The interim Chief Executive will act as the main link between the charity and Board. Together with the Chair, they will enable the Board of Trustees to fulfil its duties and responsibilities for the proper governance of the charity.

  • Be responsible for overall financial health of the charity. 
  • Recover reserves and identify further areas of cost saving. 
  • Have an overview of finances and resources, ensuring to operate within agreed annual budget.

  • Consult with Board and Treasurer to prepare an Annual Budget, to be approved by the Board.
  • Ensure that there are effective mechanisms to ensure the robustness of external and internal controls (financial and non-financial).
• Governance, Reporting and Risk
  • Review major risks which charity is exposed to regularly by the Board and the management team. 
  • Ensure Board are appropriately informed and involved in organisational activities and the organisation benefits from their experience, skills and expertise.
  • Ensure that there are effective mechanisms to ensure the robustness of external and internal controls (financial and non-financial).
• External and internal relations
  • Foster good communication throughout charity and externally. 
  • Actively develop charity's public profile, professional networks and foster good relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Set up mechanisms for listening to the views of current and future beneficiaries. 
  • Regular one-to-one meetings with the Chair. 
• Legal and regulatory compliance 
  • Ensure charity fulfils all its legal, statutory, and regulatory responsibilities.

  • Ensure organisation continues to deliver the Mind Quality Mark accreditation. 

The successful candidate will need to evidence the following:

You will have knowledge and experience in:

• Demonstrable track record of operating at CEO level or similar, managing, and embedding change.
• Proven track record of managing, growing, and developing support services in line with best practice in different and diverse communities, ideally in health or social care sectors (within Mental Health specifically preferred).
• Experience in recovering reserves and developing cost-saving efficiencies.
• Experience in restructures.
• Experience working with statutory and non-statutory bodies to achieve commissioning and grant targets and to grow the charity.
• Experience of working strategically to source and secure sustainable funding solutions working within tight financial constraints.
• Building effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders including service users based on principles of co-production.
• Educated to degree level or equivalent, with demonstrable evidence of continuous professional and personal development.
• Excellent people management and conflict resolution skills, and the ability to lead, delegate appropriately, motivate and support the performance of staff. 
• Excellent understanding of safeguarding legislation and processes, safety, and quality management.

The Political Studies Association (PSA) exists to develop and promote the study and teaching of politics and related disciplines. Founded in 1950, we are the leading association in our field in the United Kingdom, with an international membership including academics in political science, theorists and practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and students in higher education as well as members from the school community.  

Contract and Salary ; Permanent and Salary Band D (£45k FTE)

Hours: 0.6 or 0.8 FTE i.e. over 3 or 4 days each week

Reports to the PSA’s Chief Executive

Location: All roles are based at our offices in Camden London but the PSA staff work hybrid  and supports its staff to work remotely. Post-holders will be required, however, to come into our offices regularly and The whole team is endeavouring to collaborate in our offices regularly, especially on Wednesdays each week.

Job purpose: The postholder will support our aim to be the leading advocate for and supporter of Political Studies in the UK. Working with the CEO, the rest of the PSA Team and trustees you will lead the association’s membership services, communications, outreach programmes, and events including:  

· Teaching and Learning Network

· Postgraduate students and Early Career Network

· Schools & Student programmes

· Specialist Groups 

· Recognising professional contributions including our prizes and awards

· Advocacy for Political Studies.  

The PSA is the home of Political Studies and in doing so the PSA’s staff and trustees work to bring our community together and advocate its importance to achieve our mission. This role plays a vital role in achieving this.

You will build and sustain a team of motivated and skilled staff and contractors and support them to continuously develop, innovate and enjoy their work. You will reflect the values of sustainability, diversity, advocacy and excellence in everything that you and your team do.

The post-holder will also contribute to the association’s income and membership targets, work within assigned budgets and creatively with partners as well as monitoring and reporting performance to trustees.

Operational priorities in the first year in being in post will include:

· Embedding a new website and CRM

· Implementing a new PSA 2025+ Strategic Plan including reviews of our membership offer and specialist groups

· Delivering the association’s annual conference

· Recruiting new team members to successfully deliver this strategy.

Team Structure & Context: The post will line manage a team of membership, communications and events personnel including the services of several external expert suppliers. You will also, on occasion, deputise for the CEO.  This role works closely with the Operations & Finance team on governance, budgeting, grants and awards, digital systems and delivery.

