It is an exciting time to join King’s College Hospital Charity and the Fundraising and Communications Team to support our innovative and ambitious fundraising targets. We recently had our biggest ever team at the 2024 London Landmarks Half Marathon, with 96 runners representing Team King’s and over £85,000 raised for our hospitals. The Great Hospital Hike, our flagship fundraising event, also raised over £160,000 for our hospitals, with our supporters walking the 18-mile route from King’s College Hospital in Denmark Hill to the Princess Royal University Hospital in Bromley.
The Supporter Services Assistant is often the first point of contact at the charity for supporters - handling enquiries, processing income, sending out donation thank you letters and supporter materials and mass postal mailings, where required. You will combine excellent supporter care and customer service with administrative efficiency and attention to detail to ensure that the supporter experience is smooth and positive from start to finish. You'll be skilled at listening and responding to queries appropriately, both over the telephone, via email and letter.
You will use the Access Charity Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database to make sure all supporter information is recorded consistently, kept up to date and maintained in accordance with database management procedures. You will work closely with the Database Manager and Senior Fundraising Operations Officer to highlight opportunities for improvements to processes and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- To give supporters a positive, consistent experience in all their interactions with the Charity, especially in response to enquiries, income handling and donor thanking.
- To ensure that income is recorded accurately and promptly on the CRM database to enable the Finance team to reconcile and correctly allocate income, and the Fundraising team to have financial oversight of their fundraising activities.
- To ensure that supporter records on the CRM database are kept up to date, adding enquiry responses, donation correspondence and amending records where requested by either the supporter, members of the Fundraising & Communications team or wider charity colleagues.

An opportunity to provide practical, emotional, and financial support for anyone affected by chronic kidney disease. You will engage with kidney patients, their families, and carers as a source of information, support, and advocacy, in order to improve care and wellbeing outcomes for patients.

The role will cover the main renal units and satellite dialysis units across your designated area in Liverpool and Wirral. Frequent travel and attendance is expected at some sites.
Responsibilities
• With support, establish the Kidney Care UK Patient Support & Advocacy Service in the region so patients, their families, carers and professionals to access independent support on social, financial, health advocacy and wellbeing
• Be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the Patient Support & Advocacy Service across the region and the effective management of a caseload. This involves regular attendance at renal clinics in the region, building relationships with health and care professionals and being available for patients in the renal unit, on the phone or online, or to meet at a mutually convenient public location
• To support patients to build the skills and confidence needed to positively navigate the challenges presented by health, social care, benefits, and financial support pathways, and to overcome barriers and promote independence
• To support patients to connect with services to ensure that they are engaged in shared decision making and that their voice is central to shaping the care and support they receive

