‘I AM Brent’ consortium

Step Up Hub leads a consortium, known as I AM Brent, that consists of six well-respected local charities who are working together to address the root causes and effects of violence affecting young people in the London Borough of Brent.

Programme Description

The programme is part of the Mayor of London’s flagship violence reduction programme, known as MyEnds. It is a place-based violence reduction initiative that adopts a public health approach. The consortium is providing an array of positive opportunities for young people and support for families, including through tailored interventions. The programme also aims to improve statutory and voluntary organisation networks and access to referral, and to ensure the voices of young people and community members are built into provision. The work is focused on the Church Road Estate, Stonebridge Estate, St Raphael’s Estate, Chalkhill Estate and Harlesden Town Centre areas.

The Role of the Community Engagement Lead

The Community Engagement Lead will be a key member of the team delivering the I AM Brent MyEnds programme. They will develop and maintain strong relationships with the breadth of young and older community members, and local businesses to conduct community engagement. They will subscribe to the values of co-production and work positively in accordance with I AM Brent’s Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding, Data Protection and Health and Safety policies.

In addition, the Community Engagement Lead will:

· act as the primary contact for requests from the community for information about I AM Brent’s services and events,

· disseminate to the community information about I AM Brent’s services, community fund, and events,

· organise, and support the delivery of, community engagement events, youth forums and community forums,

· encourage community participation,

· provide status reports regarding upcoming community outreach, engagement, events, and initiatives to consortium                members and community members, and provide end of community activity reports to the Programme Manager,

· summarise views of community members about their needs and ideas to improve safety,

· signpost community members to support following outreach activities,

· process referrals to the I AM Brent programme,

· support the organisation and administration of talks at community centres, places of worship, and community events,            on supporting young people’s safety,

· support the organisation and administration of parenting programmes,

· represent I AM Brent and Step Up Hub at meetings, forums, roundtable discussions and related events,

· help recruit and line manage community volunteers.

The Community Engagement Lead will be supported by the I AM Brent MyEnds Programme Manager, Step Up Hub senior leadership team and consortium members, and will work closely with I AM Brent’s Network and Communications Lead.

Background to School Food Matters

School Food Matters (SFM) exists to teach children about food and to improve children’s access to healthy, sustainable food during their time at school. We provide fully funded food education programmes to schools. Our experience delivering these programmes informs and strengthens our campaigns, bringing the voices of children, parents and teachers to government policy.

About Young Marketeers

Young Marketeers is our flagship food education programme which gives primary school children an opportunity to learn about food production, grow their own veg, and set up a stall at their local community market. The programme began in 2013 at London’s Borough Market.  Now, thanks to the support of The National Lottery’s Community Fund, we are taking the programme to cities across England.

Job Purpose

· To manage our Young Marketeers programme across England

Key Tasks include:

Staff management and training

• Provide support and training to a team of freelance Project Officers/Gardeners across the country
• Organise induction of new staff, including development of resources and training packages

Partner relationships

• Conduct desk research on schools and partners in new cities for recruitment

· Maintain good relationships with freelance team, schools and local partners, and visit regions

You’ll be working with the local church to manage the delivery of Resurgo's award-winning Spear Programme. In this role, you’ll be responsible for:

The Lead Coach is primarily responsible for overseeing the training room and group sessions with young people. You will help shape the training environment and will confidently adapt and deliver materials and sessions to work within the group’s development towards work readiness.

Delivery of Spear Programme - Group and 1:1 coaching [60%]

• Preparing and coaching Spear Foundation sessions and 1-1s, ensuring that young people are engaged, retained and work-ready by the end of this initial phase of the programme
• Building relationships with young people on the programme and managing culture, and attitudes in the training room
• Adapting the Spear coaching material according to the needs of the Trainees and managing behaviour effectively

Overall purpose

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations initially, the role holder will have technical leadership and overall responsibility for managing the Data and Innovation team. This team helps Breaking Barriers maximise the value of its data, by conducting analysis and managing the CRM (Salesforce) and related software.

The team works across all areas of the organisation to improve processes, unlock efficiencies through automation and generate insights from data. They ensure that data is utilised to inform any innovations or refinements to our services.

