The ME Association is dedicated to supporting people affected by ME/ CFS (Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome). We fund biomedical research, campaign for change and provide a wide range of support services to help those with ME/CFS.
As Fundraising Officer, you’ll play a vital role in securing funding to help people with ME/ CFS. You can make a positive difference to thousands of peoples lives.
We are looking for someone who
- has experience of fundraising ideally in community or challenge event fundraising
- has excellent written and verbal skills – with experience of building strong relationships
- Is an open and friendly person who takes pride in being a positive change in the world
- has excellent project management and time management skills

- has a sound understanding of the principles of fundraising including ethical fundraising and GDPR compliance
- has used Raisers Edge or equivalent fundraising database
- has a high level of competence using Microsoft Office software and is able to quickly adapt to new technologies
You will be responsible for:
- Providing a high standard of stewardship for supporters, nurturing existing supporters, thanking donors, and supporting charity events, such as our supporter reception.
- Developing our charity fundraising appeals
- Developing and promoting the challenge events portfolio.
- Keeping the fundraising pages updated, helping to design and produce fundraising materials (flyers and fundraising packs).
- You will be working closely with the Fundraising and Development Manager and will be required to support the wider Communications team where needed with additional fundraising activities.
This position is home-based with occasional travel for fundraising events.
Initially a 12 month contract, but with the possibility of becoming a permanent position for the right candidate.
A driving license isn’t essential. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for events.
The successful candidate will be IT literate, an excellent communicator, highly organised with a strong attention to detail.
A background in fundraising is required, although this could be from voluntary work. An understanding of ME/CFS is desirable.
A bit more about the role....
Stewardship
- Monitoring the fundraising inbox, acting as a first point of contact for a wide range of supporters and enquirers.
- Developing individual giving income through enhanced communications, great stewardship and supporting on fundraising appeals.
- Nurturing our regular givers and looking for ways to grow our regular-giving donor base.
- Completing thanking processes efficiently for donations.
- Developing and managing tools and resources to support fundraising events such as sending out t-shirts, posters, flyers, donation boxes and fundraising packs when requested.
- Liaising with the communications team to create promotional materials to advertise events through the website and social media channels to increase engagement.
Administration
- Keeping accurate records of all prospect and supporter interactions on our CRM system, Raisers Edge NXT.
- Optimising fundraising and donation opportunities at key charity events, researching and recording information.
- Supporting the Fundraising and Development Manager as and when needed.
- Working with colleagues across, communications and services teams to ensure a smooth flow of information to support fundraising promotion and engagement.

We’re looking for an experienced fundraiser who has the research, proposal writing and budget development experience to deliver on our fundraising strategy by securing new sources of income from grant making foundations and government programmes, coupled with the strategic planning and management skills to further diversify our income by building our individual donations. The role requires developing existing connections and leads and identifying and building new relationships in order to deliver ~£1 million a year in funding. You’ll be our sole fundraiser, coordinating with our Chief Executive and brilliant, friendly, multidisciplinary programme teams to develop workable, fundable proposals, and to manage and report on grants, acting as the main relationship holder for funders. You will need to be inventive in seeking out potential new funders, and to quickly grasp how the organisation works, with a good understanding of how our technology-led climate, transparency and democracy programmes sit within and extend the reach of broader systems of impact.
The ideal candidate will be an exceptional communicator, proactive and tenacious at finding and following up leads, flexible and collaborative in approach, with good knowledge of the broader funding landscape and relevant and active connections and networks.
This is a full-time fixed term maternity cover role for 9 - 12 months, starting in February or early March 2025. Ideally this would be a full time role, four days might be considered for the right candidate.

What does the role involve?

Deliver on and refine our four year fundraising strategy, building and maintaining a good understanding of the needs of each of our programmes, priorities and desired charitable goals

Frame our current and planned activity to appropriately align with the priorities of potential funders

Identify new leads for unrestricted grant funding to support our existing and core activity

Identify relevant restricted grant funding for projects that align with our existing priorities and new adjacent areas

This is a fixed-term maternity cover contract with a pro-rated salary in the range of £55,000 to £65,000 per year, plus pension (4% employer, 4% employee).

The Role
The Supporter Journey Team is responsible for delivering world-class behavioural journeys for our charity partners.

About the Role

About the Role
This interim role will play a pivotal part in the future of the charity by leading the team and our network of local partnerships to support those experiencing, or at risk of experiencing homelessness.
This high-impact role requires an independent and strategic leader who can balance managing existing partnerships with identifying and cultivating new opportunities and exploring options for a sustainable future for the charity.
We anticipate this role is needed initially for a six- month period to complete an options appraisal for the future. A longer-term appointment is possible, depending on the outcome of the appraisal.

About the Responsibilities
Manage existing SSN locations:
- Manage relationships with existing locations and strengthen engagement with them, ensuring they receive tailored support and we receive maximum income.
- Use our CRM system to track partnership engagement, including relationship status, history and payments. This will likely include engaging with partners regarding outstanding payments.
- Host and facilitate quarterly online network events to encourage collaboration amongst SSN locations. Support our locations with managing their data integrity. This will include recruiting and managing volunteers. Measure and report on impact using Theory of Change and other metrics, both internally and for our partners. Be responsive to enquiries from potential new partnerships.
Support the Street Support Network Team:
- Provide appropriate support and direction to the two team members.
- Host and lead regular team meetings to ensure communication, engagement and collaboration.
- Meet regularly with Chair of Trustees and Finance Advisor. Prepare Reports for Trustees and attend Trustee meetings to present advice and support actions agreed.
Income Maximisation and Fundraising:
- Work closely with our Finance Advisor to maximise fee income from existing SSN locations.
- Collaborate with our external fundraiser to identify additional funding opportunities and submit compelling grant applications to supplement fee income covering the charities’ core costs.
- Provide guidance to local partners on their fundraising initiatives and grant applications to meet their SSN fees.
Explore and present an options appraisal for the future of Street Support Network:
- Work with Trustees, team and external partners to explore options for the future of SSN to include options for expansion and development of new products and services or for consolidation.
- Collect evidence and undertake stakeholder consultation and provide written reports to Trustees to help with decision making.
- Develop action plans for taking strategy forward.
About You
Essential Requirements:
- Significant knowledge and experience of the homelessness and charitable sectors
- Strong leadership skills and ability to manage, lead and motivate a small dedicated team
- Experience of managing budgets, contributing to strategy development and charity governance
- Experience of working with a variety of stakeholders including local authorities and VCSE organisations.
