Through the appointment of a Strategic Programme Director (SPD), we have been given an opportunity to bring a step change in our mission and ministry across the Diocese of Coventry.  With a history of innovative missional practice and a dedicated team of lay and ordained leaders across our diverse geographical area (Warwickshire, Coventry and part of Solihull), we are looking to appoint a strategic thinker who is solutions focused with experience in bringing impactful change. The SPD will join us at an exciting time in the strategic development of the Diocese of Coventry as our new diocesan bishop takes up her responsibilities with a vision to see all churches flourish. A highly consultative approach will be needed as we look ahead to the beginning of this new season.

The Strategic Programme Director will be responsible for contributing to and supporting the Bishop’s Senior Staff Team and key lay and ordained leaders in the delivery of the diocesan strategy. The role will ensure that the programmes, projects and workstreams within the plan are delivered on time, within scope and budget. The Programme Director will provide oversight of the strategic plan from inception of ideas through implementation to delivery of projects.  Working collaboratively across the Diocese, the role will also ensure that key outcomes are well-defined, appropriately prioritised, delivered to plan and within budget. The role will include shaping and scoping the request for partnership/external funding.

Programme Development & Planning

• In the first year: To prioritise the clear articulation of a diocesan wide vision and direction of travel through working closely with the Bishop and the Bishop’s Senior Staff Team building on the work achieved in recent years.
• Work with key stakeholders to develop strategic initiatives aligned with the diocesan vision and strategy
• Ensure strategic proposals have clarity and viability
• Ensure effective communication with clarity, consistency and transparency
• Work with senior leaders to prioritise outline proposals
• Work with senior leaders to develop change proposals including detailed outcomes and the process by which those outcomes will be achieved
• Regularly assess the viability of development proposals
• Work with partnership funding bodies, including the C of E Vision and Strategy Team, to submit funding proposals and assure the quality of applications for any partnership funding
• Represent the Diocese in discussions with partnership funders
• Work with senior leaders to make the best use of central resources to support change

Programme Management

• Facilitate the launch of partnership-funded strategic projects, ensuring they are appropriately planned, resourced, measured and managed.
• Establish appropriate programme governance, including risk management, change management, regular reporting, and budget management
• Work with the communications team to ensure consistent and effective messaging
• Establish review and support processes to ensure projects are delivered successfully
• Ensure intervention processes are developed to pause, or if necessary, terminate projects that have demonstrated they will not deliver
• Capture and publish lessons learned, and support research studies
• Build consistent protocols for all significant strategic development initiatives
• Track progress against a detailed project plan, deliverables, outcomes and measures
• Manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs, escalating to BSIG as required
• Provide support for operational aspects of projects in liaison with diocesan colleagues
• Ensure project leads/managers regularly complete a quality project highlight report
• Address project issues and risks, escalating to BSST accordingly
• Report project status to BSST on a regular basis
• Oversee production of all necessary annual reports for the Strategic Investment Board

Role Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic professional based on the East Coast to both drive high-impact new business from corporations and major donors and build our visibility and external communications to support that goal. This is a hybrid role, balancing strategic digital marketing, brand-building and media engagement with income generation, deepening existing relationships with key stakeholders, establishing new partnerships and increasing our visibility.

This is a new position for Street Child, complementing our existing presence on the West Coast. The successful candidate will need to be a strong all-rounder, able to excel in a variety of work areas, although the role will work closely with and be supported by global communications, marketing and corporate fundraising teams, with existing strategies, materials and platforms to leverage and tailor to a US audience.

While this role is not office-based, the successful candidate will be located in or around NYC or DC.

Key Responsibilities:

Major Gift Fundraising (50%)

• Identify, cultivate, and secure partnerships with corporations and major donors, aligning their CSR goals and giving priorities with our mission.
• Leverage existing partnerships and relationships with corporations and major donors to grow a wider network of US-based corporations.
• Develop and manage sponsorship opportunities for campaigns, programs and events.
• Oversee all corporate engagement activities, including employee giving, volunteering and cause marketing campaigns.
• Develop and deliver corporate events to build relationships with and raise funds from our developing network of US-based corporations.
• Collaborate with corporate partners to enhance their internal communications strategies, driving awareness and engagement among their employees around shared initiatives.
• Craft compelling proposals, pitches and presentations for potential partners.
• Steward relationships successfully to ensure long-term impact and retention.
• Track partnership impact, prepare reports and communicate successes to internal and external stakeholders including funding partners and Street Child’s Board of Directors.
• Identify & cultivate new prospects among individuals and corporations.

