About the Council
The role of Council is to lead on the GOC’s mission to protect the public by upholding high standards in the optical professions.  The Council is composed of six lay members (including the Chair) and six registrant members (i.e. registered optometrists and dispensing opticians).  At least one member of the Council must work wholly or mainly in each of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.  One Council member acts as a Senior Council Member whose role is to carry out the Chair’s appraisal as well as provide a sounding board for the Chair and serve as an intermediary for Council members, Executive and stakeholders as necessary. 

The successful candidate will contribute to Council by exercising oversight, ensuring effective corporate governance, and making high-level policy decisions. They will be able to operate strategically and impartially; listen, communicate, and influence effectively; exercise judgment; and inspire confidence and support amongst our stakeholders. 

Remuneration and time commitment

Council members are remunerated in accordance with our member fees policy (£13,962 per annum plus reasonable travel and subsistence expenses) which is linked in the candidate pack.  The member fee includes time for reading and preparation.

The appointed member will be expected to commit approximately 2-3 days per month.  Meetings will usually take place via MS Teams but may on occasion be held at the GOC Offices at 10 Old Bailey, London, EC4M 7NG. There are occasional online catch-up meetings - these are currently scheduled on a Tuesday evening every 6-8 weeks, from 5.30pm – 6.30pm.

This is a part-time position offering flexible hours (21 hours per week) to attract the best candidate. Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, you will provide strategic and operational leadership to our dedicated team. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Deliver our Strategic plan: Collaborate with the Board and staff  to  implement  our compelling strategic vision for the project, ensuring alignment with our vision, mission and operational objectives.
• Financial Sustainability: Spearhead fundraising initiatives, secure diverse funding streams, and manage budgets effectively to ensure the charity’s  long-term financial health. This will include a strong focus on grants, bid  writing and cultivating relationships with funding partners.
• Operational Excellence: Oversee the effective delivery of all programmes and projects, ensuring high-quality standards and compliance with relevant statutory requirements, policies and procedures.
• Team Leadership: Foster a positive and supportive work environment that empowers staff, promotes professional development, and encourages creativity and innovation.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including local authorities, community partners, parents, families, funders, and the public, effectively communicating the charity’s  impact.

About You:

The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of leadership skills, experience, and a genuine commitment to our mission. Essential criteria include:

• Proven Leadership: Minimum 2 years of experience in a senior leadership role, ideally within the charity sector, demonstrating successful organisational management, strategic planning, board  and team leadership.
• Financial Acumen: Extensive experience in financial planning, budgeting, bid writing  and securing funding for charitable organisations, with a proven track record in results and diversifying income streams.
• Collaborative Approach: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build strong relationships, inspire teams, and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Passion for Impact: A deep understanding of the challenges facing vulnerable young people and families, coupled with a genuine desire to make a tangible difference in their lives.

Relevant Qualification: A degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in a business/management related subject or a relevant professional qualification

Dartington Service Design Lab is an internationally respected social research and design charity focussed on using evidence to help those working with children and young people have a greater impact. We have over 60 years of experience working across the public and voluntary sectors to improve the lives of children and young people. 

We are seeking an individual experienced in developing bids in response to tenders and other partnerships. The role will lead the end-to-end bidding process, from identifying and nurturing suitable applied research, service design and consultancy opportunities and invitations to tender, developing compelling proposals (involving the wider team as required), managing bid submissions, adherence to compliance requirements and deadlines, and supporting the team with preparation for interviews. Successful candidates will have at least three years’ experience in a bidding or business development role, within the social research, consulting or charity sector. The Role 
Are you passionate about supporting people-centred and locally-driven approaches to learning and research?  Are you experienced in community-based research, data collection and knowledge management? 

We are looking for a Senior Learning and Research Analyst to join our International Programmes and Research Team. Supported by our Learning and Impact Manager and working alongside our Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Analyst and team of researchers, you will be responsible for consolidating and managing a central database and knowledge system that will underpin Peace Direct’s learning loop with specific emphasis on locally-led peacebuilding initiatives in Afghanistan, eastern DRC, Mali and Sudan.

This work is integral to our decolonised ways of working and will form an important part of our multi-year ‘Local First: Transforming the Peacebuilding System’ programme funded by the Dutch MfA.

This is a role for someone with a passion for peacebuilding and local leadership and a strong commitment to shifting power in the international system.  You will have excellent analytical skills with experience of developing research, information or MEL systems in the international development sector.

Working in partnership with peacebuilders in francophone countries means the ability to work in French (proficiency level B2 or above) is a must and as such will be tested in interview.  Added to this is the requirement for experience of processing qualitative and quantitative data using various approaches, including working with local knowledge systems, which will be highly valuable in this role.

