The Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join us in the brand new role of Governance and Executive Officer.

You will provide proactive and efficient secretariat and administrative support to the Executive and Non-Executive Teams, working closely with the Leadership Team to support the fulfilment of their day-to-day tasks and strategic objectives.

The role includes supporting and organising meetings and reports, and minuting of executive meetings. In addition to general PA and administrative duties, you will provide a cohesive secretariat function to support the smooth and efficient operation of the Mind THNR Board and its sub-committees.

You will work closely with the  Leadership Team to set agendas, monitor action logs, and provide a high level of support to the Board. You will share collective responsibility for supporting the delivery of business objectives, through active engagement and collaboration with colleagues at all levels in the organisation

This role is flexible in terms of days and hours, although you need to attend Board meetings in person, once a quarter in the evening and committee meetings, which are also in the evening, but on line, so three evening meetings a quarter. We are based in a beautiful office in Tower Hamlets, with lots of outside space and a café, so ideally you would be present in the office two or three days a week ( if full time).

Are you enthusiastic, collaborative, with excellent communication skills and an eye for a story? Our charity team is looking for a dynamic self-starter to join our team as Communications Assistant. Through making social media posts, creating engaging content or writing stories, you’ll play an integral role in communicating our impact and stories to our key audiences.

At Horatio’s Garden, we build and look after extraordinary gardens in the heart of NHS spinal injury centres. These gardens are a critical part of rehabilitation and offer reflection and adjustment, privacy and solace, joy and companionship to all who need it. We lead regular gardening sessions to grow and cultivate plants, arts workshops to offer new skills and a programme of live music and events. Designed to be enjoyed all year round, these gardens offer a warm, welcoming place for family and friends who may have travelled hours for a visit.

Our vision is for everyone with a spinal injury to have a Horatio’s Garden as part of their rehabilitation care.

The charity is growing. With seven garden projects open, we have an eighth garden under construction in Sheffield. A smaller version of this garden won ‘Best in Show’ at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May 2023 as the first show garden designed for people with mobility needs, which significantly increased our profile.

Following a strategic digital review, you will support the rollout of the new digital strategy to place storytelling and impact at the heart of our communications.

This role will assist with the content creation of engaging written, film and visual content across different platforms, scheduling and moderating our social channels, and helping us report on our digital activity.

It would suit someone looking to start or build their career in the communications field or charity sector to develop experience in developing content, writing and charity campaigning. There will be opportunities for training and development and you will travel between the charity’s UK-wide gardens and meet patients, volunteers and staff.

This is a full-time role (37.5 hours a week) based in the charity’s office in Salisbury. You will be reporting to the Communications Manager.

Main duties

• Help manage the day-to-day running of the charity’s social media (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook). Schedule content and respond to comments and messages to foster positive engagement and add value to the supporter experience
• Work closely with the team to produce subscriber, campaign-led and post-event newsletter content and manage the subscriber database
• Contribute to the charity’s content calendar and work creatively and collaboratively with the communications and wider charity team to proactively seek and develop story ideas in line with the charity’s recently updated digital strategy
• Create engaging written, photographic, design and video content in support of charity objectives and reflecting our brand and tone guidelines
• Assist with internal communications to communicate key updates to staff on the charity’s WhatsApp group
• Assist in maintaining and updating Horatio’s Garden’s main website
• Help to manage the charity’s digital assets, ensuring the team have access to the most impactful photographs and videos for their needs
• Collate, analyse and present monthly reports on social media, newsletter and website activity and engagement against key performance metrics
• Assist with planning and promotion of campaigns and track press activity
• Keep up to date with the latest digital marketing trends and technologies

General duties 

• Support the wider team with administrative duties that support the smooth running of the charity
• Actively contribute to team and organisation meetings

Skills required

• Strong interest/experience in creating content for digital channels
• Good understanding of the digital landscape, including trends
• Excellent writing and editorial skills with attention to detail
• Able to create accessible, engaging content
• Strong administrative and organisational skills
• Good IT and software skills and willingness to learn – you will be using Microsoft suite, Hootsuite and Mailchimp
• Video editing experience/interest – experience with or willingness to learn Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar
• Flexible, can-do attitude, with the ability to remain calm and professional when under pressure

The charity is keen to promote training and opportunities and we will support the candidate to attend relevant training courses where a need can be demonstrated and to make the most of any opportunities to learn additional skills, for example involvement with filming and photo shoots by professional contractors hired by the charity.

