- Member Support Assistant
- Events and Office Assistant
Both roles are:
- £11.89 per hour plus benefits
- 7 hours per week, worked over 2 days
- One of the days to be a Thursday (for overlap with other staff)
- Hours to be worked between 09:00 and 17:00

About the charity: Cavernomas look like raspberries and are found in the brain and spinal cord. They're formed of abnormal blood vessels with thin leaky walls, which can bleed at any age without warning. 1 in 625 people are thought to have a cavernoma, and whilst most people won't experience symptoms 1 in 2,700 do. Symptoms can include haemorrhages, seizures and other neurological problems. Treatment involves 'wait and see', neurosurgery or stereotactic radiosurgery; with no medications currently available.
Cavernoma Alliance UK (CAUK) is a member-led organisation, run by and for those impacted by cavernoma with more information available on our website. We work from a model of empowerment, recognising the value of our members’ lived experience to provide mutual support, improve standards of care and drive research into finding a cure.
Since the charity was founded in 2005 it has grown from a volunteer-led organisation based in Dorchester to a UK wide registered charity that now has 2 part-time permanent staff, looking to increase to 4 Part-time staff (all home-based), 50+ volunteers, and 4,000+ members. Our support services include a helpline, buddying, counselling, online support groups, meet-ups, webinars, lectures, newsletter, leaflets, website and social media.
About the roles: The Member Support Assistant is responsible for assisting our Volunteer Manager with administration relating to the support of the charity’s 4,000 members and volunteers. This includes offering a professional service to members of CAUK, typically via phone, email, online, chat, or on occasion in person. The role involves supporting the membership and volunteering processes, ensuring all admin is accurate and up to date. Over time the post-holder will be expected to build a good working knowledge of members and volunteers. They will also be expected to develop strong communication skills, including active listening, alongside the ability to multitask, manage time and prioritise.
The Events and Office Assistant is responsible for assisting the Charity Manager with the administration of events alongside some general office activities for the charity. This includes assisting with the organisation of the virtual Annual Conference, virtual Monthly Information Webinars, in-person Annual Snowdon Climb for Cavernoma, online Cavernoma Awareness Month activities, in-person Autumn Lecture, virtual Secret Santa, attendance by volunteers at external conferences, and any other events organised by CAUK. As and when time permits in between events the post-holder will also assist with some general office activities, including posting t-shirts/fundraising packs to fundraisers and arranging Zoom meetings.

In order to achieve our vision we need a highly capable Director of Finance to build and improve on our high-performing finance function and to drive forward operational excellence.
Reporting directly into the CEO, you will be responsible for developing and implementing our financial strategy, long-term financial planning, and developing commercial strategies to maximise income and operating contribution. You will also have responsibility of cash management, risk management and governance. You will be the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) for the organisation and will lead on Property and Procurement.
This is a varied and exciting role which will provide you with the opportunity of leading a well-established team of professionals, reporting on the financial performance of the organisation together with providing analysis, advice and support to facilitate decision making to deliver sound financial management.
You will be a qualified accountant, and will need to demonstrate:
· Proven experience in a leadership role;
· Experience at Board level and ability to work in collaboration with Trustees and colleagues;
· Understanding and experience of strategic risk management, finance audit and internal controls
You will be a confident, energetic and engaging individual with an enquiring mind and passion for excellence and innovation in pursuit of sustainable growth and excellent service delivery. IRW is recruiting for the position of ‘Director of People & Culture' to join its dynamic People and Culture Division based in its offices in Birmingham, UK. The organisation is operating to hybrid working model.
The purpose of the role is to:
•Deliver a focused HR service to provide strategic direction and leadership to support the organisation-wide HR planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that the overall organisational objectives are achieved.
•Strengthen IRW’s relations with the wider community to consolidate and develop the visibility and image of the organisation.
•Facilitate professional and systematic communication and cooperation between the different parts of the IRW family to ensure maximum impact of the organisation’s work.
•Lead on the development, implementation and regular review of the divisional strategy, policies & procedures, processes, work plans and systems to achieve the agreed divisional objectives.
•Lead, manage and develop staff in order to ensure that the divisional is capable of fully achieving its agreed targets, and to provide HR specialist and strategic advice to partners as and when required.
The successful candidate must have or be:
•CIPD membership at Chartered or Fellow level or equivalent experience
•Sound understanding of UK employment law is essential
•Sound understanding and proven experience of HR processes, including but not limited to, change management, organisational development, ER case work, resourcing, compensation and benefits, policy development
•Proven experience of HR business partnering and substantial skills and experience of HR management at a senior level within in a large organisation
•A good understanding, commitment and sympathy with Islamic Relief’s Values, principles and mission
•Proven ability and experience in people and activity management as well as delegating roles and authority in a way in which enables teams to reach their targets/objectives
•Proven experience of developing and implementing strategies and work plans which help to deliver the wider organisational objectives
•Ability to guide staff development towards achieving key performance indicators
•Demonstrable experience in consultative team approaches to decision-making and innovation which motivates and drives teams forward
•Proven ability and experience in analysing data which enables sound conclusions and recommendations to be drawn to work in a way which always considers long-term goals whilst maintaining an overview of its immediate situation
•Track record of working in partnership with senior leadership teams, based on a coaching approach
• Up-to-date knowledge of current employment legislation, awareness of forthcoming employment legislation
•High level of competence in all aspects of managing employee relations
•Sound financial and time management which enables strategic goals to be achieved within budgetary constraints
•Ability and motivation to travel within UK and internationally if required

With 1 in 5 children struggling with their mental health, our surf therapy intervention is needed now more than ever. We transform the lives of children struggling with depression and anxiety. Through our 6 week course we help them to feel calm, confident, to have positive thoughts about themselves, to have higher self esteem and trust in others. We work with over 2000 children and young people across the UK every year and have reached over 14,000 over the past 14 years.
It is an exciting time to join the charity - we have a new CEO in post who has plans to take this charity to new heights - reaching even more children than ever before and we need an experienced fundraiser who can help us achieve that vision. Working as part of a small fundraising team you will have the ability to really make a substantial difference.
The role is advertised as 15 hours however there is the hope that this will end up being increased in the not too distant future. We will consider candidiates working remotely but for those based near HQ (Newquay, Cornwall) you will be able to join in with our pre work swims/paddles/coffee on the beach and our Bring and Share lunches! Please do not feel like you need to be a seasoned surfer for this role - the majority of the non delivery team are also not surfers!
