The Upper Norwood Library Hub (UNLH) provides lifelong learning and opportunity for local communities and designs inclusive spaces for learning, wellbeing and the arts that support local communities and protect and sustain libraries. UNLH sits on the cusp of 5 London Boroughs (Croydon, Lambeth, Bromley, Southwark and Lewisham). Our professional library service is delivered by Lambeth Council, co-funded by Croydon Council; working in close partnership with the library and Council teams. Our library hub operates a co-created community programme focusing on sharing and learning, health and wellbeing, venue and performance and outreach activities. UNLH is managed by the Upper Norwood Library Trust (UNLT - an independent charity), formed in 2012 by local residents and a strategic priority is that we are ‘of’ our community not ‘for’ our community to ensure resident voice is central within the organisation. 

This is an exciting time to join the UNLT team as we expand our community programmes and strengthen our impact. UNLT is seeking a Community Programme Manager to manage our education, wellbeing and arts activities for children and adults. Our programmes run on site, in the community and across London. The role sits at the very centre of our work. Working closely with the Hub Director, you will make UNLT’s activity programme a reality. The role also offers the opportunity for some hands-on delivery.

About MediCinema

MediCinema is a unique national, UK registered charity that improves the wellbeing and enriches the quality of life of NHS patients, their families and carers through the power of the shared cinema experience and the magic of film. We achieve this by building and running cinemas in hospitals and places of care equipped with space for beds, wheelchairs and medical equipment, and providing free films and activities for patients of all ages. Our services help to improve emotional, mental and physical health, reducing isolation, anxiety and stress, and increasing patient resilience to help them cope with what they’re going through.

Our purpose-built in-hospital cinemas are designed to accommodate patients in hospital beds and wheelchairs, on drips or with monitors. MediCinema provides a warm, welcoming and safe place that enables patients to escape the ward and have much needed breathing space - to have quality time together with loved ones, connect with the wider world, and forget their pain. From all our impact evaluation and with over 24 years’ experience, we know this equips people with the tools to navigate the stress and difficulties that come with illness, to create positive memories, positive healthcare experiences, and to help build resilience.

The Role

We are looking for a Deputy Cinema Manager to join the existing team at the Chelsea&Westminster Hospital in London, working closely with CW+, the official charity of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The roleholder will also be required to provide cover to our other London-based MediCinemas at Guys and St Thomas’s Hospitals.

The post-holder will work with the Cinema Manager and the team of nurses and volunteers who support our MediCinema, and will work closely with them, the hospital, and with central office operations team to prepare for and run successful film screenings each week.

We run 4 regular inpatient screenings each week which includes evenings and weekends. The roleholder will be required to work on a shift pattern to include weekends and evenings each week. There will also be a programme of additional Tailored and Personal screenings on top of these regular inpatient screenings. 

The role offers a unique, exciting and extremely rewarding opportunity for someone interested in a service delivery role at the heart of our charity, involving direct contact with the patients and families we support.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Service Delivery

• Support the Cinema Manager in delivering a programme of screenings each week as agreed according to the operating procedures of a MediCinema, including running and managing screenings on your own. Most screenings are held in the evenings and at weekends so the role requires regular evening and Saturday working.

• On screening days be responsible for:

o Marketing the service through the hospital’s wards, organising collecting and returning patients, and for safety and care in the cinema itself.

o Taking responsibility for health and safety of patients coming to the cinema, and the safety and appearance of the cinema space itself.

o Preparing and operating the digital projection equipment for the screening, ensuring that films are screened to the highest technical standards at all times. Training and ongoing technical support will be provided for this.

o Ensuring that all operational, welfare and safeguarding policies set out by MediCinema are followed accordingly and that, where appropriate, consent forms are obtained for photographic or filmed records.

o Ensuring that all aspects of the operation comply with relevant health and safety legislation, and that areas where MediCinema might be in breach of such are dealt with immediately or brought to the attention of the appropriate authorities for rectification.

o Keeping accurate monitoring and operational records, including contacts and database updating as required

• Help the Cinema Manager collate, analyse and report back on agreed metrics and KPI’s

• Assist with arranging and running any special events and special screenings

• When required, arrange and run additional personal screenings for patients unable to attend regular screenings, plus special tailored screenings with particular hospital departments and patient groups.

• Support the development and roll out of any new type of screenings we embark on.

• Support the delivery of our complementary bedside services, such as our Disney ‘Moments that Matter’ work.

Nurse & Volunteer Management

• Help the Cinema Manager build, manage and support the team of nurses and volunteers to assist in the duties outlined above and to ensure that screenings run safely and smoothly – this will include assisting with recruitment and creating monthly rotas.

Marketing and Relationship Management

• Be proactive in marketing the service within the hospital, building key relationships with hospital staff and members of CW+.

• Help develop and manage effective partnerships throughout the hospital and community

• Representing the organisation effectively and compellingly at all times.

