The Degrees Initiative is a UK-based NGO that builds the capacity of developing countries to evaluate solar radiation modification (SRM), a controversial proposal for reducing some impacts of climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. Degrees is neutral on whether SRM should ever be used, but we believe that developing countries should be empowered to conduct their own research and to play a central role in SRM discussions. The initiative has been working in different forms for over a decade and our work receives worldwide coverage and widespread acclaim. 

Degrees’ programmatic work builds capacity through research grants, workshops, and community-building—all across the Global South. The initiative has been steadily growing since becoming a charity, and we plan on continuing to expand. Over the next few years, Degrees will offer grants to research teams in new countries and disciplines, support the scientists as they develop into regional leaders, and keep building a global community of experts.

The Staff Scientist position offers a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to move into or advance in the nonprofit sector while helping scale-up the organisation’s work. They will get to work with some the world’s leading SRM experts both inside and outside of Degrees and play a central role in building an initiative that is changing the field of SRM. 

Job purpose 

The Degrees Modelling Fund was launched in 2018 and has grown into the largest SRM research programme in the world. It supports almost 150 scientists across the Global South as they model how SRM could affect the climate in their regions, and they are becoming influential leaders in the SRM conversation. 

This is a good start, but our plans are much more ambitious. We now want to support the Southern teams to move to the next level in their development. National projects will evolve into regional research programmes—in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, for instance. These regional programmes will inform policy processes by writing reports and policy briefs. Centralised downscaling and bias correction will reduce the barriers to SRM research across the Global South, allowing more countries to do their own SRM research and increasing existing teams’ output.

Degrees’ new Staff Scientist will be central to this. As an expert in climate impacts modelling, they will help the teams develop regional research projects. They will support Southern scientists to get access to the data that they need, will advise Degrees on how we can best support Southern SRM research, and develop new work streams as needed. In all of this, the Staff Scientist will work closely with the 26 modelling teams that Degrees supports across the Global South, plus our range of partners and volunteer research collaborators. In this, their work will be central to the next stage of Degrees’ development, helping to ensure that developing countries have the evidence and expertise to evaluate SRM and to play a central role in research and discussions. 

About the position  

The position will appeal to someone with a strong academic track record who is looking to use their skills and training outside of academia—for an organisation that is looking to use research to change the world, rather than just for research’s sake. Because the right candidate may not wish to leave academia entirely, the position may be less than full time, which would be negotiated (but not less than 60% time at Degrees). 

Specific responsibilities include: 

• Plan and implement the new lines of work, above, and to develop new ones in cooperation with other staff members, Degrees-funded researchers, and volunteers; 

• Organise and facilitate regionalisation workshops approximately each quarter; 

• Manage and deepen relationships with regional SRM experts; 

• Work with a future science writer to deliver the annual scientific reports;  

• Learn the goals and needs of scientists in each region and, to the extent possible, facilitate their provision; 

• Directly support our funded scientists, as appropriate; 

• Help deliver the Degrees Global Forum on SRM, taking place 12-16 May in Cape Town; 

• In consultation with the CEO and Programmes Director, set annual plans (including budgets), objectives and key results; . 

• Support our policy engagement, communications, and reporting activities. 

Job purpose:

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone enthusiastic about driving change to join the Huntington’s Disease Association, proactively working to advocate for and improve care for people with this rare neurological condition. 
 

As Policy and Public Affairs Officer, you will work closely with our Head of Public Affairs to influence decision makers in the NHS, and UK and Welsh governments. You will be joining the charity at an exciting time as we develop a new influencing strategy. You will help shape this work, while having opportunity to work with external stakeholders, including health professionals, civil servants and other charities, all whilst developing your skillset and policy and public affairs experience. We have had success over the past year in parliament in highlighting the issues faced by people living with Huntington’s disease, and we are now focused on building this work to help drive policy change.
 

This is a remote role, working from home mostly, but will require travel to London and other locations across England and Wales (which the charity will cover expenses for).

We are seeking an experienced communications professional to create a new role in our small national early years charity. You will ensure our messages reach stakeholders through multiple channels in a co-ordinated and impactful way.

Early Education (The British Association for Early Childhood Education) is a membership body for individuals and organisations working in early childhood education across the UK.  We provide continuing development opportunities and campaign for every child's right to the best start in life.

