The Science Communications Manager leads an expert team that inspires and informs the public, donors and researchers about dementia research, the progress being made, wider developments in the field and the impact of Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) funding.

The postholder plays a vital role in helping tell the story and scientific narrative of ARUK to a variety of audiences, cementing the charity’s role as a leading authority on dementia research in the UK and globally. They also help to create a clear, creative, and compelling case for the need for research and the progress being made towards finding a cure.

Key responsibilities include finding and developing stories around ARUK research, managing our news and views website, and commissioning multi-media content that tells the story of ARUK and progress in dementia research. 

With much of the charity’s fundraising propositions centring around our research portfolio, this role and the team it leads are the keystone that unites our research output and fundraising approaches.  This means working closely with our Philanthropy and Gifts in Wills teams to create impactful research content, as well as supporting engagement activities.

This means you will be an effective and inspiring communicator, creating and landing content covering ARUK research, impact and commentary across multiple communications channels and audiences. This includes: creating social media and digital content, such as blogs and website summaries; managing the progress reporting for a philanthropic audience and creating content for supporter and researcher newsletters.

You will also be expected to engage in broader communications and events work both within the team and beyond it. This is a challenging, creative and busy role, but one that oversees a function that is absolutely critical to ARUK and its mission.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

· Work with both the Senior Science Communications Manager and the Head of Communications, to plan and implement inspirational science communications programmes and initiatives that support the delivery of the charity’s 10-year strategy.

· Lead and develop a team of 2 Officers, working closely across the wider science communications team.

· Develop and maintain a first-rate working knowledge of the dementia research field, including ARUK’s portfolio, strategy, impact and history, and act as a go-to person for the latest information and insight in dementia research and able to communicate this effectively.

· Ensure the team develops and maintains relationships with a wide network of experts from across the dementia research field, including through attending research conferences and representing ARUK.

· Develop and implement communications plans for dementia research stories – both ARUK-funded and responding to other stories in the news.

· Responsible for regular out-of-hours science sign off, alongside the wider science communications management team (organised through an on-call rota, and occasional ad hoc).

· Supporting the Philanthropy and Gifts in Wills teams by ensuring progress reports are delivered on time and have met the required brief, producing other engaging research content when needed, managing a series of lab visits, and identifying and briefing scientific speakers for events or VIP visits.

· Oversee the charity’s work to engage researchers, growing the field, sharing best practice, and coordinating events and development opportunities to ensure the UK remains a world-class place to conduct dementia research.

· Develop and maintain high-level narrative documents that make the case for research and the work of ARUK, and devise and develop innovative and creative communications products and campaigns based on this narrative.

· Manage the ‘Our Research’ and ‘News and Views’ sections of the ARUK website, ensuring engaging and up-to-date content, video and graphics, and monitoring the performance of digital content.

· Lead the development of public-facing communications for our major research initiatives such as the Drug Discovery Alliance, Clinical Accelerator programme and UK Dementia Research Institute.

· Represent ARUK to a high level within key relationships and partnership projects including, but not restricted to, Join Dementia Research, Brains for Dementia Research, Blood Biomarker Challenge, the Science Media Centre and other shorter-term partnerships.

· Manage multiple short and long term projects, working with teams within the charity and key external stakeholders.

· Ensure activities comply with ARUK’s branding and style guide.

 

What we are looking for:

· Educated to Degree Level in life sciences.

· Experience of working with the media at a national level.

· Experience of developing multi-media communications including film content, infographics for a variety of audiences.

Role Summary

ProVeg International is a global organisation made up of 12 national non-profit teams, each of which responsible for local fundraising, supported by an international fundraising team focused on major opportunities, international, and core funding.

The role of the Grant Writing Manager is to provide excellent and compelling fundraising content of all kinds, whether internal cases for support, proposals, applications or reports in order to support the goal of at least doubling our global income from around 15 to 30 million dollars in the next three years.

