Oak National Academy is an independent public body, funded by the Department for Education. We help improve the quality of curriculum teachers teach and pupils access, and lower teacher workload from lesson planning. We achieve this by providing free access to thousands of teacher-made, fully-sequenced teaching resources, aligned to the national curriculum, and inspiration and advice for schools on how to design their own curriculum.

We are looking for new members to join our Board as Non-Executive Directors. The role will require a commitment of up to 20 days per year (with some in-person meetings in London). Remuneration at the rate of £316 per day.

Specifically, we are looking to recruit:

• A permanent Board member with education and curriculum expertise
• A permanent Board member with digital and technology expertise

Board members will also join one of the Board’s sub-committees

The new Board members will work to support the Chair to develop our strategy and support and hold the executive team to account for its delivery. This includes supporting Oak National Academy to achieve its objective of advancing the education of learners of all ages (and those supporting them), improving pupil outcomes and closing the disadvantage gap.

Responsibilities

• Work effectively with Board members to develop a successful strategy which ensures Oak has a positive impact and achieves its objectives.
• Monitor performance against agreed targets and provide support, advice and challenge to the executive team on their delivery.
• Ensure the Board and Committees operate within the limits of its authority, including in accordance with the Nolan Principles and the code of conduct for board members of public bodies, and abiding to conditions relating to the use of public funds. This includes being seen as politically impartial and consideration of conflicts of interest.
• Ensure high standards of corporate governance are observed at all times.
• Participate in and/or chair committees of the Board, as required by the Chair.

Knowledge, skills, and experience

• The ability to make strategic, evidenced based decisions by drawing on and applying the latest information or research.
• Exceptional communication skills to support the ability to build effective relationships at senior level and/or between organisations.
• The ability to drive forward the work of an organisation at non-executive level, with a successful track record in the public, voluntary or private sectors of ensuring that strategic objectives are achieved.

Reporting to the Director of Operations and working closely with the National Leadership Team representative for national events, you will manage the events team to deliver excellent service and event support for all New Wine events. This exciting role involves overseeing all aspects of event production, from content development to logistics and delegate management. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the strategic vision and goals of the events are realised, delivering an outstanding experience for global audiences. 

The Events Team exists to support New Wine delegates, volunteers, and staff with the initial planning, coordination, and delivery of all New Wine events held throughout the year. This includes two annual national events, the New Wine Festival and the New Wine Leadership Conference, as well as a number of smaller events such as the Reset Women’s Conference, Worship Nights, and Network Days. 

Areas of Responsibility:

Event Team Leadership: 

• Line manage, train, and develop the events team, which consists of 5 individuals (one vacant), 3 of whom are direct reports. 

• Motivate the team, communicating effectively and building relationships internally and externally with key stakeholders and partners. 

• Set appropriate goals and key performance indicators (KPIs), managing them effectively to drive activity and performance. 

• Join the core team in regular meetings, updating and chairing event specific discussions.  

• Coordinating with other departments to rethink processes and strategy. 
   

Event Planning: 

• Manage and oversee the New Wine events calendar to ensure that events are planned in a coordinated manner.

• Liaise with specific event leadership teams to determine the vision, goals, and requirements for each New Wine event. 

• Set up and chair event planning meetings for national events, monitoring that planning is on schedule and within budget. 

• Support Event Managers in the planning and delivery of smaller events. 

• Manage external consultants and professionals who support with delivery of events including Production Project Manager and Technical Production Manager. 
   

Event Delivery: 

• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. 

• Oversee the production, delegate and team experience on-site at any New Wine event. This includes managing the Production Project manager, front desk service team and back-office functions such as ticketing, accommodation, village allocation, telephone and email response, and volunteer team leader oversight and engagement.

As a Research and Insight Analyst at the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC), you will be a key member of the Analysis and Insights (A&I) team, dedicated to empowering the NFCC and UK Fire and Rescue Services with actionable insights that drive informed decision-making. You will work collaboratively with a team of research and data analysis professionals to support the team's objectives and contribute to the wider goals of the NFCC.

Your role will involve using your skills to deliver valuable insights through effective information gathering, detailed analysis, and comprehensive reporting. You will work on both routine and ad-hoc projects, supporting the team in responding to major events within the fire and rescue sector.

Key responsibilities of a Research & Insight Analyst:

Following the processes and policies set out in the A&I team’s terms of reference document, to ensure high quality, consistent approaches to all work.

Designing and executing information gathering exercises, ensuring that they are clear, easy to understand and will yield the information required to produce the identified output.

Information gathering methods primarily include designing online survey tools and question sets but can also include workshops, interviews and focus groups.

Ensuring the validation and quality assurance of any information gathered to ensure that all insights gathered are accurate and statistically significant.

Interpreting findings and drawing meaningful conclusions using quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques.

Producing clear, concise and well-structured outputs, utilising visualisations to enhance understanding and engagement when presenting to stakeholders. These outputs could be developed using MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, PowerBI or similar.

