We are seeking a fully or part-qualified management accountant with experience in budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis, to work with the UK’s leading fostering charity and membership organisation. 

Position: Management Accountant

Location: Hybrid: This role can be based in any of our offices (London, Cardiff, Belfast or Glasgow) or from home. Some travel to London may be required.

Salary: £42,000-£47,000 + London weighting if eligible

What you’ll be doing: 

As Management Accountant you will provide high quality reporting and analysis to budget holders, assisting with budgets and management accounts reporting and improving the impact and understanding of financial reporting.

Primary objectives of the role are: 

• Build partnerships with all lead managers and their teams to support effective budget management and financial compliance Assist with planning and reporting of the annual budgets 

• Support grant and donor reporting with accurate financial data 

• Ensure timely monthly closure and reconciliation of accounts and assist in the preparation of accurate and timely management accounts

• Identify clear goals, objectives, and responsibilities for individual team members.
• Ensure that there are effective development plans in place, that regular appraisals are carried out, and any capability and conduct issues are managed effectively.
• Provide coaching and other support to individual team members as required and encourage their professional and personal development.

3. Reporting and insight

• Monitor expenditure against budget, investigate and explain variances, and produce monthly budget holder reports.
• Support budget holders in understanding and monitoring their expenditure.

4. Collaboration

•  Provide support to the Financial Planning and Analysis sub-team by the provision of transactional data/information as required.
• Collaborate effectively within the Finance team to enhance performance and ensure alignment with organisational objectives.
• Work with internal/external auditors and other stakeholders are required. 

5. Business partnering

• Provision of business partnering support to the Foundation’s core teams (People & Culture, Corporate Communications, and Operations):
• Build, maintain and develop effective relationships with members of the core teams and work closely with them to improve mutual knowledge and financial understanding.
• Develop the business partner role into one that is able to deliver effective financial performance information, support operational decision making, and support the development of a culture of value-for-money within the core teams.
• Work with the Head of Finance/Finance Director where strategic decision support and forward-looking insight/analysis is required.

Knowledge and qualifications 

• Qualified or part-qualified accountant (e.g., ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent) or qualified accounting technician (e.g. AAT).
• Understanding of the accounting framework and financial challenges for the charity sector.
• Commercial awareness.

Experience

• Demonstrable experience of managing multiple staff in a busy, transaction focussed team.
• Solid experience of purchase ledger, payment processes and bank reconciliations.
• Demonstrable experience of producing management information.
• Established track record of cultivating successful business relationships and partnerships.
• Some experience within the commercial sector is desirable.

Location: Central Services Office in Marlow

This is a newly created role which is being introduced to support the centralisation and future growth of the Trust. This hands-on role will be responsible for preparation of monthly management accounts, ensuring all transactions and month-end processes are carried out, preparation of balance sheet, capital projects and fixed assets reconciliations , line management of finance officers and assistants, as well as oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable and VAT returns. You will be involved in cash flow forecasting, treasury/banking processes, budgeting/forecasting process, monthly reporting, variance analysis and more. You will support the CFO and the Business Manager, and work closely with all schools’ leadership teams and Headteachers. 

The successful candidate will have previous financial experience and recognised accounting qualification, ideally in a school environment, and will be flexible and able to demonstrate an ability to adapt to a changing environment. You will be professional in your approach to all aspects of the role, extremely well organised, a team player and competent with accounting and procurement software, MsOffice and Google Suites.

Key Responsibilities

Business partnership

• Provide a full business partnering support to the Endowment business unit:
• Build, maintain and develop effective relationships with members of the Endowment team and work closely with them to improve mutual knowledge and financial understanding.
• Serve as a key partner to Endowment leadership, acting as a ‘critical friend’ by challenging assumptions and activities were necessary to ensure alignment of strategic and financial goals.
• Develop the business partner role into one that is fully able to proactively support strategic decision making, provide forward-looking insight and analysis, deliver effective financial performance information, and support the development of a culture of value-for-money within the Endowment.

Accounting, reporting, budgeting and planning

• Perform the accounting for the property and financial investing activities of the business unit, including property rental income and expenditure derived from third party managers’ reports.
• Prepare regular financial reports, including P&L statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements which are tailored to both the Endowment’s and the wider organisation’s needs and aligned with their structures. 
• Prepare regular short- and long-term cash flow forecasts, and support cash management within the endowment as well as across the wider group. 
• Develop and track key performance indicators. 
• Develop and produce effective dashboards and other reporting to provide insight and support decision making. 
• Lead from a finance perspective the budgeting and forecasting processes for the Endowment, and support their integration into the wider organisation’s processes.

Demand for our specialist tutoring programmes for Children Looked After, those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC) continues to increase and we are seeking an excellent addition to our team to support the increased demand for our provision and to support the continued scaling of our organisation.

We work with over 200 qualified teachers to provide academic, subject specialised and individual tutoring and mentoring for children of all ages. What is the Role?

The Partnerships Account Manager will drive business growth by securing new partnerships and managing key client accounts across designated regions.    • Manage and track client data and prospect pipelines using CRM systems, ensuring accuracy and up-to-date information.

   • Report to SLT on accounts, Tenders, Bids, client meetings on a regular basis

4. Team Management and Support Coordination

   • Lead, mentor, and manage two administrators focused on bid-writing, tender management, and client-related administration.

