The Role

Overall Purpose of the Head of Research

• To lead the delivery of the charity’s strategic research aims including managing and further developing Guts UK’s grants programme, managing our small research team, working with research partners and networks to raise awareness of our work and outcomes, further develop impact, and continue to develop and embed patient and public involvement (PPI) in our research.
• To drive new initiatives and develop and deliver tactical plans for the Research team which meet our strategic objectives.
• As a member of the charity’s senior leadership team, to contribute to the leadership, planning and delivery of strategic initiatives and the wider development of the charity.

Who we’re looking for?
As a small but growing national charity, we punch above our weight including our research programme where we invest directly and in partnership with other organisations. We are looking for an experienced healthcare research manager who is looking to take their next career step including a move to senior leadership role. With the support of our CEO, SLT, and the Board Research Strategy Committee, you will take ownership of this portfolio, further develop and successfully delivery research strategy, and develop our research investment and impact.

We currently have a small Research team, so while this role requires strategic thinking and leadership, similar to charities of our size you will need to be someone who relishes multi-tasking and isn’t afraid to roll their sleeves up to things done. 1. Vision and direction

• Articulate a clear vision for the organisation’s campaigning; lead the organisation and the team to implement this vision and help deliver an increase in the scale and impact of WaterAid’s global influence to accelerate progress towards SDG6;

2. Global Campaign Plans

• Lead the design and implementation of WaterAid’s priority global campaigns to maximise WaterAid’s influence on global and national political debates, working in partnership with senior leaders across the organisation.
• In partnership with the Global Policy and Advocacy Director, ensure WaterAid’s campaigns and advocacy are rooted in robust evidence and credible policy analysis;
• In partnership with WaterAid’s International Affairs Director, work to strategically influence and position the organisation’s key campaign agendas in international and multilateral fora.

5. Leadership and management

• As a member of the Department’s Senior Management Team, take shared responsibility for shaping both the department and WaterAid’s strategic global campaigns approach, championing a matrix style of working with teams and colleagues around the world;
• Work in partnership with the Global Director of Policy and the Global Director of International Affairs to maximise the synergies between the Policy, Campaigns and International Affairs teams, encourage a team culture of strategic collaboration and ways of working that foster the breaking down of silos; 
• Line manage the two Head of Campaigns; lead the team effectively, with a strong focus on individual performance management, team cohesion and integration within both the department and the wider organisation, in accordance with the core values of WaterAid;

About You:

• A proven track record of leading successful international campaigning and advocacy initiatives, including through influencing institutions and governments, mobilising constituencies and achieving ambitious political change;
• Proven experience of mobilising the public on SDG thematic areas.
• A keen political ‘savviness’ and an awareness of the potential for achieving political change primarily, with a demonstrated track record of both insider and outsider approaches and sophisticated understanding of when and how to apply them;
• A strategic and innovative thinker with the ability to deliver tangible results. Someone who embraces complexity and uncertainty;
• A creative force, with an understanding of how to turn a strategy into a campaign.
• Experience of leading, managing and motivating others and driving change;
• The ability and credibility to represent WaterAid at senior levels and to communicate with a range of audiences, including the media, conference audiences and the general public;
• Proven experience of networking and communicating with NGOs, government officials and politicians, working with partners in Africa and/or South and South-East Asia;
• Experience working in a developing country context;

This is an exciting opportunity for a Trust Fundraising Manager with proven experience, to maximise income for Whizz Kidz services from Trusts and Foundations through researching new funding opportunities, creating high quality applications with Service staff and stewarding existing warm funders effectively. 

The Role

As Trust Fundraising Manager you will secure new funding opportunities and work on a pool of warm and cold charitable Trusts with a focus on the £10,000 to £40,000 range.  The role involves researching and qualifying prospects, submitting high quality funding applications and stewarding existing donors effectively. It will also involve managing reporting deadlines and matching potential donors to projects needing to be fundraised for, collaborating with our Service Teams. 

You will prepare applications and reports to trusts and foundations, in line with funder deadlines, keeping in touch with donors and prospects via phone, virtually and face to face. You will match potential donors with projects, collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach.

The person

You will have experience of: Securing funding from Trusts with excellent writing and presentation skills; Solid prospect research skills to identify new funding opportunities and maintain a forward pipeline of applications; Of working collaboratively with Service Teams to package and cost project areas; Stewardship of warm funders including preparing donor reports, reviewing financial reports and gathering case studies. You will also have strong time management skills with ability to manage and prioritise your workload and ideally experience of using a CRM for Trust Fundraising.

