The Role 
 
As our Policy Officer you will use the latest evidence and insight to drive the creation of policies and position statements and related key messages. The subject of these will be informed by the charity’s strategy as well as our priority setting processes but will largely be focused around: 

• Prevention - Reducing smoking rates particularly focusing on people who are already interacting with the health system, as well as other messaging around reducing risk of cancer. 

• Diagnosis - Improving the early diagnosis of cancer through promoting existing and new pathways for cancer diagnosis.

• Treatment - Improving treatments available to patients across Yorkshire and improving access to clinical trials. 

Specifically, you will: 

Policy development 

• Work with the Policy and Public Affairs Manager to research and produce high quality, evidence-based cancer-related policies and position statements.

• Work with relevant internal teams to create key messages for a range of internal and external stakeholders, ensuring these are in line with the latest evidence. 

• Ensure existing policies and position statements are kept up to date, taking ownership for these updates when new evidence is published. 

Influencing 

• Develop written policy materials and reports to aid influencing, considering priorities identified by PPI groups, the NHS, and coupled with insights from the latest data. 

• Support the charity’s response to regional and national consultations relevant to cancer in Yorkshire, ensuring responses are clear, succinct and evidence-based.

• Represent the charity at external events and meetings, developing contacts, building relationships and increasing the charity’s profile. 

External communications 

• Work in collaboration with the Brand and Relationships team to support the delivery of public-facing brand and PR campaigns and messaging to ensure key policy messages are accurate and well-integrated.

• Support idea generation, development and delivery of future public health campaigns where the focus could be on topics like screening, stopping smoking or cancer symptom awareness. 

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To have a degree in a relevant subject area, for example politics and government affairs, public policy etc.  

• To have experience of researching and writing evidence-based policies, including by conducting literature reviews.

• To have experience of writing associated policy documentation such as briefings, letters, blogs and campaign materials.

• To have experience of working with others to integrate key messages into external communications, such as blogs, press releases or campaigns. 

• To have a good understanding of a good understanding of local, regional, and national government, the current health policy landscape as well as knowledge of UK parliamentary processes.   

• To have excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills. 

• To be a strategic thinker with strong analytical, judgement and decision-making skills. 

• To be able to sift out the essential elements from a mass of complex information, integrate and synthesise ideas, and present information to others in an accessible way.  

• To have excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise work, handle conflicting demands and meet tight deadlines.

About the role
The NextGen Community Producer will play an integral role at Youth Music shaping and developing our support for young adults, particularly helping them to close the gap between learning and earning in music.

You’ll join us at an exciting time as we look to scale up and enhance our community engagement efforts. Building on the foundations established in phase 1 between 2021-2024, your focus will be on increasing participation, and fostering a more cohesive and active community. Your innovative strategies and passion for supporting young creatives will be key to driving deeper connections among members, and creating a compelling offer for the community.

Day-to-day you’ll be programming national events, workshops and networking opportunities; brokering progression opportunities though Youth Music’s industry partners, and recruiting to paid freelance creative roles. The job will involve managing a variety of relationships with young people, playing a central role in developing and leading the NextGen community strategy, and supporting the development of a new brand and user journey for NextGen community members.

Key responsibilities
Programme Development

• Act as the day-to-day lead and point of contact for the Youth Music NextGen Community, representing their voice internally and externally.
• Devise and implement a clear strategy for the continued growth and development of the NextGen Community, with support from the Engagement team.
• Deliver impactful programmes of activities and support that will progress young people into creative careers, broaden their networks, increase their confidence and create access to new opportunities.
• Develop and grow the NextGen Community brand and visual identity, ensuring a clear offer and user journey for those taking part in Youth Music funded projects, and other potential new members.
• Increase the role the community plays in designing and delivering the NextGen programme, aligning with Youth Music’s wider aims and values around youth voice.
• Increase interaction between NextGen Community members.

Events

• Work with the events team to develop, grow and manage our programme of regular NextGen Community events across the country to bring the community together and showcase their talent.
• Develop and manage our programme of events in London in partnership with Young Guns Network (YGN), taking place in the offices of our music industry partners.
• Grow attendance at all NextGen events, working with our Comms and Marketing team to increase awareness and build the profile of the event series.
• Programme and manage all events within set budgets.

