We are recruiting a Women’s Legal Advisor. This interesting and diverse role sits both within ASAP’s legal and policy teams and involves provision of legal advice, representation at the asylum support tribunal, delivery of training and influencing work with the Home Office.
Key information:
- Permanent contract, following a six months’ probation
- Full-time post (but we will consider requests for working 28 hours a week)
- Hybrid working, so based 2 days a week in our offices in East London

The Asylum Support Appeals Project (ASAP) is a small national charity which was set up in 2004 to reduce destitution by protecting people's legal rights to food and shelter. We have a team of 12 permanent staff members and 45 volunteer solicitors and barristers.
ASAP delivers three strands of work:
- High-quality legal representation at the Asylum Support Tribunal, for people appealing against Home Office decisions to refuse or withdraw their accommodation and financial support.
- Training, an advice line and online forum to support hundreds of frontline organisations, advice agencies and legal practitioners across the UK who are helping people apply for financial support or accommodation.
- We use our strong evidence base to improve government policies and procedures on asylum support through policy work and strategic litigation.
The Women’s Legal Advisor works across the three strands of ASAP’s work to promote and protect the rights of women within the asylum support system. It is a varied and interesting role spanning legal representation at the Asylum Support Tribunal (AST), the provision of advice on ASAP’s Advice Line, the delivery of training, and influencing work with the Home Office. The post is currently focused on access to support for those experiencing domestic abuse however, the future focus of this project will be one of the first priorities for the new post holder, after induction.
A strong interest and commitment to upholding the rights of women is essential, as is an understanding of the barriers and difficulties that women seeking asylum face. You will work closely and collaboratively with colleagues internally, providing advice and support on issues impacting women in the asylum system. You will work with partner organisations externally, pursuing asylum support policy improvements for women and supporting advice workers to assist women to access housing and financial support. The role is part of ASAP’s policy team as well as our legal team (staff members providing legal representation at the AST and via our advice line). The Head of Legal provides legal supervision to the role, and assistance with legal accuracy of training materials.

About the role
We are looking for a Systems Project Manager who will manage the development and implementation of two systems – a new Finance System, which will require a migration from our current system (Great Plains) and a new Services System, which will bring a consistent approach and set of processes for the Services teams.
These systems will be the cornerstones for the establishment of a fully connected, digital organisation, setting out the initial premise for automation and integration between systems.
This role will work alongside a Business Analyst and the individual teams, ensuring that their requirements and needs are being met, supporting system development and any iterative/customisation work that is identified. You will work with a project team on both projects, comprising key stakeholders from across all disciplines, supporting them and the wider organisational teams through each step of the project, from refinement of requirements, through review, testing, final implementation and embedding.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Project Management
- Lead and manage the end-to-end implementation of both Finance and Services systems, developing and monitoring project plans, and ensuring completion on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Highlight potential risks and challenges, and proactively seek to resolve issues
- System Implementation
- Oversee the implementation of the system, ensuring the opportunities for integration with other systems and processes have been identified and documented, and that there is a coordinated approach to testing, validation, and data migration.
- Support the complete mapping of key processes by the Business Analyst.

