Open Road is looking to add to our Board of Trustees
We have two vacancies on our Board and welcome applications from candidates with experience in the building and maintenance sector and human resources personnel sector. New board members would join our current board of nine trustees, who bring a wide variety of expertise and knowledge to support the charity; business management, legal, IT, clinical, marketing as well as decades of experience working in many different sectors.

We are a UK healthcare charity, now in our 34th year. We provide a myriad of services in Essex and Medway; drug and alcohol support, homelessness services, domestic abuse support, criminal justice services, employment support, welfare and community initiatives to promote community safety and combat anti-social behaviour. We help vulnerable people, young and old, throughout Essex and Medway, and work in the heart of local communities. We are not a large national faceless charity; we are very much a grassroots organisation. How Do Open Road’s Trustees Support The Charity?
The role of the Trustee is to assist in advancing the purpose of the organisation; developing its aims and goals, keeping within its charitable objectives and acting in its best interests. The board members ensure that the charity is run in accordance with its governing document, charity law, and any other laws and regulations which affect its activities.
Our Trustee Board are responsible for developing strategy, providing governance, and directing the charity towards achieving its mission. We are looking to appoint two new trustees – the first being from the building and maintenance sector – with the experience and knowledge to support the health and safety responsibilities of a growing charity, and the second being a HR professional who will chair our Personnel Sub Committee with special responsibility for oversight of the organisation’s HR function and strategy, ideally you will be a Chartered Member or Fellow of the CIPD with substantial experience at a Senior/Director HR professional level with a thorough understanding of operational HR policy and practice.
An understanding of the role of charity boards and their responsibilities and operation, gained through previous experience would be helpful, and above all else you will be intrinsically values-driven and committed to enabling more individuals we support to live their lives to the full.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT – Charity Trustee
REMUNERATION:
- This role is unremunerated and offered on a voluntary basis.
- Trustees are encouraged to visit services that are local to them.
- Travel and accommodation expenses are reimbursed for meetings & visits.
TIME COMMITMENT:
- The time commitment is at least one day a month.
- There are six board meetings a year and this includes an annual strategy setting day.
- Board meetings are held in person in Central London.
- All trustees are expected to participate on at least one committee and there are four committee meetings a year.
- Committee meetings are held in person/virtually.
Key responsibilities:
- To take part in formulating and regularly reviewing the strategic aims of the

Introduction
Do you care about the future of the countryside in North and East Yorkshire? Do you have skills and experience in supporter development/fundraising that you could bring to our work? CPRE North and East Yorkshire are looking for a Trustee and Supporter Development Lead to contribute to our important work protecting our beautiful local countryside and green spaces.
Who we are
CPRE campaigns nationally and locally for positive solutions which safeguard the long-term future of our precious countryside. At national level, the charity produces in-depth research and sound arguments to press government, Parliament and other decision-makers to support our countryside, be it national landscapes or simply much loved local green spaces, through policies which ensure:

The role
Our small but energetic team of volunteer Trustees enable people to protect the countryside they love and enjoy the benefits it brings wherever they live. But with your support we can do even more!
In joining us as a Trustee on the Board you’ll have a general role in developing the charity in line with our strategy and, together with other Trustees, ensuring compliance with Charity Commission and other legal and governance regulations. However additionally as our Lead for Supporter Development you will use your specialist knowledge to inform and guide the Trustee Board in this area and coordinate and drive forward related activities to meet agreed aims. As part of this remit, you will also oversee the recruitment of a Communications and Supporter Care Officer (a brand new role) and have ongoing responsibility for communicating organisational requirements and providing feedback to the individual once engaged.

The role of an MRN trustee
As with any small charitable organisation, we are reliant on the skills and dedication of the trustees to support the organisation. We pride ourselves on a diverse board which primarily consists of those with the lived migrant, including refugee experiences.

A well established charity operating in Brighton & Hove and across Sussex, we are a user led organisation, whose membership, staff, volunteers, and trustees, are drawn from people with a personal or professional experience of disability.
Our charity has been through a period of change, with a new Chief Executive Officer appointed in August 2024, following a year with an Interim CEO in place. We are ambitious about what we can achieve, and passionate about being the voice of disabled people within our communities. We are navigating a period of cultural change and discovering new opportunities to develop our work and reach broader communities.
The charity has faced a changing and challenging funding landscape, with local councils and grant making bodies both reducing the monies available, against a background of rising costs. We have diversified our income streams, but seek further help and direction with this and in particular are seeking fundraising skills and innovative income generation and marketing ideas.
We envisage the next 5 years as being a period of growth and change with real opportunities to shape the future direction of the charity. Role Purpose:
Responsible for the overall financial health and compliance of the organisation. Producing financial reports, developing strategies to support the charity objectives. Guiding and advising Trustees in making sound business decisions in the long and short-term.
Role Duties:
• Monitor the financial operations with event director, such as payroll ifapplicable, invoicing, and other transactions.
• Monitoring and managing cashflow, forecasting, income and expenditure.
• Oversee outside services for tax preparation, auditing, banking, investments, andother financial needs as necessary
• Track the company’s financial status and performance to identify areas forpotential improvement
• Seek out methods for minimising financial risk to the company
• Produce financial reports for Trustees
• Provide insightful information and expectations to Trustees to aid in long-term andshort-term decision making
• Review financial data and prepare monthly and annual reports as appropriate
• Present financial reports to Trustees and stakeholders as relevant and appropriate.
• Stay up to date with technological advances and accounting software to be usedfor financial purposes

Desired Skills & Qualifications:
Experience in organisational accounting and finance. Over 5 years’ experience in a similar professional or voluntary finance role; general management and/or leadership skills and experience; understanding of data privacy standards; good communication skills, both written and verbal; good understanding of business principles and practices;good attention to detail; organisational skills; good computer skills; integrity, honesty.
Communication & Location: Most communications will take place via zoom and occasionally in person in the north east of England. Desired location would be north east of England to meet with team easily if needed but not essential.

Time Commitment
Completion of the Chair Induction programme and any ongoing Trustee training
- Attendance at up to four Board meetings per year, plus one Board development half-day.
- Additional engagement activities: two BDC Mind Engagement days per year, client engagement activities, opportunity to shadow one of our services once every year.
- The Chair should be available for regular meetings with the CEO and ad hoc conversations as and when needed.
- Pre-reading of all Board/Committee papers is essential.
- Attendance at adhoc virtual working groups, external events or meetings we need the Chair to attend.

Spike Island is a dynamic arts centre and registered charity that supports, produces and presents contemporary art across an 80,000 square foot former industrial building near Bristol’s harbourside.