The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial manager with a high level of data literacy. We are looking for someone strategic, highly organised and a strong people and team manager. They will be confident at communicating data in a variety of ways to a large range of audiences, identifying key take-aways and the broader implications of the findings on our clients and programming. They will also be able to train others in key data analysis and communication skills.

The Role

Your work will include delivering Ashden’s 2025 awards and collaborating with colleagues to set the process by which the winners will be chosen. You will oversee the communication with finalists, and support panels of expert judges to decide the champions.

You will also collaborate with colleagues to ensure delivery of a high-profile awards ceremony in London next summer. You will support the international award winners as they visit the UK to take part in that event and lead the integration of all the 2025 winners into ongoing projects and programmes. 

Your responsibilities will include development and oversight of the relevant budget. You will report to the Editor.

What you will be doing:

• Working with colleagues on the programme teams to deliver the awards process.
• Overseeing the assessment and judging process; winners liaison; planning for integration into support programmes. 
• Work closely with the fundraising team to ensure the sponsor requirements are met. 
• Management of awards budgets, including contracts with suppliers.
• Generation of insights and data through the awards process to feed into the organisational monitoring, evaluation and learning process.

The charity boosts climate innovation in the UK and Global South. It’s support brings clean energy to African villages and refugee camps and fixes up the UK’s cold and draughty homes. It makes schools more sustainable, and helps communities protect and restore the nature around them.

Utilising your previous retail experience and excellent managerial skills, you will manage the day to day running of our store - maximising store sales and profits while ensuring our customers receive an excellent service. As Store Manager, you will manage our brilliant team of staff and volunteers, providing effective leadership, training, and development.

Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to handle/lift bags of stock (up to 10kgs.)

The Finance and Operations Officer will provide general support to the Head of Finance and Operations across the following areas: 

Office Management

• Managing day-to-day relationship with landlord

• Ensuring office meets all health & safety requirements

• Managing purchases of stationery and office equipment 

• Booking meeting rooms

• Organising catering for internal meetings 

• Supporting with new office search and move to new premises

• Liaising with utility, cleaning and security providers in new premises if required

Human Resources

• Liaising with the external HR providers regarding employee documents

• Maintaining  employee personnel records ensuring that all annual leave and sick leave is recorded correctly

• Assisting in the recruitment of new posts

• Onboarding and welcoming new employees, including ensuring newcomers have the necessary IT and office equipment and access to the required IT systems 

• Coordinate annual staff surveys and collate responses

Operations

• Assisting the CEO and the wider team with administrative tasks

• Liaising with our external IT providers to ensuring all IT equipment is functioning and replaced when required

• Organising away days and other large meetings 

• Reviewing/renewing supplier contracts annually (including insurance provider)

Governance

• Organising Trustee meetings 

• Attending and taking notes at specific meetings (e.g. Trustee, Advisory Board, team away days)

• Updating the Charity Commission for changes in Trustees and submission of annual returns 

• Ensuring all policy documents are up to date and reviewed within the correct time frame 

Finance

• Processing invoices and expenses and coordinating twice monthly payment runs

• Reconciliation of the monthly corporate card bills

• Keeping the fixed asset register up-to-date

• Bank account administration 

• Collation of information for the auditors

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate the following skills and experiences: 

Essential

• Reliable, trustworthy and discreet

• Excellent organisational skills

• Confident user of Microsoft or Google packages, in particular excel spreadsheets or google sheets, Word or google docs

• Good written and verbal communication skills

• Good numeracy skills 

Desirable

• Previous experience as personal assistant or office manager

• Demonstrable interest in mental health and other key issues on which the charity works

• Previous bookkeeping experience including use of accounting software 

• Comfortable using IT systems generally (e.g. online banking, web-based platforms)

Terms and Conditions

• Location: Money and Mental Health’s central London office for at least 2 days per week with option for home working the rest of the time. The office is wheelchair accessible.

• Hours: 3 to 4 days (22.5 to 30 hours) a week. The charity has a flexible working policy with core hours of 10am - 3pm and remaining contracted hours distributed throughout the week flexibly. We are open to discussing other flexible arrangements, such as accommodating school runs.

• Holidays: 28 days p.a. (including 3 days of annual leave between Christmas and New Year when the office is closed) plus bank holidays, adjusted for the part-time nature of this post and therefore calculated on a pro rata basis.