Interview: There will be a two-stage interview process, first stage interview with be on either 6th or 8th November via teams and second stage will be in person in Camden on 15th November.

Main responsibilities:

Governance, Strategy and Leadership:

• Work with the PSA’s trustees and PSA team to shape and deliver the PSA’s strategy and annual business plans and support our aim to be the leading advocate and scholarly community for Political Studies in the UK
• Ensure key performance indicators relating to your work area are monitored, reported and used to continuously improve our operations.
• Work with trustees and lead by example to embed the values of sustainability, diversity, advocacy and excellence throughout the organisation
• Lead, support, and motivate staff so they are engaged and committed to delivering the organisation’s culture, values and objectives while meeting their individual potential and enjoying their work
• You will be able to approve expenditure in accordance with the PSA’s Scheme of Delegation and finance policies and procedures
• On occasion, co-ordinate the PSA’s response to government and other consultations and represent the association while engaging stakeholders.

Membership Services and Communications: 

Lead and support your Membership, Events, Communications & Programmes line-reports to develop and deliver the following:

• Devising the PSA’s membership, marketing and communications strategies with the wider PSA Team and trustees so that the association maintains and enhances its profile, size, and impact
• Manage team members and contractors to ensure the development and delivery of these strategies including the organisation’s membership services, codes of conduct, professional standards and package of member benefits
• Work with your team and trustees in shaping our membership offer which supports our members as they progress through their studies and careers. This includes the development and delivery of new membership categories including the PSA Fellowship
• Work with your team members to continuously improve the PSA’s member communications and content ensuring that all web and other digital and printed content and data is timely and good quality. You will ensure an ongoing programme of content and calls for action including promotion of Political Insight magazine and journals, the PSA Blog, e-newsletters, and social media as well as the efficient and effective deployment of the CRM so we can give our members, donors and stakeholders the best experience possible
•  Work with your team to ensure the membership recruitment, renewal and services run smoothly and achieve the continued growth in the association and that expectations are met
• Run the annual academic prizes programme as a part of our PSA member benefits package and in partnership with others including the American Political Science Association and the Academy of Social Sciences
• Support the CEO and Head of Operations and Finance with implementing the PSA’s grant and other support programmes as part of our member benefits package

Programme Management:

Deliver the PSA’s Schools programme: 

• Support PSA trustees in creating a programme in line with the PSA’s strategy
• Lead team members, suppliers, and partners to deliver this programme to as wide a range of teachers and pupils as possible
• Promote the teaching and study of Politics particularly post-16 and at undergraduate level
• Develop and deliver an offering for teachers and students (particularly post-16 resources and events) involving input from academics in line with PSA Strategy
• Support the PSA’s trustees on engagement and advocacy concerning post-16 curriculum and assessment.

Supporting Students, early career academics and those focussed on higher education teaching and learning: 

• Support your team members in managing member networks including the PSA’s Teaching and Learning Network (TLN) and Early Career Network (ECN), its volunteer convenors (committee members) and programme of communications, resources and events and imbed these as a clear part of our membership offering
• Support your team members in undertaking the election and training of incoming committee members and ensure the development of appropriate procedures and annual actions plans so that they adhere to the byelaws of the association and agreed budgets
• Support the PSA’s trustees with engagement and advocacy concerning Higher Education teaching and learning and the content of Politics courses
• Work with team members to organise and develop the annual PSA undergraduate Conference, and develop a wider programme of work with opportunities to undergraduate students to engage with the PSA
• With support from the team, ensure the effective operation of the PSA’s family of specialist groups in particular the management and growth of their own membership and communications as well as supporting their events and, in liaison with the Finance Manager, their own income and expenditure
• Work with team members, trustees and association members on the provision of developmental activities including mentoring and training programmes.

Delivering the PSA’s Annual Conference, annual lecture, and other events: 