• Support the programming and development of the MediCinema as a centre for entertainment, being pro-active in developing a creative programme of sustainable events at each site. This could include fundraising events, live performance and other relevant activities.

Administration and other duties 

• Deputise for the Cinema Manager as and when required.

• Provide holiday or emergency screening cover when required.

• Help manage the collection, loading and returning of films.

• Champion the work of MediCinema within the hospital and cinema environment, as well as confidently and positively representing MediCinema in all interactions and at any meetings and events.

• Contribute to the strategic development of the Chelsea&Westminster MediCinema, operations and MediCinema as a wider organisation

• Communicate effectively with all team members, ensuring an inclusive and whole organisation approach

• Undertake other tasks, projects and duties as reasonably required.

MediCinema is a small team and staff members are expected to support each other and share cross-organisational work in addition to fulfilling individual responsibilities.

The Alumni Programmes Manager will sit within the Programmes team and will report to the Head of Alumni Engagement. The Sutton Trust’s alumni programme aims to develop a vibrant community of alumni who are offered ongoing support, and who in turn can give back to the Trust in a variety of ways.

Our careers offering of activity to alumni post-18 – predominantly reaching those who are studying at undergraduate level – was launched in 2021 to aid employability and career support for this group. In addition to the new programmatic offering, 2021 saw the launch of two new bursary schemes targeted at this group, funded by corporate partners. The Alumni Programmes Manager plays a central role working with corporates and delivering and piloting new programmes for alumni – including ringfenced placements or insight opportunities. The role will be responsible for the management of the application process, as well as coordinating promotion, delivery of programme activity, and programme evaluation. They will line manage the Alumni Assistant and oversee their workload to ensure support across both the careers and bursary programmes, as well as support across the full range of alumni work. They will also oversee the Alumni Assistant to deliver practical aspects of the post-18 work such as organising webinars, managing enquiries and communicating with bursary recipients to track their progress.

The Alumni Programmes Manager will work also closely with the Programmes and Development teams to support on funding relationships for donors to the Trust’s employability and alumni work and continue to develop and deliver impactful employability and bursary programmes for our community of young alumni 0-5 years out, across a range of sectors.

Main duties
Duties will fall broadly into the following categories, but may change as the role develops and the alumni/post-18 offering grows:

• Lead on planning and delivery of all career and employability-based communications to alumni 0-5 years out of their programme
• Lead on the planning and delivery of the application and allocation process for the two alumni employability bursaries, supported by the Alumni Assistant and keeping the Head of Alumni Engagement and other senior stakeholders at the Trust and the funders informed and involved where appropriate
• Work with the Finance and Operations team to oversee funding allocation for bursary recipients and ensure payment guidelines are followed, and regularly reviewed.
• Lead on the management of the key termly check-in process with bursary recipients including supporting the Alumni Assistant and other team members required to deliver a proportion of the calls.
• Manage day-to-day delivery of employability bursaries evaluation framework, working with colleagues in the wider Trust on data and insights
• Manage the curation and implementation of digital employability resources for STA
• Manage communications to drive engagement with students in the alumni employability programmes and resources on STA
• Curate a programme of in-person employability events e.g. networking events or workshops, across a range of sectors and in response to student demand, to meet the employability needs of Sutton Trust alumni
• Working with the employability team to support the design and delivery of events and activities on the existing alumni employability programmes – e.g. Careers Plus
• Line manage the Alumni Assistant who supports on post-18 activity as well as the wider Alumni team
• Working with colleagues to manage the Trust’s day-to-day relationship with corporate and programme delivery partners for opportunities to support post-18 employability programmes, representing this area of work across the Trust and sometimes externally
• Working with the Head of Alumni Engagement to maintain key stakeholder relationships including with the alumni bursary corporate funders, alumni volunteers, university coordinators or other partners
• Ensure data for engagement with employability and bursary activity is recorded on Salesforce
• Suggest new ideas and insights for growth of the post-18 offering, that feed into the broader strategy and long-term vision for alumni.

General:

• As required, provide support to the Alumni and Programmes team more widely, for example in supporting delivery, events and other activities.

Person Specification

Terms of Appointment

RESPONSIBILITIES

People (HR)

• Manage and maintain HR policies, procedures and practices including the employee handbook, ensuring they are up to date, recorded, filed and adhered to (i.e. personnel contracts, DBS, volunteers, holidays, sick leave)
• Develop and implement new systems, policies and processes that support anti-oppression, care and inclusion. 
• Ensure that Wen is compliant, abiding by relevant legislation (including GDPR) and arrange training for staff as needed
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, staff development and all other people processes
• Ensure appropriate support and supervision is in place for all staff, including overseeing training for all staff
• Promote improvements in internal communication, ensuring staff, volunteers and interns are informed of organisational developments and have opportunities to give feedback that will help shape our ways of working for the better.
• Oversee the co-ordination of all-staff events, meetings, socials and team building.
• Monitor and evaluate staff wellbeing, taking steps to address as needed.

