FoodCycle currently runs 93 projects across the UK providing nutritious meals and social connections for those at risk of food poverty and loneliness. We are seeking a candidate with ambitions to further their grant fundraising experience to join our small but highly successful Fundraising Team.​

You will have experience of securing funding, understand what it takes to write a compelling grant application and appreciate the importance of excellent stewardship. You will work alongside our Senior Trusts and Foundations Manager to secure funding from a portfolio of regional trusts that can support our expanding network of community meal projects.​

This role is one of two Development Managers who share responsibility for raising funds from trusts and foundations, and each also manage a discrete other area of fundraising. This role leads on individual giving, while the other focuses on corporate giving relationships.

The Development Coordinator is a new role created to enable the Worthing Theatres & Museum Development team to raise crucial funds that will support the organisation in achieving its ambitious goals.

WTM has recently undergone a significant fundraising review and a new strategy is now in place. This strategy reflects the organisation’s need to increase fundraised income over the next 3 years (2024 - 2027) to meet its ambitious creative and capital plans to deliver on its mission to offer transformative creative experiences for the community of Worthing.

The postholder will work closely with the Head of Development and Development Manager to deliver the ambitious fundraising strategy for WTM. They will be responsible for raising funds of up to £10,000 per application from primarily Trusts and Foundations and some local corporate partners, and supporting the team with operational tasks including financial processes, events and communications.

Main Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

Fundraising and Relationship Management

● Manage relationships with Trust and Foundation funders giving up to £10,000 per year including ongoing donor stewardship, reporting writing, crediting etc.

● Secure new income by applying for grants and funding of up to £10,000 to support a range of WTM projects from Trust and Foundations and from local businesses including researching trusts and businesses, identifying suitable projects within the WTM portfolio to apply for, writing bids etc.

Development Operations and Support

● Lead on supporter crediting for the department ensuring that all supporters are acknowledged in relevant digital and print materials across the year.

● Act as day-to-day point of contact for the Development team’s use of the Spektrix database ensuring best practice.

● Work with the Finance team to monitor Development income on a monthly basis and report back to the Head of Development and Development Manager.

Independent Age, the national charity focused on improving the lives of older people facing financial hardship, is seeking a mission-driven fundraiser to provide strategic leadership and management of their Engagement Directorate.

Independent Age believes that no older person should face financial hardship. That’s why, by 2027, our goal is to have improved the lives of one million older people. The role of Director of Engagement will develop and execute the fundraising strategy, growing the charity’s philanthropic (trusts and foundations, corporates and major donors) and public fundraising activities, and develop effective partnerships.  The role will also grow multi-purpose partnerships, and lead on all aspects of marketing, developing and expanding the Independent Age brand proposition, targeting key audiences and beneficiaries. You will need to have significant experience of developing effective fundraising strategies with a proven track record of high-value fundraising, including individual giving and securing donations from major trusts, foundations, high-net-worth individuals and businesses. You will also have experience of identifying, winning and implementing impactful corporate partnerships beyond fundraising, as well as of leading and motivating brand and marketing, and partnerships and philanthropy teams. The main duties of the role

Working with the Chief Development Officer and Assistant Director of Development to oversee the charity’s fundraising operations, including:

• Leading the day-to-day active oversight and coordination of the charity’s fundraising operations (eg the management of prospect research and prioritisation, managing workflows, solicitation planning, ensuring effective stewardship of supporters, tracking and monitoring funding)

• Ensuring effective stewardship of supporters is maintained and developed across the team
• Tracking and monitoring of funding, working closely with the finance team and ensuring that accurate records are maintained
• Coordination of the Trustee and Development working group meetings on fundraising, and implementation of agreed actions
• Managing a portfolio of strategic funders including high-net-worth donors, university partners and family foundations
• Taking on a leadership role on targeted fundraising campaigns, in particular in conjunction with university partners for multiple centres
• Working with the data protection team to ensure fundraising activities meet data protection requirements
• Developing and maintaining a donor communications plan
• Coordination of fundraising requests to the Senior Management Team
• Senior oversight of events, encompassing both fundraising initiatives and maximisation of stakeholder engagement and fundraising

Our Consultancy Team has an excellent reputation in the social sector. The projects we deliver are diverse in their size and scale, but fall into three main categories:

· Mixed methods evaluation: supporting organisations to help them understand their impact and assess where value is created. We are also experienced in more developmental approaches to evaluation, helping organisations learn and adapt in real time.

· Social research: exploring social issues affecting people and communities in greater depth.

· Learning partnerships: supporting organisations with a more structural learning approach tailored to their context and culture. This can include long-term relationships over several years, as well as shorter more strategic advice.

Alongside or track record and expertise in place-based change and in large, complex programmes of change in places, we work across many policy and practice areas. We have particular expertise around youth social action and safety, systemic approaches, and using participatory, equity-driven approaches.

