Salary: £28,000 - £31,000 (pro rata)

Location: Hammersmith (with possible co-location with key partners)

Hours:   28 OR 35 Hours per week

About the role:

The Specialist Housing Advocate will work within a dynamic, fast paced team to provide intervention, advocacy and support that empowers women and ensures that the voice of survivors informs every stage of their journey towards improved safety. This is a new and exciting service, and we are looking for someone passionate about ensuring that all survivors of domestic abuse are able to access safe and appropriate accommodation which meets their needs.

To be successful as Specialist Housing Advocate you will need the below experience and skills:

You will have an excellent understanding of domestic abuse and its effects on survivors and their children, and of best practice within the domestic abuse and housing sectors. You will be skilled in risk management and safety planning, remaining calm in a crisis and in handling sensitive information on a daily basis. The post holder will hold a caseload of survivors and will also be required to support Advance’s duty team on a rota basis which will involve completing intake assessments and providing crisis intervention support.

About Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone:

Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone is a 21st century youth hub located at the heart of Blackburn and a dedicated site in Darwen, open to young people aged 5 to 25 years old, aiming to change the prospects offered to young people in the area. Our vision is to be at the heart of the community, collaborating to create a more cohesive and prosperous Blackburn and Darwen.

We are one of the leading youth organisations in Blackburn, with a membership of over 2,500 young people. We are open 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year and offer over 40 different activities and opportunities in our open access youth club.

Context of Role:

The Youth Club Coordinator role is a crucial role within our mission of making sure B&DYZ is “the Number One Service for young people”. You will be responsible for the coordination, leadership, planning and delivery of Darwen Youth Zone Youth Club provision for young people aged 13 to 19 years (21 with a disability). Working positively, collaboratively and at pace with an enthusiastic and energetic youth work team, you will ensure our programme and offer for young people is of high quality, meets the needs of every young person in Blackburn with Darwen and ensures our offer reflects and exceeds on the wishes, needs and views of young people.

You will hold line management responsibility seeking to ensure that there is strong evidence of effective performance in line with our vision, mission, values and strategic objectives. The role will require you to have previous experience within a youth work setting and strong evidence of excellent safeguarding knowledge and practice.

Responsibilities:

Service:

• To ensure that the offer for young people is the best possible service, ensuring there is a diverse range of activities that create opportunities and encourage young people to participate and have a go at new things.
• To work towards agreed targets including attendance, participation, progression, impact and evaluation and key performance indicators.
• Ensure the programmes meet the needs of existing and new members, engages a diverse range of young people from across BwD and support their active participation and promote their retention
• Maintain a good understanding of the young people we work with, their issues and challenges and the complexities of delivering in a large open access setting through direct work with young people during sessions and through good communication with the team.
• To ensure that the youth work delivery is carried out in a planned, systematic coordinated way and evaluated.
• To deal with any problems during the sessions and to provide appropriate intervention while advocating for all young people and ensure young people receive appropriate support

Leadership and management skills:

As Scientific and Patient Information Manager, you will work in the Medical Education and Scientific Engagement team at Myeloma Patients Europe. Under the Department Head and MPE Leadership Team, you will oversee the following projects and activities:

European Myeloma and AL Amyloidosis Clinical Trial Navigator Management (Approximately 50%)

MPE has developed an online clinical trial search tool of European myeloma and AL amyloidosis clinical trials for patients and advocates (https:// navigator.mpeurope. org/en). This role will be responsible for the management, improvement, and promotion of this core MPE programme, including:

• Maintain up-to-date and accurate database of all industry and academic recruiting myeloma, AL amyloidosis, MGUS, and smouldering myeloma clinical trials in Europe
• Liaise with industry and academic clinical trial sponsors, clinical trial sites, and other stakeholders to maintain database up-to-date
• Liaise with web developers to manage the Navigator website, make enhancements, and fix technical issues 
• Oversee implementation of translated materials in multiple languages
• Elicit feedback from patients, family members, clinicians and other stakeholders to ensure continued improvement and enhancements
• Manage website news and content

Patient Education Management (Approximately 40%)

A key role of MPE is providing up-to-date, comprehensive, and patient friendly educational materials and tools for our members and the patient community, as well as communicating about advances in myeloma and AL amyloidosis. This role will be responsible for working across MPE to develop an educational plan and develop and deliver resources including:

• Perform efficient scientific watch (monitoring advancements in research and clinical development)
• In coordination with the Head of Medical Education and Scientific Engagement, as well as other department Heads (Patient Research, Access and Policy, Communication, Capacity Building and Advocacy), develop and prioritise a patient educational plan based on member and patient needs, scientific advances and cross-department projects
• Research, write, and develop patient education materials including factsheets, Q&As, webinars, infographics, news stories and social media content related to clinical and scientific updates
• Attending (in person or virtually) scientific congresses and developing conference and scientific meeting summaries, organising post-conference webinars for patients in collaboration with the Communication department
• Manage the execution of educational materials from conception to publication in coordination with Department Head, other MPE departments, and external stakeholders (key opinion leaders, proofreaders etc.)