Places (Office management and IT)

• Ensure smooth running of Wen’s main office to ensure it provides a welcoming, efficient and safe space to work in, ensuring health and safety procedures are implemented and maintained with help from the Operations Assistant.
• Utilise the Core Operations budget with help from the Operations Assistant to ensure Wen is maintaining photocopier, stationary supplies, liaising with our landlord about rent, maintaining phones, health and safety, fire procedures, utilities, rates and insurance.
• Oversee the IT Coordinator to ensure licenses are up to date, IT issues are solved promptly and IT developments and changes across our two sites and hybrid team are tracked

Finance

• Work with Finance Manager and Head of Organisational Development to establish strong financial processes and policies and ensure staff are aware of the relevant ones
• Liaising with our Finance Manager on day-to-day accounting as and when necessary 
• Managing the Core Operations budget including approval of expenditure (as a signatory) and cashflow preparation for the coming financial year
• Checking and collation of monthly payroll information

People Support

• Managing the Operations Assistant and IT Co-ordinator.

You’ll lead on volunteering best practice across the organisation, ensuring our volunteer infrastructure is robust and dynamic, enabling our volunteer projects and teams to support the MS community, whilst providing our volunteers with a rewarding experience.

We’re going through a period of transformation here at the MS Society and require a strategic and adaptable individual who is experienced in supporting volunteers and volunteer managers through change.

There are key areas of work to focus on, including developing volunteer journeys to align with transformation and ensuring our volunteers are supported throughout their time with us. You’ll also be supporting the development of new volunteering policies, practices and strategy, as well as developing new volunteer roles throughout the organisation.

The Senior Volunteering Officer will help us to explore and develop new approaches to volunteering within the NHS. This role is focused on supporting our volunteers that are based within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust services across the North West London Community and to develop new volunteering roles that focus on health challenges within the community.

You’ll provide a high quality experience to volunteers that are located within our community sites, by working with Trust staff and partner organisations to develop new roles that improve the experience to our patients within these clinical services, to identify new locations and roles, to develop our volunteering offer within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

This role will work with the Trust to develop new approaches to volunteering, with a particular focus on designing, launching and evaluating volunteer roles that could bring system change to wider health inequalities.

Additionally, you’ll focus on our volunteer community, ensuring that our volunteer community is as representative of the wider population, and seek to engage groups with a particular focus on the Core20plus5 groups.

Main Tasks:

Provide leadership and support to enable a high quality volunteering experience within Trust Services within the North West London Community

Work in partnership with wider charity teams, to identify areas to link up work around the population health programme of work and identify appropriate volunteering opportunities

RJ4All is looking for an innovative UK Operations Director who will drive impactful social justice projects and community initiatives while fostering strategic growth and income generation. You will oversee our dynamic UK-based operations out of the Rotherhithe Community Centre, work closely with the Director, and lead our Centre-based team. 

Restorative Justice for All (RJ4All) is a charitable, user-led international institute with expertise in preventing and addressing harm at the individual, community and inter-state levels. We are one of the world’s leading experts in transferring complex criminological and social justice concepts into practice through real-life pilots and community projects. 

The UK Operations Director will lead on the delivery, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of RJ4All’s UK-based services, and especially those run from the RJ4All Rotherhithe Community Centre. It is expected that they will generate income for the UK operations and contribute to new ideas for UK-based projects that fall within RJ4All’s agreed strategy. Finally, the post holder will act in place of the Director when they are unavailable or for any other agreed reason.

This post requires leadership and strong ethical commitment to RJ4All’s core values and vision, independence balanced against organisational priorities and focus. To this end, the postholder is expected to have excellent communication with the Director, and be able to participate in complex, high level discussions with the non-executive directors and other stakeholders about the future of RJ4All. Key Tasks 

• Lead on the management of RJ4All’s UK Operations especially those run from the Rotherhithe Community Centre, ensuring its facilities meet government regulations and environmental, health and security standards. 

• To line manage the Community Project Coordinators and Officers, the Fitness team, administrators, finance support staff, interns and volunteers. 

• To lead on drafting applications for funding from government, trusts and foundations, donors and sponsors for UK programmes and services. 

• To lead on managing and delivering of all services running out of the Community Centre including the RJ4All Sports branch, Community Gym, YouthClubs+, Foodbank, and Community Library 

• To lead on creating and monitoring the UK Operations’ Theory of Change on annual basis, and review it against available data and individual projects’ Theory of Change. 

Qualifications 

Essential 

• Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences or related

• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in a relevant field such as equalities or crime prevention 

• Experience in non-profit, CIC, or small business environment

• Experience in managing paid and volunteering personnel

• Demonstrated experience in fundraising 

• Experience in writing and monitoring budgets 

• Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to contribute to decision-making and planning 

• Willingness to learn and develop as a leader, inspire others and self, motivate and set own priorities 

Desirable 

• Master's Degree in Social Sciences or related 

• Certified trainings in restorative justice and other relevant areas 

• Knowledge of the HMRC and UK tax regulations and best practices