• Devise in consultation with colleagues and trustees, a conference and events strategy for the organisation aimed to bring our community together, further our strategy and maximise revenues. This should include events supporting all membership types, specialist groups and our networks.
• Manage the team responsible for delivery and ensure productive relationships between staff and suppliers as well as academic and commercial partners
• Develop and manage project budgets including the Annual Conference from inception to completion in consultation with team members and the Operations and Finance Team, reporting to the Chief Executive and Trustees.
• Oversee existing systems to monitor progress and expenditure through the regular scrutiny and review of budgets and project plans, from proposal though implementation and delivery
• Support team members in the delivery of PSA’s annual conference and the wider events programme, ensuring that all of these are of the highest quality and linked to the PSA’s wider strategic priorities ensuring all these events are risk-assessed, insured, delivered cost-effectively, on time and to a high professional standard
• Exploit opportunities to increase membership, profile, reach, and income including sponsorship and advertising as well as opportunities to increase inclusion through technology. This will include you and your team building relationships with potential sponsors, advertisers and exhibitors to maximise the opportunities available at PSA events and in our publications including selling sponsorship/stand/exhibition space to potential exhibitors/partners
• Conduct post-event evaluation to ensure continuous improvement and assess impact
• Ensure a pipeline of future annual conferences and other events through effective engagement with trustees and university Politics departments and other stakeholders.

The role:

We are recruiting for an enthusiastic Internal Audit Officer to join our Risk & Assurance team. Reporting to the Internal Audit Lead you will have responsibility for planning and delivering assurance reviews across our school feeding programmes worldwide. As Internal Audit Officer, you will have an amazing opportunity to develop your skills in internal audit, witness first-hand the impact of our feeding programmes and influence the development of processes that ensure we keep our promise to feed each child every school day.

Duties:

The role is primarily focused on planning and delivering work for a structured plan of reviews across the network. As a junior member of the Internal Audit team, you will conduct these reviews and follow up of any agreed actions with the support and coaching of the Internal Audit Lead. This is a remote role however there will be between 5 and 6 audit field trips per year, each lasting between 1-2 weeks, so you must be happy to travel regularly as part of your role.

With the support of the Internal Audit Lead you will have responsibility for mapping the processes under review, assessing the quality of our control frameworks to manage risk and testing the effectiveness of our controls in practice.  This includes:

• Highlighting opportunities with staff to enhance and strengthen the design and operation of existing controls, or to introduce new controls.
• Documenting all fieldwork in a concise, thorough and accurate manner, meeting reperformance standards for all controls testing.
• Drafting high-quality reports to summarise findings and make clear recommendations.
• Providing ongoing support to local management teams around implementation of agreed actions.
• Assessing and challenging, based on provided evidence, whether agreed actions have been effectively implemented by staff by the deadlines set.

About you:

A self- starter, you will be passionate about collaborating with others to drive continuous improvement and to develop practical solutions.  The ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues in different countries and settings, will be key to success in this role. With fantastic communication skills, both written and verbal, you will be confident in imparting your findings and recommendations in person, over the phone and via concise, high-quality reports.

1-2 years audit experience and good knowledge of the charity sector would be desirable but not essential. We will offer comprehensive training to candidates who are aligned to our values, passionate about our work and can demonstrate relevant experience of, working collaboratively with stakeholders, analysing large quantities of data and producing detailed reports. You must have a strong, analytical approach with the confidence to make objective decisions and challenge where needed.

The Senior Community Engagement Officer will be responsible for developing and delivering a two-year programme of activities and events at Crystal Palace Park as part of our National Lottery Heritage Funded activity plan to engage and involve existing and new audiences of the park, ensuring we are building relationships and listening to our communities.

About the role

The postholder will work with the Senior Community Programmes Manager to establish and deliver a new programme of activities, events and community engagement at the park. You will also work as part of the project team that includes a new Senior Volunteer Officer. 

The role is offered on a two year fixed term contract with Crystal Palace Park Trust. Any extension after 31 December 2026 is subject to funding. 

This role is funded by the NLHF as part of a partnership project between Crystal Palace Park Trust and the London Borough of Bromley.

About the Job 

The Director of Farm Programmes Quality and Partnerships is responsible for all aspects of quality programme implementation at Better Cotton small holders countries including development of programme designs and strategies, programme 

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring development of high quality, evidence based, high impact, innovative programmes that deliver immediate and lasting changes in the small holders farming communities Better Cotton works in. S/he is responsible to ensure the compliance with technical standards in programme design and implementation. Primary (but not exclusively) this role will focus on programmes in China, Pakistan, India, Mozambique and other small holders’ countries. 

In addition, the Director of Farm Programmes Quality and Partnerships will lead the global partnerships team and will be responsible for setting up Partnership Management Standards, supporting capacity of teams in project cycle management and supporting Better Cotton’s network of partners to ensure that their programme delivery is of high quality and integrity.

Programme Quality and Management

• Accountability for quality and progressive improvement of Better Cotton global programme delivery.
• Support country teams to develop country programme strategies, programme designs and operating plans, including annual plans and budgeting.
• Ensure globally coherent programme design by supporting in-country programme teams, in collaboration with other teams/functions such as: assurance, monitoring & evaluation, and supply chain.

