All our Benefits Advocates play an integral role within our Information and Advice team and last year helped us to identify over £2.5 million in unclaimed welfare benefits entitlement for older people in the county. This money is life changing for our clients; improving quality of life and wellbeing, and supporting local services
We are looking for volunteers who are patient, sensitive and reliable, to assist older people to complete benefit forms such as Attendance Allowance. Appointments are usually in the older person's own home but can sometimes take place over the telephone. Full training and ongoing support are provided by our friendly and knowledgeable team - all based in Devon, UK.
Our volunteers will also raise awareness of and promote Age UK Devon services to clients, and record details of any other queries or concerns so that our Advisors can follow up with clients.
Skills required for this role are:
· Ability to empathise with others.
· Good verbal and written communication skills.
· Understanding of confidentiality.
· Patience, sensitivity, and reliability.
· Ability to respond appropriately to different and sometimes difficult situations.
· Working as a team member, referring to other team members when appropriate.

Top Church Training are a registered charity whose overall focus is to support personal development, improve employment prospects, provide practical help through difficult times and offer a gateway through which people can become more involved in community life.
We are seeking a Company Secretary who can use their skills and capabilities to assist the Board to operate efficiently and effectively. You will also help the charity to continue providing vital support to those who need it.
What will you be doing?
This role is for someone who is organised and methodical, with an eye for detail. You will take minutes at Board meetings and make sure the charity follows company law. You will also participate fully in Board meetings and play an important part in the strategic direction of the charity.
Together the Trustees are collectively responsible for the governance and management of the Charity, including regulatory compliance. However, the Company Secretary is expected to lead on all aspects of the charities adherence to legal and regulatory requirements, that includes submission of documentation to the appropriate body.
This includes being able to present and explain any requirements to other Trustees, to aid the Board’s understanding and ability to jointly make decisions about changes to the charities governance matters.

What is a Volunteering Coordinator?
Volunteering Coordinators are a key role within the team, leading on the local recruitment, induction, on-going support and celebration of volunteers. As the first point of contact for volunteering in the branch, they ensure volunteers are welcomed and supported.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles and fundraisers.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of SSAFA. We have been involving volunteers in supporting the Armed Forces community for more than 130 years. Our beneficiaries come from all backgrounds and age groups. To continue providing help when it’s needed most, Volunteering Coordinators ensure that SSAFA has a diverse and committed network of volunteers who are skilled, supported and valued.
What would you be doing?
- Although every SSAFA Branch has different needs, below are the main activities of a Volunteering Coordinator.
- Keeping in touch: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date lists of branch volunteer details and checking in with people about their volunteer experience.
- Supporting volunteer recruitment: Working alongside the Branch Chair to monitor volunteer numbers and develop plans to recruit new volunteers as required, for example, using online volunteer recruitment platforms.
- Creating local links: Taking opportunities to advertise and promote volunteering opportunities locally, including linking with local volunteer centres and community groups.
- Welcoming and supporting: In partnership with SSAFA central office teams, supporting the recruitment and induction of new volunteers e.g., carrying out informal interviews and ensuring every volunteer has an identified volunteer manager.
- Celebrating and saying thank you: Seeking ways to celebrate volunteering and to say thank you to volunteers for their efforts.
- Being a volunteering champion: Working with the regional Volunteer Development Manager to promote volunteering best practice across the branch and ensure volunteers have the best possible experience with SSAFA.
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.
What training and support would you receive?
- Role specific training to prepare you for your voluntary role – confidentiality and boundaries, volunteer management – attracting, recruiting, and inducting volunteers. This course lasts approx. 3 hours.
- Mandatory on-line training modules to complete at home, so you are up to date on how to keep clients, their families safe and personal information safe.
- Local induction and support, from other branch volunteers.
- Access to a range of e-learning courses as well as local opportunities to keep your knowledge and skills up to date.
- Support from Regional volunteering and operations staff.
- Regular meetings and events to learn and share information.
- Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses.
- Volunteers will be covered by SSAFA's Public Liability insurance while carrying out the role.

