About the role

The Finance Manager plays a pivotal role as a key advisor to the CEO, SMT and Board of Trustees, providing professional insights into financial matters to support effective planning and decision making. Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Monthly/Quarterly reconciliation of balance sheet and Profit & Loss accounts.

As part of our succession planning, Number Champions is recruiting a CEO to take on all management of the charity and to help the board define and deliver its strategy. This will be our most senior staff position.

Background - Number Champions

We train volunteers to use games and other creative activities in primary schools in one-to-one sessions with children to help them gain confidence and skills in maths. This support helps put children on track to achieve their full potential in a world where numeracy is a vital building block. Over half the children we support are from disadvantaged backgrounds, which is where the need is greatest.

Founded in 2018, we have already helped over 1,500 children. We now have 115 volunteers running weekly sessions. This year they are helping 334 children in 38 partner schools across London, and we plan to continue to grow organically every year to support more children.

Our vision is not just that we grow in scale, but that through our example other organisations copy our model, and that eventually all primary school children will have access to volunteer support in maths.

CEO role

The CEO will be a new permanent role, reporting to our founder Chair and to the board of trustees. You will take on all aspects of managing our award-winning charity and drive the board process of setting and delivering strategy. This will include financial management of the charity and involvement in fundraising. This is in the context of our succession plan, whereby our Chair will hand over the executive responsibilities which he currently exercises on a pro bono basis. This is to allow us to recruit a new Chair within two years.

You will line manage the Head of Operations - our current senior employee, who manages our other two staff. The role will be part time for the equivalent of 3 days a week.

Location

You will work mainly remotely, although you will be expected to attend periodic meetings in London. We therefore require candidates to live within commuting distance of Central London, giving maximum flexibility for both the employee and the charity.

Person specification

Candidates must be able to show previous success as a member of the Senior Leadership Team of a charity. You should be a collaborative worker able to build productive working relationships with people throughout the charity and beyond. As continuing our growth is a strategic goal, we need you to have experience in marketing.

Rainbow Migration is the longest-running charity in Europe dedicated to supporting LGBTQI+ people through the asylum and immigration system and has been campaigning for their rights since 1993. We are recruiting for an Operations Officer to play a key role in supporting the effective day-to-day operations of the organisation.

This is an exciting time to join the organisation. We have grown rapidly in recent years from a small charity generating £200k income in 2019 to £1M in 2024. We are now expanding our operations team to support the larger staff team and delivery of our strategy.

Role overview

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week). Working part-time (minimum 21 hours) will be considered. Occasional work in the evenings and at weekends may be required but with plenty of notice. Rainbow Migration encourages staff to maintain a good work life balance and has a TOIL system in place.

Salary: Starting at £31,294 with potential annual step increases up to £35,086 (pro rata if working part time), plus statutory employer’s pension contribution. In addition to an annual step increase, we consider giving a separate inflationary increase every April.

Location: Rainbow Migration’s wheelchair accessible offices are located between Vauxhall and the Oval, London. This role will have an office-based contract but the postholder can choose to work from home for part of the week in agreement with their line manager as per our hybrid working policy. Create has just entered Year Five of its ambitious seven-year strategy to double its reach/impact by the charity’s 25th anniversary in 2028. As the charity progresses into this critical phase of development, we have been awarded a major (£320k) grant to support capacity building. This will enable the further implementation of Salesforce as the charity’s CRM, focusing on the project management and finance functions of operation, transforming efficiency and reducing administrative strain. This will be achieved by creating the position of Technical Project Lead to project manage and oversee implementation of Salesforce; increasing capacity in the finance team by appointing a Finance Manager; and implementing new cloud-based financial accounting software to work alongside Salesforce. This is an incredibly exciting time to join the charity and make your mark.

The Director of Finance & Operations will direct, administer and coordinate the financial, governance, HR, IT and operational activities of the charity in accordance with company policies and the Strategic Plan established by the Chief Executive (CE) and the Board of Trustees, and to assure the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of the planning, delivery and reporting of these activities.

Salary: £46,000-£51,000 per annum depending on experience.

Our COO is a pivotal role – a similar role has not existed within our organisation for five years, during which time our income has increased from £4.5 million to over £6 million and rising. As our COO, you’ll be a member of the Trust’s Senior Leadership Team with day-to-day overall leadership responsibility for finance, people, organisational development, impact measurement and governance.

• Support the CEO in ensuring the Trust’s good governance, including planning and preparation for Board and subcommittee meetings, and broader Trustee engagement including recruitment and away days
• Working closely with the CEO and SLT, take ownership of the development and implementation of the Trust’s 5yr strategic business plan ensuring regular review of financial progress and high-quality reporting to the Board
• Lead on risk management, business continuity and crisis management including resilience planning and developing contingency procedures
• Lead, develop and manage the Central Services team including two direct reports: Head of Finance and Head of People & Organisational Development
• Act as the Trust’s Health and Safety lead by taking a proactive approach to oversight and monitoring of the Trust’s H&S management systems and processes

Our ideal Chief Operating Officer

• Senior level experience in an organisation with responsibility for developing, implementing and reviewing financial and strategic business plans
• Strong strategic finance and financial forecasting experience including working knowledge of charity SORP accounting, VAT, Gift Aid and balance of restricted and unrestricted income
• Proven skill and confidence in building, working with and interpreting complex financial spreadsheets and data; including the ability to model different financial scenarios and communicate effectively both with qualified finance professionals and non-finance colleagues
• Experience of working collaboratively to set and monitor organisational budgets and income targets, ensuring that accountability is embedded throughout the organisation and supporting organisational growth
• Commercial acumen, including a track record in identifying, developing and supporting successful and sustainable commercial operations within an organisation
• Demonstrable experience of overseeing the collation, analysis and communication of data to produce internal and external evaluations and reports
