We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive press officer to help raise the profile of World Horse Welfare and promote our charity to external audiences.  This role would suit a person with experience as a reporter on a news desk or in media relations who is looking for a PR role within the charity sector.

You will support the Head of Communications in managing the charity’s news flow and media relations, achieving accurate and favourable mentions across specialist, regional, national and international media.

 You will be required to proactively seek opportunities to raise the Charity’s profile and publicise the work and messages of World Horse Welfare.

We are looking for a User Research Officer to join our Continuous Improvement Team in England.  This is a 12 month contract opportunity.

We are a friendly, collaborative team that works with funding teams across England, and colleagues from the wider organisation, to support continuous improvement.

We work with people to identify and deliver improvements to our funding programmes, systems, processes, knowledge and skills. We are passionate about continuously learning and improving to maximise our impact for communities across England.

Key responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, and working closely alongside colleagues across Major Gifts, Trusts and Corporates, this is a pivotal new role. It aligns with MSF’s strategic fundraising ambitions and will be crucial to securing increased income from new sources.

The Programme Officer (Research) will play an integral role in the Impact team within the broader Directorate of Impact and External Affairs. This is a pivotal time for Fight for Sight as we begin to implement our Impact Framework enabling us to communicate the impact of our extensive portfolio of current and past funded research projects to our internal and external audiences.

The role is diverse and varied, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to build their exposure to a complement of research management activities. Job Description

DMI is looking to recruit a Research Officer/Manager, whereby candidates from any location where DMI has a permanent presence (London, Antananarivo, Kampala, Lilongwe, Lusaka, Maputo, Mwanza, and Ouagadougou) are invited to apply. The salary and title of this role is dependent experience, and DMI will consider outstanding Masters graduates through to post-doctoral level researchers. To succeed, you will need to demonstrate significant research experience and a highly proficient report writing abilities.

More specifically, the Research Officer/Manager role will include the following responsibilities: 

1. Designing and managing effective and scientifically robust evaluations (both quantitative and qualitative) for DMI projects.

2. Overseeing, advising, and supporting research teams in DMI’s national offices to conduct routine research activities (for example, focus groups to understand barriers to behaviour change) and other project specific research tasks.

3. Commissioning and managing external agencies (usually based in the country that we are working) to carry out surveys. This includes the competitive selection of an agency, often using a tendering process, liaising with the selected agency and ensuring that their work is of the highest scientific standards.

4. Contributing to writing and publishing reports based on data gathered and methodologies used during DMI projects. This will include articles for peer-reviewed academic journals and wider scientific publications.

5. Providing technical support to project design during the proposal phase, particularly in relation to the design of monitoring and evaluation elements.

6. Keeping abreast of the latest research evidence, theories, and concepts relevant to DMI’s campaign topics, and communicating trends and new ideas across the organisation.

7. Effectively communicating with, providing technical research support, and building the research capacity of colleagues (those with and without a research background) and sub-contractors in the areas of research methods, monitoring, process evaluation, and impact evaluation, analysis, and interpretation.

Person specification 

Required knowledge, skills and experience  

1. Very strong intellectual ability, as evidenced by a research-focused postgraduate qualification and significant research experience in epidemiology, public health, health economics, social sciences, statistics, biomedical sciences, or an equivalent field.  The salary range is broad to reflect that we will consider outstanding Masters graduates through to post-doctoral level researchers. 

2. Excellent writing skills (in English), likely proven both by a publication record, and by an ability to communicate complex technical ideas to non-specialist audiences, both internally and externally.

3. Practical experience with, and good working knowledge of, statistical analysis software programmes, such as Stata, SPSS, R, or SAS, and strong general IT skills including questionnaire design, database development, and working with complex spreadsheets.

4. An inquisitive and open-minded approach, evidenced by knowledge and understanding of a broad range of research topics and a willingness to learn about new themes, approaches, and techniques when required.