Partnerships

• Build and leverage relationships with partners and networks to enhance the offer for the NextGen Community (such as events, performance opportunities, workshops, studio time, content creation, and exclusive offers etc).
• Manage relationships with key corporate partners (such as Levi’s) to support delivery of the NextGen Community activities.
• Build and maintain a pipeline of potential partners to approach, and support wider fundraising efforts within the team.

Recruitment

• Lead on NextGen recruitment for NextGen Community Events and the Youth Music Awards, with support from the Engagement Coordinator. e.g. Create briefs for NextGen roles and be their main point of contact.
• Support recruitment for any other Youth Music or partner opportunities created for the NextGen Community. (e.g. gigs, festivals, activations, focus groups, etc).
• Develop the NextGen talent pool, finding new ways to promote and manage this.
• Create and source relevant national music-related opportunities for Youth Music’s ‘opportunities board’.

NextGen Fund

• Support the marketing and promotion of the NextGen Fund.
• Contribute and support NextGen Fund decision panels.
• Work with our Comms team to ensure that content created through the NextGen Fund is showcased on Youth Music’s social and digital channels. E.g. Sound of the Next Generation playlist.

Demonstrate Impact

• Work with the Insights Team to listen and act on feedback from the NextGen Community. This will be via monitoring, research and consultation that informs the ongoing development and design of the NextGen offer.
• Prepare and present reports on the plans, activities and impact of NextGen Community.
• Share our learning internally and externally at panels, conferences, and through written pieces.

Systems and processes

• Capture NextGen membership on Salesforce so that we have a clear understanding of who is in our community.
• Work with the Database Administrator to improve our systems, processes and user journeys.
• Work with the Comms and Marketing team to ensure the Youth Music website represents and serves the needs of the NextGen Community.

Other

• Ensure all activities are delivered in line with Youth Music’s values with inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility at their core.
• Be a safeguarding champion, ensuring best practice Safeguarding is embedded throughout our work and all issues and concerns are escalated as appropriate.

The organisation has an ambitious strategy to ensure that #NoMaleSurvivorsIsLeftBehind and is looking for a special member of staff to help us achieve this, on a temporary basis to cover Maternity Leave.

You will help us to provide key services across Greater Manchester. The Community Team is made of therapists and Community Development Workers to support men and boys to access the services they need.

Role Purpose To manage specific services and teams, ensuring the provision of quality assured support services to male survivors and their loved ones. This role will be up to 12 months providing Maternity Cover to the existing Service Manager.

Job Purpose:

We need a hands-on flexible administrator to provide general administrative support to WIP’s Core team; you will ensure the smooth running of WIPs London office in Shoreditch; you will also be providing administrative support to projects as and when required.

Administrative Support

• Act as a point of contact for Women in Prisons Core Team including monitoring and responding to communications in shared mailboxes

• To support with Women in Prisons telephone line and ensure any answer machine messages are passed on the relevant team

• Administrative support as needed to Women in Prison’s Core team which could include booking meetings, note taking and support with paperwork

The Live Fear Free Helpline is an award-winning, 24-hour helpline for survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, and all other forms of violence against women in Wales. We provide a listening and signposting service to survivors, family, friends, and professionals. In addition to our phone service, we also provide help and support via email, text message and web chat.

Closing date: 15th July 2024 

Interviews:  24th & 25th July 2024. Interviews will be held in person at our office in Penygroes, near Caernarfon. 

The successful candidate will be a member of the Helpline team, reporting to our Helpline Team Leader As part of the job, you will: 

Respond to enquiries to the Live Fear Free Helpline received by phone, email, webchat or text to:

• Provide a confidential information and signposting service to anyone experiencing domestic abuse, sexual violence and/or any other form of violence against women, and to those  

• contacting the service on their behalf.

• Evaluate and respond to need, and minimise risk to those experiencing domestic abuse, sexual violence, or other forms of violence against women.

• Refer service users to appropriate support services making use of the established referral pathways.

Full training will be provided.

As part of this role, you will be expected to work shifts on a 24-hour rota. Weekend and night shifts are a necessary part of the role.