Communications & Marketing (50%)

• Develop and implement a comprehensive communications and digital marketing strategy to increase brand awareness and audience engagement.
• Drive digital marketing campaigns across key channels, leveraging analytics to optimize performance.
• Lead content creation efforts, including blogs, case studies, impact stories, newsletters and press releases.
• Build and execute a strategy for growing Street Child’s share of voice in the sector, engaging with media and industry influencers.
• Work with external web developers to manage and enhance website content, SEO and UX to improve engagement and conversion.
• Monitor trends, conduct competitor analysis, and identify opportunities to position Street Child as a thought leader.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Strong track record of securing major gifts ($100,000+) from corporations and individuals, including strategic partnerships, sponsorships and events.
• High-level strategic thinking and planning.​
• Experience in a similar role across fundraising and marketing.
• Proven success in driving digital marketing strategies, growing brand awareness, and managing media relations.
• Excellent storytelling skills with experience in content creation, social media management and PR, and media connections.
• Experience using digital tools such as Google Analytics, email marketing platforms and social media management tools.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, meet tight deadlines and work both independently and collaboratively.

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; ability to prepare and publicly present materials.​

St George’s Hospital Charity manages a portfolio of over 200 Special Purpose Funds (SPFs), with a total over £3.6m. These funds, comprising donor-gifted and community-fundraised income, are designated to support specific wards, departments, research areas, or staff and patient groups. Each SPF is overseen by designated Fund Advisors, comprising staff from St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (the Trust) and City, St George’s University of London, who hold delegated authority for expenditure approvals and funding applications. With over 350 Fund Advisors, effective stewardship is crucial.

We have developed a new organisational strategy focused on enhancing our impact through grant-making, and we are now in an exciting phase of implementation. The Grants Funds Manager will play a central role in delivering this strategy, specifically by implementing a more streamlined and impactful approach to working with Fund Advisors and managing our SPF portfolio. This role will be pivotal in facilitating the transition to a more efficient and effective model of SPF giving. The Grants Funds Manager will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of the SPF portfolio, stakeholder engagement, communications, marketing, and administration, requiring collaboration across the Charity, the Trust, and the University at all levels.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Purpose of the role

To support senior management, the board of trustees and the wider charity leadership team with the strategy implementation, the management and administration of the Charity’s SPFs. As a priority, in the next 12 months, this role is tasked to implement the SPF strategy which has been agreed by the Charity’s Board of Trustees. The strategy is to re-organise and restructure the shape of the SPF portfolio of funds to minimise administrative burden, maximise the charity’s flexibility in spending decisions and reflect the best possible structure of services in the hospital so that we can deliver our charitable purposes of advancing healthcare to maximum effect.

This is why we are looking for someone who has expertise in change management, stakeholder engagement and strategic communication who is able to understand Charity Commission guidance and apply it. These are the skills necessary to implement the SPF strategy.

The next stage of the strategy will require a very strong grasp of detail, strong and confident communication and organisational skills to ensure stakeholders understand planned changes, in order to secure their support for them.

Background to the role

This role was originally created to provide dedicated resource to optimise the efficiency of our SPF portfolio, and champion these SPFs both internally among the Charity’s staff and externally within the Trust and University.

This is a role which must operate at a micro and macro level, paying attention to the detail of management, administration and systems but also with the ability to think strategically and make recommendations to senior management and trustees. The successful candidate will be highly organised and outgoing and will be an excellent project manager, with lots of initiative and the ability to reach out to people to build strong relationships. 

You will be a key member of the Grants team and be managed by the Head of Grants, but you will also work closely with all charity teams given the nature of this all-encompassing role, including providing an important link between Grants and Fundraising because of the income raised into SPFs.

About Chapter One

Chapter One is a dynamic, growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. 

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme currently supports about 3,000 children a year. It pairs disadvantaged, struggling five to eight-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who come from over 140 local and national businesses. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.

Chapter One is seeking a proactive, energetic and enthusiastic Corporate Partnerships Manager to be an integral part of a team which aims to both maximise corporate income and deliver an excellent partner and volunteer experience. 

