This job is to work as an advisor to Neurodiverse Connection. The person in this job will help us hear from other people with a learning disability. The project is to meet and hear from people who have been in mental health hospitals. We will be finding out about what went well and what could have been better.
We want to make sure that our information, conversations and activities are easy to understand for people with a learning disability. You’ll be helping us to get it right.
Sometimes you will be helping us write questions, sometimes you will be meeting people in hospital to find out about their experience. Sometimes you might come to workshops to help us run them well. We also want your help to think about what people tell us. You will help us tell people what we have found out in a way that is easy to understand.
We really want to hear from some people who don’t often get the chance to say what they think. We will be meeting with some people to do workshops and activities. We will be meeting other people online. You can work with us to help us make this interesting and easy to understand for people with a learning disability.
The work time is not fixed for this job and working days will change across the month. The person will be paid for half a day each week. This will mean that the person might work a full day one week and not work the next week, but that payment will always be the same at the end of each month. We will agree working days and time with the person.
Role Description
- To help us reach and engage people with a learning disability.
- Help us make easy read information.
- Help us write easy read and easy to understand interview questions.
- Help make workshops interesting and easy to understand for people with a learning disability.
- Help people with a learning disability take part in interviews and workshops. These may be online or in-person.
- To represent Neurodiverse Connection nationally, regionally and locally and tell people about the work that we do.
- To work alongside the Neurodiverse Connection team to do high quality work.
- Travel nationally and especially within the areas of Bristol, North Somerset, North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Bath, Swindon and Wiltshire is an important part of this job.

We are looking for an HR Advisor to join our dedicated Business Partnering team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven charity while supporting HR Business Partners in delivering high-quality HR services. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting your designated region across a wide spectrum of HR topics. You will provide professional guidance on a variety of Employee Relations matters including assisting managers in navigating complex ER cases.
This role offers a collaborative environment with strong support from your Business Partnering Colleagues, while also providing significant flexibility and autonomy in managing your daily responsibilities.
Main responsibilities:
- Provide expert ER advice to managers and staff across your dedicated region, with a particular focus on managing attendance, and performance.
- Support the development of action plans based on management reports and insights for your place.
- Act as a key representative in disciplinary and performance meetings, ensuring fair and consistent outcomes.
- Assist the HR Business Partner in consultations related to proposed organizational changes.
- Collaborate with colleagues in Payroll and other HR functions to resolve queries promptly and support overall HR objectives.
- Work autonomously, managing your own diary and workload, with the flexibility to plan your time efficiently.
Key Criteria:
- Solid experience in a generalist HR role, particularly in a fast-paced multi-site organization.
- A proven track record in advising on complex Employee Relations issues, including misconduct, performance, and change management.
- A high level of emotional intelligence and the ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and tact.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on building positive working relationships in a remote environment
- Self-motivated, with the ability to manage your time and work autonomously, while being part of a supportive, collaborative team.

Key responsibilities:
Strategic Financial Management
- Develop and implement the charity’s financial strategy to align it to the charity’s main strategy and support long-term goals.
- Provide financial insights to the leadership team to guide decision-making and resource allocation.
- Lead on the preparation of the annual budget, ensuring alignment with the charity's strategic objectives.
- Monitor and forecast financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Work with the Treasurer and trustees to develop and update financial policies and procedures as part of the Resources Committee.
- Keep under review AvMA reserves strategy and policy and recommend changes as necessary.
Day to Day Financial Duties
- Manage and oversee all financial transactions, including accounts payable & receivable, payroll and banking.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts and cash flow reports.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, including VAT, Gift Aid, and charity reporting standards.
- In conjunction with our investment advisers, support the trustees and CEO with the management of an investment portfolio including the planning of necessary drawdowns for cashflow management purposes.
- Oversee the preparation of year-end accounts and liaise with external auditors.
- Maintain and update financial systems, ensuring robust controls are in place.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Act as a financial advisor to the CEO, trustees and senior leadership team on all matters.
- Present financial reports at board and committee meetings, explaining complex financial data in an accessible way.
- Work closely with fundraising, operations and medico legal teams to align financial plans with organisational objectives.
- Provide mentorship and support to junior finance staff and/or volunteers, as applicable.
Other Duties
- To undertake other duties as required commensurate with this post.
- To attend quarterly Board meetings in person in London.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CIPFA) or equivalent financial experience.
- Proven experience in financial management, ideally within a charity or non-profit organisation.
- Strong knowledge of UK charity accounting standards (SORP) and regulatory requirements as they apply to charities.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement financial strategies.
- Proficiency in financial software (e.g. Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to articulate clearly and effectively both in writing, on the telephone and face to face.
- Ability to lead, manage and work effectively both as a member of a team and on own initiative. Be well organised and remain calm under pressure.
- Forward thinking and able to suggest appropriate changes to AvMA’s services to meet the changing needs of the public and the clinical negligence marketplace.
- Passion, commitment and drive to promote patient rights and follow the aims of AvMA.
- IT literate and confident with technological change. Able to identify opportunities to improve our data collection systems; an awareness of the power of social media and how to use it to promote AvMA’s work.

Role responsibilities:
- Financial Processing (60%): Manage QuickBooks, raise invoices, monitor debtors, handle staff expenses, assist with banking, gift aid, year-end procedures, VAT returns, and payroll.
- Operational & Administrative Tasks (40%): Organise meetings, manage HR systems, support recruitment and onboarding, liaise with suppliers, maintain policies and procedures, support EDI initiatives, manage volunteers, and handle general administration.
Experience and qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent qualification, or extensive experience in a similar role (desirable).
- Accounting qualification (AAT Level 3) or extensive experience (essential).
- Double entry bookkeeping and QuickBooks experience (essential).