Part 1: Role Purpose:

We are seeking an outstanding Programmes Officer for an exciting opportunity to support Street Child’s programme portfolio in Sierra Leone. The key objectives of this role are to work closely with Street Child’s national partner to support the effective implementation of adaptive programming, and to support accurate and timely donor reporting across a range of institutional, trust & foundations, and corporate donors. The ideal candidate will have strong written and excel skills, with experience of MEAL and financial management processes, and a strong preference for German language skills and experience of working with Bengo funding. The role will include regular, detailed interaction with Street Child’s UK and European fundraising community, in support of donor reporting and future funding opportunities

The role holder will work in close collaboration with Street Child’s regional Head of Programmes, based in Freetown, as well as partner Programmes, MEAL and Finance teams to coordinate timely and quality implementation and reporting across the programmes portfolio.

Part 2: Key Responsibilities:

1) Reporting & Programme Funding Engagement – 35%

• Review narrative and financial quarterly reporting from country teams and provide feedback.
• Lead on the consolidation of narrative reporting (low-mid value donors) for a variety of donors within the portfolio.
• Ensure regular information flow to Street Child communications and fundraising teams, inclusive of collection and drafting of case studies and photos.
• Supporting income-generation opportunities - potentially including supporting donor visits, in-country donor engagement and broad-based support to the group’s global programme-funding efforts for Sierra Leone.

2) Programme & MEAL Management – 35%

• Work in collaboration with national partner and cross-country implementation teams across Liberia and Sierra Leone to ensure quality and timely implementation of project activities.
• Work alongside social, enterprise and education teams across both countries to support a joined-up approach to project implementation and MEAL, ensuring relevant data are collected with due care and utilised for project planning, reporting and learning.
• Provide strong support to programme staff and partners in Sierra Leone in programme and MEAL department.
• Alongside colleagues provide training, guidance and advice to partner delivery staff to ensure effective and accurate use of programme documents and tools.
• In liaison with Safeguarding Focal Points monitor safeguarding policies ensuring adequate implementation of policies and procedures, and support to close feedback loops with partners & project participants.

3) Financial Support – 25%

• Support the country teams in compiling requisitions in line with programme forecasts and budgets.
• Support on the collation of financial reporting requirements for low-mid value donors.
• Support on tracking of donors & match funding.

4) Other – 5%

London's Air Ambulance treats patients who experience critical injury in the capital and support them and their families on a road to recovery. This is only possible through close collaboration between  London's Air Ambulance Charity, the London Ambulance Service (LAS), Barts Health NHS Trust (Barts), London's Major Trauma Centres and the wider Major Trauma Networks, to deliver groundbreaking care and save lives. To deliver this service the charity is split across two locations, with offices in Mansell St and in the Royal London Hospital.

London's Air Ambulance Charity has recently agreed an ambitious 15-year strategy to deliver the best possible care to the people of London. This strategy will involve growth into new areas of work, more complexity in income and expenditure streams, and an increased need for strong financial leadership to guide the charity, its staff and its board of trustees.

The Head of FP&A is a key member of the finance team and, alongside the Head of Financial Accounting, will help shape the strategic management and direction of the team. The Head of FP&A is a key senior role in the charity to support the Directors, Trustees and budget holders to understand and interpret the charity's finances.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, IT and Facilities, the Head of FP&A will lead on the charity's financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, as well as having a key role in the long-term strategic financial planning process. The Head of FP&A will manage the Finance Business Partnering function which provides expert support and guidance to budget holders and key stakeholders across the charity.

Key areas of responsibilities;

• Lead the finance business partnering function, which provides support and guidance to budget holders and key stakeholders across the charity
• Financial evaluation of project proposals to support management decision-making, providing expertise on financial modelling, NPV, ROI, and sensitivity analysis
• Ensure that staff and trustees are provided with useful, relevant and insightful financial information in line with agreed deadlines, and that they are supported to use it effectively 
• Lead on strategic financial reporting and analysis in line with plans
• Lead and manage the design and build of financial models to support strategic planning and the impact of projects and forecasting across the charity
• Working with the DFIF to develop dashboards and financial key performance indicators for the charity
• Lead and manage the charity's budgeting process, developing budgeting models and tools, and interpreting financial information to give a clear picture of the charity's short and long term financial position
• Work closely with the Head of Financial Accounts to ensure that strategic and operational goals are aligned and to encourage collaboration in the finance team

The Role

You will provide administration, clerkship and governance support to other charities to help them run more efficiently, meet charitable objects and make life easier for Trustees. You will be responsible for the growth, development and management of a portfolio of charitable trusts. About You

We are looking for an experienced administrator with excellent organisational, time management and communication skills. You will be able to liaise effectively with individuals and agencies across the private, public and voluntary sectors and with governmental departments.