5. Self-motivated with a high capacity for work, shown by the ability to cope with multiple concurrent professional priorities and tight deadlines. This will require strong organisational and time management skills but also the flexibility to understand the pressures, uncertainties, and difficulties of working in an international development context.

6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Willingness and ability to take the initiative not only in identifying problems but also in suggesting and implementing solutions.

7. The ability to understand different cultural contexts, especially those in sub-Saharan Africa.

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience  

1. Language ability in French, Portuguese, or Swahili. Fluency in other languages spoken in DMI’s countries of operation is also desirable.

2. Practical experience of designing, monitoring, and evaluating programmes, preferably with some research experience in developing countries, and meeting the monitoring and evaluation requirements of global funders. Experience of data collection using PDAs/mobile phones/tablets would be useful.

3. Experience of working with geographically displaced colleagues (ideally in different countries).

The Sentencing Academy is a charitable incorporated organisation created in 2019 to promote more effective sentencing practices and to further professional and public understanding of sentencing across England and Wales. Our mission is to inform decision making and improve awareness and understanding of sentencing through evidence led research, working in collaboration with experts in the field.

We are looking for a Research and Policy Officer on an initial one year fixed-term contract. The primary responsibility for this role will be to create content for our forthcoming Sentencing Hub, which will draw together an array of resources on sentencing in England and Wales, including research summaries and data trends. The Sentencing Hub is currently in the early stages of development and will become a key research and statistical resource for those seeking the latest evidence on the effectiveness of the sentencing process. It will be of interest to sentencers, the Judicial College, the Sentencing Council, those involved in the policymaking process, Members of Parliament, journalists, and other stakeholders. We anticipate that the Hub will become the Sentencing Academy’s primary research and dissemination vehicle.

This role is a mostly remote working one but with regular meetings in London (approximately four times a month). Attendance at other locations may sometimes be required. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week) but with flexibility to work reduced hours of no less than 0.8 FTE (30 hours per week). Occasional work outside of normal working hours may be required.

SafeDeposits is Scotland’s leading tenancy deposit protection scheme and dispute resolution provider. As a not-for-profit, SafeDeposits donates surpluses generated to its charity, the SafeDeposits Scotland Charitable Trust (“the Trust”). The Trust aims to improve standards in Scotland’s private rented sector by promoting education, training and best practice.

In addition to its grant-giving, the Trust is developing an ambitious research programme designed to inform future policy making and debate. This includes two new national representative surveys: “The Voice of the Tenant (Scotland)” and “The Voice of the Landlord (Scotland)”.

We have a new opportunity within our Policy, Research and Strategy team to join them as a Research and Programme Officer.

This is a full-time, permanent position ideally based within commuting distance of our Glasgow office. However, we are open to considering home-based candidates from other areas of Scotland, depending on their skills and experience.

The purpose of this role is to deliver and support the expansion of SafeDeposits research programme. StepChange Debt Charity is seeking a Research and Insight Officer to join our External Affairs team. You’ll play a critical role in supporting the development and delivery of research projects, helping us build a deeper understanding of problem debt in the UK.

What you’ll do:

In this role, you will be at the heart of our research efforts analysing and interpreting primary and secondary quantitative and qualitative data. You’ll manage and deliver key research publications, such as our annual Statistics Yearbook, and oversee our regular monthly reports. From conducting client surveys to producing high quality insights, you’ll ensure that our work is backed by strong evidence and communicates our vision effectively.

You will also engage with external stakeholders to collaborate on joint research initiatives and represent the charity at external events and meetings. Internally, you’ll work closely with colleagues to maximise the use of client data and support the integration of insights into our broader policy and influencing work.

About You:

To excel in this role, you’ll need a strong understanding of research methodologies, with demonstrable experience in using both qualitative and quantitative research techniques. You will play a crucial role in supporting the smooth and effective operation of the Medical Research Foundation’s Board and committees. Working closely with senior leaders and Board members you will ensure that the governance processes run seamlessly and efficiently.

