Volunteering Matters and our work across Newcastle
Volunteering Matters is a social change charity, supporting communities to overcome adversity, tackle isolation and loneliness, improve mental and physical health, develop skills and opportunities, and ensure that people can lead change by volunteering. We passionately believe everyone in the UK should have the opportunity to thrive, and that volunteering changes lives.
We have been operating Volunteer Centre Newcastle (VCN) since 2005. VCN provides a wide range of support around all things volunteering to 1250+ charities, organisations, and groups across Newcastle. Each year, we also support 2000+ members of the public who are interested in volunteering and need support to get started.
We also lead the innovative Newcastle Volunteer Passport Scheme, and the Home from Hospital project which supports older people with their transition home following a hospital admission.
Newcastle Good Neighbours Project
We are working in partnership with Newcastle City Council, and other partners, to launch a new “Good Neighbours” project. We would all like to live in a place that has a sense of community, where people look out for their neighbours. This project aims to foster a feeling of positive wellbeing and independence for those who may be socially isolated, or who don’t have many people around them, giving that “little bit of help”.
The project will help people in the community feel safe, supported, and more able to live an independent life, whilst preventing, reducing and delaying the need for formal support through Adult Social Care. It will also provide people the opportunity to volunteer a little time, in a flexible way, to make a difference in their own community. We know volunteering can lead to enhanced skills, and positive wellbeing. Volunteers will provide practical or social support, completing “one-off’ or short-term tasks, supporting a neighbour. This may include things like grocery shopping, collecting prescriptions, driving someone to a GP appointment, helping with odd jobs around the house, light gardening, or checking in with someone for a cuppa and chat.
The role of Engagement Manager
You will lead the day-to-day delivery of the Good Neighbours project. Initially running as a 2-year pilot, we aim to attract and recruit as many volunteers as possible, whilst ensuring that people who could benefit from the service know about it, and can receive support quickly and easily.
The right person for this position would be someone with a good knowledge and understanding of “best practice” in Volunteer Management. It is essential that the postholder can work flexibly, is an excellent communicator, and can build strong working relationships with a range of people. In this role, you will:
• Work alongside other Volunteering Matters colleagues/projects in Newcastle, in a joined-up way, ensuring we attract volunteers to become a “Good Neighbour”
• Recruit, train, induct, and provide ongoing support to a network of “Good Neighbours” across Newcastle, ensuring each volunteer has a positive and rewarding experience
• Develop strong working relationships with colleagues within Newcastle City Council, and other partners and stakeholders, to raise the profile of the project as a new service locally
• Match volunteers with the right volunteering tasks, at the right time, which suit their goals and interests.
This will include the use of the innovative Volunteer Management system “Volunteero”
• Ensure the project runs smoothly in line with Volunteering Matters policies and processes, compliance needs, meeting ambitious goals/outcomes around number of volunteers involved, and people supported

About CARIS Families
CARIS Families is a small, frontline charity that supports families who are homeless and living in overcrowded multi-occupant hostels in the London Boroughs of Hackney and Camden. Life in temporary accommodation hostels entrenches children and their parents in poverty and disadvantage. Families suffer from acute overcrowding, inadequate basic facilities and a permanent sense of unsafety. The nature of hostel life isolates people from their support networks, decimates their physical and mental health and becomes an adverse life experience in itself for families already suffering the trauma of having become homeless.
CARIS Families exists to provide early intervention to mitigate the worst effects of hostel life and homelessness for children and parents in our four target hostels. We do this by providing hands-on play, learning and social activities to help children meet their potential, improve families’ wellbeing and build their support network. We provide a holistic family support service that case-works with each family individually to reduce financial and other pressures on them as they wait for a permanent home. We also use our data and learned experiences about temporary accommodation to join campaigns for reform to temporary accommodation policy and practice, both locally and nationally.
We have just received funding to employ a dedicated Housing Rights Manager for the next two years. This is an exciting addition to our team, as it will be our first staff member dedicated to helping our homeless families with their housing case. The housing system is notoriously opaque: families tell us it can be a hopeless minefield to navigate independently and that they often can’t access meaningful help with it, resulting in years-long hostel stays. Our Housing Rights Manager will step into the gap and work with families on an individual basis to gain the information and support they need to progress their housing case and expedite their move-on into a suitable home.
About the role
Our Housing Rights Manager will be a key member of our Family Support Service. They will manage a weekly drop-in clinic from within the hostels where they will assess new housing cases and develop a support plan with families. They will manage a full housing caseload of housing support work, collaborating with relevant local groups, local authority partners and law centres to progress families’ housing cases. They will learn from the barriers families tell us they face, develop CARIS Families’ housing advice service in response and use these learnings to contribute to campaigns for reform to temporary accommodation practices and policies locally and nationally.
In their first year, the Housing Rights Manager will work in partnership with housing solicitors at Shelter to write a Housing Information and Rights handbook tailored to the processes of our target boroughs. The handbook will aim to demystify the temporary accommodation system in our two boroughs, explain residents’ legal rights and help them understand their options. It will form a key part of the support we can offer and allow us to reach many more families in hostels than our small staff team can individually casework with.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a committed staff team of just 5, working in a person-centred and community-minded way to make a real difference to families on the frontline of inner-London’s housing crisis.