Our clients

Our clients are charities, local and regional government bodies and funders. Current and recent examples include The National Lottery Community Fund, BBC Children in Need, the Health Foundation, Youth Endowment Fund, Right to Succeed, and a range of local and regional government bodies including the London Mayor's Office and several London borough councils.

What to expect

You will work on a variety of projects and tasks, working with other consultants in our team to help a range of organisations with their research and evaluation needs. Your work will be varied and will depend on the needs of our clients; an opportunity to gain a flexible skillset in research and evaluation as well as build your knowledge of the non-profit sector and public sector.

This could look like:

• Training community researchers to explore the impact of a Social Housing Association’s community development project through the voice of residents.

• Visiting organisations across the UK to understand how they shared power with children and young people through youth social action funding.

• Working with government in London to understand how services for girls and young women at risk of exploitation or violence can coordinate better.

• Working with local coalitions up and down England who are pioneering new approaches to reducing homelessness, helping them learn and develop their work.

Junior Researcher and Researcher roles

A Junior Researcher position is for candidates who can demonstrate an enthusiasm for research but may be looking for an opportunity to build their experience and training. For example, you may have studied research methods but have less applied experience, or, you may have some applied experience, but you have never studied research methods.

A Researcher position is for candidates with at least 1-2 years of professional experience, especially in a research context. We welcome candidates who have worked in any sector, as long as you can demonstrate that you have relevant experience and alignment to our mission and values.

The purpose of the role is to plan and deliver strategically the fundraising required for the ongoing success of NCO, enabling this important national music organisation to develop and deliver its mission.

Main Responsibilities 

Strategy and Planning

Working with the Chief Executive and Development and Communications Committee to set and lead on the development of NCO’s development strategy, setting fundraising targets in line with strategic objectives.

Oversee all fundraising activity and report to the Chief Executive, NCO Board and Finance Committee on progress towards income targets.

As a member of the Senior Management Team, represent the Development function to ensure full account is taken of development potential whilst contributing towards the leadership and strategic direction of NCO.

Individual Giving

Lead on re-establishing NCO’s Individual Giving programme, drawing on the potential pipeline of current stakeholders (eg parents and alumni) and delegating to/working with the Development Team in its successful delivery.

Lead on new mid/major donor giving and relationships including legacies, personally managing a portfolio of prospects and donors.

Support the Development team to lead in the delivery of NCO’s annual giving programmes, ie Friends and Patrons.

Lead on individual campaigns, working collaboratively with the Development team to maximise opportunities to engage with new supporters through events and matched funding initiatives (eg The Big Give).

Work with the Chief Executive and other senior staff to ensure the continued engagement and support of the NCO Board.

Trusts and Foundations

Lead on fundraising from Trusts & Foundations and other grant giving bodies (excluding statutory funding).

Research and cultivate existing and new funders, working with the Chief Executive, Board and the Development Team to initiate new partnerships and maintaining systems to ensure that those partnerships are successfully managed and sustained.

Prepare compelling major grant applications to secure new funding with sound attention to detail, and work with colleagues by leading and advising on other vital grant applications undertaken by members of the Development team, sharing best practice in fundraising to develop the organisation’s skills.

As part of the Development team, provide appropriate and timely monitoring information to trusts and foundations, as required by their conditions of support including, where appropriate, organising events and visits.

Corporate Fundraising

Lead the Development team on stewarding existing and cultivating new corporate sponsors and ensuring benefits and recognition are delivered across NCO’s marketing channels.

Statutory Funding

Support the Chief Executive and wider team to ensure that NCO fulfils its quarterly and annual reporting requirements to Arts Council England and the Department for Education and in the creation of new funding applications including as part of the next ACE Investment Review.

(NB: The day to day management and reporting requirements of NCO’s NPO and DfE grants will be managed by a newly appointed Business Administrator and overseen by the Chief Executive).

Organisation and Management

Line manage NCO’s Development Manager through individual objective setting and performance management, regular 1:1 meetings and identification of training needs.

Empower the Development team by ensuring they have regular opportunities to develop their skills and experience across different areas of fundraising and through training whilst supporting them wholeheartedly in their professional development.

Inspire and lead the Development team, and set an example, on the application, implementation and adherence to all NCO policies and procedures.

Support the Development team to lead on the development of NCO’s CRM System (Beacon) in specific relation to its fundraising functions, in line with the Data Protection Act.

Maximise the potential of Gift Aid from all donations, supporting the Development team to ensure all donations and payments received are appropriately logged, accompanied by appropriate paperwork and in line with annual audit requirements and submitted in a timely manner.

Produce Development reports for quarterly Board and Finance Committee meetings, attending online and in person as required.

Undertake research and maintain a high level of knowledge about trusts, foundations, individuals, and statutory funding to inform planning.

Represent NCO at conferences undertaking public and media presentations, attending conferences and events and lobbying forums as appropriate