We are recruiting 7 volunteer board members to join our newly created STEP EbE Advisory Board. All board members will have lived experience of forced migration. The STEP EbE Advisory Board will be a structured and collaborative way for World Jewish Relief to engage with external advisors (in this case, volunteer board members) to advise and help on programme design and decision-making.
World Jewish Relief created the Specialist Training and Employment Programme (STEP) for refugees in 2016 and today we are the largest provider of specialist employment support to refugees in the UK.STEP aims to support and empower people with experience of forced migration through a tailored employment programme that addresses the complex barriers refugees face in preparing for, and ultimately finding, work in the UK.
The board members’ responsibilities will vary depending on the topic of advice in discussion, however, suggested activities include:
- Board member meetings to discuss ideas and create recommendations
- Group and 1:2:1s meetings with STEP stakeholders (employment advisors, participants, WJR board, partners)
- Document reviews (e.g. programme materials)
- Presenting recommendations in different formats (e.g writing, speaking)
- Attending optional training sessions chosen by the board
About you
We are looking for board members who:
- Have lived experience of forced migration i.e. refugee status, humanitarian protection, people seeking asylum, and Ukrainian extension scheme
- Have intermediate and above understanding of English (B1+)
- Can commit to 4-6 hours a month
- Comfortable with IT, training can be provided
- Have or interested in developing the following skills:
- Empathy & emotional awareness
- Learning mindset
- Able to work well in collaborative settings
- Good communication skills
- Being open-minded and honest
- Board members can have experience of being on STEP as a participant, but it is not a requirement. We aim for there to be a mix of experience with STEP on the board.

Overview
Esteem works with young adults aged 14 - 26 to build lasting self-Esteem and stronger communities through group activities and 1-2-1 support.
Esteem creates spaces where everyone matters.
Esteem works with over 200 young adults annually across all of Sussex who face barriers to achieving their life goals. We have a base in Shoreham and offer a variety of different opportunities, including social drop-in sessions, mentoring, wellbeing sessions, volunteering and counselling. We have a dedicated staff team with various backgrounds and a commitment to championing the views of young adults throughout the organisation.
This is an exciting opportunity to volunteer for a charity that is passionate about giving young adults the chance to develop their skills and confidence, both for their own benefit and for that of society as a whole. Esteem works with young adults to run Wellbeing, Social, Mentoring and Volunteering opportunities, with a youth-led and asset-based approach.
This voluntary role of Trustee Safeguarding Lead is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the effective implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures within Esteem. The role requires a commitment to protecting the welfare of all beneficiaries, volunteers, and staff, ensuring that the organisation meets its legal and moral obligations to safeguard vulnerable individuals.
As part of the Board of Trustees you will be jointly and severally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, the probity of its activities and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. All trustees should also be aware of, and understand, their individual and collective responsibilities, and should not be overly reliant on one or more individual trustees in any particular aspect of the governance of the charity.

The Trustee Safeguarding Lead will be expected to contribute around 6 hours per month to the organisation, including board meetings, which run for two hours every two months, from 6-8pm at The Old School House, Shoreham. A minimum commitment of two years would be preferable. This post requires some flexibility due to the nature of Esteem being a growing organisation.
Your regular tasks and responsibilities will include:

About Kith & Kids
We provide activities, opportunities, information, and support for people with a learning disability or autism, their parents and siblings.
For all our projects and activities we are dependent on volunteers.
Our Summer Project
Fri 27th – Tue 31st December, 9:30am – 5:30pm in North London.
We are currently looking for energetic and enthusiastic volunteers, to join us on our fantastic fun-filled Xmas Social Development Project.
Volunteers and our members who have disabilities get to know each other as they take part in fun and challenging workshops including sports & games, arts & crafts, cooking and enjoying a day out in London.
What you'll do
On the project you and a fellow volunteer will be paired with one of our members with a learning disability or autism. You'll support and encourage them to take part in a wide range of activities led by professional therapists and workshop leaders.
Our core activities are sports & games, arts & crafts, drama and music. Previous additional workshops have also included photography, football and cooking and you’ll plan your own exciting outing around London with a fellow volunteer and the Kith & Kids member you're linked with.
Not only is it a week full of fun and games for you and our members, you are a vital part in supporting them to develop their social skills in a day-to-day environment.

What you need
You do not need experience. Full disability awareness training will be provided before you begin volunteering with us.
The only requirements we ask of you are enthusiasm, energy and to be open-minded.
Minimum age for volunteers is 18.
How much time?
The project runs for 5 days, Fri 27th – Tue 31st December, 9:30am – 5:30pm in North London.
Everyone gets the most out of the project if you come for the full five days as you'll build a close relationship with the member you'll have been supporting and will create the most impact.