Student Action for Refugees is the national network of students building a society where refugees and asylum seekers are welcomed and can thrive. Set up by students at the University of Nottingham in 1994, we are an inclusive network with UK students, students from refugee backgrounds and international students working together to make change.
We are a membership charity and the members are STAR student union society groups. A small staff team train and support the network and lead on national projects, campaign and advocacy work.
People who arrive in the UK after fleeing war and persecution face many challenges in both claiming their right to asylum and in building new lives. Challenges that result from a hostile policy environment, negative public attitudes, unhelpful media narrative, a lack of access to services and barriers to higher education.
Our network of STAR student societies and activists is creating a more understanding, just and welcoming society. We do this by: providing practical support and connecting communities through local and national volunteering activities; improving access to university; campaigning for policy change; learning and sharing information about asylum and the lived experience of refugees to shift the narrative.
Impact: Last year, our network of STAR student groups spanned 39 universities and were run by 213 student leaders. How Will You Make a Difference?
The Head of Operations collaborates closely with the CEO and SLT to oversee and manage Amna's operations, ensuring the seamless delivery of programmes to reach the communities we serve. Responsible for the efficient management of risk managemet, safety and security, administration and logistics, people and culture, finance, safeguarding, ITC, the role holder plays a key role in maintaining compliance with Amna's guidelines, donors’ rules and regulations, and local laws across programmes and operations. The Head of Operations reports to the CEO and is responsible for managing a dedicated team of three, a Finance Manager, People and Culture Manager and an Operations Officer.
Key responsibilities:
Comprehensive Risk and Safety Management:
- Conduct risk assessments taking into account the diverse geographical locations of team members, organizational partners, and the nature of projects.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Expert qualification (Qualified accountant) or in at least one relevant area demonstrating advanced proficiency and specialized knowledge.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in managerial roles within international/NGO organizations, with a focus on HR, administration, IT, financial management, risk management and legal affairs.
- Understanding of UK Charity Commission regulations.
- Experience with cloud services and knowledge of IT policies and procedures.
- Deep understanding of DEI principles and proven experience in championing DEI initiatives within organizations.
- Extensive experience in financial planning, budgeting, and grant management within the NGO sector.
- Expertise in conducting risk assessments, developing risk management plans, and ensuring compliance with international and local regulations.
- In-depth knowledge of safeguarding principles, policies, and practices within international organizations.

Remuneration Package

The resettlement team provides advice and support for resettled refugees to help them access services and mainstream provision, and establish community links. Working closely with local stakeholders and in partnership with other voluntary sector agencies running similar services across the UK, the Refugee Council resettlement team promotes both the integration and independence of this group.
The Refugee Council has agreed to work in partnership with Migration Yorkshire and Local Authorities across Yorkshire and Humberside to deliver the regional Resettlement programmes.
We will be working with Ukraine nationals who have arrived under the Homes for Ukraine programme in Doncaster, Rotherham and East Riding. The resettlement teams in each area will provide the following support:

About the role
Many people who use our services can incur additional risks of abuse and exploitation because of their personal circumstances and experiences including mental illness, trauma, and violence. Some people may have been subject to abuse in their country of origin or on their journey to, or since coming to the UK. Whilst we support beneficiaries through our services and activities, additional action may be needed to prevent and respond to potential or current risks.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Deputising for the Designated Safeguarding Officer and working with them to develop and implement a robust Safeguarding Strategy within the charity.
- Reporting to the Corporate Safeguarding Board on the implementation of the safeguarding strategy, current organisational safeguarding risks and mitigations to ensure robust safeguarding governance and culture in the charity.
- Convening the Safeguarding Managers Forum to review the implementation of the policy and procedure and share and develop best practice.
Flexible working
The role is suitable for job sharing and partial home working. Attendance at meetings and in-person training in London, Leeds and Sheffield is required.

The Youth Participation and Support Worker will work with care experienced young people subject to immigration controls, to tackle the injustice and inequity of the systems, policies and procedures that define their lives.
They will support young migrants to evaluate what they have learned through their experience of being in care and going through the immigration system so that young people are able to recognise the skills and strengths they have developed. As a Family Resettlement Worker, you will work with a caseload of families and individuals who have arrived in Westminster, London under a UK government (refugee) resettlement scheme (or who have been resettled to Westminster through another route). You will support people in their homes and in the local community, guiding them to identify their goals as they begin their new lives in Westminster.
Support to our clients is holistic and will include: support to register with GP and access/understand the UK health system; support to understand and apply for benefits; support and encouragement to engage in Employment, Training and Education opportunities; and support to manage their housing tenancies. Role Overview:
NNRF is seeking a new Chair of Trustees to lead the organisation into its next phase of development. We are looking for someone with excellent leadership skills, strategic and governance experience, who is passionate about the needs of refugees and asylum seekers. The Chair will work in partnership with our members and Trustee board to ensure the charity runs according to its constitution and statutory obligations.