About Horatio’s Garden

Horatio’s Garden nurtures the wellbeing of people after spinal injury in beautiful, vibrant sanctuaries within the heart of NHS spinal injury centres. Leading designers create the accessible gardens where the charity’s team, alongside volunteers and creatives, care for people and plants alike. 

Spinal cord injuries are traumatic events. The gardens are vital places for reflection and adjustment for people facing these life-changing injuries and long stays in hospital. The profoundly positive impact of a Horatio’s Garden is clear for people with spinal injuries and their friends and families as well as hospital staff. Research shows that 100% people see an improvement in their wellbeing with 100% patients on bedrest reporting that the gardens have improved their mental health.

Summary of the role

Our successful charity runs pathways which focus on employability and skills for everyday living to help young people, with SEN and learning disabilities to gain confidence and social support, alongside nationally recognised qualifications. Green Corridor requires the skills of an enthusiastic and reliable Teaching Assistant, who can work effectively with our learners who each have their own additional needs. The candidate we require should ideally have experience and/or affinity for working with young adults with Special Educational Needs. The role would involve supporting learners within their subject area, and functional skills, encouraging them to reach their full potential.

Specific duties and responsibilities of the role

Supporting Young People

• To work with the tutor to establish an appropriate learning environment.
• To work with the tutor on lesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lesson/work plans as appropriate.
• To monitor and evaluate learners’ responses to learning activities through observations and planned recording of achievement against learning objectives.
• To use specialist skills to support learners’ learning such as PECS, Makaton, symbols and iPads. 
• To assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of learning programmes and individual work plans.
• To prepare and assist in the preparation of the classroom, resources and equipment.
• To establish productive working relationships with learners acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
• Communicating with learners with varying degrees of speech and language difficulties, using communicative system/equipment where necessary.
• To promote inclusion and acceptance of all learners within the classroom and across Green Corridor.
• To support learners consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs
• To encourage individual learners to interact and work co-operatively with others whilst engaging in activities.
• To promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and acknowledge achievement and self-reliance.
• To provide feedback to learners in relation to progress and achievement and to provide accurate, evidenced and objective feedback and reports to the tutor.
• To be responsible for keeping and updating records with the tutor and other staff, contributing to reviews as requested.
• To liaise with specialists (such as SALT, OT and Physio) and follow their advice for safety, learning and therapy programmes, as appropriate.

Wellbeing and Safeguarding

• Meet with parents and carers as part of maintaining positive relationships and the full implementation of the Green Corridor’s values and ethos.
• To promote Green Corridor’s values, positive attitudes and good learner behaviour, dealing promptly with conflicts and incidents in line with established policies and procedures, encouraging learners to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
• To supervise learners on visits, trips and out-of-school activities as required
• To support breaktime/lunches and lunchtime supervision within employed hours
• Administer first aid as appropriate
• To carry out Team Teach/MAPA if required

Professional Development 

• To participate in 30 hours CPD per year specific to the needs of learners and Green Corridor, including working towards appropriate qualifications needed to perform your role.
• To keep your own individual Professional Development Plan up to date. 

Other duties 

• Undertake any other task identified as being necessary to fulfil contract requirements or the requirements of an individual support.
• The post holder will be required to undertake other appropriate activities related to achieving the organisations objectives, as determined by the CEO or your line manager.

Essential person specification

• Level 2 Award in Education and Training or willingness to work towards.