About the role

British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) is a membership organisation that brings together expertise from across the rheumatology profession, harnessing a wide variety of experience and skills to ensure we’re supporting our members to the very best of our combined ability. Our mission is to support members to deliver the best care at all stages of the rheumatology care pathway, focusing on communication, transparency and collaboration.
Rheumatology Advances in Practice (RAP) is a fully Open Access journal that publishes quantitative and qualitative research on all areas of rheumatology and musculoskeletal practice. The Editor-in-Chief plays a key role in providing leadership, vision and strategy.
Job Purpose
The Editor-in-Chief will be appointed by BSR and the term of appointment will be for a five-year period. The Editor-in-Chief plays a key role in providing leadership, vision and strategy of the journal.
The Editor-in-Chief for Rheumatology Advances in Practice (RAP) will work with BSR to develop and produce a high-quality journal as well as establish its strategic direction. They will be involved in keeping the BSR Board of Trustees and RAP Editorial Board as well as leading the social media presence of the journal.
The Editor-in-Chief will have a general responsibility to the broader rheumatology, paediatric, primary care and allied health community in communicating clinical and scientific advances and standards, to promote their needs and aspirations by commissioning content and planning Special Issues that will enhance the field of research, care and support for these communities.
The Editor-in-Chief will work with the Society and Publisher to ensure that it continues to meet its objectives and set strategic goals for the journal.
The general strategic aims and objectives of the journal are:
- Ensure robust ethical standards and high-quality peer review
- Grow quality and number of submissions and publications yearly
- Ensure international recognition and reach of this journal by publishing high quality scientific and clinical research from across the world, and maintaining an engaged international Editorial Board
The journal is an open access, go to resource for the rheumatology community, with a scope that encompasses the wide range of disciplines involved in the field. We recently received an impressive first impact factor of 3.1 and we are excited to continue to grow the presence of the journal internationally. As the journal is fully online and open access, we have exciting opportunities to provide a multitude of publishing services for our authors, in line with the industry standards and experimenting with new ways of publishing. We listen to the voice of the authors, readers, reviewers and board members to understand their publishing needs and are excited to trial new projects. For example, we recently launched a new article type called an ‘Atlas Review’ with a unique offer of unlimited figures, allowing authors to illustrate their important discussions and not limiting the capabilities via text exclusively.
Quality and ethical standards
The Editor-in-Chief will ensure an appropriate balance of good quality articles, so the journal addresses the needs of the multidisciplinary rheumatology community. The Editor-in-Chief will see that the journal maintains the highest ethical and moral standards. The journal must be seen to be fair and unbiased towards individuals and provides a comprehensive and balanced view of the specialty. The journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and committed to the highest ethical standards in journal publishing.
Conference attendance
The BSR, EULAR and ACR conferences provide an excellent opportunity to network with current and prospective authors, reviewers and Editorial Board members, as well as to commission new content for the journal and to provide social media updates. Conferences can also be used to arrange podcast and video interviews with authors, Board Members and colleagues. Delegate tickets to EULAR, the BSR Annual Conference and ACR will be covered by the British Society for Rheumatology and travel and hotel expenses will be covered as outlined in the budget.
Editorial support to the Editor-in-Chief
The Editor-in-Chief will receive day-to-day support for processing papers and managing peer review from the BSR in-house Editorial Office team, as well as support from contacts at Oxford University Press. Co-Editors, Associate Editors and wider Editorial Board also provide support and guidance to the Editor-in-Chief.
The relationship with the British Society for Rheumatology
The day-to-day contact with the BSR will be through the Editorial Office; however, the Editor-in-Chief will have several relationships as follows:
- BSR Journal Committee
The BSR Journal Committee will review and supply any feedback about overall advice given by the Editorial Board on the content, quality, standards, promotion, and performance of the journal to the Editor-in-Chief. The Journal committee is responsible for overseeing and approving the finances, scope and policies of Rheumatology Advances in Practice. The committee ensure actions decided upon further the work of the Journal and its development within the Journal’s aims and scope.
- BSR Board of Trustees, CEO and Senior Management Team
Advised by the BSR Senior Management Team, the BSR Board of Trustees approve the finances and strategy of the journal. Members of the BSR Senior Management Team attend the Journal Committee meetings. The Editor-in-Chief is asked to attend the BSR Board of Trustees on an ad hoc basis to provide an update on strategy and delivery.
- Rheumatology Editor-in-Chief
There is a transfer of papers model in place, so the Editor-in-Chief will have opportunity to collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief of Rheumatology to ensure the right papers are directed to the right journals by understanding the scope nd criteria of each journal. The journals share a X and instagram pages and marketing and promotional campaigns can be co-ordinated.
- Oxford University Press
OUP publish the journal on behalf of the BSR. OUP provides a full publishing experience with expert teams who advise and support on matters related to production, marketing and law, publishing ethics and strategy. The publisher, BSR and the EiC work closely to ensure the journal strategy is bespoke in order for Rheumatology Advances in Practice to maintain the current community, build the readership and authorship, and align with the visions and values of BSR. The Editor-in-Chief will meet OUP contacts at the Journal Committee Meeting and strategy planning meetings, as the publisher highly values the knowledge and experience of the Editor-in-Chief. Day to day communication will be via the Editorial Office to ensure smooth running of journal procedures.
Main responsibilities
- Work towards and guide the 5-year strategy for the journal
- Set strategic goals with BSR and the publisher to apply for further indexing, and maintain or grow the Impact Factor
- Work with BSR, the publisher and Editorial Board to target and commission reviews, original articles and special issues, and curate a sponsored supplement timeline
- Ensure that the journal’s scope is international and is reflected in its content
- Ensure the journal is produced to a high standard, and that it reflects the needs of the full spectrum of the rheumatology professional community
- Ensure rapid peer review with time to first decision within three weeks
- Ensure the Editorial Board reflects not only the various subspecialties within rheumatology but also includes a global spread
- Ensure that the journal is promoted online using a range of media to promote and raise awareness of the journal
- Participating in the digital offerings of the journal, such as hosting podcasts
Person Specification
- A PhD degree/ Doctor of Medicine, specialised in rheumatology, with a clinical science background and a strong understanding of recent trends and developments
- Demonstrable experience in an editorial role including, reviewer, editorial board member, associate editor or guest editor
- Adaptability to new publishing systems and software. Experience with the system, ScholarOne, would be beneficial to the role but is not a requirement as training can be provided

