The Role:

FareShare Midlands is the region’s largest food redistribution charity. We take good-to-eat surplus food from the food industry and get it to our Members - frontline charities and community groups all over the Midlands. We turn an environmental problem into a social solution.
Last year we redistributed almost 5,794 tonnes of food from our warehouses in Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham. It is sorted and stored by our dedicated teams of staff and volunteers, and then redistributed to around 800 Members including food pantries and cafes, homeless shelters and drop-in centres.
These local organisations turn the food into food parcels, affordable shopping and delicious meals for people of all ages. As well as food, our Members provide vital support to families and the elderly, many of whom are facing challenging circumstances and living in poverty.
Last year our food reached more than 83,000 vulnerable people every week, providing 13 million meals. At the same time, we are growing our Employability Programmes to help people gain work experience, skills and jobs.
The Role
To undertake all aspects of warehouse duties, ensuring effective, safe and efficient distribution of food each day. You will have responsibility for coordination of our food stock, from goods-in to picking, dispatch and stock rotation and will be expected to drive vans, and Fork Lift Trucks (training provided). Working closely with the wider team and volunteers, you will also support the monitoring and utilisation of warehouse space, stock, deliveries and collections to ensure food reaches its destination amongst our members safely, on time and in full.
Key duties and responsibilities:
1. Operations
· Undertake all warehouse duties, ensuring effective, safe and efficient co-ordination and distribution and of food
· To work to performance indicators so that stock is accurate and delivery routes are efficient to allow the organisation to grow
· To ensure that all work areas – both inside and outside the warehouse - are clean, organised and safe to work in
· Follow all H&S and Food Safety standards set out in the FareShare policies and procedures to ensure the safety of all our colleagues & visitors, and the safe receipt of food by all our members.
· Undertake van/Fork Lift Truck driving duties to ensure effective, efficient timely and safe delivery & collection of food, in line with compliance standards
· Ensuring great customer service in delivery
· Loading and unloading, sorting for, and following deliveries, ensuring safe lifting, and carrying
· Keep vehicles refuelled, maintained, operational and clean and tidy, ready for the next delivery run
· Refer van “issues”, in a timely manner to Transport Department to ensure minimum disruption to service delivery
· Undertake all checks and procedures from pre-delivery to post-delivery
· Ensure lock up, parking and storage of vans and equipment following completion of deliveries
2. Volunteer Communication & Co-ordination
· Work closely with the volunteer teams a diverse group ranging from regular and long-term, volunteers, placements (e.g. Job Centre) to business people having just a 1-day volunteering experience – to ensure that all shift duties are covered and teams work effectively
· Provide leadership and guidance to volunteers, ensuring they follow all policies and procedures, high standards of accuracy are maintained and their volunteer experience with FSM is a satisfying one.
· Work closely with the Warehouse Manager, Volunteer Manager & wider staff team with the recruitment, training and development of volunteers in the context of our commitment to Equal Opportunities

The RNLI is looking for a full-time Regional Support Lead covering the Wales, West and Isle of Man Region. This is a busy and diverse region delivering Lifeboat, Lifeguard and fundraising activity.
Your role
As our Regional Support Lead, you will be reporting direct to the Head of Region. You will be part of the regional leadership team comprised of senior representatives from Lifesaving, Engagement, Engineering and Water Safety. The team is tasked with leading the RNLI’s lifesaving activities in the region, delivering to local priorities as one crew.
This very busy and highly diverse role is vital in bringing together Lifesaving, Engagement, Engineering and Water Safety teams whilst leading on Support services, bringing the region together to plan, monitor performance and resolve issues whilst delivering the full breadth of regional activity and services. There are three core elements:
- Business Management is critical to compliance and our overall lifesaving success. The post-holder is responsible for leadership, management of, and reporting on our business plan, finances, people, compliance, and regional performance. You will also plan and coordinate a range of technical and complex change programmes with regional and central teams, also acting as a key link for standardisation and collaboration with the other five regions.
- Providing the regional collaboration function, acting as a stepping stone between the region and the central function. Deputising for and supporting the Head of Region in the full breadth of activity we undertake, bringing people together behind a single plan. Leading on issues resolution and taking a risk-based approach through matrix management of a large pool of specialist roles and teams.
- Leading Support Services for the region, ensuring we remain compliant, our people are safe, and local teams get the tools and support they need to have Lifesaving impact essential to saving lives. You will directly line manage the Regional Support Team and work every day as the Regional Leadership primary point of contact with critical support teams such as HR, Volunteering, SHE, L&OD, Media & Comms, Systems & IT, Supply Chain & Logistics, and Procurement.
About you
It is essential that you have the ability to work across departmental structures and working at all levels utilising matrix management skills, driving collaboration with the ability to get others to understand our needs, issues and vision. You will have the ability to look ahead at the region’s strategic direction whilst being able to get into the detail when required to ensure the job is done. You will have exceptional communication and engagement skills; a solid grasp of business functions is essential and a large part of the role’s focus, in particular in compliance, risk management and planning. Being a starter-finisher is a must, as is delivering through others.
Ideally, you will have experience in directly leading and/or supporting technical operations in complex environments. A background in HR, Finance, Project Management, Business Planning would be of benefit but can be taught.
Candidates should live within the Wales, West and Isle of Man Region. This is a hybrid mix of home and regional working (including frontline locations) with an expectation to be in the Regional Base (LL17 0LJ) a minimum of 2 days per week.

FareShare GM redistributed an amazing 1,929 tonnes of surplus food to 306 community groups, supplying 4.6 million meals to those in need in 2023/24. Key Responsibilities Include:
Commercial & Business Development:
· Own our commercial relationships with the Ministry of Justice and other major customers.
· Bring in new funders and new contract business from the MOJ, HMPPS, Local Authority Adult Education Providers, and Private Sector companies working in our field.
· Collaborate with our bid and business development team and with our marketing team on fundraising.
· Take the lead on major new grant funding applications.
· Review and develop operational processes to improve performance and maximise growth working closely with the Head of Finance, Director of Operations and MD Clink Events.
· Work together with relevant internal departments to develop accurate and consistent bids.
· Establishing targets for contract income, fundraising and grants, and ensuring the Charity meets them.
Business Management:
· Ensure the smooth running of our Head Office site at Bessemer Park, Herne Hill, London.
· Manage our leases and site infrastructure in Bessemer Park including managing our outsourced IT provider.
· Management of our in-house IT systems contracts relationships (Case Management, Sage, Paperless invoicing).
· Oversee all business accounts and contracts.
· Implement systems and processes to ensure all contracts are managed and renewed including competitive re- tendering as appropriate.
· Managing risk assessments for new initiatives and overseeing the risk register for the Charity.
Experience & Background Required:
We welcome applicants with relevant commercial and contract management experience from the public, private or not for profit sectors. Successful applicants are likely to have had a track record in negotiating public sector contracts and building relationships with commissioners and procurement professionals. Experience in education, training, apprenticeships or justice services would be of particular interest.
It is essential that the role holder is Financially and IT literate, someone who can lead the commercial function, manage our outsourced IT infrastructure providers and provide business leadership to the management of all internal supply contracts.
You will work closely with the Finance team and support the remote working Head of Finance to provide oversight and support to our finance team members based at Head Office.
