The AFRUCA Child Protection Family Support Service sits within AFRUCA as one of our most impactful programmes targeting families from a range of ethnic backgrounds across England and Wales. The service works closely with local authorities children’s services in cases involving families on child protection plans or in court proceedings. We provide direct one to one training and support for parents to aid their ability to provide appropriate parenting and ensure a safer, happier home environment for their children.
The AFRUCA Child Protection Service currently has a team of five qualified social workers and supports over 50 families each year. We also provide a therapeutic service where children are being reunified with their parents. We are establishing a child protection legal drop in service for families in contact with children’s services and an advocacy service for parents in the child protection system.
Most of our families are referred by local authorities children’s services as a result of cultural and religious practices which are deemed harmful to children’s well-being. We offer qualified social workers who do not wish to work in the statutory sector with an alternative approach to practising social work where empathy, kindness and support is key to our work with families. Our ultimate aim is a reduction of children in Black and Ethnic communities going into or remaining in foster care. We offer a non oppressive and non judgemental service that helps to promote the well-being of children in safe families.
We are looking to attract a qualified social worker who supports our ethos and is willing to contribute to our work with families to protect more children in our communities.
The role is open to applicants based on London Hackney or Manchester. The role will include office and remote working as well as allocated work for home arrangements.
We are interested in applicants who reflect our service users particularly those from marginalised or minority groups, and individuals who are bi-lingual and we are particularly interested in male social workers to support our families and children.
At AFRUCA Safeguarding Children, we pride ourselves on being more than just an employer. We view our workplace as more than just a place to perform tasks; we are a community where we grow together, collaborate, and support each other. A happy staff team has been crucial to the success of AFRUCA. We believe it is essential to foster an environment where all our staff feel valued and motivated.
As an employer, we strive to do the best for our team. As such, in addition to the basic salary on offer, we provide all our staff with additional benefits including:
- Financial Wellbeing Programmes: Supporting our staff to make the most of their finances by joining our voluntary, staff-led Money Management Club.
- We pay 5% Employer Contributions into our pension scheme with a mandatory employee contribution of 3%
- Work-Life Balance: Flexible working and work from home opportunities
- Opportunities to further your social work career through gaining in-depth, specialist experience of working with Black and Ethnic families, learning about different cultural and religious practices that influence child upbringing
- 28 days Annual Leave plus all bank holidays
- AFRUCA Staff Wellbeing Day: We provide an extra paid day off with funds for you to focus on your personal well-being.
- Annual Staff Retreat: Enjoy team-building and relaxation at our yearly staff residential programme.
- Employee Assistance Programme (EAP): Access professional support for your mental health, debt management, emotional support, GP Line and legal advice lines whenever you need it.
- Cash Health Plans: Benefit from our comprehensive cash health plans and claim money back on glasses, dentist treatments and massages.
- Store and Gym Discounts: Enjoy discounts at various gyms and high street shops and supermarkets.

We set ambitious standards for how financial institutions, through their investment decisions, can protect our planet and its people and campaign for this approach to become the norm. We convene shareholders to collectively push companies to tackle the climate crisis, protect nature, improve workers’ rights and shape healthier societies. In the UK and EU, we advocate for financial regulation that has society’s best interests at its core.
What you’ll do
As part of our Health team, the Initiative Lead – Healthy Markets Initiative (HMI) is responsible for driving our health-focused campaign strategy, collaborating with institutional investors, and pushing major corporates to improve their nutritional standards and consumer health impact. This role is key to advancing corporate accountability, deepening stakeholder engagement, and integrating health as a critical aspect of responsible investment practices. The Initiative Lead plays a vital role in our projects and campaigns by refining our strategy, prioritising target companies, and leading the execution of our Healthy Markets Initiative.
A typical week will see you strategising with investors, refining the financial and moral case for corporate health improvements, leading discussions with major food and beverage companies, and drafting impactful communications to stakeholders. You’ll regularly engage with institutional investors and corporate leaders, forming strong relationships and using your expertise to influence better nutrition and health outcomes within the food and beverage sectors.
Finally, in this role, you will help ShareAction harness the power of investment to build a world where the financial system promotes health and wellbeing. By scaling up the Healthy Markets Initiative, securing long-term funding, and embedding health and nutrition as critical aspects of responsible investment, you’ll contribute to shaping a healthier, more sustainable future.
If this role sounds like something that would build on your current skill set and engage you, we’d love to hear from you!
What you’ll bring to the team
We’re looking for someone who’s passionate about holding global organisations accountable for their impact on people and the planet. If you’ve managed campaigns in public health, sustainability, or environmental issues, excel at stakeholder engagement, or have a knack for diving deep into complex challenges, we want to hear from you. This role is perfect for someone with experience in research, campaigning, or responsible investment who thrives on working with diverse stakeholders and driving meaningful change. Even if you don’t check every box, we encourage you to apply – skills are transferable, and we’re open to fresh perspectives on achieving our mission.