You will be an expert in grant writing, and have a keen eye for detail and basic financial acumen related to project funding bids. You will manage a pipeline of global trusts and foundation applications, while providing support to proposals of other kinds driven by the wider fundraising team. Ideally you would be experienced in drafting compelling narratives for complex charitable causes, ideally in climate, environment or food systems transformation.

Responsibilities

International income generation

• Together with the International Fundraising Manager and Philanthropy Director, contribute to and implement a 3-year international grants strategy, and develop annual and quarterly objectives and key results (OKRs).

• Research and prepare proposals for potential major donors, trusts and foundations, and where relevant, corporate opportunities, and coordinate international and joint bids.

• Develop a pipeline of existing and potential trusts and foundations.

• Identify and develop processes and systems to support the growth of grants income.

• Identify suitable projects within the organisation’s plan in order to build cases for support and satisfy donor wish lists.

• Develop pitch packages and stories for different audiences, in particular donors motivated by reasons other than animal protection.

Country-specific and infrastructure support 

• Contribute to the international fundraising calls, support ProVeg country directors and national fundraising teams with grant applications.

• Identify and develop processes and systems to support the growth of trust and foundation income. 

• Help build the global grant-related infrastructure, including but not limited to:

  • Guidelines/policies

  • Compliance

  • Strengthening CRM use and internal coordination

  • SOPs

  • Project impact evaluation with the Monitoring Evaluation & Learning team

  • Finance tracking with the Finance Manager

• Any other administrative or comparable support that may be required

Qualifications

Required:

• 5+ years of experience of grant writing at a not-for-profit, preferably an international NGO.

• A track record of identifying and securing significant, and/or multi-year, five-figure+ funds from trusts, foundations and/or corporates, ideally also having obtained unrestricted (‘core’/operational) funding.

• Expertise in the development of grant application strategies and proposals (including strategic prioritisation of projects and opportunities).

• Experience with different grant-making bodies and requirements.

• Ability to turn numbers, outcomes and goals into a compelling story.

• Evidence of successful proposal writing, from start to finish, as well as experience with writing concise reports.

• Excellent project-management and organisational skills, including documentation of work, with the ability to lead and work collaboratively.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, including confident demeanour and experience in engaging with a diverse range of people. 

• Passion for and commitment to ProVeg's mission.

The Senior Communications Manager (Policy and Campaigns) will be responsible for Alzheimer’s Research UK’s (ARUK’s) communications and media activity relating to key organisational communications campaigns like Think Brain Health and policy change. The role supports two fast-paced and multi-disciplinary teams that act as a key mouthpiece for the charity, its behaviour change campaigns strategic projects and policy work. The Senior Manager will ensure quality, accuracy and consistency in our messaging and develop multi-channel content to engage and inspire the public and other stakeholder audiences with our work. The Senior Manager and their teams also use their expertise to support our Fundraising, Marketing and Policy Departments in achieving their ambitions.

The Senior Manager will act as a point of contact for communications and media sign-off across the organisation, providing strategic communications advice and coordinating activity across the teams they support. They will work closely with the Head of Communications and Executive Director of Policy, Communications, and Involvement, Head of Policy and Public Affairs, and Heads of Brand & Digital to ensure ongoing cross-working across the wider Policy, Communications and Involvement directorate and wider organisation. It is a creative, challenging and rewarding role, providing policy and organisational knowledge and communications insight to shape much of the charity’s high profile public-facing activity.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

· Leadership of the Policy Communications and Campaigns and Projects teams, line managing two Managers and a team of around 5 people.

· Delivery of operational plan and the day-to-day budgeting, ensuring that the team operates cost effectively in meeting its objectives.

· Overseeing ARUK media and communications activities including planning ARUK-led PR launches and campaigns, developing creative multi-channel content to showcase ARUK’s work, developing and optimising messages according to audience and task, and creating high impact opportunities to reach the public, decision makers and donors.

· Developing a full understanding of the news agenda around the issue of dementia and devising strategies to influence and lead this agenda and its conversations.

· Responsible for news desk and managing on call media cover, with matrix management of colleagues

· Responsible for updating PR key messages and media training of key spokespeople.

