The National Kidney Federation (NKF) is a unique, independent UK charitable organisation run by kidney patients for kidney patients. They are seeking an exceptional Policy and Public Affairs Manager to help shape and deliver an exciting programme of work that tackles the challenges of renal disease head-on. As a senior appointment, this role will raise the scale, effectiveness, and profile of their policy and public affairs work.

About the Role:
You'll build on current policy initiatives, leveraging the knowledge of our team, trustees, and professional networks, while collaborating with 50 Kidney Patient Association members. You'll have the freedom to shape and implement their programme of work, working strategically and independently to enhance NKF's impact on patient support, campaigning, and public life.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead NKF's policy and public affairs activities, reporting to the Chief Executive.
• Develop and implement strategies to tackle the challenges of kidney disease.
• Collaborate with internal teams, trustees, and external stakeholders to drive impactful campaigns.
• Represent NKF in public policy discussions, including parliamentary groups, ensuring our voice is heard at the highest levels.
• Contribute to strategic planning and hands-on delivery within a small, collaborative team.

About the Youth Endowment Fund 

We’re here to prevent children from becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to change things.  

In recent years, violent crime involving children has increased. This is a tragedy. Every child is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them.

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment that exists to reverse this trend. We will achieve this by finding out what works to prevent youth violence and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice. We do this by funding, evaluating and then spreading the very best work on reducing youth violence across England and Wales. 

Key Responsibilities 

Your focus will be to ensure that the office environment at YEF is a welcoming and inclusive one, being the first point of contact for new starters, employees and external stakeholders. You will be dedicated, in ensuring that the office environment is set up for employees to have a positive, collaborative and engaging experience while working from the office. With key responsibilities for general HR administration, office management and supporting with the coordination of our team culture work, you will naturally enjoy having variety within your day-to-day work and proactively seek solutions to aid better efficient and effective management of our daily HR and operations.

Office Management 

Ensure the physical and virtual spaces in which we work at YEF are excellently managed and a welcoming place to work. This would include: 

• Being a strong and personable office lead. Be welcoming to colleagues new and old and make an ongoing effort to integrate them into the team. 

• Ensuring that the office space is well managed including well stocked office supplies and refreshments. 

• Leading monthly social team activities that foster a sense of belonging. 

• Ensuring we have the systems to make collaboration really easy, liaising directly with our IT supplier and pointing out areas of improvement or discussing how things can be done better. 

HR administration 

Help ensure that projects related to HR or supporting people are done brilliantly. This may require you getting stuck in with some administrative tasks or keeping track of who needs to do what by when. 

• Helping to organise the annual appraisal of staff (setting up and collecting in forms and making sure everyone knows what’s going on) so that everyone learns and develops. 

• Making sure the online system we use for employee records is up to date, well organised and that someone technical fixes things if needed.

• Ensuring that the policies we have (on things like pay, holidays, being in the office etc). are easy for staff to find and that someone is prompted to remind staff about them regularly. 

• Coming to know our staff policies inside out, so that staff can go to you to get a question answered. 

Help us recruit brilliant people by:

• Supporting the administration of the end-to-end recruitment process, such advertising jobs online, arranging interviews, managing candidate correspondences and the keeping up to date records. 

• Assisting in the first phase of CV reviews (spotting great people). 

• Organising and managing all new starter documentation, such as; right to work, references, issuing of an employee contract and DBS’s (where appropriate) 

• Ensuring new staff have the right equipment and IT on day one. Being the go-to person for their administrative questions. 

• Onboarding new team members on our office space and IT systems 

General administration 

Make sure some of most important meetings are incredibly effective. You’ll do this by 

• Organising those meetings (booking rooms, inviting people), taking great minutes, making sure we keep track of things we said we would do and saving the documents in the right place.

• Working really well with colleagues to organise documents and information for reports. 

• Supporting people, you work most closely with (the wider operations team) on some of the more important processes, including audits and document maintenance. 

Team Culture 

You will be passionate about supporting to maintain a strong values-led team culture and able to demonstrate what that means.

• Supporting our Culture Lead to prepare and deliver excellently planned and engaging quarterly team away days. This includes visiting event spaces, managing catering and providing excellent support on the day – including activities. 

• Organising onboarding schedules and ensuring smooth delivery of sessions. 

• Noticing when colleagues are less well connected to the team and working with the Culture Lead to support their integration.

About the role

The role-holder will have experience working according to ethical and good practice safeguarding principles. How Will you Make a Difference?  

The Executive Assistant (EA) will provide high-level administrative support to Amna’s CEO, Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Board of Trustees. This includes administrative help such as managing calendars, drafting communications and briefings, planning, and organising meetings, inbox support, travel, office administration and personal assistance. It also includes working on and managing special projects including research, data analysis, preparation for public speaking, writing and research. 

This dynamic and creative position requires the ability to anticipate needs, think critically, and offer solutions to problems with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills including strong written and verbal skills, the ability to work with little supervision, and manage simultaneous priorities within the leadership team.

The role holder will report to the CEO. 