About this exciting opportunity
Working in partnership with partner agencies, other St Giles Trust teams and referral organisations, you will identify and receive appropriate referrals to the project and build effective partnerships to support clients. You will be responsible for an ongoing caseload of clients, regularly reviewing progress and applying case management skills to provide a personalised service and meet all set targets, and you will be expected to organise and deliver one-to-one and group activities to prepare clients for employment and to achieve their goals.

The Opportunity
The Aspiring Professionals Programme Coordinator (APPC) role will be well-suited to someone who is focused on the best ways they can help the aims of the charity as well as those of our participants and partners. An APPC is responsible for supporting the delivery and development of the Social Mobility Foundation’s programme of activities for young people through their S5-6/sixth form and university years.
The SMF offers in-person and online support and opportunities, so this role will involve providing virtual and in-person support to students and working with employers across the UK.
Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time (Monday - Friday, 9:00-17:30)
1. Achieving Results
- Organising, supporting and delivering skills sessions, partner events, university trips, both in person and virtually across SMF cities and other parts of the UK.
- Coordinating logistics for virtual and in-person events, including content creation, securing venues and speakers, producing webinars and video calls, advertising events, collating attendee lists and compiling feedback/evaluation
- Coordinating logistics of 6F/S5-6 and undergraduate internships, including but not limited to, internship advertising and student selection, liaising with students and employers throughout internship delivery, and compiling student feedback/evaluation

Working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, we have a new exciting opportunity for an experienced welfare benefits adviser to support to people affected by cancer and those who care for them.
Role purpose:
- The Lead Welfare Benefits Adviser will lead and work with a team of advisers to provide welfare benefits advice, advocacy and casework for people living with cancer, their families and carers.
- The post holder will undertake casework to challenge benefit decisions including appeals, acting on behalf of clients where appropriate.
- The post holder will supervise and support the team of advisers to ensure their advice and information is effective and that clients’ incomes are maximised through benefits, grants, etc.
Training

Delivery locations
A key aspect of the project is to deliver an outreach service at the West Middlesex Hospital, our offices in Hounslow and the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, with regular sessions to be covered by the team of advisers. Clients will also be seen in person at appointments at our offices, while telephone advice and video appointments can be done working remotely.
Main Responsibilities
- To provide welfare benefits advice and casework to people living with cancer, their families, and carers.
- Assist clients to challenge benefits decisions, including appeals.
- Liaise and negotiate with other statutory and voluntary organisations to progress the client’s case and ensure they receive all assistance available.
- Achieve good outcomes for clients through advocacy and negotiation.