· Responsible for collating and analysing PR metrics to inform future approaches.

· Working with all managers, in particular the Senior Strategic Comms Manager, the Senior Science Comms Manager, across the wider Communications Dept to ensure coordination of activity, ongoing Department culture and development of new working practices.

· Representation of ARUK through media work up to national level.

· Representation of ARUK at project boards, working groups and chairing meetings, as appropriate.

Policy Communications

· Work with the Policy Comms Manager to design influential communication strategies and build thought leadership campaigns that build public support for ARUK’s key influencing priorities. 

· Work with the Head of Policy and Public Affairs to develop a strategic approach to engaging decision makers, and ensuring an influential programme of proactive comms activity that positions ARUK in the media on key policy issues.

· Horizon scanning and monitoring of the latest policy and political developments relating to ARUK and its work, and identifying processes to commission content and pitches that drive proactive PR.

Campaigns and Projects

· Working with the Communications Manager (Campaigns and Projects) to lead the development of the Think Brain Health check in tool; through optimising existing marketing and communications opportunities to maximise engagement and build public awareness of Brain Health

· Responsible for stakeholder management across internal colleagues, and funder engagement around key external partnerships (e.g. John West, Tiltify).

· Responsible for optimising ARUK’s biannual Dementia Attitudes Monitor, and identifying communications campaigns and opportunities to influence public attitudes towards dementia

 

What we are looking for:

· Experience leading, developing and line managing a team

· Experience working in a campaigns, policy or behaviour change communications role in a national organisation

· Strong experience in communications – including planning and developing compelling content and reaching audiences with creative communications and campaigns

Peer Support Group Development Officer - Midlands Area

Must live in the Midlands area (Birmingham, Nottingham, Coventry, Worcester etc)

Overview:

Following the successful application of a National Lottery award, we are seeking two dedicated and compassionate Peer Support Group Development Officers to set up and sustain local peer support groups for people living with and affected by prostate cancer. These roles focus on building on our established networks to expand peer support in defined areas, facilitating group formation, and enhancing service delivery through strategic outreach and resource development.

This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of individuals living with and affected by prostate cancer, providing crucial support through community-based initiatives. Key Responsibilities:

• Group formation and support: Oversee the setup and operation of 10-12 self-sustaining and independent peer support groups within your assigned region across the lifetime of the three-year project. Ensure smooth delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of group activities. Support existing group leaders and organisers to reach more people living with and affected by prostate cancer with tools and resources.
• Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, train, and support volunteer Support Group Leaders. Assist in the co-production of training materials and resources, aimed at creating self-sustainable groups.
• Community Engagement: Conduct outreach to map existing support services and facilitate the integration of these services with the peer support groups. Host local engagement events to boost volunteer recruitment.
• Data and Case Management: Use a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to support high-quality volunteer and case management, ensuring accurate data collection to support service outcomes.
• Training and Development: Develop and deliver tailored training programmes for volunteers based on the specific needs of Group Leaders and Organisers. Set up regional forums for sharing best practices and peer networking. Encourage use of Members Portal to share good practice.
• Documentation and Compliance: Ensure compliance with Best Practice Guidance document. Ensure adherence to safeguarding policies to maintain safe governance of peer support groups.

Skills and Qualities Required:

• Strong Facilitation and Communication Skills: Ability to engage effectively with diverse groups. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
• Project Management: Proven skills in managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders. Ability to meet deadlines and manage a varied workload.
• Volunteer Management: Experience in recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers in community settings. Knowledge of best practices in volunteer management.
• Influencing: Experience of influencing a wide range of partners and stakeholders, and in particular clinicians and voluntary and community providers within the health and wellbeing community.
• Community Development: Experience of developing and delivering community services with a range of stakeholders, including health and social care workers, commissioners, local authority and community and voluntary partners.
• Data-Driven Approach: Experience with data collection and CRM systems and a commitment to data-driven service evaluation.
• Community Sensitivity: Experience collaborating with people with a lived experience of cancer or other long-term conditions. Ability to understand and empathise with community needs.
• Administrative: Strong administration and IT skills to maintain accurate records and documentation.
• Safeguarding Knowledge: A good understanding of safeguarding practices, particularly concerning vulnerable populations.

