We create events and programmes that explore commonalities and shared narratives of people across all faiths and those of differing perspectives. We are currently a small team of three employees and 3 more regular freelancers with ambitions to grow! 

We are now looking for our next hire - an experienced Operations Manager - to help us support our ambitious plans.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This newly created role will be responsible for defining, shaping and implementing key processes and systems related to programme management, and overall business operations including finance. These processes will enable us to streamline our business and support the needs of our companies programmes and funding requirements.

In addition, this role will be responsible for overseeing our facilities management and internal operations to ensure we are compliant and have H&S at the heart of everything we do.

What you will be responsible for:

• Be responsible for all aspects of the management, development and maintenance of SCA Port Hope building, site and its external premises. 

• Ensure statutory inspections and routine checks on health and safety and security are scheduled, undertaken, accurately recorded and, where appropriate, and reported in a timely fashion. This includes fire and security alarm systems and equipment, any others that are relevant. 

• Liaise with relevant authorities in the management of the site and buildings eg the Environment Agency, Birmingham City Council etc as required. 

• Manage the provision of services eg insurance and utilities, working with the Executive Director to undertake due diligence and secure competitive quotes. 

• Oversee the company’s compliance with all legislative and contractual requirements. 

• Commission and manage relationships with all contractors working within the buildings and external premises, including maintenance as required.

• Plan the delivery of all capital works to the building with the production manager (funding pending) 

• Act as a key-holder and be on call should issues occur out of hours. 

• Ensure procedures and processes are followed to protect the security of the buildings and site. 

• Work with the freelance staff to ensure they have the appropriate training on Health and Safety, First Aid, Manual handling etc. 

• Prepare required reports and recommendations for Team, Board and funders as required. 

• Manage operational contracts such as refuse collection, etc.

• Lead on the organisation’s Health and Safety Strategy, including provision of adequate first aid and fire safety. 

• Oversee and ensure implementation and communication of site and operational risk assessments.

• Ensure compliance with all legal obligations and licensing requirements including: Public Entertainment, Health and Safety, PAT testing etc. 

• Take a lead on SCA environmental responsibility, ensuring SCA seeks to reduce its carbon footprint and we operate as efficiently as possible, including waste disposal, disposal of used areosols, recycling schemes and reporting of such to funders. 

• Advance planning of production schedules in conjunction with the Studio Assistant to ensure that events can be set up in good time.

• Ability to support a variety of configurations of our multi-purpose space with some basic technical knowledge.  Specialist training will be provided.  This will include audio visual display equipment, basic sound systems, setting up multi party Zooms, seating and desk configuration.

ABOUT YOU:

• Experience of managing the maintenance and operation of buildings. 

• Knowledge of safety and workplace legislation and experience of managing and delivering a policy and activity eg risk assessment writing and review. 

• Experience of setting and managing budgets and financial projections to ensure best use of resources through prioritisation and planning. 

• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload. 

• Self-motivated, practical and flexible with a positive outlook and can-do attitude. 

• IT literate, with experience in using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. 

• Interest and/or experience in technical delivery 

• Willingness to be part of an on-call rota, and to work flexible hours including some evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.

DESIRABLE SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

• Health and Safety qualification (IOSH / NCRQ / NEBOSH). 

• Previous experience of managing building management systems. 

• Experience of managing small scale capital projects including financial, operational and health and safety requirements. 

• An understanding of fire safety. 

• An understanding of accident and incident management reporting.

As a Youth & Mentor Facilitator, you will play a crucial role in creating safe and engaging environments for young people to learn, grow, and thrive. Your responsibilities include leading BelEve workshops, activities, and discussions that promote skill development, personal growth, and positive social interaction among young people within our community.

Reporting to the Programme Officer you will serve as a mentor and role model, offering guidance, support, and encouragement to help young people navigate challenges and reach their full potential. Additionally, you will collaborate with colleagues, community partners, and stakeholders to design and implement effective programmes that address the unique needs and interests of the youth demographic. Through your passion for youth development and commitment to empowerment, you will make a meaningful impact on the lives of the next generation.

The duties listed below all feed into a business development objective with the aim of reaching more schools & participants, attract new funders, build brand equity, grow portfolio of current offerings to reach both financial and impact goals detailed in the 5 year strategy and beyond.

Your responsibilities will include:

1. Facilitate BelEve Programmes

Lead or assist in leading various programmes, workshops, or activities designed for the young people with our community. These could include educational sessions, recreational activities, skill-building workshops, or support groups.