Formerly known as The Disabilities Trust, we have over 40 years of experience in brain injury rehabilitation. In 2023, we relaunched as Brainkind, signalling a bold new chapter in our mission to champion the rights and recovery of people affected by brain injury living with neurological conditions.
We are the UK’s leading charity supporting people living with acquired brain injuries and other neurological conditions. Our services include independent hospitals, neurological centres, residential homes, and supported living services.
In 2023, we successfully acquired three new neurological care services to support people with Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s, and multiple sclerosis. We are also proud to have opened our purpose-built neurological hospital in York—an award-winning building that shows just how services like ours should be built. Next year, we will open a new neurobehavioural rehabilitation service in Hertfordshire.
We’re two years into a seven-year strategy designed to expand our services, amplify our voice in the sector, advocate for social change, and improve funding, awareness and prioritisation.

Our Trustees scrutinise, constructively challenge, and support the senior leadership team in pursuing its mission and ambitions. They promote our values and hold the executive accountable for meeting agreed-upon goals and strategic objectives. Time Commitment
The Board meets four times a year, usually for up to four hours, in central London, and we have an annual ‘Strategy Away Day’, which is generally overnight, including a visit to one of our services.
We ask that our Trustees join 1 – 2 of our committees. Committees meet between two and up to six times a year, depending on the committee and this is for up to two hours, usually conducted virtually.

We are looking for a confident, friendly, organised person to join Citizens Advice Test Valley. We are looking for new trustees to work at Citizens Advice Test Valley. We are a well-established charity - we work hard as team to help the community of Test Valley and are supported by a small team of trustees.
Trustees are volunteers who are expected to use their skills, knowledge and experience to help guide and govern. They work with the Chief Officer and other staff to shape strategy and give direction.
This includes making sure that their local Citizens Advice is:
- Doing what it was set-up to do, such as offering high quality advice services to the local community.
- Complying with the law, including upkeep of premises, insurance, recruitment and equipment.
- Securing money to meet current and new demands, and that all funds are used responsibly.
- Recognised and valued by local organisations, funders and people, who are aware of the vital service their local Citizens Advice provides.
Attendance at regular meetings is expected by all trustees. Sometimes trustees will get involved in additional governance projects, such as supporting fundraising, developing strategy or overseeing HR procedures.
Within a board, some trustees will have a specific role, such as being the Chair, Treasurer or Secretary. These positions have defined responsibilities, such as chairing and facilitating meetings (Chair), overseeing the budget (Treasurer) and taking and circulating minutes (Secretary).
No specific qualifications are required to be a trustee. We welcome people of all ages, backgrounds and experience who are passionate about advice services and can bring innovative ideas, unique perspectives and good judgement.
Your time commitment will be about 4 hours every month undertaking trustee business.
Most trustee boards meet in the evenings to allow people to fit around full-time employment or studying. However, outside of meetings, trustees may be required to give additional support, such as working with members of staff on key projects (such as budgeting, recruitment or communications).

The role of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the financial, fundraising, and resources of the charity and to report to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals on these matters in line with best practice, and in compliance with CJA charitable objectives, governing document and other legal requirements.
Key responsibilities
Strategy and Governance
- To advise in the development and evolvement of the CJA’s strategy and work with particular regard to ensuring that the organisation has resources to deliver the strategy.
- Ensure that the Board is aware of its financial duties and responsibilities and the need to comply with relevant charitable and company legislation.
- Ensure healthy management by the Board of agreed risks by overseeing the maintenance of the risk register.
- Ensure compliance with the Memorandum and Articles of Association, the Charities Statement of Recommended practices (SORP), and other application legislation including Company and Charity law.
Financial Management
- Ensure that the Board receives appropriate budgetary and financial information on the activities of the organisation.
- Monitor the financial management of the CJA and report to the Board regularly and in line with best practice, on the robustness of internal controls, management accounting and budgeting.
- Recommend to the Board appropriate accounting procedures, controls and policies.
- Provide financial advice and guidance to the Board on strategic finance and investment issues.
- • Work in close partnership with the Director in executing the CJA’s fundraising strategy.
General responsibilities
- Chair the Finance and Resources sub-committee in line with its terms of reference.
- Act as a counter signatory on bank accounts and relevant applications to funders or other legal documents.
- Present the CJA’s statutory accounts at the Annual General Meeting.
- Oversee the appointment of the Independent Examiner annually.

- Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
- Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
- Following new health, safety and social distancing measures to ensure the safety of everyone