The role
Global Greengrants Fund UK is looking to hire an energetic and passionate individual who will play a key role in establishing and developing Global Greengrants Fund UK’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) work. The new role of MEAL Officer will undertake high-quality data management and analysis to produce key learnings on the outcomes of GGF’s grantmaking and other programmatic activity, as well as leading system improvements to our evolving monitoring, evaluation and learning framework in collaboration with global colleagues. They will be providing support to the emerging global learning function, and the role will support the delivery of learning activities across our network to develop clear briefs, learnings and findings that can be used by other functions, including the Communications and Philanthropic Partnerships teams, to strengthen the organisation’s external and internal engagement and knowledge sharing activities. This will include developing appropriate methodologies and tools to collate, validate, summarise, analyse and report on key trends within our grantmaking using and improving on a range of data sources including grantee application forms and reports. Working as part of the UK Programme Support function and reporting to the Deputy Executive Director, the post holder will also collaborate closely with colleagues across the global organisation Global Greengrants Fund, particularly within the Programmes, Communications, and Learning teams towards realising organisational aims.
The candidate profile
The successful applicant will have significant relevant experience in a similar role in a charitable, environmental, development, and/or grant-making organisation. They will be an experienced, senior-level specialist with a strong track record in data collection, monitoring and analysis, with good working knowledge of a range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, tools and systems, and in using this information to evaluate and recommend adaptations, and in reporting. Higher-level qualifications/certification in a relevant field, post-graduate qualification would be a distinct advantage, particularly in the social sciences and/or use of mixed method approaches. They will have demonstrated experience authoring MEAL related reports, either organisational reports or academic publications; demonstrated ability to coordinate and improve the process of data collection, analysis and reporting and demonstrated experience in managing datasets, databases, programming, and other analysis software. They will have excellent written and verbal communication skills; and be confident in engaging a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including at senior levels. They have exceptional organisational and research abilities, with strong attention to detail and accuracy, including analysing large amounts of information from disparate sources. They should have excellent interpersonal understanding, relationship building, and interpersonal skills to build strong alliances with diverse constituencies. They also thrive in a virtual environment and are motivated to take on challenges and collaboratively find innovative and creative solutions.

Global Partners Digital is recruiting for two Lead positions within its policy and advocacy teams (functions). This is an exciting opportunity for experienced individuals to be at the forefront of GPD’s work to shape digital tech governance processes and policies so that they are inclusive and rights-respecting.
Position 1 will have a policy focus across GPD’s thematic areas (Trust and Security, Platform and Content Governance, New and Emerging Tech, and Internet Governance) and will involve research, advocacy, engagement on these issues in key digital tech governance processes, including UN processes.
Position 2 will have an Internet governance focus with specific expertise on technical standards and protocols and will involve advocacy and engagement in technical standard setting bodies including the International Telecommunications Union (ITU); Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), as well as other Internet governance relevant forums.
Both positions will require relevant subject expertise, as well as knowledge of the digital policy ecosystem, and experience doing advocacy and/or engaging relevant stakeholders networks. An opportunity to provide practical, emotional, and financial support for anyone affected by chronic kidney disease. You will engage with kidney patients, their families, and carers as a source of information, support, and advocacy, in order to improve care and wellbeing outcomes for patients.

This is a very exciting time to join our expanding Visiting Caseworker Service. We are seeking two new colleagues, who will join our current team of two caseworkers covering the UK and Ireland. These newly created positions will be regionally based, one covering South West England & South Wales, and the other North West England & North Wales (with other travel across the UK on occasion).
Visiting Caseworkers each deal with an approximate caseload of 70-100 cases / visits per year. Central to the role will be supporting and advocating on behalf of vulnerable applicants, or those who are living in particularly complex or challenging situations. The job will be wide-ranging and include elements of advocacy, support, income maximisation, mediation, partnership working and processing our own grants where appropriate, with the overall aim to reach long-term sustainable solutions for Anglican clergy households.
Working closely with the Visiting Caseworker Manager and the wider Charitable Services team, key responsibilities will include:
Receive referrals from applicants via the Grants & Services team, for potential casework and home visits
- Assess and prioritise urgent cases on a weekly basis.
Conduct home visit (or online meeting)
- Provide thorough assessment of current situation, taking into consideration time available and wellbeing of the applicant.
- Conduct general income maximisation check (welfare benefits, grants check etc), where necessary.
- Identify, discuss and escalate (to Designated Safeguarding Officer) any safeguarding concerns within the household.
- Gather information in order to create individualised action plans with the primary contact and other household members.
• Assess and prioritise urgent actions during the meeting.
Develop an action plan
- Complete a written summary of the meeting and draft an action plan for possible areas of help and support with allocated responsibilities and agreed timelines.
- Prioritise urgent actions and agree responsibility for each action with applicant.
- Liaise with other agencies (e.g., DWP, Social Services, NHS, other charities, voluntary organisations, occupational benevolent funds, Dioceses, CofE Pensions Board etc.) where necessary.
- Refer to our own partnership support services if appropriate for help and support.
- Research and identify any local organisations for longer-term support.
- Consider and recommend most appropriate grant support through our own internal grants programme.
- Advocate on behalf of the applicant (e.g., complete internal and external applications, liaise with other external agencies, members of the Church where necessary).
- Act as third party for complaints, mediation or appeal hearings with applicants, either in person, online, or helping prepare a written submission.
- Keep accurate and objective notes and communications within our CRM system and ensure this is kept up to date on a daily basis.
Follow-up
- Manage and update action plans, while keeping in contact with applicant on a regular basis.
- Encourage and empower applicants to complete their actions and know when to step in, as and when necessary.
- Only in exceptional circumstances, consider a further home visit, if deemed appropriate
Other reasonable duties and projects commensurate with the post
- Support and work closely with other VC colleagues sharing areas of expertise.
- In particularly busy times, act as an overflow for grant applications, to support colleagues in the Charitable Services Team.
