Read Easy provides free, confidential, one to-one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading, through a network of volunteer groups. Read Easy groups are changing the lives of individual adults across the country by providing them with the support they need to learn to read, and in turn opening doors for them to all sorts of new opportunities in life. Outline of the Coordinator role
The Coordinator is the first point of contact for those who want to learn to read. Using a simple assessment, the Coordinator will explain to a potential new ‘Reader’ how Read Easy may be able to help them. The Coordinator pairs up new Coaches with those who want to learn to read and provides ongoing support to these reading pairs. They visit reading sessions occasionally and maintain support through regular calls with both Reader and Coach to check all is going well, calling on the group’s Literacy Specialist to respond to any literacy related difficulties a pair may be having. Being a Read Easy Coordinator is very flexible. You decide how much time you have to offer, and this will determine the number of reading pairs you look after. The role provides lots of variety, is home-based and can work well around other commitments.
How we will support you
You will be provided with the Coordinator Handbook, training, induction, policies, resources and guidance specifically needed for this role, including access to support from a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser. In addition, the Coordinator Supporter will meet with you regularly to provide support and find out how your Reading Pairs are getting on. You will be invited to Read Easy UK’s volunteer forums and National Conference which gives volunteers an opportunity for networking with those from other groups.
What you will be doing:
● Help interview new Coaches when recruited and shortlisted by the Volunteer Recruiter.
● Enrol and assess new Readers, using the simple resources provided.
● Match Readers with Coaches, make introductions, and help them organise their reading sessions (which will take place in an approved venue or online).
● Visit your reading pairs to provide encouragement, presenting certificates on occasion.
● Work collaboratively with any other Coordinators in the group.
● Contribute to Coach meetings where volunteers discuss their experiences and receive further support. (Run by the Management Team typically every 8 weeks.)
● Attend Management Team meetings when invited, typically every 6-8 weeks either in person or remotely.
● Record progress of your reading pairs using resources provided, sharing these with the Management Team to keep them fully informed and submit expenses for payment egularly.
The skills you will need:
● A passion for supporting others achieve either their reading or coaching goals;
● A willingness to become familiar with the methods of the phonics based Turning Pages coaching manuals, so that you can confidently guide others;
● Good communication and people skills, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality. Strong organisational, time management and record keeping skills;
● Self-awareness, personal responsibility and a professional approach;
● Reasonable confidence in using IT(accessing documents, completing electronic forms and records, email, Teams/Zoom meetings);
● The ability to use initiative and willingness to work independently and as part of a team;
● A willingness to abide by Read Easy policies and procedures;
● An open attitude that encourages two-way communication and willingness to ask for support from the Management Team;
● A non-judgemental attitude and respect for others, with a commitment to equality and diversity, so that you can make everyone feel valued and included;
● Energy and enthusiasm with an average of 2-3 hours a week to commit to the role.

One25 Trustees
One25 began in 1995 in response to the unmet needs of women who were street sex-working in Bristol. Over the last 29 years we have learnt much about working with this marginalised group. One25 is still the only organisation specifically for street sex-working women in the city.
From May 2023 - April 2024, we provided vital services for 260 women. Of the women we supported:
- 36 exited street sex work
- 213 were healthier
- 127 were safer
- 104 were connected to the specialist services they needed
We work with some of Bristol’s most marginalised women, supporting them to move from crisis and trauma to independence in the community. Wherever they are in their journeys, we give love and practical support, without judgement or expectation.
Women’s needs have become more complex, so our work is more important than ever. The impact we make as a charity saves lives.
About the role
This is an important time to join the Board as we work to deliver our strategic goals and continue to focus on the positive steps One25 can take to increase and diversify income to sustain our vital work. Being a Trustee is an excellent way to develop your skills and can be a fascinating and rewarding experience.