Educational Qualifications:

• Relevant qualification or experience in Community Development, Psychology, Public Health, or a related field is preferred.

The Head of Fundraising & Communication is responsible for the generation of funds for Kintsugi Hope by a variety of income streams and for ensuring the Kintsugi Hope brand and services are marketed throughout the UK. This will involve managing a Fundraisng Manager and Communications Manager and collaborating with the wider team to ensure success. A key outcome is that the annual fundraising target is achieved. 

Main Responsibilities: 

·Lead and oversee the Fundraising & Communications function, including line management of the Fundraising Manager, and Communications Manager.

·Accountable for growing income year on year in line with operational plan targets.

·Accountable for acquisition and retention of regular donors in line with operational plan targets.

·Accountable for ensuring a clear plan is in place to achieve the income targets.

·Responsible for oversight of communication to donors that inspires and engages them to continue to support the charity financially.

·Responsible for own major donor caseload, including communication and impact reporting

·Accountable for oversight of the Kintsugi Hope brand, ensuring it is maintained and protected. 

·Accountable for oversight of the Kintsugi Hope tone of voice in all communication and marketing.

We’re looking for an experienced project manager interested in the deliberative democracy field to deliver selection and stratification services to clients, to enable randomly selected processes to take place at all levels of government & society. As a project manager, you will be responsible for ensuring a smooth journey for our clients and a high quality of service delivery.

• Liaise with clients to manage selection and stratification services

• Co-ordinate the design, printing and postage of invitation materials, including the random selection of addresses for the invitations to be sent to

Corporate Partnerships Account Manager
Home based, remote working 
£39,000 pa plus excellent benefits

As the Corporate Partnerships Account Manager you will:

1. Account manage and build strong relationships with a portfolio of Corporate Partners with current value of four and five figures

2. Manage a range consultancy relationships from kick off to project completion, working with colleagues across the charity

3. Use your knowledge and experience to improve our ways of working to help us build better, more impactful relationships with our corporate partners

4. Work with colleagues across fundraising to identify and develop new opportunities to engage corporate partners through products and events

This role is great development opportunity for someone with corporate partnerships and/or account management experience.  You know what it takes to make a partnership a success and are looking to take the lead across your own portfolio of partners.

You are experienced in writing persuasively for a range of audiences. You are also a confident communicator, with the ability to lead meetings with senior stakeholders or present to a room full of people.

You are comfortable collaborating across teams, with experience of bringing people together to solve a problem or achieve a goal. You’ll be comfortable working to your own initiative and taking the lead on projects and relationships.

We are now seeking a Communications and Campaigns Manager who will be a creative thinker able to Think Big and Act Wild whilst managing the timely and effective delivery of communications campaigns, projects and events, increasing our advocacy and fundraising impact.

The post holder will be a strong planner, organiser, pro-active team player and hands-on campaigner. You’ll be a key member of the Communications and Engagement team and use your strong collaborative skills to work effectively with our Catalyse, Influence and Fundraising teams to create powerful, transformative communications and campaigns.

You will be results driven and enjoy managing multiple communications projects across different channels in order to increase engagement levels with different stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity to join our fast growing charity and directly contribute to the growth of the rewilding movement.

Job purpose:

To lead the design, development and delivery of Rewilding Britain's integrated communication campaigns, projects and events, enabling the charity to engage with its target audiences and encourage measurable impact across rewilding practice, policy and fundraising.

Line Manager: Director of Communications and Engagement

Line Management Responsibilities: No line management. The post holder will have responsibility for maintaining management of freelancers, agencies and partners.