2. Engaging Youth Participants

Create a welcoming and inclusive environment where young people feel comfortable expressing themselves and participating actively. Encourage engagement, participation, and collaboration among youth participants.

Offer guidance and support to youth participants, both individually and in groups. Listen to their concerns, offer advice, and provide resources or referrals as needed. Keen advocate in mentoring youth participants. Build positive relationships with youth participants, providing guidance, support, and advocacy.

5. Developing BelEve Programme Content

Collaborate with other staff members to develop programme content and curriculum that aligns with the needs and interests of the youth demographic.

Adapt materials and activities to suit different age groups and learning styles.

6. Implementing BelEve Safeguarding Policy

Enforce and implement Safeguarding across all BelEve programmes to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. Address any behavioural issues or conflicts that arise in a fair and respectful manner.

7. Building Relationships

Establish positive relationships with the young people within our community, their families, and the wider community. Foster trust and rapport to create a supportive network for young people.

8. Report & Evaluation of BelEve Programmes

Assess the impact and effectiveness of our programmes through participant feedback, observation, and evaluation metrics. Use this information to make improvements and adjustments as necessary.

9. Collaborating with Stakeholders

Work closely with other youth workers, volunteers, partner organisations, schools, and community leaders to coordinate activities and resources for youth development.

10. Maintaining Records

Maintain clear & concise session notes, keep accurate records of programme attendance, participant demographics, and any incidents or concerns that arise. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and reporting requirements.

11. Professional Development

Stay informed about best practices, trends, and developments in youth work and related fields. Seek out opportunities for professional development and training to enhance skills and knowledge.

12. Advocacy

Support and advocate for the needs and rights of young people within BelEve and the broader community. Raise awareness about issues affecting youth and work towards positive change.

13. Administrative Tasks

Perform administrative duties such as impact studies, end of programme reports as needed to support the smooth operation of our programmes.

A little bit about the role 

Location: Flexible, with regular travel required during the autumn recruitment season (September-December)

The ideal candidate must excel in managing recruitment strategies, building relationships, and analysing data. The Recruitment team is responsible for sourcing, selecting and hiring for 500 places on Approach Social Work in local authorities across England and we expect c. 10000 applications this year to meet target.

As an attraction officer within the recruitment team, you will be responsible for delivering a targeted recruitment campaign to engage university students, graduates and career changers with Approach Social Work.

Some key responsibilities include:

• Attracting individuals who have the potential to be excellent social workers to the Frontline programme and developing recruitment strategies

We have been awarded a significant grant from the Defra Trees Call to Action Fund for #Defra Heart of England: growing momentum, capacity, skills and trees. In partnership with Stratford-on-Avon, Warwick, and Wychavon District Councils, the Heart of England Forest is leading this three year project to engage with landowners and local communities to increase tree cover across the landscape. Working together to identify suitable areas for trees to be planted, facilitate tree planting, and support woodland maintenance, new woodlands will be created that benefit the environment, boost biodiversity, and provide havens for communities to enjoy.

We are looking for two candidates with widespread experience of project delivery and good team working skills. The successful candidates will work closely with project partners to engage with local communities and larger scale landowners to identify suitable areas for tree planting.  Working with them to understand their needs, you will provide information on different types of planting and support them through the regulatory and funding process.

You will be passionate about landscape-scale conservation and the benefits this brings to both people and wildlife and have a demonstrable track record in successful team working.

The post will be based in the Heart of England Forest head office in Dorsington, but due to the nature of the project  hybrid working will form part of the role.  Each project delivery post has been assigned a particular geographic area – Warwick, Stratford-on-Avon or Wychavon district – and will be expected to travel extensively across their project area. However, both posts will contribute to delivery across the wider project area as applicable, working on a collaborative manner with the existing project team.

Specific responsibilities

· Lead local mission activity within Scripture Union’s mission framework, establishing a clear hand-over process and timetable to local church partners.

This role will join TCV at an exciting time for our charity. You will be central to a small immediate Fundraising team and a wider income generation directorate. This is a great opportunity to work on the implementation of our income strategy that aims to grow our supporter base and engage existing audiences.

The role reports to the Head of Fundraising & Partnerships and your key focus will be to support the growth of fundraised income over the next 3 years. This will involve many things including the development of fundraising appeals, lead generation campaigns, in memory fundraisers, legacy, payroll giving and the creation of compelling stewardship journeys for a range of audiences.