Patient and member support (Approximately 5%)

• Answer medical and scientific inquiries from patients, carers and MPE members
• Seek information by liaising with appropriate stakeholders (industry, academia, MPE Medical Advisory Committee)
• Build good relationships with MPE’s members

Other 5%  -  staff meetings, annual events, support the rest of the team with clinical and scientific information.

About you

Essential

• A Bachelor’s or a Master’ s degree in a relevant scientific field
• Minimum of four years of relevant experience
• Demonstrable experience (and tested during the interview process) of writing and communicating scientific/complex information for lay audiences across different media
• Ability to understand, read and process complex scientific information (from clinical trials, scientific papers etc)
• Excellent capacity for analysis and communicating (verbally and in writing) clearly for a range of different audiences
• Demonstrable project management experience
• Excellent level of both written and spoken English
• Excellent communication and presentation skills

About MPE

Myeloma Patients Europe (MPE) is a pan-European organisation representing 50+ myeloma and amyloidosis patient groups from over 30+ European countries. It is registered as an international non-profit organisation under Belgian Law. A Board mainly composed of patients and caregivers is elected by the membership to oversee the strategy and governance of the organisation. A team of 10+ staff members runs remotely the day to day operations, programmes and services within 4 divisions: Access and Policy, Medical Education and Scientific Engagement, Capacity Building and Advocacy, and Patient Evidence.

About the Role

The Head of Unlawful Detentions is responsible for overseeing Reprieve’s work on unlawful detentions, which comprises detention cases in North East Syria (NES), advocacy work with families of detainees in NES, support to those repatriated from NES, and our Guantánamo and Life after Guantánamo Projects.

Reprieve was one of the very first organisations allowed inside Guantánamo. Since then, we have secured freedom for more than 80 men illegally detained without charge or trial, and we continue to support some of these men through our Life After Guantánamo project.

Reprieve also advocates for the release and repatriation of foreign nationals detained in camps and prisons in NES. We aim to ensure that detained individuals are treated in line with international law, and not subjected to the death penalty, extrajudicial execution, arbitrary detention, torture, or rendition. We also advocate for and support clients and their children after their release from arbitrary detention.

Through our work we aim to challenge and change flawed ‘War on Terror’ narratives and legal and political frameworks – including in the UK, Europe and the US – that engender state-sanctioned discrimination and abuse, undermine the rule of law and human rights, and create two-tiered layers of citizenship rights for ethnic minorities in Western countries.

About You

You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies using a dynamic approach in which each of Reprieve’s methodologies—casework, investigation, litigation, political and public engagement, support for and (where possible and appropriate) advocacy with affected communities—connect with one another to achieve positive outcomes in individual client’s cases and address structural rights violations.

You will be enthusiastic about working for an organisation with Reprieve's mission and vision. You will have a minimum of five years’ experience line managing busy and diverse teams. You have significant legal and casework experience and experience managing a complex portfolio of cases. You will also have substantial advocacy experience, an understanding of campaigning, strong writing skills, and excellent attention to detail. 

You are a person with a high level of cultural competency, with direct lived or working experience with communities impacted by the so-called ‘War on Terror’ and/or relevant conflicts. You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of how racism and institutional discrimination affect our clients. You will ideally have experience working closely with clients, empowering them to play an active role in designing the advocacy and strategy adopted to address issues in their cases.  You will have sensitivity to the risks faced by those with whom we work and a demonstrated commitment to acting in the best interest of clients. You will have professional maturity, flexibility, and a willingness to put clients and Reprieve’s mission above all else.

In addition to being conversant in relevant legal systems, you are abreast of the domestic, regional, and geopolitical developments that impact on detention issues in the areas in which we work. You will also have a good understanding of the political and legal context of human rights violations carried out in the name of ‘counter-terrorism’, particularly in the UK, Europe, and the US, and of gender and trafficking issues. You will have the ability to develop targeted strategies to influence the policies and public conversations in these jurisdictions.

Salary, contract and location

The role is a full-time, permanent position with a salary of £59,226 per annum less any required deductions for tax and national insurance. Reprieve works across a number of jurisdictions; as such this is a role that may require work outside of core hours from time to time.