The Role

Future Advocacy is seeking a Senior Consultant in Advocacy, Campaigns, Communications and Research. This is a great opportunity to be thrown in at the deep end in a small, dynamic organisation that places a strong focus on team and personal development. The successful candidate will be a versatile and talented professional, eager to lead and contribute to meaningful advocacy initiatives with our brilliant clients. They will work closely with the CEO and other senior leaders, becoming an integral part of our energetic and dedicated team.

Responsibilities will include:

• Leading and contributing to client projects
• Designing UK and global advocacy strategies
• Developing and executing UK and global government relations strategies
• Developing and delivering creative campaigns
• Crafting and implementing communications strategies
• Conducting research on key issues related to consultancy projects
• Policy development and writing
• Contributing to business development, including writing proposals and budgets for new projects
• Contributing to modelling and strengthening our culture
• Undertaking additional tasks as needed

We would love to hear from you if you meet the criteria below:

• At least 5 - 10 years of proven success in at least two of the following:
  1. Designing and executing impactful government relations strategies
  2. Designing and executing creative campaigns 
  3. Designing and executing communication and media strategies
  4. Designing and delivering research and policy development projects
• Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills in English at a native level or equivalent
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to manage competing priorities 
• Strong capability to represent the organisation to high-level individuals and clients
• Precision in delivering high quality work in a fast-paced yet supportive environment
• Experience in effectively managing projects

War on Want campaigns in the UK to challenge human rights abusing corporations and governments, and hold those responsible for inequality and poverty to account. They publish in-depth research exposing injustice and human rights abuse globally. They work in partnership with grassroots groups, trade unions and workers’ organisations in the Global South. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about political activism, ready for a brilliant next step in fundraising.

Working closely with the Director of Income & Engagement, your strategies and campaigns will deepen the relationship between War on Want and its individual supporters to both increase participation in their campaigns and grow unrestricted income.

The campaigns you run will acquire, retain, and develop individual supporters using a range of channels both on and offline. The ultimate aim of these activities is to increase the number of active War on Want members who support their work through regular direct debit donations. In addition, you will lead War on Want’s legacy programme and manage the Income & Engagement Assistant to ensure the delivery of first-class supporter care processes and an unbeatable supporter experience.

As individual giving lead, you will join the team at a very exciting time. They have recently launched a new supporter mobilisation strategy to bring transformative growth to our supporter base. This role would be well suited to someone who has worked across a range of channels: tele-marketing, direct mail and digital. You will have a passion for political change and activism!

The starting salary is £46,636 and the role is hybrid working, with one day a month at War on Want’s head office. More in-person days are required on an ad-hoc basis.

As Director of Services and Grants, you will be responsible for ensuring that our multi-channel services and grants programme serve and improve the lives of older people, reach those who are most likely to be in poverty, and have the maximum impact.  You will help us grow our capacity, build our network of charity and commercial partnerships, develop our external training offer, and reach more people including those groups most likely to experience financial hardship. 

Having operated at a senior level, ideally as part of a Senior Leadership Team, you will be an inspiring leader with a demonstrable passion for our cause.  Experienced in successfully managing service transformation and development, including in a contact centre environment, you will also have an understanding of grants programmes, and of building strategic partnerships and national networks.  With an understanding of demonstrating and reporting on impact, experience of supporting fundraising for services and bidding for contracts, you will ideally also have knowledge of developing an external training offer.

About Woman's Trust

The charity, established almost thirty years ago to meet the gap in specialist mental health services, is led by and for women and aims to ensure that women affected by domestic abuse can live a life free from further harm and abuse. Our approach is trauma-informed and person-centred, empowering survivors on their journey to recovery from the trauma. We support 900 women and children annually, with an income of £1.04m and 41 staff in 2023/24. We are committed to a positive, inclusive and equitable environment for our staff, service users and volunteers.

You will be joining the Woman’s Trust Fundraising team as we work towards our strategy 2022-2027, to double our income and the number of women we support each year. We are focused on developing innovative mental health services for young women and girls, launching peer-led support groups and providing therapeutic groups to children and their mothers. We are also committed to developing further awareness-raising workshops and training for professionals, building on our research and policy to improve systems nationally.

About you and how to apply

As a creative and tenacious senior fundraiser, aligned to our feminist ethos and our service users', you will have experience in securing six-figure, multiple-year grants, with the proven ability to effectively communicate services, and to develop funder and wider sector relationships aligned to our strategic priorities.