Job Summary

CAAS provide an ADHD and Autism Support Service for the 8 boroughs of NW London, from our base in Eastcote, with a team of Support Workers.  Our work includes offering information, advice, and support to ADHD / autistic people, their families, and professionals in NW London, with the aim of improving quality of life and developing neurodiverse-aware communities.  Some of the support is offered through one2one meetings, some of the support is provided through groups and courses which aim to increase understanding and awareness, and provide opportunities for peer support, and some of the support is offered through training and workshops to educate professionals and drive for accommodations to be made to services to allow greater access for our client group.

The Family Team Lead will assist the Family Service Manager in overseeing the operational running and leadership and management of our Family Team at our centre in Eastcote.

The Family Team Lead will be responsible for the line management of some of our Family Support Workers, as well as the direct delivery of services, including being the lead facilitator on some of our parenting courses.  As such, we are looking for a friendly, organised and hard-working individual. The role requires strong administrative skills, excellent communication skills and a drive to ensure everyone who seeks support from us has the best possible experience. This role takes responsibility for developing and implementing financial strategies, managing budgets, forecasting, and financial risk, as well as ensuring accurate financial records and reporting for both internal and external stakeholders. The Head of Finance works closely with SLT to align financial planning with the charity's mission and business plan, provides financial insights for decision-making, and ensures that funding is managed efficiently to maximise impact. Additionally, they line manage the finance team and liaise with auditors, HMRC, pension bodies and fundraising stakeholders as required.

Key Duties/ Responsibilities:

Strategic Purpose:

• Oversee the financial operations of the charity
• Implement robust internal financial controls and compliance with the Charity’s accounting/finance policies and procedures
• Responsibility for compiling annual budgets, 3-yr forecasts (budgets, cashflows, reserves)
• Provide strategic advice to the trustees on all aspects of finance and taxation

Engagement:

• Collaborate with HR to ensure delivery of payroll
• Act as first POC with the bank for all banking matters
• Work with HMRC on PAYE, VAT and Corporation tax issues
• Line manage the Finance Team
• Be the "technical expert" across the Finance function, advising on best practice and the application of accounting standards across the business
• Working with the finance team to implement systems/processes to prevent errors in data collection and calculations
• Support with the income related activities of the Fundraising and Business Development teams
• Preparing timely and accurate financial information reports to senior executives, stakeholders, and board members.

Delivery:

• Responsible for cash management, and manage cash flow by tracking transactions and regularly reviewing internal reports to inform working capital requirements
• Monitoring ongoing budgetary performance and efficiency and the production of monthly management accounts
• Responsibility for financial postings to the charity accounting system
• Manage all aspects of financial management and ensure financial procedures, policies and systems are up to date and fit-for-purpose
• Claiming gift aid in a timely manner
• Submitting the monthly pension file to the Pension Administrator in a timely manner
• Process all payments to suppliers, staff and HMRC in a timely manner
• Deliver an efficient month-end and year-end process
• Continuously improve the accounting systems, including payroll and invoicing
• Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported
• Lead the audit process, working with auditing services to ensure proper compliance with all regulations
• Preparing and submitting the VAT return for the charity on a quarterly basis
• Filing corporation tax, charity and Companies House returns
• Undertake any finance-related activities necessary to support the charity
• Providing financial training for non-financial managers

Skills /Experience / Knowledge:

Essential:

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Proven experience in a senior finance role, with knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial risk management
• Experience working in the charity sector, with a strong understanding of charity accounting standards and relevant tax regulations
• Ability to oversee cash flow, financial transactions, and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Experience with HMRC compliance, pension administration, and ensuring regulatory adherence
• Proficiency in financial reporting, including producing management accounts and presenting to stakeholders.
• Experience in line management
• Strong interpersonal skills

Desirable

• Proficiency with Xero accounting software and financial systems
• Strong IT skills
• Strong collaboration skills with internal teams

We’re looking for a new STH Practitioner to provide high quality and effective Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH) programmes for adults in our gardens in Battersea Park and outreach settings. Working alongside volunteers this role will support people with learning disabilities, autism, long term health conditions or other disabilities.

Based at Thrive London in Battersea Park. The role will involve some work undertaken off-site in London and occasional travel to the Thrive Centres in Reading and Birmingham.