About the role
We are seeking a Partnership Manager experienced in winning, developing and managing funding relationships (trust and foundations, corporate and paid delivery partnerships). 
Reporting to the Director of Income Generation, HFTF’s Partnership Manager will be an integral part of the Fundraising team responsible for growing and managing our partnerships, driving the charity forward, increasing impact, securing increasing and sustainable funding and engaging increasingly wider and more diverse segments of society, in our work - equipping citizens across the UK with the tools they need to have effective and impactful conversations with their local politicians on climate change and nature.

Job summary 

We are currently seeking to appoint an inspirational and enthusiastic Education Coordinator, passionate about community-based learning to join our small and friendly team. The Education Coordinator will be responsible for the delivery and development of all aspects of the work of the adult and family learning programme and will have the opportunity to develop other provision at the centre. Our adult learning programme supports over 250 local adults each year through a range of programmes designed to improve their English language, digital and maths skills and increase their employability and involvement in the community. Our family learning programme supports over 200 children with online after-school classes in Maths, English and Science. You would also be responsible for coordinating 6 teachers remotely to deliver weekly online after-school classes for Year 3 to Year 9 in all three subjects. We also deliver a range of informal family learning provision across our Family Programme services to over 1000 users, and some of these programmes may be included in our Adult Education offer and so you will be required to support with the administration of these activities. 

The Education Coordinator will be based at our centre at 2 Thorpe Close W10 5XL and will have responsibility for working with the heads of departments, tutors and education administrator, to plan and deliver the learning programme. The successful candidate will have a full UK teaching qualification in the Further Education sector, and delivery of FSE/ESOL at various levels would be desirable; have excellent leadership and inter-personal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; be highly organised and efficient.

The salary is £33,500 per annum and in addition to bank holidays we offer 25 days’ annual leave, additional Christmas time leave, a pension scheme, cycle to work scheme and a comprehensive training programme.

The employment is subject to a probational period of twenty-six weeks from your start date of employment with Nova, during which time you will be required to demonstrate to the leadership team’s satisfaction your suitability for the position in which you are employed.

Responsibilities/ Core duties:  

• To organise, administer and develop all aspects of the learning programme and achieve given targets for retention, achievement, pass rates and other set KPIs in all curriculum areas, including Adult Education and children’s after-school classes delivered by our Family Programme. 

• To overview the accredited and non-accredited learning courses and develop curricula as appropriate. 

• To organise appropriate accreditation in each curriculum area and ensure that the requirements of the awarding body/ies are met as an internal verifier, and ensure that all paperwork meets the required standard of the awarding body/ies. 

• To ensure that the RARPA process is fully implemented. 

• To ensure compliance with OFSTED rules and procedures. 

• To plan progression routes into further learning or employment. 

• To work within the agreed departmental budgets and targets set by funders. 

• To manage the teachers and tutors, including regular observations, performance management and professional support, including children’s teachers delivering after-school classes remotely. 

• To identify and assess the continuous professional development needs of tutors and organise and facilitate education team meetings, including the Family Programme children’s teachers. 

• To keep up to date with national and regional developments in adult learning and cascade the information appropriately. 

• To plan and monitor the programme of courses in each area of the curriculum including liaison and/or partnership with other organisations, timetabling, holiday cover, including the Family Programme after school classes for children. 

• To oversee volunteer tutors to include monitoring, feedback and follow-up and ensure the line managers are assigned for specific subjects, including volunteer online classroom assistants or teachers for the Family Programme. 

• To maintain a Tutor Area on Share Point with examples of best practice and practical tips and advice for both Adult Education and Family Programme. 

• To ensure compliance with all necessary regulations and legal requirements, including Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety and Safeguarding of vulnerable groups. 

• To oversee internal and external data input and use data on enrolment, retention and achievement to monitor and plan provision. 

• To monitor and report on Children’s classroom attendance and learning progress in our Family Programme classes. 

• To prepare and present written reports to Heads of Department, trustees and funders as required, to include the analysis of attendance and achievement data

• To attend staff and trustee meetings, as required. 

• To prepare and present the annual and termly quality assurance and learner progress documents (eg. SAR – Self Assessment Report). 

• To oversee examinations across the organization and work with the exam boards in meeting their standards and requirements. 

• To maintain and develop our links with other organisations within the local area and London-wide. 

• To market and promote courses and services in order to attract potential learners through local schools, public organisations and community networks. 

• To deliver agreed elements of the learning courses and prepare syllabuses, evaluate individual lesson plans, schemes of work, sessions and courses. 

• To be available to cover, or arrange cover, to ensure all planned classes and courses go ahead. 

• To encourage students to extend their engagement in the community and to play a full part in the activities of the charity. 

• To create/ collate and manage calendar of events for Education, organise trips, workshops and talks for adult learners.