You will have experience of working within a charitable or government/legal services environment and although not essential, having an understanding of supporting a governance function in an administration capacity would be an advantage.

Financial Accountant – Process & System Improvement

Exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant to join a world renowned international humanitarian charity during a time of growth and expansion. The successful individual will play a central role in helping the organisation be more effective and efficient. You will work towards these ambitions through developing and implementing changes to finance processes and systems. This will be achieved by leading on a portfolio of improvement projects. In addition, the role-holder will use their skills in Excel, accounting software and reporting to provide ad hoc support to the finance team by identifying and implementing iterative improvements to finance processes and systems where needed.

Key areas of responsibility:

• Design of an effective and sustainable process for a purchase to pay procedure, which includes the payments of expenses and credit cards (seeking significant improvements to current procedures).
• Developing a business case for possible new systems which may be required to deliver new procedures.
• Working with the fundraising team to improve the flow of data between the fundraising database and finance system, including ensuring the coding structure is fit for purpose.
• Commission a review of tax and residency compliance for payrolled staff by working with HR and extemal advisors.
• Assist with embedding knowledge of new processes with relevant non-finance teams / colleagues in relation to key taxation compliance areas, especially relating to fundraising and HR activities.
• Documentation of Finance procedures, as well as the communication, implementation and embedding of policies and processes within finance and the wider office.
• Provide support from the finance function to the fundraising team during the fundraising team's project to introduce a legacy administration database and associated processes.

Who are we looking for?

• A formally qualified Accountant 
• Exposure with designing and implementing process change and improvements.
• Familiarity with software implementation (preferably purchase to pay software).

People’s Economy aims to build the agency and power of people facing injustice and working for social change so that they have the expertise, capabilities and resources to develop their own analysis of how the economic system is a root cause of the injustice they face, develop strategies to change it and then take action with others. Our vision is for a world with economies that meet the needs and priorities of people currently experiencing economic injustice.

The Movement Collaboration Lead or Senior Movement Collaboration Lead (depending on experience) will work closely with the Programme Director and the Programme Team to lead the development and delivery of an exciting emerging programme of work building collaboration for economic system change between grassroots groups and new economy organisations. 

We are looking for people who are: passionate about addressing economic injustice, are excited about the role of collaboration in creating systems change and capable of creating partnerships and strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.

The first twelve months of this programme will take an action inquiry approach to facilitate a mixed group of new economy organisations and grassroots groups through a collaborative process that will develop shared knowledge and practice about  how we  can effectively and equitably collaborate on economic systems change work through practical experiments, facilitated dialogue and collaborative research.

The role will involve responsibilities for project managing and delivering this work including programme development and delivery, developing partnerships, changemaker recruitment and support, conducting desk research and interviews, managing and running events, supporting project related fundraising, conducting project learning and evaluation and writing a learning report about the project. 

Following this first year we plan to scale work on supporting collaboration between grassroots groups and new economy organisations, subject to funding we hope this could become a permanent role.

All programme roles in the People’s Economy team support work across the programme team and we see a postholder likely working on the Action Inquiry for 0.4 FTE and supporting other work strands depending on their relevant skills, experiences and interests for 0.2 FTE.

Project Development

• Working closely with the Programme Director and the Programme Team, lead the translation of existing strategic thinking, planning and relationship building into a project plan.
• Working closely with the Programme Director and the Programme Team, contribute to business planning and fundraising for future development of the action inquiry beyond the first year.
• Working closely with Programme Director lead outreach and relationship building with new economy organisations, funders and other relevant stakeholders.
• Working closely with the Head of Community, lead outreach and relationship building with changemakers and grassroots groups for the action inquiry.
• Working closely with the Programme Director, develop a plan for learning and evaluation of the project.

Project Delivery

• Working closely with the Programme Team, coordinate the delivery of the action inquiry.
• Lead on organising the logistics and resources required to effectively deliver the action inquiry 
• Working closely with the Programme Team, recruit and onboard changemakers to the project
• With support from the Head of Training, contribute to the delivery of learning and skills sessions as part of the inquiry
• Manage and execute the delivery of events as part of the action inquiry
• Maintain relationships with changemakers while they are involved in the project and act as a key point of contact
• Working closely with the Programme Team, coordinate the monitoring, evaluation and learning of the project
