue empowering young women from the least advantaged backgrounds. This role will drive the development and stewardship of high-value partnerships, oversee strategic growth in fundraising, and contribute to the charity's long-term sustainability.

It would be brilliant to have someone join the charity who has experience working in a smaller organisation, who is prepared to get stuck into all tasks required to help steer and drive the ship, focusing on, and developing the gaps across fundraising, and ensure the team are well supported. There are two direct reports for this role, and ensuring they are supported is a heavy aspect of this six-month contract.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a fundraising strategy to define and meet annual income targets from various sources, identifying opportunities for growth
• Identify, steward and secure high value relationships with corporate partners, Trusts & Foundations and major donors to achieve and exceed own targets
• Develop and submit funding bids for high value Trusts & Foundations in support of operational plans and agreed budgets
• Identify and steward major donors to meet future targets
• Provide strategic leadership and direction to Fundraising, ensuring the strategy aligns with wider goals, delivering high-impact fundraising campaigns and driving long term sustainability.
• Take an active role in the Senior Leadership Team to ensure efficient management of the charity, developing annual operational plans and budgets, monitoring performance and risk against quarterly targets and attending quarterly Board meetings.
• Work closely with the Head of Programmes to identify and assess new partnership opportunities to develop the strategy and success of the charity.
• Work closely with Head of Finance & Operations on data migration to enable effective fundraising and ensure a high-quality supporter experience.
• Report quarterly to the CEO and Board of Trustees on Key Performance Indicators and Key Risk Indicators, including progress against income targets and value of pipeline, working with the Head of Finance and Operations to align management information
• Ensure the Fundraising team are well supported to perform their roles, meeting virtually and in person on regular basis, conducting one-to-ones, annual appraisals and personal development plans to support learning.
• Lead and support the Fundraising Manager and Partnerships Manager to achieve their targets from corporate partners and Trusts & Foundations, tracking performance through quarterly reports, including pipeline values
• Work closely with Communications Manager to ensure fundraising opportunities and campaigns are coordinated in a timely fashion to the correct audiences.
• Handle administrative duties such as recruitment, training, performance management seeking support from HR as required
• Ensure direct reports are engaged and motivated and working to a high standard

You will bring:

• Significant experience in senior fundraising and within the not-for-profit sector
• Broad experience in developing effective fundraising and communications strategies to meet organisational goals, leading teams to achieve success
• Excellent written skills with the ability to produce a concise, compelling and creative case for support
• Financial analysis skills to track and report on quarterly income performance
• Demonstrable experience of developing compelling funding propositions to secure high value partnerships with corporates and Trusts & Foundations
• An aptitude for working with high degree of autonomy, managing multiple priorities and within the resource limitations of a small organisation
• Line management experience in a fundraising capacity