Our new Trustees will be joining a talented Board, working alongside an inspiring CEO and senior management team, and our dedicated colleagues and volunteers. You will be able to connect with staff and gain insight into our work with the women.
You will attend four two-hour board meetings and four 1.5-hour committee meetings a year, plus two annual away days with our staff team and senior management team. There will be an additional time commitment to review meeting papers which are circulated in advance of board and committee meetings.
This is a voluntary role, and we are able to reimburse expenses.
We are seeking new Trustees for specific roles, but also welcome applications for other areas of skill and expertise:
- Finance expertise (who will succeed our current Treasurer after a period of induction)
- HR expertise (who will also benefit from an induction with our current HR lead)

Role Purpose
Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that One25 achieves its core purpose.
Trustees oversee the overall management and administration of the charity, exercising theirlegal responsibilities under both company law and charity law to act in the best interests of the charity, ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, manage resources responsibly, and provide clear governance to achieve the charity’s objectives.

Overview
Esteem works with young adults aged 14 - 26 to build lasting self-Esteem and stronger communities through group activities and 1-2-1 support.
Esteem creates spaces where everyone matters.
Esteem works with 200 young adults annually across all of Sussex who face barriers to achieving their life goals. We have a base in Shoreham and offer a variety of different opportunities, including social drop-in sessions, mentoring, wellbeing sessions, volunteering and counselling. We have a dedicated staff team with various backgrounds and a commitment to championing the views of young adults throughout the organisation.
This is an exciting opportunity to volunteer for a charity that is passionate about giving young adults the chance to develop their skills and confidence, both for their own benefit and for that of society as a whole. Esteem works with young adults to run Wellbeing, Social, Mentoring and Volunteering opportunities, with a youth-led and asset-based approach.
This voluntary role of Trustee & Secretary will include duties such as organising and minuting board meetings and some administrative duties to support the board. As well as the normal duties of a trustee (see The Essential Trustee Duties) The main aim is for the Trustee Secretary to support the Chair and the CO in ensuring the smooth functioning of the board of trustees. This would also compliment other areas we seek to enhance the trustee team, which include a wide range of skills, and expertise in youth work, strategy planning, business development, financial administration and fundraising, as well as an interest in vocational and personal development for young people, combined with an in-depth understanding of our work and ambitions.
You will be jointly and severally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, the probity of its activities and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. All trustees should also be aware of, and understand, their individual and collective responsibilities, and should not be overly reliant on one or more individual trustees in any particular aspect of the governance of the charity.
During Trustee meetings, your role would be to take minutes and record actions. Following each meeting, you would write up the minutes, share with the Board, as well as support the Chair and CO to plan for the next meeting.
Individuals are sought who have a strong empathy with Esteem’s goal of enabling young adults to flourish. The Esteem Secretary will be expected to contribute around 6 hours per month to the organisation, including board meetings, which run for two hours every two months, from 6-8pm at The Old School House, Shoreham. A minimum commitment of two years would be preferable. This post requires some flexibility due to the nature of Esteem being a growing organisation.
Your regular tasks and responsibilities will include:

We are a well-established charity - we work hard as team to help the community of Test Valley and are supported by a small team of trustees.
Trustees are volunteers who are expected to use their skills, knowledge and experience to help guide and govern. They work with the Chief Officer and other staff to shape strategy and give direction.
This includes making sure that their local Citizens Advice is:

About the Sex Education Forum
The Sex Education Forum is the voice of Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) in England. First established in 1987, we have helped support generations of educators and campaigned successfully for the introduction of compulsory Relationships and Sex Education in all schools.
In 2021 we established ourselves as an independent charity. We have a team of six staff, who work remotely, and are passionate about RSE. We have more than 70 Partner organisations and hundreds of members, who we bring together regularly, mostly through online events. We have formed a partnership with the youth-led organisation Make it Mandatory so that we can support each other to meet our shared goal to extend inclusive RSE to post-16 and make a difference to the lives of young people.
What we do
Now that RSE is compulsory, we are focused on ensuring that children and young people get the good quality RSE lessons they have been promised, and that educators have the skills and knowledge necessary to provide inclusive RSE. One of the services that we offer is high-quality RSE training for teachers, foster carers and other youth professionals.
The experiences and voices of young people are central to our work. Some young people, especially those who are marginalised, are still missing out on RSE so we’re paying particular attention to addressing those gaps. We work closely with young people to design and launch our annual Young People’s RSE Poll. This gives us more data about the experiences of young people and what needs to change.
About the board of trustees
Our board is made up of between 8 and 12 volunteers who are all passionate about the work of the charity and committed to ensuring all children and young people can access high quality, evidence-based and inclusive Relationships and Sex Education. Our trustees each bring different skills and types of experience, and are valued for their contribution.
Being a trustee can be very rewarding, because you see the impact that your advice has on the working of our charity. You get to develop yourself and gain skills, and have the chance to help shape what we do and how we do it. Crucially, trustees help us stick to our values and principles and in doing so, make sure that we fulfil our commitment to making RSE accessible to all young people.
Who are we looking for
We are looking for up to four new Trustees to join our current Board. We are keen to recruit people with fundraising, financial management, lived experience or youth participation expertise. We would like to encourage more young trustees (aged 18 years old and above) to join our board. Read the role description below and don’t feel you have to tick all the boxes. Sex Education Forum Trustee role description
- Help develop the Sex Education Forum’s overall strategy to meet our charitable objectives, and evaluate our performance in meeting these objectives.
- Keep informed about the activities of the Sex Education Forum and wider issues of RSE policy and practice which affect our work.
- Bring to the fore the needs and perspectives of the diverse children, young people and educators that the Sex Education Forum seeks to support, and ensure that our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion vision and action plan is implemented and reviewed.
- Be part of the trustee team, who must ensure the financial stability of the Sex Education Forum and that our funds and resources are only used for pursuing our charitable objectives.
- Contribute to good governance of the Sex Education Forum, for example by taking part in regular discussions and monitoring of organisational risks.
- Attend meetings and be part of at least one sub-committee, reading papers in preparation for meetings and carrying out the actions you agree to (travel expenses will be paid when meetings are held in person)
- Use your skills, knowledge and experience to help the Board of Trustees reach good decisions.

Youth participation role
This role is our internal expert on participation and youth inclusion, providing staff and trustees with guidance and support on how to meaningfully and effectively involve young people in the design and delivery of SEF’s work. We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience designing and delivering participation programmes enabling young people to have a stronger voice within an organisation
- Has experience supporting staff or other adults build their skills and knowledge of working with young people
- Has strong anti-oppressive practice and experience supporting the participation of marginalised, minoritised and racialised young people, including by challenging the systems and structures that impact them the hardest
- Has an understanding of safeguarding
Lived experience role
You might have recently received RSE at school or college and feel that you can support the board in championing the needs of our beneficiaries (children and young people) in everything we do. We are looking for someone who:
- Knows what a positive difference it makes to have inclusive, high quality RSE
- Has experience speaking up for inclusive, high quality RSE for themselves or others
- Understands relationships and sex education issues through their own life experience
- Wants to ensure that marginalised, minoritised and racialised people are fully included in RSE and the running of the Sex Education Forum
Finance role
This role will provide the financial management skills to support Sex Education Forum’s financial health and sustainability and who can bring financial insight to our team. This role offers the opportunity to grow into a more formal Treasurer position. We are looking for someone who will:
- Bring their financial/accounting knowledge to work with the Chief Executive in overseeing the financial operations of the charity.
- Collaborate with the Chair and Deputy Chair of the board to ensure the charity meets its financial governance responsibilities.
- Ensure that appropriate accounting and financial management systems are in place.
- Lead on supporting the Chief Executive with banking related matters, including being an authorised signatory.
- Collaborate with the Chief Executive to ensure that adequate and regular financial reports are presented to the board.
Fundraising role
This role will bring fundraising experience to help us secure funds that will drive our sustainability and increase our impact. Sex Education Forum is at a pivotal moment for growth so we are looking for someone who can:
- Strategically evaluate where fundraising aligns with the Sex Education Forum’s mission and objectives, ensuring that it supports our broader business plan
- Identify and actively pursue funding opportunities for the Sex Education Forum within statutory, charitable trusts and corporate settings.
- Advise on the development of funding proposals, providing support to the CEO
- Provide oversight of Sex Education Forum’s fundraising activities to ensure they are carried out in an ethical, transparent, and legally compliant manner
- Provide written and verbal communication skills to assist in the creation of funding proposals, grant-writing experience not mandatory but would be an asset
Time commitment
Approximately 1-2 hours per week (for example this could be meetings, responding to emails) and attendance at six board meetings per year. At least two of these meetings are held in London, the others are online. Meetings last two hours (online) and around three hours when we meet in person.
Is this role for me?
Previous experience as a Trustee is not required. You can apply if you are 18 years old or above. We are particularly keen to hear from applicants that represent the diversity of young people and educators that Sex Education Forum seeks to support. Full induction will be provided. Travel expenses to attend trustee meetings in London are provided.