Reporting to our Head of Corporate Partnerships, and responsible for the line management of our Corporate Partnerships Officer, you’ll deliver on our annual volunteer and income targets and maintain our strong partner retention rate (target 87%). This will involve supporting the account management of a portfolio of existing partners and the responsibility to nurture relationships to increase partner investment in Chapter One over time. Key Responsibilities

Partner Stewardship

• Lead the account management of a selected portfolio of corporate partners, ensuring Chapter One achieves its annual retention and growth targets 

• In collaboration with the Head of Corporate Partnerships, devise effective schemes of delegation and partner allocation within the Corporate Partnerships Team 

• Focus, in all corporate partnership discussions, on maximising income 

• Identify opportunities to increase a partner’s support eg by identifying other regional/divisional opportunities or inclusion of Chapter One as a social value partner in public sector bids

• Conduct regular partnership meetings, including mid and end of year reviews, proactively proposing tailored opportunities to retain and grow partner support

• Lead on producing high quality written communications, reports, proposals and pitches as per the requirements of each partner, collaborating with the Data and Systems Officer and Fundraising team as needed

• Advocate effectively, with passion and enthusiasm, for Chapter One’s programmes in a variety of internal and external settings

• Proactively network to deepen and strengthen external relationships with Chapter One partners, identifying speaking opportunities for Chapter One where possible

• Strategically use LinkedIn to identify, connect with, and actively engage key stakeholders within corporate partner organisations,

• Attend conference and events to represent Chapter One and talk about its work to existing and potential new partners

• Keep up to date with relevant business news and strategic shifts or developments at key partners and sectors, proactively seeking opportunities to broaden knowledge

• Regularly analyse data in Microsoft Excel / Google Sheets, working with formulas, pivot tables and data analysis tools to aid decision-making and create dashboards. 

• Oversee and maintain all Account Management related processes, including stewardship plans, recording of activity on the Salesforce CRM and internal platform databases

• Ensure, in conjunction with the Finance Assistant, that partners are invoiced for their Chapter One donations accurately and in a timely manner

Line management

• Line manage and develop the Corporate Partnerships Officer, ensuring adherence to all Chapter One’s HR Policies and Procedures

• Be a source of advice and guidance for the Corporate Partnerships Officer as they manage their allocated partner relationships

• Supervise the Corporate Partnerships Officer to lead volunteer recruitment meetings, including stepping in if necessary

• Supervise the Corporate Partnerships Officer to manage new partner onboarding meetings, stepping in to lead them if required

Partner/volunteer onboarding and experience

• Alongside the Head of Corporate Partnerships, use internal systems to assign partner teams and volunteers to specific schools and ensure that their needs are met

• Develop proactive, supportive relationships with Volunteer Coordinators in partner organisations, providing high-quality data and information in a timely manner

• Work closely with the Volunteer Support Team to ensure that partner and volunteer onboarding is a smooth, time-efficient experience 

• Support the Programme Management team to liaise with partner contacts about the organisation of in-person school/office visits and virtual meet and greets

• Attend Chapter One’s internal Volunteer Experience group and Corporate Engagement Group.

Marketing and Communications

• Work with the Marketing and Communications team to ensure that companies and volunteers have access to an array of promotional assets and recruitment materials

• Create and provide content for the regular volunteer and corporate partner newsletters, including working with partners to gather volunteer testimonials and partner profiles

• Work closely with the Marketing and Communications team to develop ways to promote, showcase and celebrate partnerships and individual volunteers across our social media channels and other digital platforms

• Encourage corporate partners to promote Chapter One through their own social media and channels

• Support the organisation of online and in person partner and volunteer recognition events

• Experience of managing Corporate Partnerships, or equivalent relationship-based roles in a fundraising, events, sales or marketing environment

• Understanding of CSR / ESG partner policies and social value trends

• An ability to create compelling, attractive written pitches, ensuring messaging and brand are consistent

• Experience of engaging partners on social media (particularly LinkedIn)

Technical Skills:

• Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets (including formulas, pivot tables, dashboard creation)

• CRM management (specifically Salesforce)

• Database: help implement and maintain a new CRM system.

Responsibilities

• Collaborative Strategy Execution: Works closely with the UK Managing Director, incorporating programmatic priorities for developing key funding partnerships, to align and execute the trusts and foundations fundraising strategy.
• Strategic Growth & Income Diversification: Supports the development of and executes a growth strategy to increase trust and foundation income, leveraging both existing and new opportunities, including institutional fundraising and government funding where relevant.
• Prospecting & Pipeline Development: Proactively identifies, researches, and cultivates new trust and foundation prospects to expand the current portfolio and drive significant new revenue growth in alignment with fundraising targets.
• Relationship Management & Stewardship: Establishes, nurtures, and manages strong relationships with trust and foundation donors, ensuring tailored engagement, timely reporting, and strategic alignment with donor priorities to maximize long-term support.
• Proposal & Fund Development: Leads the development and submission of compelling funding proposals to generate revenue, while ensuring collaboration with the global proposal development enablement function for high-value (£100k+) opportunities. Edits concepts, proposals, pitch decks and stewardships materials. 
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Works closely with WBR’s global Development & Marcomm and proposal development team to source insights, data, and programmatic information that strengthen proposals and enhance donor engagement, ensuring UK efforts align with international fundraising strategies.