   • Support administrators in producing and reviewing high-quality bid documents and responses that align with client requirements and enhance our partnership outcomes.

   • Provide oversight to ensure that administrative tasks are completed efficiently, supporting smooth client interactions and consistent follow-through.

   • Work with other leads like allocations and recruitment to ensure we can fulfil referrals

   • Foster a strong working relationship between bid writers and recruitment to ensure we can find tutors and go for the right bids. 

5. Bid Management and Process Improvement

   • Oversee the preparation and submission of tenders and bids, working closely with administrators to ensure high-quality and timely submissions.

   • Continuously review and improve internal processes to optimise bid management, client onboarding, and service delivery.

   • Report on bid submission performance, review client feedback to continuously improve. 

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Detailed knowledge of the UK Education Sector.

• Proven track record in client relationship management, with experience in sales or partnership development roles.

• Strong communication skills, particularly in face-to-face and telephone interactions, with the ability to build rapport quickly and maintain long-lasting relationships.

• Experience managing a small team, providing leadership, direction, and support to ensure high-performance standards.

• High level of empathy and commitment to supporting vulnerable and underserved communities.

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet both short- and long-term deadlines effectively.

• Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) for tracking client data, leads, and progress.

• Proactive, problem-solving mindset, able to address issues independently and provide client-focused solutions.

• Able to work in a high pressure environment, whilst taking initiative, we would want the postholder to ask for support when needed.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience working in the education sector or with local authorities, particularly in roles involving SEND or children’s services.

Person Specification

• Accountant, qualified or QBE, with at least 5 years of experience in accounting, an understanding of accounting & finance principles and management accounting & reporting.
• Experience of project accounting, grant compliance & management is desirable; an understanding of the grant compliance & reporting requirements of the EU and German government grants is desirable.
• Strong IT skills, including advanced MSExcel skills. Competence in SQL an advantage.
• Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate financial matters to non-finance staff.
• Quick learner, organised and flexible, able to meet tight deadlines.
• Fluent in English, with excellent spoken and reporting writing skills. Working knowledge of French or Spanish is highly desirable. Knowledge of German is not essential or required.

• Willingness to travel abroad.

About the Job

The Systems & Management Accountant will play a crucial role in maintaining and developing the finance system to ensure it is up-to-date and fit-for-purpose. This includes identifying improvements in structure, reporting, and overall data analysis. The current systems in use is OpenAccounts v.8 and a legacy CRM system. This is a hybrid role also involving supporting the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team in producing the annual budget, long-term financial business plans, monthly management accounts, and quarterly forecasts. The position is based in London with hybrid working options, offering flexibility and a balanced work-life environment.The split is likely to start as 50:50 between systems and supporting the Finance Business Partners, but it is likely to lean more towards systems with time, as the postholder puts in place elements such as automation. The organisation are considering their systems options currently and may look to change or upgrade their system so that the CRM, Finance system and HR system are more in line. The postholder will be heavily involved in this project.

Person Required

The ideal candidate will be a fully or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with significant experience in a Systems Accountant role or involvement with a systems implementation or upgrade (ideally OpenAccounts). They should have a strong background in management accounting, system upgrades, and financial reporting. Proficiency in OpenAccounts is very desirable. The candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, advanced Excel proficiency, and the ability to tailor reports to various audiences. Experience with overseeing system version upgrades, chart of accounts coding changes, and converting spreadsheet-based reporting to system-based reporting is highly desirable.

For one of the most loved animal charities in the UK, we are recruiting a Systems Accountant to develop and optimise their financial systems and improve financial and non-finance reporting though Unit4. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role will ensure the Unit4 system is robust, and will enhance the value of financial data, providing insights to support the accounting function and overall systems and management tools used to inform the organisation. This will be a key role in connecting Finance and IT functions, and the delivery of any finance system changes and enhancements to Unit4.

Main Duties:

• Lead the development of UnitT 4 ERPx and ensure the integration of extensions (e.g., Salesforce)
• Act as systems administration workstream lead of Unit4 ERPx, including 3^rd party software
• Manage all incidents and process requests and ensure SLAs are maintained
• Act is the Unit4 Super-User
• Define learning and training needs for all end-users and drive best practice
• Maintain documentation of the financial system procedures, workflows and controls
• Act as the Business Analyst for finance operations across the charity, creating a systems improvement roadmap

Your new role

• Reporting to the Finance Manager
• Invoice and payment processing - managing the entire invoice payment process, including receipt authorisation, and weekly payment runs in the finance system (Iplicit). Handle grant transfers to partners, setting up payments in Bankline.
• Expense management - Oversee staff expense payments and manage credit card processes, including monthly reconciliations for NatWest cards. Administer prepaid card processes, including requests, top-ups and reconciliations.
• Reconciliation tasks - Reconcile supplier payments and direct debits to the ledger. Ensure all bank accounts are reconciled against the cash book. Post monthly bank interest, charges, and fees to the ledger.
• Journal preparation - Prepare and post routine and month-end journals, including depreciation, accruals and prepayments. Ensure automated journals are run and posted correctly.
• Financial reporting and compliance - Complete month-end reconciliations and maintain supporting documentation. Maintain fixed assets and contract registers. Assist in preparing annual accounts and documentation for auditors.
• Cash management - Manage petty cash and foreign currency floats. Update the charity's monthly cash holding position as part of treasury management.