In this role, you will contribute to the delivery of a first-class governance service to the Board of Trustees and its supporting committees, ensuring the smooth and effective operation of the Medical Research Foundation’s governance processes. This includes coordinating Board and committee meetings, preparing agendas and documentation.

You will be adept at diary management and have the ability to manage multiple priorities.

You will have experience of:

• providing diary management support
• committee secretarial duties
• providing customer service

You will be able to:

• communicate confidently in writing and verbally with colleagues and senior stakeholders

Salary and working arrangements

The salary for this position is £30,000.00 - £34,000.00 (pro-rata for part time hours). Ideally this will be a part time post at 21.6 hours per week however we are open and flexible to a full time working arrangement.

We value spending time working in-person to develop strong connections with each other and with our mission, so you will be based at our central London office for a minimum of two days a week (for part time employees) and a minimum of three days per week (for full time employees) with the option to work remotely for the remainder of the week.

Migration Policy Scotland (MPS) is an independent policy organisation working to improve the prospects for a more just migration system in Scotland and across the UK. We offer principled, effective solutions to confront the challenges and harness the benefits and opportunities migration brings. Our work combines learned and lived experience grounded in the realities of migration in Scotland.

MPS is pioneering an approach that integrates migrant lived experience into research-driven policy influencing. We have recently been awarded funding by The National Lottery Community Action Fund enabling us to continue and grow this area of activity. This will involve supporting the continued work of our Migrant Lived Experience Panel, the establishment of a Capacity Building and Leadership Development Programme for migrants and migrant community organisations, and the further development of our migrant community of practice. 

We are seeking a part-time participation officer (0.3 FTE) to support our senior staff to deliver this important and ambitious work. 

Potential candidates for this role are likely to have a background in community engagement and/or volunteer support and familiarity with social research methods. Preferably some of this experience will be in the migration sector. You may be seeking to combine this role with other third sector activities or be enrolled on an ongoing postgraduate degree programme. The participation officer will

• Provide ongoing engagement with and support to our Migrant Lived Experience Panel members.

• Organise and support the smooth running of an on-going programme of training and project development events.

• Facilitate the co-development of projects through supporting inclusive communication and proactive engagement with prospective partners and participants, including through co-development workshops. 

• Contribute to the drafting of project proposals and funding applications.

• Conduct desk-based research mapping migrant community-based organisations and activities across Scotland

• Support the development of a training offer to build capacity and leadership among migrants and migrant community organisations in Scotland. Review and summarise currently available training and assist in the development of a bespoke curriculum.

• Design and assist in recording and analysing feedback and evaluation from training programme participants.

• Support the work of the Director and Associate Director in all aspects of the project, working as part of a small, busy team.

Bowel Research UK is looking for an interim Research and Grants Manager to coordinate and evaluate the management of the charity’s research activities. This role covers all aspects of pre- and post-award research management, impact reporting, grant finance management and governance, co-ordination of the Charity’s scientific committees and shaping external scientific communications to supporters and other stakeholders. Additionally, you will foster and maintain strong relationships with researchers, serving as the primary point of contact for engaging with the research community. 

The charity has approximately 50 active research grants to the value of in the region of £1.5 million. The Interim Research & Grants Manager will be responsible for managing these. 

Bowel Research UK are bringing this role in as an interim position rather than permanent, to support the day-to-day duties whilst this post holder also supports with reviewing the research and grants functionality within the organization, and help senior leadership decide on future requirements. You will act as an internal consultant, using your career experience to critically assess and analyze the charity requirements and provide guidance and direction.  

This role would suit someone looking for a fresh and exciting challenge, who would be energized by both providing internal consultancy and managing the day-to-day.

Bowel Research UK are a flexible employer, for this post they are looking for someone to be comfortable with joining the team in the London office once a month. If the post holder would prefer to work more regularly from an office base the charity has office space at Royal College of Surgeons in central London. Most team members work from here on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 

The 21-hour week can be worked in the way that best suits the post holder, e.g. 3 full days or spread over 5 days.