We are seeking a self-motivated individual who is keen to make a difference. You will have a broad skill set and previous experience of working in a small Fundraising team. You will be as happy responding to donor enquiries and carrying out finance reconciliation as you will be developing creative approaches for a new Fundraising appeal. The role requires a candidate with excellent communication skills - both written and verbal, experience of working with Fundraising CRMs, good analytical and administrative skills, and experience of working on a range of fundraising campaigns.

To be considered for this role you should have:
- Experience of working on fundraising campaigns using varied channels, including - email, social, direct mail.
- Excellent data handling skills and be a confident user of CRM systems.

Job summary 

We are currently seeking to appoint an inspirational and enthusiastic Education Coordinator, passionate about community-based learning to join our small and friendly team. The Education Coordinator will be responsible for the delivery and development of all aspects of the work of the adult and family learning programme and will have the opportunity to develop other provision at the centre. Our adult learning programme supports over 250 local adults each year through a range of programmes designed to improve their English language, digital and maths skills and increase their employability and involvement in the community. Our family learning programme supports over 200 children with online after-school classes in Maths, English and Science. You would also be responsible for coordinating 6 teachers remotely to deliver weekly online after-school classes for Year 3 to Year 9 in all three subjects. We also deliver a range of informal family learning provision across our Family Programme services to over 1000 users, and some of these programmes may be included in our Adult Education offer and so you will be required to support with the administration of these activities. 

The Education Coordinator will be based at our centre at 2 Thorpe Close W10 5XL and will have responsibility for working with the heads of departments, tutors and education administrator, to plan and deliver the learning programme. The successful candidate will have a full UK teaching qualification in the Further Education sector, and delivery of FSE/ESOL at various levels would be desirable; have excellent leadership and inter-personal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; be highly organised and efficient.

The salary is £33,500 per annum and in addition to bank holidays we offer 25 days’ annual leave, additional Christmas time leave, a pension scheme, cycle to work scheme and a comprehensive training programme.

The employment is subject to a probational period of twenty-six weeks from your start date of employment with Nova, during which time you will be required to demonstrate to the leadership team’s satisfaction your suitability for the position in which you are employed.

The successful candidate must: 

• Have a degree or equivalent and a full UK teaching qualification in the Further Education sector or equivalent experience. 

• Teaching experience at various levels in the FSE/ESOL sector, ideally inclusive of preparing and entering students for FSE/ESOL exams. 

• Have management experience in the education sector or in a relevant field   

• Have experience in project management and coordinating across small teams and departments. 

•  Planning and implementing changes to curricula.  

• Have excellent interpersonal, leadership and people management skills and be able to communicate effectively with and motivate a diverse range of people, both as individuals and groups.

• Be able to think creatively about different ways to help both staff and students to progress. 

• Be able to carry out effective planning, monitoring and evaluation of courses alongside planning and implementing changes to curricula.  

• Be self-motivated with a positive and enthusiastic personality and the ability to work as part of a small team. 

• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce and present reports to a variety of audiences.  

• Take pride in being efficient, well organised and on top of tasks.  

• Be able to use initiative, work effectively under pressure, meet tight deadlines, prioritise and pay excellent attention to detail. 

• Demonstrate awareness of and commitment to the provision of a quality service; the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and valuing equal opportunities and diversity. 

• Be able to demonstrate flexibility and commitment to taking a full and active part in the life of the charity, including ad hoc support of other programmes, adapting to and managing change.

• It is essential you have the right to work in the UK at the time of application – this is an office-based role in North Kensington, London. 

• Desirable Experience 

• Some knowledge and experience of the charity sector. 

• Demonstrate experience of teaching FSE/ESOL to a high standard through ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ teaching observation records. 

Responsibilities/ Core duties:  

• To organise, administer and develop all aspects of the learning programme and achieve given targets for retention, achievement, pass rates and other set KPIs in all curriculum areas, including Adult Education and children’s after-school classes delivered by our Family Programme. 

• To overview the accredited and non-accredited learning courses and develop curricula as appropriate. 

• To organise appropriate accreditation in each curriculum area and ensure that the requirements of the awarding body/ies are met as an internal verifier, and ensure that all paperwork meets the required standard of the awarding body/ies. 

• To ensure that the RARPA process is fully implemented. 

• To ensure compliance with OFSTED rules and procedures. 