Digital Communications Assistant
Salary:  £24,500 - £26,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent

RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Creating, developing and evaluating hyh’s online and social media presence to engage supporters, stakeholders and the wider public and to maximise digital fundraising opportunities. The role also supports the development of digital content to support service delivery at the charity leading on public and internal comms.  

The Digital Communications Assistant will:

Contribute to hyh’s overall Fundraising & Communications strategy as a member of the Fundraising & Communications Team

Improve supporter acquisition and retention through digital channels, building engagement and loyalty.

Source, generate, edit, schedule and post written, visual, audio and video content that drives brand awareness, is shareable and encourages actions to generate income.

With guidance, deliver outstanding and innovative communications for different audiences and across multiple channels which align with hyh’s Comms plan.

Inspire, inform and motivate supporters to give to hyh as well as demonstrating the impact of their donations on beneficiaries. 

Learn to manage a calendar programme of social media and website activity.

After training, act as the first point of contact for social media and our website, responding appropriately and championing and signposting people to the work of hyh

Create and update content for hyh’s website

Develop and grow TikTok content which is engaging and educational, becoming hyh’s expert on this channel

Create digital materials to support the Fundraising team across all income generation streams with their activities and campaigns throughout the year.

Over time, act as a brand champion within hyh, promoting the use of social media and encouraging greater understanding of the website and social media channels

Keep abreast of new developments, trends and technologies, identifying and proposing new digital opportunities for hyh.

Understand, evaluate and circulate social media and website analytics.

Develop digital projects to support delivery of hyh’s services to support young people facing homelessness

Representing Shelter in your local community, ensuring that you and your team share your knowledge of Shelter's cause with customers, volunteers, donors and potential Shelter clients will also be important aspects of the role.

You will always ensure a safe, clean, bright and happy environment for your team to work in and for your customers to shop in, in turn attracting potential donors and volunteers.

Mary's Meals International is recruiting for an experienced Personal Assistant to support our Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & Founder. Reporting directly to our Executive Assistant, in this fast paced and varied role you will provide a variety of support including diary management, attending meetings, taking minutes, managing follow up actions, event coordination, maintaining systems and processes and undertaking specific projects.

Key responsibilities & activities:

· Act as the first point of contact for our CEO, assessing priorities, redirecting calls, enquiries and requests.

· Diary management, including preparation of papers and information in advance.

· Creating letters and other correspondence on behalf of the CEO, proof-reading, and writing reports.

· Liaise with employees, affiliates, partners and donors, as required.

· Maintain online and offline filing systems for CEO.

· Carrying out background research and providing reports on various subjects.

· Support with the management of social media platforms.

· Attend MMI office/and or Dalmally office on a regular basis to support with receiving visitors, arranging hospitality, assisting with video recordings and administration of handwritten letters.

· Organising and preparing complex travel itineraries and making all travel and accommodation arrangements necessary.

With fantastic interpersonal skills and robust experience as a Personal Assistant, you will thrive in a varied, fast paced role and will utilise your exceptional organisational skills to manage the balance of scheduled work with provision of unplanned support. With great communication skills, you will work closely with a range of stakeholders across a variety of geographies and cultures. Confident, competent, resilient, with a solution-focussed approach, you will have the ability to take on a variety of projects with a high level of competence and confidentiality.

This is a predominantly remote role however we will require you to attend our Glasgow and/or Dalmally offices as needed, to meet with our CEO.

We are looking for an enthusiastic HR and Office Administrator with great people skills to be a part of our core Head Office team.

The successful candidate will be willing to get involved in all aspects of our work and thrive in a role engaging with staff all over the country and supporting great internal communications. 

Working closely with our CEO and Senior Management Team, a key part of the role is ensuring that we have effective organisational governance, contracting and HR systems in place. You will also support all aspects of HR, working with our HR Advisor to support recruitment processes, staff checks, induction, and development for our staff team.

The successful applicant will have excellent people skills, the ability to develop and maintain administrative organisational systems, and be happy getting involved in a range of different work. Experience of the charity sector, and experience of supporting HR, would be an asset but are not essential. 

Working days are flexible but likely to require Wednesdays.
