About Shooting Star Children’s Hospices

We have an exciting opportunity for a family support to join our Family Support Team at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices provides specialist care and support to families who have a baby, child or young person with a life-limiting condition, or whose child has died. Rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, we support families across Surrey, north-west London and south-west London from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.

About the role

Family Support Workers (FSW) are the frontline of our psychosocial care. Each FSW holds a caseload of end-of-life and bereaved families. They get to know their families, and check-in regularly with phone calls and home visits and can provide enhanced emotional support where required through more regular contact and interventions. Our FSWs inform families about the different psychosocial care and many services they can access at Shooting Star, assess their needs and make recommendations to our specialist psychosocial MDT. They work hard to support families of different ethnicities and families living in poverty, so that our service is as equitable as possible.

Our FSWs work closely with our Therapists, Counsellors, Social Workers, Transition Team and our Care Events Team. Weekly specialist psychosocial MDT meetings bring the team together to think of ways to help families in crisis. The work is varied and creative, taking place at the hospices, in family homes and hospitals, allowing the support to be where the families need it. Our Family Support Workers are hugely appreciated by the families we support.

The ambition of our strategy is to ensure every family affected by a life-limiting condition, or the sudden death of a child, has access to the specialist care that they need. Day to day duties are:

• Being part of the duty rota over both sites monitoring 3 email inboxes and answering the Family Support Line.
• Supporting the events team with admin tasks and attending various events
• Providing on the spot emotional support, sometimes in a crisis where a calm and empathic response is required.
• Support the in-house team with families staying at Christopher’s for assessed nights and end of life care.
• Attend various sites over the course of a week, hospice, hospital, family homes. Planning your own diary effectively.
• Building connections with families from different backgrounds, delivering culturally competent care.
• Acting as an ambassador for Shooting Star’s Specialist Bereavement Service, supporting other care team members with their learning and delivery of the bereavement pathway, and continually seeking ways to improve quality.

About you

This role requires experience of working with children and families who have experienced hardship, presenting with complex needs. You should have a calm positive manner, be consistent in your approach, and convey empathy whilst maintaining professional boundaries.

This is a crucial role to support NASP’s strategic objectives to promote and spread social prescribing at a local, national, and international level.

• Work with voluntary sector organisations and people with the greatest health and care needs to develop National Voices’ communications positions and deliver against funded project work

The role will be a mix of communications and internal events work, with 75% of the role focused on communications.

Responsibilities

Deliver on our communications work

· Develop engaging content that conveys National Voices messages to members, external stakeholders, and media (including managing the day to day running of social media platforms) to maximise the reach and impact of the organisation’s policy messages and funded project work

· Support the Policy and Communications Manager with media relations activity by drafting media statements, liaising with journalists and other media activity as required

· Create National Voices’ membership content, including member newsletters and member blogs

· Oversee and manage process of external design of National Voices reports with designer

· Manage the comms and events calendar and work with internal and external team to schedule project releases and other events

· Support the maintenance of National Voices’ website, keeping the site up to date and coordinating input and content from National Voices staff and members.

· Coordinate the production of key publications, from liaising with partner organisations to overseeing design and production

· Communications administrative tasks including developing and maintaining press list, tracking press coverage and social media analytics data

· Support operation team’s internal comms around job postings, organisational policy changes, and office announcement.

Support the operations team internal events programme

· Work across the organisation to support our internal events programme including leading on some events. This includes support on logistics like venue booking, arranging catering and providing technical support.  

· Support the creation and development of materials for events and presentations.

· Support in the organisation of our Annual General Meeting and board events where needed.

· Work with the team to lead on staff social events.

· Provide ad hoc support to the operations team as required.

Our approach to hybrid working

We recognise the importance of coming together regularly, in-person, as a team, so we can share learnings and spend social time with each other. We also recognise that people need flexibility, and that homeworking enables focused work and can fit well in people’s lives.

We ask all staff to take part in pre-arranged team meetings which take place every six weeks in our office space. We also might ask you to meet in-person with members of your team from time to time, or to be available for face-to-face meetings with clients and partners where this enhances the work.

Main purpose of role:

The primary purpose of this role is to develop and deliver innovative direct marketing campaigns that drive donor engagement across our regular giving and cash programmes. As an Individual Giving Officer, you will play a crucial role in shaping our fundraising program. Main duties and responsibilities:

• Project manage multiple direct marketing campaigns delivering accurate campaigns on time, on budget and to a high standard.

• Work across the organisation to gather engaging content for our direct marketing activities. Write and review copy for collateral used for engagement, conversion and acquisition activities.

• Completing relevant campaign management documents including post-activity analysis reports, identifying learnings and recommendations for future campaigns, and writing internal and external briefs.

• Support the Head of Individual Giving with forecasting and reporting across financial and non-financial KPIs in relation to the Individual Giving programme.

• Ensure excellent communication and liaison between the St Martin’s Charity’s Fundraising team, marketing agencies, suppliers and key stakeholders.

• Work with the CRM Manager to ensure that all campaign data is utilised and captured efficiently, effectively and accurately.

• Work with the Senior Digital Marketing Manager to ensure the Charity optimises digital fundraising opportunities in relation to individual giving.

• Acting as a day-to-day contact with external agencies ensuring high quality delivery of campaigns on time and on budget.

• Maintain a close working relationship with the Supporter Care Officer so that they are aware of all activity and able to respond to enquiries and complaints

• Keep abreast of key individual giving fundraising trends and issues and the regulatory environment.
