We are recruiting for a Service Manager who is passionate about supporting survivors who are impacted by domestic abuse and other gender-based crimes. This is a multifaceted, fast paced, and exciting role where you will join our team in Derby to lead on the delivery and development of high-quality refuge and outreach services for survivors of domestic abuse and other gender-based crimes. 

The post holder will provide line management and high-quality support to the direct reports in line with Refuge’s policies and procedures. This will include providing supervision on complex and high-risk cases, overseeing operational emergencies, and ensuring high standards of casework. The Service Manager will lead on the delivery of the multiagency aspect of work, working jointly with the Refuge teams and wider stakeholders to deliver best services to the survivors. 

Candidates must have proven experience of providing direct emotional and practical support to vulnerable people, managing, and motivating staff, managing casework as well as working within multiagency setting.  In addition, you must have an excellent knowledge of domestic abuse and other gender-based violence and its impact on survivors.  You will have knowledge of relevant Criminal and Civil law legislation, as well as Housing and Health and Safety legislation.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

• To be confident in building management and deal with trades people.
• Financial management skills to be able to manage a facilities budget (overseen by the site manager) and ensure value-based budgeting. You will work to a high degree of accuracy, flexibility, confidentiality and discretion.
• Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems, including legal compliance, quality management and sustainability of a site.
• Ability to effectively use RSPB systems including eBIS and Assemble. Also, knowledge of IT and network systems is useful.
• Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
• A facilities management qualification or equivalent.
• Natural history knowledge and knowledge of conservation issues and priorities

About You
The Policy and Engagement Manager is responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of the Society’s growing policy and engagement programme.

This role will report to the Head of Engagement and Storytelling, with managerial responsibilties for the Policy and Engagement Officer, and will have responsibility for leading the development and coordination of key strategic policy and engagement activities, including progressing external scientific and higher education policy for the Society and promoting the importance of engaging in policy-making to members of the Society.

Suitable candidates will have experience in developing evidence-based policy, including in research, innovation and higher education policy. They will also have excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to manage and build effective relationships with key stakeholders engaging in the Society’s activities.