Your responsibilities will include:

Communications campaign development and management:

• Develop and project manage a programme of integrated communication campaigns that grab attention and encourage action across rewilding practice, policy and fundraising.
• Work closely with the Communications and Engagement team to develop aligned messaging and campaign assets and to deliver these across owned, earned and paid channels.
• Lead on the creation of compelling campaign assets and content (e.g. polls, petitions, online actions and campaign toolkits).
• Manage campaign timeframes and budgets seeking a good, quantifiable return on investment.
• Gather and present audience insight to inform our campaigns and ensure our campaigning work is evidence led.
• Set and measure campaign KPIs, conduct campaign de-briefs and write campaign evaluations, encourage a culture of testing and learning and growing our campaigning approach.
•  Seek relevant external collaboration opportunities with allies and partners to amplify our campaigns.
• Where appropriate, commission and manage the relationship with external creative, campaigning and advertising agencies.

Communications projects and events management:

• Organise, plan and deliver our involvement at online and in person events that will help to encourage action across rewilding practice, policy and fundraising (e.g. exhibition stands at party political conferences or corporate fundraising events).
• Design, deliver and project manage cross-organisational communication activities which will raise the profile of Rewilding Britain (e.g.World Rewilding Day, anniversary events).
• Support the Catalyse, Influence and Fundraising teams with the communication requirements for events (e.g. Rewilding Network conferences, fundraising dinners, panel debates, report launches).

Cross-functional collaboration:

• Work closely with the Catalyse, Influence and Fundraising teams to integrate campaign efforts and identify the relevant campaign issues, priorities and opportunities for influencing policy, fundraising and Network membership growth.
• Support the broader Communications and Engagement team to implement strategically aligned locally focused communications activities, projects and events for England, Scotland or Wales.
• Collaborate with freelancers, consultants, agencies, volunteers, supporters, and stakeholders to amplify our communications and campaigns reach and impact.
• Represent Rewilding Britain alongside other team members at events, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, rallies and more to advance our communication and campaign objectives.

Communication innovation and improvement:

• Stay current with sector and specialist trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to continuously grow our communications and campaign effectiveness.
• Implement feedback and lessons learned to refine and improve our communications and campaigns approach.

Skills, experience and behaviours

Education

Essential

• An undergraduate degree or equivalent professional training or at least 6 years relevant experience in a relevant subject area (e.g. Communications, Campaigns, Marketing, Media, Social Campaigns, Environment, Ecology, Conservation)

Desirable

• A professional qualification in a relevant subject area (e.g. CIPR, CIM, CIDM)

Experience

Essential

• At least three years' experience leading in a communications and campaigns role in a comparable organisation, leading successful campaigns to further organisational objectives.
• Proven experience in executing multi-channel paid and low/no cost integrated communications campaigns (owned, earned and bought) to drive advocacy / behaviour change.
• Experience in managing communication projects resulting in effective events or activities.
• Experience in creating and implementing innovative, bold and effective communications ideas that gain traction.
• Experience of evaluating communications and campaigns and measuring impact.
• Experience in managing budgets and financial planning for campaigns.
• Proven experience of adapting communications approaches for a range of stakeholders to create maximum impact.
• Experience of briefing, commissioning and collaborating with communications, campaigns or creative freelancers and / or agencies.
• Experience working in a sector relevant to rewilding, and understanding of the rewilding landscape and the rewilding movement.

Desirable

• Understanding of the workings of national, local and devolved governments. 
• Experience of working in communications and campaigns in a policy/advocacy context and/or fundraising context.

Terms and conditions and staff benefits

The role is a full-time, 5-day-week (35 hours) position.

The salary is £38,000 - £43,000 per annum depending upon experience.

There will be some freedom for the person to determine their own working arrangements each week, within limitations, providing the work is delivered.

Rewilding Britain employees benefit from 25 days annual leave per year (pro rata for part time roles), rising to 30 days over 5 years. A generous employer-matched pension scheme is also available.

We are a virtual team who work from home and/or co-working spaces. We will support you to achieve a suitable virtual working environment. This role will be involved in coordinating and attending events and meetings face to face across Britain, so a willingness to travel with occasional overnight stays is essential.