• To plan progression routes into further learning or employment. 

• To work within the agreed departmental budgets and targets set by funders. 

• To manage the teachers and tutors, including regular observations, performance management and professional support, including children’s teachers delivering after-school classes remotely. 

• To identify and assess the continuous professional development needs of tutors and organise and facilitate education team meetings, including the Family Programme children’s teachers. 

• To keep up to date with national and regional developments in adult learning and cascade the information appropriately. 

• To plan and monitor the programme of courses in each area of the curriculum including liaison and/or partnership with other organisations, timetabling, holiday cover, including the Family Programme after school classes for children. 

• To oversee volunteer tutors to include monitoring, feedback and follow-up and ensure the line managers are assigned for specific subjects, including volunteer online classroom assistants or teachers for the Family Programme. 

• To maintain a Tutor Area on Share Point with examples of best practice and practical tips and advice for both Adult Education and Family Programme. 

• To ensure compliance with all necessary regulations and legal requirements, including Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety and Safeguarding of vulnerable groups. 

• To oversee internal and external data input and use data on enrolment, retention and achievement to monitor and plan provision. 

• To monitor and report on Children’s classroom attendance and learning progress in our Family Programme classes. 

• To prepare and present written reports to Heads of Department, trustees and funders as required, to include the analysis of attendance and achievement data

• To attend staff and trustee meetings, as required. 

• To prepare and present the annual and termly quality assurance and learner progress documents (eg. SAR – Self Assessment Report). 

• To oversee examinations across the organization and work with the exam boards in meeting their standards and requirements. 

• To maintain and develop our links with other organisations within the local area and London-wide. 

• To market and promote courses and services in order to attract potential learners through local schools, public organisations and community networks. 

• To deliver agreed elements of the learning courses and prepare syllabuses, evaluate individual lesson plans, schemes of work, sessions and courses. 

• To be available to cover, or arrange cover, to ensure all planned classes and courses go ahead. 

• To encourage students to extend their engagement in the community and to play a full part in the activities of the charity. 

• To create/ collate and manage calendar of events for Education, organise trips, workshops and talks for adult learners. 

• To provide a work environment that engenders positive energy, creativity and teamwork, to include regular tutor meetings and listen to/ act upon issues and concerns and by setting a professional example. 

• To support the wider work of the charity and undertake any task that may be requested from time to time that may be consistent with the nature and scope of this post.

QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE QUALITIES: A full UK teaching qualification in the Further Education sector such as DTLLS (ESOL/ ESOL Literacy/ Literacy) or PGCE/Diploma in Teaching English (ESOL/ ESOL Literacy/ Literacy), or another equivalent qualification, is desirable. Ideally, although not essential, the candidate should hold QTLS or QTS and other relevant qualifications to teach numeracy, literacy or ICT. Qualifications in internal verification and/or observation of teaching and learning would be preferred. Management experience in the education sector or in a relevant field; experience of delivering FSE/ESOL at various levels, ideally preparing and entering students for FSE/ESOL exams. A track record of good – outstanding teaching. Ideally QTLS or QTS and other relevant qualifications to teach numeracy, literacy or ICT. Experience of internal verification and observation of teaching. Excellent inter-personal and management skills; excellent written English and digital skills; efficient organisation skills; an outstanding teacher; creativity and innovation.

TRAINING: There is an initial induction period and on-going support.

We are seeking a Therapeutic Practitioner to join our newly established Health Team. This specialist role will enhance our current provision and improve the quality and breadth of mental health support available to young people. The successful candidate will work within the Health Team, in collaboration with our partner organisation Camden & Islington Young People's Service, to deliver 1:1 emotional and practical support, assist in our drop-in service, and facilitate workshops for all young people experiencing homelessness.

You will specialise in helping young people improve their self-confidence while improving their understanding of difficult emotions such as anger. Additionally, you will focus on developing their thinking and practical skills, as well as coping and de-escalation strategies. Your work will aim to improve relationships among young people within the day centre, and continue to promote trauma informed working practices across New Horizon, so that all of our services are designed to address the psychological and emotional needs of young people who are unsafe or facing homelessness.

You will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the development of an important and innovative new role. You will be provided with your own theraputic support delivered by a highly experienced clinical psychologist and regular individual and group clinical supervision. You will also be given opportunities for further professional development through training and consultation through New Horizon and our Camden & Islington's Young People Service.