Mae hon yn swydd newydd yn yr elusen a grëwyd mewn ymateb i ofynion sy'n dod i'r amlwg a gweithrediad strategaeth Mind Conwy.
Rydym am benodi unigolyn profiadol i arwain datblygiad Strategaeth Codi Arian ac Ymgysylltu Mind Conwy, hyrwyddo ein cyrsiau hyfforddi corfforaethol a chydweithio â rhanddeiliaid, gyda'r nod o sicrhau twf incwm sylweddol.
Arwain tîm i fwayafu incwm sy'n cynnwys Swyddog Codi Arian, Swyddog Cyfryngau Cymdeithasol a Hyfforddwr sy'n darparu Cyrsiau Cymorth Cyntaf Iechyd Meddwl i sefydliadau ar draws Gogledd Cymru.
Prif Gyfrifoldebau:
- Ymchwil ar y Cyd: Bod yn bartner i’r Prif Weithredwr ac aelodau allweddol o’r tîm i archwilio a sicrhau cyfleoedd ariannu newydd.
- Arweinyddiaeth Tîm: Goruchwylio’r Tîm Cynhyrchu Incwm, sy’n cynnwys marchnata ein gwasanaethau, trefnu hyfforddiant allanol i sefydliadau a chodi arian.
- Ysgrifennu Cynigion Strategol: Arwain y gwaith o greu a chyflwyno cynigion codi arian arloesol, gan sicrhau aliniad â gofynion y rhoddwr a’r sefydliad.
- Datblygiad Strategol: Cynnig Strategaeth Cynhyrchu Incwm sy'n cyd-fynd â'n nodau sefydliadol trosfwaol.
- Gweithredu'r Cynllun: Ysgogi gweithrediad y Cynllun Cynhyrchu Incwm, gan gynnwys marchnata, cyhoeddusrwydd, codi arian a mentrau corfforaethol a hyfforddi.
- Meithrin Perthynas: Creu cysylltiadau cryf gyda sefydliadau lleol i hyrwyddo ein rhaglenni hyfforddi corfforaethol.
Cynhyrchu Incwm
- Arweiniad Arbenigol: Darparu gwybodaeth arbenigol ar gynhyrchu incwm a thwf i uwch reolwyr.
- Amrywio Ffrydiau Incwm: Datblygu ffynonellau incwm cynaliadwy trwy gontractau, grantiau, a chyfleoedd arloesol fel pecynnau llesiant yn y gweithle, hyfforddiant staff mewn rheoli iechyd meddwl, codi arian yn y gymuned a chodi arian corfforaethol.
- Strategaeth Twf Busnes: Arwain y tîm wrth greu strategaeth twf busnes cadarn ar gyfer cynhyrchu incwm yn Mind Conwy a'i is-gwmnïau.
- Hyrwyddo Proffil Uchel: Hyrwyddo ein gwasanaethau i sefydliadau proffil uchel a nodi cyfleoedd cynhyrchu incwm arloesol.
Sefydliadol
- Cyfranogiad gweithredol: Mynychu a chyfrannu at gyfarfodydd, gan sicrhau aliniad â nodau sefydliadol.
- Cydymffurfiaeth: Cadw at ganllawiau Iechyd a Diogelwch, polisïau'r cwmni, a rheoliadau GDPR.
- Datblygu Polisi: Cyfrannu at ddatblygu a chynnal polisïau ariannol, gan sicrhau cydymffurfiaeth â deddfwriaeth.
- Hyrwyddo a Chodi Arian: Mynd ati i hyrwyddo gwaith yr elusen a chymryd rhan mewn gweithgareddau codi arian.
- Sicrhau Ansawdd: Sicrhau cydymffurfiaeth â safonau ansawdd mewnol.
- Canolbwyntio ar Ddefnyddwyr Gwasanaeth: Blaenoriaethu anghenion ein defnyddwyr gwasanaeth ym mhob gweithgaredd.
- Cenhadaeth a Gwerthoedd: Cynnal a hyrwyddo cenhadaeth a gwerthoedd yr elusen.

Cwmpas y swydd-ddisgrifiad
Mae'r swydd-ddisgrifiad hwn yn adlewyrchu gofynion a chyfrifoldebau uniongyrchol y swydd. Nid yw'n rhestr hollgynhwysfawr o'r dyletswyddau ond mae'n rhoi syniad cyffredinol o'r gwaith a wneir a all amrywio o ran manylder yng ngoleuni gofynion a blaenoriaethau newidiol. Y Broses Gwneud Cais
Rydyn ni eisiau gwneud ein rolau mor hygyrch ag y gallwn i’r ystod ehangaf bosibl o ymgeiswyr, felly mae’r sgyrsiau hyn yn rhoi cyfle i chi ofyn cwestiynau, i weld a yw eich sgiliau a’ch profiad yn addas, ac i gael gwybod mwy am y broses gwneud cais.
Trefnwch sgwrs dros y ffôn gyda ni cyn i chi wneud cais, a byddwn yn trafod y swydd gyda chi, a sut mae eich sgiliau a’ch profiad yn cyd-fynd â’r disgrifiad swydd a manyleb y person, a gallwn drafod sut mae llenwi’r ffurflen gais.
