The Role​

This is an exciting opportunity to join our ambitious Philanthropy team raising £3 million per year, and with ambitious plans to grow income further in the coming years. You will take responsibility for building meaningful relationships with individuals, trusts & foundations, and institutional grant makers, at the 5 and 6 figure level. About the role

We seek an experienced Business Development Manager to drive our UK growth and expand our client and partner base. Reporting directly to the CEO, (initially) you will lead our sales strategy targeting UK businesses, with a particular focus on small and medium businesses, and public sector organisations. 

With a proven track record in generating revenue through outbound marketing, online channels and relationship-building, as well as developing new revenue-generating business models, you will be hands-on in driving our B2B sales, securing over £150,000 annually through direct sales, grants, tenders, contracts and partnerships. You will also contribute to developing engaging communications to support The Human Edge's financial growth and brand development.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute the sales growth strategy aligned with organisational goals
• Proactively identify and ensure new business opportunities, partnerships and collaboration
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with HR/talent leaders, MDs and decision-makers in UK businesses and/or public sector organisations
• Lead and manage the end-to-end sales and account management process, including lead identification, proposal/bid writing, pitching, and closing deals

About you

You are a commercially minded, results-driven and action-oriented business development professional with 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in B2B sales and income generation within the leadership development, coaching, and mentoring and skill building/training sectors. Skilled in securing new business, developing growth strategies and building long-term client relationships, you leverage your established network of HR/talent leaders and Managing Directors in UK businesses, with a particular focus on small and medium businesses, and/or public sector to enable consistent revenue growth.

• Develop and strengthen financial controls and risk management processes to maintain reporting integrity and mitigate financial risks.

Essential experience:

Purpose of the post 

The Warehouse Supervisor plays an essential role in the smooth running of the Vale Lane warehouse, supporting all aspects of the food operation. 

You will work as part of a team to effectively support the warehouse operation, incoming goods, storage and dispatch of goods to Community Food Members (CFMs) to high levels of compliance and service. This role will include working with a large and diverse team of volunteers throughout the week.  

The role will be primarily based at our South Bristol warehouse, where alongside our usual food redistribution operation and volunteering programme, we run our youth employability programme FareChance for 18 to 25-year-olds to develop logistics and workplace experience.

Duties and responsibilities: 

Warehouse  

• Ensure the smooth running of food intake, storage, and food distribution, liaising with food industry representatives, FSUK, distribution companies and hauliers. 

• Support the South Bristol Hub Manager in coordinating and maintaining the fleet of vans and machinery. 

• Provide ongoing support to the South Bristol Hub Manager to ensure high levels of compliance in the warehouse throughout the year and for internal/external audits. 

• As part of the warehouse team, reduce waste and maximise the distribution of surplus food to members. 

• Report to the South Bristol Hub Manager with operational improvements to increase efficiency and implement agreed changes. 

Volunteers and FareChance  

• Oversee (under the direction of the South Bristol Hub Manager) FareChance participants, regular volunteers and corporate volunteers on warehouse shifts, delegating/assigning tasks, and supervising work to ensure all tasks completed effectively. 

• Support and train all FareChance participants and volunteers with their allocated warehouse/job-specific tasks/roles

• Supporting the FareChance participants’ and volunteer’s health, safety, and welfare during their shift. 

• Undertake continual professional development e.g. training in mental health, active listening, coaching, safeguarding, inclusive practice etc 

• Provide positive role modelling to FareChance participants and volunteers while undertaking warehouse tasks together. 

Goods In and Storage 

• Follow FSSW goods-in procedures including liaising with suppliers, completing relevant paperwork, using inhouse software and fork-lifting duties. 

• Ensure pickable and non-pickable areas are ready to receive good in and dispatch orders at all times. 

• Manage storage of stock within the warehouse, including: 

• Assisting with stock checks 

• Ensuring effective stock rotation and sharing best practice  

• Oversee the dispatch of goods through deliveries and collections ensuring all FSSW procedures are followed. 

• Liaise with the wider FSSW team and FSUK to report quality, quantities, and other issues.  

Compliance and Health & Safety 

• Operate according to the FSUK HACCP Food Safety Manual and FSSW compliance standards and processes.  

• Support the South Bristol Hub Manager to ensure compliance with relevant food hygiene, health & safety, and other standards applicable to FSSW premises, vehicles, refrigeration equipment, staff, and volunteers. 

• Undertake relevant training in food hygiene, safeguarding and health & safety 

General 

• Respond to/answer any enquiries/communications via telephone, email, in person or via inhouse IT/systems. 

• Engage positively with any visitors to the warehouse. 

• Support FSSW events. 

• Carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required in support of the main purpose of the role, including liaising with the wider FSSW team. 

• Uphold high quality care and standards of conduct when dealing with all stakeholders and the general public. 

• Support the security of the FSSW sites and assets. 

• Driving and fork-lifting duties where appropriate.

About the Independent Service Manager role

We are looking for an experienced childcare professional to manage our England wide service for complaints under the Children Act (1989) and Independent Person service for Secure Accommodation Reviews for children placed in secure children’s home under section 25 of the Children Act (1989).

The role will be responsible for the delivery of this national service managing a group of committed and dedicated Independent Person, as well as managing the relationships with our commissioning authorities. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring excellent service delivery that meets internal and external performance measures. They will hold responsibility for quality assuring work undertaken via contact with Independent Persons and scrutiny of investigation reports.

Purpose
To provide administrative support to the CBM UK Programme Development Department, especially to its Programme Funding team; enabling efficient management of stakeholder relationships and submission of quality proposals to institutional donors. This support will contribute to the funding and effective delivery of disability-inclusive development and humanitarian programmes in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs).
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Programme Funding, the majority of the Programme Officer’s time will be spent supporting the Programme Funding team, which is part of the Programme Development (PD) Department.
Programme Funding, Programme Finance and Programme Management work very closely together as the PD Department, covering the whole Project Cycle including design, contracting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. As well as supporting Programme Funding (75-80% of the role), you will also support smooth running of other aspects of the PD Department (20-25%). To represent the latter, there is a ‘dotted line’ of reporting from the Programme Officer to both the Head of Programmes and the Director of Programme Impact. Full induction and internal training on all CBM UK-specific tasks, systems and processes will be provided.

Programme Funding Support (75-80%)
• Support scanning for suitable new funding opportunities, and create clear summaries of donor requirements.
• Keep the Programme Funding team, and each proposal development team1, highly organised, enabling efficient progress towards a submission deadline. This is likely to include:
o Real-time information management; clear filing, version control and communication
o Tracking progress against agreed actions; following up with reminders
o Using checklists to ensure all important steps are followed
o Facilitating adaptations to the proposal development plan
o Creating user-friendly templates and guidance
o Making arrangements for meetings
o Coordinating review processes.
• Provide practical administrative support to proposal development and stakeholder relationship-building, including:
o Online research about donor / geography / technical area / partners / competitors
o Formatting, proof-reading and/or editing to fit prescribed word / character limits
o Creation of tables, graphics, references from supplied data
o Checking compliance against donor requirements
o Arranging, recording and following up on meetings.
• Data management: Update and maintain Project Management System ‘Global Online’ with information relating to funding proposals, projects, donors and consortium partners (both current and prospective) – everything required prior to handover to Programme Management team for donor contract negotiations.
• Support efficiency and effectiveness of the Programme Funding Team through continual maintenance of and improvements to Programme Funding systems and processes, e.g. updating a proposal resource library.
• Manage provision of compliance information for due diligence processes and proposals as required by donors or consortium leads. Provide this service for other CBM UK teams as well as for the Programme Funding team, as required.
• Carry out other duties as required by the Head of Programme Funding, including support for internal reporting.
Programme Development (PD) Department support (20-25%)
• Make arrangements for events such as internal and external meetings (including recording actions / minutes, and providing for any accessibility requirements), training courses and team building, regular learning sessions, team travel (including bookings and expenses) and occasional international workshops (mostly online).

• Lead on knowledge management for Programme Development (PD) Department including updating PD Handbook and maintaining MS Teams site.
• Support the Director of Programme Impact and Head of Programmes with internal reporting processes; sourcing and collating information.
• Facilitate responses to enquiries about CBM programmes from the public or other teams, and facilitate communication with other CBM UK departments.
• Carry out other duties as required by the Director of Programme Impact, or Head of Programmes, including providing ‘surge support’ to Programme Managers. This could include:
o Practical support for adaptation to new or improved systems / processes
o Preparing materials for presentations or papers for meetings
o Collating information for annual budgeting or project portfolio allocations
o Scheduling and calendar management.
Other
• Work with other teams to maximise cross fertilisation opportunities and integrated working.
• Help develop a culture of enthusiasm and success, reflecting the ambitions of CBM UK.
• Play an active role across CBM UK, promoting positive working and innovation. Cross-team ‘Champions’ groups are one way to do this, e.g. current groups focus on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Wellbeing; Safeguarding; Innovation. The social committee is another option.

We are opening a brand new bookshop in Calverton during 2025 and we are seeking a passionate and experienced Bookshop Manager to lead our diverse volunteer team and oversee daily operations to maximise income for our charity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in retail management, a love for books and media, and excellent customer service skills.