We are currently formalising our hybrid working policy; however, most of the Health team meets in the office on a weekly basis (and we require the team to come in at least once a month).
What we will do for you
We are a fast-paced organisation that has grown substantially over the past few years. We recognise that our people work hard to advocate for responsible investment and drive meaningful engagement with those who have the power to create a brighter future. Every day, they bring their expertise, passion and persistence to build a world where the financial system serves our people and planet. We want to ensure we provide the right environment for our colleagues to thrive, and we are committed to improving our employee offer where possible.
Currently, we are pleased to offer:
- A commitment to flexible working: over 60% of our employees have some sort of flexible working arrangement in place.
- Hybrid working: we are committed to supporting our staff to work in a way that suits their lifestyle and meets the requirements of their role.
- Internal promotion and development opportunities: we offer a range of ways to improve your skills and focus on what you love, including promotion, secondment, or sideways development opportunities. For some levels of roles, we also offer direct progression.
- The opportunity to help make a difference: we tackle some of the world’s biggest social and environmental challenges. We offer opportunities for you to develop your skills and experience in a friendly, flexible and supportive working environment.
- A unionised work environment: our staff have the opportunity to join the union and are supported by our recognised union, Unite. We regularly consult and negotiate with our employees on workplace matters ranging from working conditions to pay.
- Regular in-person meetings, including all-staff away days, retreats and directorate strategy days to create connected teams.
- 8% non-contributory pension: invested with NEST and their green funds.
- Healthcare cash plan with Westfield that gives you money back on your healthcare costs.
- Employee assistance programme: advice and support, lifestyle discounts and short-term counselling.
- 25 days’ annual leave (increasing with length of service) plus office closure at the end of the year, ensuring everyone gets time to switch off together.
- Enhanced family leave pay: up to 18 weeks paid at 90% for either parent.
- Enhanced sick pay starting at 5 weeks’ full pay from day 1.
- Season ticket loan and cycle-to-work scheme.

We are committed to having a team that is made up of diverse skills, experiences and abilities, and we are working hard to provide an environment where all can bring their authentic selves to work. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic social researcher to join our fantastic Surrey Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) team.
Based with Good Company, a local anti-poverty charity, the Community Researcher role would design and conduct research on wider determinants of health (e.g., poverty, food insecurity) and their impacts on health inequalities, with a particular focus on co-production and other forms of participatory research. The wider determinants of health are a diverse range of social, economic and environmental factors which influence people’s mental and physical health. Systematic variation in these factors constitutes social inequality, an important driver of the health inequalities.
In addition, this role would seek to increase the capacity of local voluntary sector organisations to carry out their own participatory research, as well as supporting the HDRC programme team in promoting participatory research methods across Surrey and building the local evidence base on the wider determinants of health.
There will be a second Community Researcher post based with Reigate & Banstead Council which will focus on building the participatory research capacity within the local authority.
About Surrey Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC):
This role would form part of the new and innovative Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) programme funded by the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR). The Surrey HDRC programme is delivered by Surrey County Council, University of Surrey (UoS), alongside local partners Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, Good Company and Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum (SMEF).
Surrey HDRC is designed to boost the capacity of Surrey County Council to do research, together with our communities, with the aim of improving health outcomes and reducing health inequalities in Surrey communities. Surrey HDRC will develop a sustainable research culture, build research capacity and capability, and increase our local evidence-base on wider determinants of health.
About this role:
The post holder will be based at Good Company and will work as part of the Surrey HDRC programme team, leading on participatory research and co-production. The role includes:
· Developing a programme of research on wider determinants of health inequalities, with a particular focus on co-production and other forms of participatory research.
· Strengthening the participatory and co-production research capacity across Surrey, with a particular focus on the Voluntary, Community, Faith, and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector.
· Actively supporting the wider Surrey HDRC team in promoting the value of participatory research and co-production across Surrey County Council and its partners and building the local evidence-base on the social and wider determinants of health.
The post holder should have demonstrable skills in qualitative research methods, including experience of conducting participatory research. Ideally, they will have an understanding of health inequalities and the social and wider determinants of health. Experience of working or volunteering within a community setting would also be desirable.
Applications will not be accepted without a covering letter that covers how their skills and experience meet the role.
Interviews will be in Epsom & Ewell, Surrey on Tuesday 12th November.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

We are looking for a new member of the team to lead our approach to reporting to our funders and monitoring and evaluating the impact of our portfolio of activities.
The Role
This is a new, but vital role with two major components. First, this role will lead on reporting to the Academy’s primary funders, in particular the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).