We are looking to appoint trustees to join our Board at a very exciting time of growth and change. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the next phase of the charity’s development.

Purpose of the role
Together with fellow Board members, as a Trustee you will act in the Charity's best interests, set the strategy and policies, make key decisions and oversee the management of the Charity.
Key duties
- To ensure that Lifelites complies with its Constitution, Charity Law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- To ensure that Lifelites pursues its charitable objects as defined in the Constitution.
- To scrutinise Board papers and contribute to debate and decision making.
- To ensure Lifelites uses its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects: the organisation must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are.
- To contribute actively to the Board of Trustees in giving firm strategic direction to Lifelites, setting overall strategy and policies, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
- To safeguard the reputation and values of Lifelites.
- To ensure that Lifelites considers and mitigates key risks.
- To ensure the effective and efficient administration of Lifelites.
- To ensure the financial stability of Lifelites.
- To protect and manage Lifelites’ assets and to ensure the proper investment of its funds.

What is a Branch Chair?
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas. Many are further divided into local areas called divisions. Each branch has a Chair to oversee all aspects of the branch. Ultimately accountable to the Chair of the Board of Trustees, through the National Chairman your role is to ensure that the branch is running in line with SSAFA’s Royal Charter Rules, Regulations, and policies. Also, to ensure that clients and volunteers are safe, all services provided are appropriate and effective and that the branch is financially sound. You will be the public face of SSAFA in your branch area.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan. More people than ever are contacting SSAFA for financial, practical and emotional support. To do this we need local branches and volunteers who can coordinate people, ensure the local population know about SSAFA and keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.
Our branches support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
This role is about leadership, coordination, and administration. As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but many volunteers are based at home. The role requires an ongoing time commitment, usually about 2-3 days per month. In addition, you would need to organise and attend regular meetings throughout the year.
What would you be doing?
- Providing leadership to the Branch and ensuring that all activities comply with SSAFA regulations both directly, and through the Branch Secretary, other Branch Officers, and Divisional Officers.
- Providing support and guidance to volunteers in office holder roles, and support with recruitment of volunteers into these positions to ensure the sustainability of the branch.
- Ensuring the financial integrity of the Branch, including the appointment of Treasurers and a local fundraising programme to meet branch running costs.
- Ensuring that all data is processed and held in accordance with SSAFA’s data management policies.
- Monitoring volunteer numbers against the demand for support and working with other volunteers, regional and central office staff to attract and recruit new volunteers as required.
- Ensuring that all volunteers are recruited, inducted, supported, and managed in line with SSAFA policies, such as the Volunteering Policy, Volunteer Code of Conduct, Data Protection Policy, and Safeguarding Policy.
- Building relationships with regional and central office staff, local voluntary organisations and, if applicable, SSAFA Service committees, local military establishments, prisons etc.
- Overseeing an appropriate programme of awareness raising so that potential clients, volunteers, and supporters know how to contact the branch.
- Providing timely reports and information to SSAFA’s Central Office
- Overseeing a programme of meetings including an AGM, branch meetings, committee meetings, training etc.
- Supporting any salaried branch staff and ensuring that their line management arrangements are working appropriately.
- Resolve any complaints that are suitable for local resolution in accordance with SSAFA’s Complaints Policy and procedures, referring upwards any that are not suitable for local resolution.
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

