About this exciting opportunity

This multi-faceted role will see our successful candidate support the Management Team with recruitment campaigns and the central HR colleagues with our safer recruitment processes. About the role:

The purpose of the role is to provide key administrative support to the Business Development Team. This administrative support will help the team to plan for opportunities, assess opportunities, and communicate about business development activity internally. An opportunity has arisen to lead and run our Reachout Youth project, delivering weekly groups for young people aged 13-19 who are experiencing emotional or mental health difficulties. The groups are an informal, fun, confidential space where young people can meet and chat, participate in feel good activities and receive helpful information and tools. There are two groups a week, one on Thursdays in Tunbridge Wells between 4.30pm – 6pm and another in a community venue or a school in Tunbridge Wells or Tonbridge, details to be confirmed.

You will have experience of working with young people, and the ability to facilitate groups, plan and deliver creative activities that engage young people and encourage participation. You will have excellent communication and administration skills. We are looking for someone energetic, positive, warm and welcoming, who is able to deal with challenging situations with confidence.

The role is for 13 hours per week, for delivery of the groups, dealing with referrals, client support, planning, administration and supervision. Some flexibility to work from home outside of the groups is possible, although this is an office-based role.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, deliver and continually improve a portfolio of high quality Masterclass events for founders of deep tech chemistry ventures.
• Engage with Change Makers ventures to understand their challenges and needs, and plan Masterclasses accordingly.
• Ensure the Masterclass programme is relevant, impactful, and inclusive.
• Build relationships with leaders in the Change Makers ecosystem i.e., entrepreneurs, investors, innovation partners and identify the best-in-class thinkers as Masterclass speakers.

Requirements:

• Educated to degree level or higher in chemistry or a science-related field.

• A good understanding of the UK’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, including startups, investors, funding bodies, industry, science parks and other stakeholders.

Programme Manager, Sustainable Chemistry

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) have a fantastic opportunity for two Programme Managers to join our small new team focussed on green and sustainable chemistry. The positions are for a fixed-term period of three years.

You will be joining the RSC at an exciting time as we develop our next organisational strategy. You will help shape how we build on and connect across recent work in areas like Sustainable Labs, Digital Futures, Future Workforce & Educational Pathways, Chemicals Waste & Pollution and the 25th anniversary celebration of our journal Green Chemistry.

Reporting initially to our Head of Science & Sustainability Strategy Lead, your programmes will enable us to explore and prioritise opportunities to maximise our immediate and long-term impacts in everything from sustainability conferences and communities to tools, professional development and beyond.

In this role, you will:

• Scope and prioritise RSC Sustainable Chemistry programmes e.g. convening, conferencing, developing tools, resources, standards & metrics, training and professional development, new communities.
• Work in partnership with colleagues to identify, evaluate & prioritise opportunities and impacts e.g. collaborating with Publishing, Membership, Science & Communities, Professional Development, Communications, Marketing, Data Science & Insights, Product Management and Business Development.
• Build partnerships in the UK and internationally with organisations that share our commitment to driving and supporting sustainability in science e.g. research funders, sister societies, sustainability-focussed for- and not-for-profits, universities, chemistry-using businesses, and their suppliers.
• Develop effective relationships with our member and journal communities to align with their passion and expertise in achieving green & sustainable chemistry goals.
• Develop and deliver Sustainable Chemistry projects and programmes
• Track and report impacts, and contribute to a culture of continual improvement and innovation

At the RSC we embrace flexibility and offer hybrid working, which means our teams come together when they need to collaborate. Although this role is contractually based at our Cambridge office, you will be able to work from home within the UK, with the expectation that you will attend the office a minimum of average two days per week initially, with some travel for meetings and events. What we are looking for:

• PhD or equivalent in chemistry or a broadly related science and engineering area, or equivalent experience working in science labs or on science-related projects, publishing, funding or community engagement.
• Passion for science and for sustainability with some specific sustainability-related experience, ideally in a science R&D context.
• Ability to leverage quantitative and qualitative data to make informed product & programme decisions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Initiative to seek knowledge and input when that will deliver the best results.
• Can-do, flexible attitude with a focus on solutions and progress, including listening to others and taking the initiative in ambiguous and changing situations.

• Be able and willing to work in Prisons and YOIs
• An empathetic and understanding approach when working with candidates.
• A good understanding of the barriers faced by people with convictions in accessing employment.
• An interest in employment, The Local Labour Market and Industry trends.
• Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels, including the ability to motivate and inspire others.
• Strong administration skills with IT (MS Office) and well organised
• You will have strong writing skills and will be able to write good CV’s and Disclosure Letters.

Although not essential, experience of Recruitment or Case Management would be desirable.
