Job description

Urban Youth is an inspiring grassroots youth work charity based in London, dedicated to transforming the lives of young people through engaging and empowering community initiatives. As a start-up organisation currently pending registration as a charity, we are fuelled by the passion and commitment of our volunteers who believe in the potential of every young person.

Our Mission

At Urban Youth, we aim to divert young people away from risky behaviours and crime by providing them with meaningful opportunities and experiences. We understand that the challenges facing the youth of London today are significant, but we also know that with the right support, they can thrive. Our mission is to create a safe and positive environment where young individuals can explore their interests, develop new skills, and build lasting friendships.

Community Engagement

We believe that community is at the heart of change. By collaborating with local organisations, schools, and community leaders, we create programmes that resonate with the needs and aspirations of young people. Our activities will range from creative arts workshops to sports events, all designed to foster a sense of belonging and purpose among participants.

Join Us

As a small but dedicated team, we are actively looking to expand our network of volunteers who share our vision for empowering young Londoners. If you live in London and are passionate about making a difference in your community, we invite you to join us! Together, we can inspire change and uplift young lives across London.

Get Involved

Your involvement can make a real impact by providing good governance and oversight to Urban Youth, supporting our CEO and Team to ensure the success of our new youth work charity ensuring financial stability and transparency.

As our Trustee on the Board of Trustees, you will be responsible for;

  • Support and provide advice on Urban Youth’s purpose, vision, goals, and activities.
  • Lead on and approve operational strategies and policies, and to monitor and evaluate the progress.
  • Ensure the effective administration of the organisation.
  • Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored, and controlled effectively.
  • Review and approve Urban Youth’s financial statements and lead on our financial stability.
  • Provide good governance and advice, guidance and support to Urban Youth’s CEO and the wider team.
  • Keep abreast of changes in Urban Youth’s operating environment.
  • Contribute to regular reviews of Urban Youth’s own governance.
  • Attend quarterly board meetings, and adequately prepare to actively contribute to discussions and decisions.
  • Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect Urban Youth’s interests, to the exclusion of your own personal and/or any third-party interests.
  • Contribute to the broader promotion of Urban Youth’s objects, aims, and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge, and contacts.
  • As a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

Join us at Urban Youth as we embark on this exciting journey to empower the next generation!