Bhubesi Pride Foundation, BPF, is a youth sport and supplementary education charity supporting communities in Africa, now focused on Malawi. Through non-contact rugby, netball and other sports, we help to empower young people, providing opportunities for education, leadership and community development.
Over the last 5+ years, and in the face of multi-faceted challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, BPF has made significant progress helping to develop several core programs in rural Lilongwe, involving boys and girls in youth sports and integrated life skills activities. To enable this, we’ve worked closely with BPF Malawi – the partner NGO we registered (in Lilongwe in 2017) – to assist with organisational strengthening, policy implementation, improved operational delivery, governance, strategy, data collection and impact assessments. Since early 2022, the NGO’s staffed team has increased from two to 11 (all Malawian), 50+ Malawian youth sports coaches have been trained and over 3,000 young people actively participate in locally-led programming. Alongside in-country stakeholders, we’ve facilitated the construction of a unique sports and education facility on a 7-acre site in rural Lilongwe, on land purchased by the NGO, which is being increasingly utilised by BPF Malawi. Alongside the NGO, we’ve expanded our reach, deepened our impact and we continue to champion sport as a vehicle for positive change.
Our experiences have taught us a lot of valuable lessons about the work we do and, crucially, about our duty to Malawian communities. Future goals include increasing our sustainability, improving governance practices and building long-term partnerships which allow BPF to make even more of an impact on the communities we serve. Strengthening the charity’s relationship with BPF Malawi is also a key focus for us over the next 5 years, enabling us all to fully understand, and respond to, Malawi’s core challenges, and paving a more sustainable road ahead.
Role overview
The Chair will lead BPF’s Board of Trustees, working closely with the Chief Executive to ensure the charity continues to deliver on its mission. This is a pivotal role at a strategically important time, for all connected to our work. You will therefore help BPF shape and refine its next strategy and ensure the Board contributes effectively by supporting the charity’s goals.
Key responsibilities
- Leadership: Provide leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that the charity delivers on its mission and strategic objectives.
- Governance: Ensure strong governance practices are in place, including compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Lead on setting high standards for the Board’s performance and engagement, and appoint new Trustees to bring additional value.
- Strategic planning: Work with the Chief Executive and Board to support the development and implementation of the charity’s next strategy (closely collaborating with, and supporting, BPF Malawi).
- Fundraising and partnerships: Play a key role in helping the charity build long-term partnerships and secure new funding for the charity’s future sustainability.
- Trustee development: Inspire, support and hold BPF’s Trustees accountable for their contributions, ensuring that the Board as a whole functions effectively.
- Advocacy: Act as an ambassador for BPF, raising awareness of our work and helping to grow our profile in the international development and business sectors.
Person specification
Essential:
- Collaborative and inclusive approach: A commitment to working collaboratively with the Board, CEO, staff/volunteers, key stakeholders (e.g. charity partners and BPF Malawi) to achieve shared goals; and an inclusive intent to see that marginalised and vulnerable youth, especially girls and young people with disabilities, are given fair and equal opportunities and rights.
- International development knowledge: Experience in international development, ideally in Africa, with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the sector.
- Accountability and high standards: A high level of personal integrity and a focus on holding others to the highest standards of governance, effectiveness and impact – embodying and promoting BPF’s core values.
- Governance expertise: Proven track record of good governance, including understanding the legal and financial responsibilities of a charity board, bringing an open approach to how governance practices can be strengthened.
Desirable:
- Third sector experience: Knowledge and/or experience of the charity sector, within sport for development, youth empowerment, education or international development.

The Treasurer will support the Board to oversee the financial matters of the charity in line with good practice, the
Constitution and legal requirements, and report to the Board at regular intervals about the financial position of the charity.
The Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place and are appropriate
for the charity. (Despite this all trustees are jointly and severally responsible for the administration of the charity).
Main responsibilities:
- To support the Board to oversee and to ensure appropriate presentation of budgets, accounts, management accounts and financial statements.
- To ensure appropriate presentation of accounts and records, ensuring that financial resources are spent in accordance with the charity’s policies, good governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
Main duties:
- Liaising, where applicable with the CEO (or other appropriate member of staff).
- Supporting the Board to monitor the financial viability of the charity.
- Creating in conjunction with relevant senior staff sound financial instruments for the control of charity assets.
- Ensuring that staff create sound financial instruments for the control of charity assets.
- Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s Strategic Plan.
- Ensuring that the annual accounts are compliant with the current charities’ SORP.
- Ensuring close working relationships with the internal audit team and Committees of the Board.
- Ensuring that sound financial management is maintained and ensuring expenditure is in line with the charity’s objects.
- Acting as a counter signatory on charity cheques and any applications and receipts of funding (if necessary or mandated).
