We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced ESOL Tutor to design and deliver high quality learner-centered teaching and assessment experiences to our adult learners from pre-entry level up to level 1, whilst supporting the Adult and Community Learning Manager to achieve the Trust’s strategic objectives.
This is a sessional term-time role. Working hours will be discussed and agreed at the interview stage.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
Teaching
- Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality teaching and learning sessions, workshops, and tutorials in line with the curriculum requirements and the needs of individual learners, ensuring learning objectives are met.
- Assess learners’ abilities and identify areas for improvement, tailoring teaching and learning methods and resources accordingly.
- Develop and deliver consistently engaging and interactive sessions, utilising a variety of teaching techniques and materials to enhance learners’ understanding and engagement with the subject/topic.
- Set and mark assignments, tests, and examinations, providing constructive feedback to learners to support their learning and improvement.
- Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment, actively promoting learner participation, motivation, and confidence in professional development.
Administration
- To identify materials and equipment/resource needs to assist the provision of teaching and learning by students.
- Maintaining up to date course files and submitting accurate data on attendance and achievement within agreed deadlines.
- Preparing groups of learners for accredited assessment (exam or portfolio) & non-accredited assessment (RARPA), marking assessments and taking part in internal moderation and/or consultation meetings with appropriate Trust staff.
- Providing feedback on appropriate documentation for example observation, IQA reports etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Essential
- Proven successful track record of planning and delivering high quality teaching of accredited and non-accredited provision in a relevant subject and at appropriate level(s).
- Experience of teaching adult learners of mixed abilities and an understanding of appropriate teaching strategies in a similar role.
- Experience of devising course outlines and schemes of work.
- Experience of assessing and recording progress, both in accredited and non-accredited learning and supporting learners.
- Knowledge and experience of working with a variety of exam boards.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and the ability to work as part of a highly collaborative team.
Desirable
- Understanding of the RARPA (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement in non-accredited learning) system.
- Experience of working/teaching refugees and or asylum seekers.
- The ability to speak another language.
Qualifications:

- Hold a recognised teaching qualification such as CELTA, DELTA or TESOL or
- A full teaching qualification for working in adult learning (DTLLS, PGCE or DET)
- A minimum GCSE English Grade C or equivalent

Duties and responsibilities

The School:
Merchant Taylors’ School is a large Independent Boys’ School, situated in 280 acres of parkland in Northwood, Middlesex. The School was founded in 1561, is owned by the Merchant Taylors’ Educational Trust and moved to its present site in 1933. There are four distinct boys’ day schools on campus. The Nursery, the Pre-Prep & the Prep cater for 370 boys, while the Senior School has over 960 pupils. Main duties and responsibilities:
Fundraising
· Developing and innovating the school’s regular giving programme, the Merchant Taylors’ Fund, to ensure a consistent income stream and increased participation from alumni, parents and friends.
· In conjunction with external consultants, running our (currently) biennial telephone fundraising campaigns and Giving Days.
· Liaising with school departments, clubs and societies to identify exciting projects to motivate supporters.
· Segmenting and targeting recipients for appeals to ensure the greatest impact and returns.
· Devising the strategy for promoting legacy giving as a means of supporting Merchant Taylors’, and to implement this strategy to increase the number of known legacy pledges to the school.
Stewardship
· Establishing and running a comprehensive benefactor stewardship programme that thanks and stewards donors at all levels, including legacy pledges, through regular communication and events.
Reporting
· Reporting on progress against all objectives to the Development and Alumni Relations Sub-Committee of Governors.
· Where appropriate, working with the Development Executive (Events and Communications), to produce benefactor report publications and contribute to other Development publications.
· Ensuring that all contact with OMTs and parents is recorded on the Development Office’s database, the Raiser’s Edge.

Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust (HWDT) is a marine conservation charity based on the Isle of Mull. This role is responsible for the development and delivery of HWDT’s new education project, Hebridean Marine Explorers - Connecting Scotland’s seas and communities.
The Education Officer will develop and deliver:

Educating young people on land and at sea is key to the role so we are seeking a confident, enthusiastic, organised self-motivator, familiar working with schools and young people, with outstanding communication skills. We are looking for somebody experienced in teaching and delivering environmental education activities and training for young people, ideally with knowledge of co-design project delivery and its implementation within a primary school environment.

About the Role
You’ll join our cross-functional Product & Engineering team to build and improve the digital platforms that teachers and pupils rely on every day. You'll work closely with product managers, designers, researchers, and curriculum specialists to develop user-facing applications using technologies like TypeScript, Next.js, GraphQL, and SQL.
This is a hands-on role with plenty of scope for technical leadership and mentoring, alongside the opportunity to shape our engineering practices and culture. You'll be part of a supportive, collaborative team that cares deeply about accessibility, usability, and delivering tools that genuinely improve learning.
What You’ll Be Doing

Building responsive, accessible web interfaces using TypeScript and Next.js

Designing and writing clean, well-tested code that’s easy to maintain and scale

Acting as a go-to person for key areas of our codebase, while supporting continuous improvement

Championing new tools or practices that improve the developer experience

Supporting and mentoring colleagues across the team

Taking part in our on-call rota to help keep our products reliable and available

Collaborating with others across the organisation in multi-disciplinary squads

Contributing to planning, retros, and the wider culture of Oak
What We’re Looking For

Solid experience building production-level web applications with TypeScript and React/Next.js

Experience working on cross-functional product teams in agile environments

Understanding of automated testing and how different types (unit, integration, etc.) add value
-
A thoughtful approach to accessibility and user experience

Strong collaboration and communication skills

Comfortable working independently in a remote setup, managing your time and relationships effectively

A proactive, growth-oriented mindset and a desire to help others thrive