This will require gathering an overview of a very wide range of Academy activity and summarising it concisely in a way that reinforces our strong, trusted relationships with our funders.
Second, the role will lead on our culture of continuous improvement in monitoring and evaluation across the Academy, such that data and insight is used both to improve particular activities and to evolve our portfolio for greatest distinctive impact. These insights will also be an important evidence base for our future fundraising and a key input into how the Academy evolves to address its strategic vision of harnessing the power of engineering to support a sustainable society and an inclusive economy that works for everyone.
The range of the Academy’s work across talent and diversity, innovation, policy and engagement will mean that the role holder will work broadly across the whole organisation and must be confident and highly effective in engaging with experts across a wide range of activities and encouraging them on improving monitoring and evaluation practice.
The role holder must also be confident engaging with strategic leaders and supporting them to use evidence to make decisions on where to focus effort and resources. The role is structured to be flexible to be held between 0.6 and 1.0 FTE with exact responsibilities depending on working time of the successful candidate.
Who are we?
Engineering matters. It shapes our everyday lives, from our ability to turn the lights on, have a hot shower and commute into work, to the mobile phones we rely on to keep connected. It also plays a vital role in addressing some of the biggest challenges facing society today, from climate change to global health pandemics and cyber threats.
The Royal Academy of Engineering is a charity that harnesses the power of engineering to build a sustainable society and an inclusive economy that works for everyone. In collaboration with our Fellows and partners, we’re growing talent and developing skills for the future, driving innovation, and building global partnerships, and influencing policy and engaging the public. Together we’re working to tackle the greatest challenges of our age.
With a diverse workforce and an inclusive and supportive culture, we look to attract candidates from wide and different backgrounds who have a passion for the role engineering plays in society. Our aim is to make the Academy the best place to work for the staff we have and those we seek to attract.
Why work for the Royal Academy of Engineering?

The value we bring as experts in our field and change agents is highly recognised and makes the Academy a motivating place to be. About EFA
English for Action provides free, participatory, and empowering English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes for migrants in London. Our classes are spaces to build community and support students to organise collectively around issues like employment and housing rights. Our work currently supports around 400 adult migrants across London. We’ve become a national centre of good practice for a radical participatory approach to ESOL, informed by the work of Paulo Freire, and we share this approach through training, research and partnerships.
Organisation: We are a staff team of 8 people supported by a larger team of volunteers and 9 trustees. EFA promotes shared leadership and collaboration and we aim for our organisational structure to reflect this. In the last 4 years we’ve transitioned away from having a CEO to an executive team to oversee operations and decision-making. As a charity, ultimate responsibility for, and control of, the organisation lies with the Board of Trustees.
Fundraising at EFA: We have one permanent fundraiser at EFA, who works two days per week on this area of work. The majority of EFA’s funding comes from charitable trusts and foundations but we are also funded directly by some of our partner institutions to provide courses for their members. We receive some local authority/EU funding as well. We raise additional funds through individual giving, corporate relationships and earned income. We are keen to explore new areas of fundraising and/or develop some of our less well established income streams.
EFA employee benefits include:
-
Pension scheme with employer matched contribution, currently at 6%.
-
Pay rises in line with inflation wherever possible (we have a flat pay structure).
-
Tech and cycle scheme.
-
Flexible working possible based on your needs.
-
Continuous Personal Development actively encouraged and training opportunities explored.
-
Enhanced annual leave: starts with 24 days per annum pro rata, rising to 32 days per annum pro rata plus Bank Holidays (pro-rata for part-time hours) after probation, with some restrictions on when holidays must be taken.
-
Full entitlement to days off for sickness (including mental ill-health), compassionate leave, bereavement leave, and parental leave.
-
Enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental leave pay.
-
Enhanced sick pay.
-
Collaborative decision making on organisational strategy and practice.
-
Working within an organisation that makes a huge difference in communities across London and the UK.
Equal opportunities
EFA strives to apply equal opportunities principles both in its recruitment and in its work. We oppose all forms of unlawful or lawful discrimination on the grounds of colour, race, nationality, ethnic or national origin, gender, sexuality, marital status, religion, age or disability.
The successful candidate will be selected purely on the basis of how well they fit the person specification, as judged by their application materials and their interview.
We would particularly like to encourage applications from people of colour / black or brown people, who are currently underrepresented in EFA (as well as the non-profit sector as a whole). As an organisation which works with migrant ESOL learners, we also particularly welcome applications from people who have experienced moving to the UK, people who have learnt ESOL before and people who have English as an additional language.
Where two or more candidates are judged to be of equal merit, priority may be given to a candidate who belongs to a less well-represented group.
Learning language, making change - supporting migrant communities to learn English and take action for equality and social justice.