Key areas of responsibilities: 

CEO/SLT Support 

• Work closely with the CEO to keep them well informed of upcoming commitments and responsibilities, following up appropriately. Act as a "barometer", staying attuned to the internal and external environment and keeping the CEO updated on relevant issues. 

• Anticipate the needs of the CEO and SLT in advance of meetings, conferences, and public appearances. 

• Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external constituencies on all matters pertaining to the CEO and SLT team, including those of a highly confidential or critical nature. 

• Liaise between the CEO and SLT to ensure regular communications and smooth decision-making. 

• Provide sophisticated calendar management for Amna’s CEO and the SLT. Prioritize inquiries and requests while troubleshooting conflicts and exercising tact; make judgements and recommendations to ensure smooth day-to-day engagements. 

• Prioritize and determine appropriate course of action, referral, or response, exercising judgement to reflect CEO’s and SLT members style and Amna’s values and policies. 

• Work with the Senior Leadership Team to coordinate the CEO’s outreach activities. Follow up on contacts made by the CEO to cultivate ongoing relationships. 

• Writing and managing documentation and data sets for the CEO and SLT as needed, including briefing papers, correspondence and talking points. 

• Leading and managing special projects including research for Amna’s, CEO’s and SLT’s contribution to future books, podcasts and articles. 

• Maintain an organized filing system for documents, records, and correspondence related to the CEO, SLT and board. 

Admin and travel management

• Assist in the preparation and execution of organizational events. 

• Research and propose the most efficient and cost-effective travel options, including flights, trains, and accommodations.

Board support 

• Manage due diligence and onboarding processes for new Trustees, ensuring compliance and accurate record-keeping. 

• Organize tailored training sessions for Board members. 

• Maintain up-to-date records of Board members, including contact information, terms of service, and compliance documents. 

• Assist Board members with travel expense claims and ensure accurate processing. 

• Compile, organize, and distribute materials for Board meetings, including reports and presentations. 

• Edit and format Board papers to ensure consistency and professionalism. 

• Coordinate logistics for Board meetings, including scheduling, venue arrangements, and required technology or equipment. 

• Attend Board meetings to provide administrative support, take minutes, and document actions and decisions. Distribute minutes promptly and track follow-up actions. 

• Develop and implement comprehensive induction plans for new Trustees. 

• Facilitate introductions and provide orientation materials to integrate new Board members effectively. 

Governance and Compliance 

• Support the CEO and committee chairs in adhering to the organization’s governance framework. 

• Maintain a centralized, up-to-date register of governance documents for easy access by senior staff and Trustees. 

• Ensure the organization complies with GDPR regulations in relation to all Board activities. 

• Work with the CEO and Chair to ensure the Board is informed about safeguarding practices and remains accountable. 

• Support emerging governance practices and Trustee development in partnership with the CEO and Chair. 

• Plan and execute Trustees’ regulatory obligations, including registering them with appropriate bodies. 

  Qualifications and Experience:  

• Minimum of 4-7 years of progressively responsible and diversified administrative experience, experience as an Executive Assistant or similar role. 

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders. 

• Excellent research skills and experience in writing briefing papers 

• Exceptional organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail. 

• Ability to work both independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices. 

• Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office and desktop publishing software; ability to design and edit graphic presentations and materials. 

• Able to maintain a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information. 

• Demonstrable commitment to Amna values and mission. 

• Legal understanding or experience with the Charity Commission is preferred.

The role

•  A degree level qualification or equivalent professional experience in Careers Guidance or directly relevant field
• Proven experience in a leadership role within education, careers services, or employer engagement
• In-depth understanding of the Gatsby Benchmarks, Provider Access Legislation, and the CDI framework
• Experience in managing large-scale careers programmes and delivering measurable improvements
• A track record of successful partnership building with employers, training providers, and external stakeholders
• Experience of leading, developing, and managing a team

We have a fantastic opportunity available for a Regional Fundraiser to join our rewarding and growing team. This is an exciting role, which would suit someone looking to build and develop their relationship fundraising or broaden their sector experience in a major national charity.

From multi-year partnerships and supporters, right through to managing volunteers and raising awareness in our communities, the team you join is talented, fast-paced and on a mission to create a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.  The successful candidate will be able to deliver first-class relationship and account management, maximising retention as well as driving opportunities to secure new income within Kent (from prospecting through to pitch development and delivery).
Our team have a wealth of experience and skills to support you and being a team player is essential. Recruiting, managing, and appreciating the value of our supporters and volunteers is essential. You need to inspire and motivate them to develop lifelong support.

This is a homeworking role and you will be required to regularly travel across Kent to meet supporters and also occasionally attend internal meetings at locations across the country including our flagship offices (London, Birmingham, Warrington and Belfast). You must reside in the UK and have the correct right to work documents to work in the UK.

- Experience in relationship and community fundraising or ability to demonstrate transferrable skills.
- Good understanding of budgeting and financial management
- Experience in identifying and acquiring new business opportunities.
- Experience in delivering excellent supporter stewardship and/or customer care.
