About us
Who we are
We are RNID, the charity working to make life fully inclusive for deaf people and those with hearing loss or tinnitus.
Our history
We’ve been helping people with hearing loss for more than 100 years, and changed the lives of millions since we started.
Our key achievements include successfully lobbying the NHS to provide free hearing aids in 1948 and hearing-screening for newborn babies in 2000. We’ve also been involved in life-changing research and have become one of the UK’s leading specialist-care providers for people affected by hearing loss.
What we do
We connect people to practical advice and pioneer new treatments for hearing loss and tinnitus.
- We fund research to find a cure for hearing loss, and drive the development of new technology.
- We campaign to change public perception and policy for deaf people and those with hearing loss or tinnitus.
- We provide day-to-day support for deaf people and those with hearing loss or tinnitus
- We provide accessible information to help the people we support manage their condition and access their rights.
- We offer practical advice to help people protect their hearing.
- We supply communication services and training for people affected by hearing loss, including businesses.
Volunteering with RNID is a great way to make a big difference to the lives of deaf people and those with hearing loss or tinnitus.
Our staff and volunteers have continued to support people across the UK who are deaf or have hearing loss or tinnitus during the coronavirus pandemic.
In our Volunteer Big Satisfaction Survey 2020, 90% of our volunteers said they would recommend RNID as a good place to volunteer