This is a varied role which would suit an excellent communicator with enthusiasm for the importance of early childhood education. You will be responsible for producing our fortnightly email newsletters to members and our termly Journal, and for creating an active and engaging social media and web presence for the organisation. By shaping organisational strategy, monitoring our progress, and refining public brand positioning, the Director of Strategy and Brand will ensure that 38 Degrees remains agile, cohesive, and impactful, continually driving growth and resilience in service of our mission.

The Director of Strategy and Brand will focus on formulating plans for our strategy, our tactics and how we are set up as an organisation to succeed.

Prospectus is pleased to support a well-known refugee organisation in recruiting a Commercial Contracts Advisor for a consultancy running from January to March 2025, requiring 15-20 days of work.

As commercial contracts become increasingly vital for securing long-term funding, the organisation seeks a qualified consultant or firm to refine its budgeting and pricing strategies. The role involves developing tools, templates, and SOPs to enhance pricing models such as Fee per Day, Payment by Results (PbR), and Lump Sum while ensuring compliance with donor regulations, particularly those of FCDO and the World Bank. The consultant will also strengthen NRC's capacity to craft competitive, compliant proposals aligned with its financial policies.

Ideal candidates will bring extensive experience in commercial contracting, a deep understanding of FCDO and World Bank financial frameworks, expertise in cost proposal development, and a proven track record in creating pricing SOPs. As part of the bid writing team be accountable for writing multi million pound winning bids for agreed contracts, tenders and frameworks in line with the agreed operating model, enabling United Response to retain and grow income in a sustainable way.

Key responsibilities

Bid writing

· Writing high quality and innovative responses in tenders and framework that are representative of United Response work in collaboration with Operation colleagues and Relationship Managers that will lead to winning multi million pound partnerships

· Working closely with the Principle Commercial Bid Writer, Heads of business development, operational subject matter experts to ensure that all tenders, are written to an excellent standard and meet necessary criteria within internal and procurement timeframes.

· Editing and copywriting content to provide consistent and engaging written submissions.

· To articulate and illustrate information provided to you as well as work up concepts into creative and innovative ideas, in line with The United Response strategy and brand. This will include research, example gathering, development of new initiatives and engaging internal and external stakeholders, to include in model development and submissions which will lead to significant increases in income.

Disabled people face significant inequalities in education, sport, leisure and employment. They often face multiple barriers to fulfilling their potential and achieving their aspirations. Sport and physical activity have the power to inspire, enable, build self-esteem, and provide success. They can improve physical health, employability, mental well-being and social community inclusion. However, many barriers prevent disabled people from accessing sport. These include a lack of coaching, clubs, transport, equipment and support networks, as well as high costs and negative perceptions of disabled people participating in sport.

We are a fairly new charity established in 2021, with big ambitions for the future. We have started with small but meaningful projects. We are reaching out to disabled people, learning from our projects, and focusing on our vision and purpose.

We are now looking for someone to join our small but mighty team as our Project Officer. This is a new role, and is crucial to the development of the charity over the next few years. You will set up and deliver new projects to enable disabled people to get active and access sporting opportunities. To do this you will develop relationships with partners, funders and the disability community. This role has the potential for growth and development. You will have a huge influence in shaping our project delivery so that we can continue supporting disabled people to achieve their ambitions through sport.

Main purpose of this role

Our mentoring work provides a person-centred approach, supporting disabled people to access the life-changing power of movement and sport. We train mentors (who are mostly disabled) and match them with disabled people who face multiple barriers and are likely to remain inactive without intervention. They work together to break down these barriers and connect with local sports clubs and initiatives. We delivered our first mentoring programme in Nottingham and are now looking to expand the programme across the East Midlands and other areas in England and Wales. Alongside this we want to expand our already established Supported Runner Programme to enable disabled people to participate in shorter community runs, and to adapt the model to support disabled people into other sports.

We are looking for a proactive, confident and dynamic individual to help us set up and deliver new mentoring and supported sports projects to enable disabled people to get involved in physical activity in their communities. You will join our small creative and supportive team within an empowering, values-led organisation that is person-centred and ambitious to empower disabled people.

We are looking for someone with significant experience of delivering projects at a community level, recruiting and supporting volunteers and project beneficiaries. Job Title: Project Officer

Project set up and delivery

• Develop and implement project plans that incorporate KPIs, milestones and responsibilities, ensuring deadlines are met and plans amended as appropriate.
• Develop effective systems, policies and procedures to support project delivery.