Ensuring the Strategic Improvement Model (SIM) is kept up to date by reviewing and analysing reports about UK FRSs (from the inspectorate (HMICFRS), major inquiry reports, independently commissioned reports and other sources.

Supporting the work of the NFCC Organisational Learning team and ACER (Academic, Collaboration, Evaluation and Research) Group

Familiarity with research methodologies and outputs, such as literature reviews, and using them to identify trends, gaps, and best practices

Assisting as required when the A&I team is commissioned to support work related to major events or incidents

Assisting as required with team administrative duties

The successful candidate will have:

Experience working as a research analyst, or equivalent

Excellent qualitative research skills, including survey question design, and thematic analysis.

Excellent presentation skills with the ability to design and develop engaging outputs

The Head of Fundraising is an exciting new role developed for the Society to increase fundraising and develop additional income streams to enhance the sustainability of the Society. They will help deliver the Transformation Plan, an exciting new project for Scotland’s oldest learned antiquarian Society to help deliver the Society’s vision: “Scotland’s past is for everyone to research, share, enjoy and protect, home and abroad”.

The Transformation Plan includes the acquisition and redevelopment of a B-listed building in central Edinburgh to co-create the most inclusive, low-carbon and heritage-rich space to work, visit and participate. This will become a heritage hub for Scotland’s past, helping to bring heritage alive for a wide range of public audiences. This role will provide the necessary vision, leadership, and fundraising skills which will enable the Society to achieve its fundraising targets and enhance its development program.

They will be an effective fundraiser and key contact for grant giving organisations, personal donations and legacies. They will report directly to the Director sharing collective responsibility to deliver the Society’s strategy and vision.

Initially on a 2.5-year fixed term contract, with the possibility of extension subject to funding, the post will work as part of the senior management team and liaise directly with staff, Councillors (trustees), members (known as Fellows) and other organisations and individuals to ensure the successful delivery of their responsibilities.

The post will have the following immediate priorities:

· Helping develop and submit a major stage one Development Phase National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) grant application in collaboration with the Director and others, creating an engaging and successful proposal and case for support (part of an overall c£6m Transformation Plan project)

· Development and delivery of a major fundraising campaign based on personal giving, grant applications and other fundraising activities

· Working with staff and Councillors to develop the required transformation of the Society to deliver maximum public benefit in line with the Society’s vision and mission

· Line managing staff as required

Main Responsibilities

Strategy and planning

· Development and delivery of a fundraising campaign (including grant funding, individual and organisational donations, and other fundraising activities) for a c£6m project, setting targets in collaboration with the Director and meeting them, creating engaging and successful proposals and cases for support

· Lead the annual fundraising planning process to produce effective strategies to achieve income targets across a range of revenue streams

· In cooperation with the Director, lead the development of a long-term fundraising strategy to achieve agreed long term Society goals and vision

· Identify new potential income streams and produce strategies to access these funds

Fundraising

· Build and manage an effective fundraising team (across the Society staff and volunteers as required) that delivers fundraising income meeting set targets

· Oversee the management of a grant and trust income programme, supporting staff as necessary and ensuring production of effective, high-quality proposals and reports

· Oversee the management of an individual giving programme, supporting staff as necessary and ensuring production of effective, high-quality donor development and reports

· Lead on development of new funding streams

· Develop and maintain effective supporter journeys for the development of relationships and retention

Senior Management

The Head of Fundraising is a member of the Society’s Senior Management Team (SMT) and as such the post-holder will be expected to play a proactive role in the management of the Society including:

· Organisational strategic planning and development

· Income and expenditure budget planning and management

· Advising members of SMT on the availability of funds and the viability of obtaining funds to support initiatives

· Contribute to leadership decisions on all aspects of policy, development and organisation

· Playing a significant role in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of Society strategy and action plans

· To participate as an active member of the SMT, attending meetings and producing reports as required

· Attending Finance, Audit and Risk Committee meetings to report and give advice on fundraising matters

· Attending and participating in Council (trustee meetings) and producing reports as required

· Contribute to establishing and delivering on the core values of the Society

Person Specification

The Head of Fundraising will have substantial fundraising and management experience, a talent for building relationships and a proven track record in securing funds from statutory sources, foundations, trusts and major donors. They will be a key contact for grant giving organisations, personal donations and legacies. They will report directly to the Director sharing collective responsibility to deliver the Society’s strategy and vision. As such they will need the following:

Requirements - essential

· At least three years’ experience in a similar role

· Demonstrable record of major capital fundraising leadership and delivery, ideally within a charitable organisation but others will be considered

· A track record of successful fundraising, including sizeable NLHF applications

· Experience of utilising the strength of an organisational brand for charity/business development

· Proven track record of meeting challenging income targets

· Proven ability to build, manage and develop key stakeholder, client and donor relationships including developing and managing individual donors and development of legacy giving

· Experience of developing and implementing strategic and business plans

· Strong leadership skills

· Track record of bringing innovative creative thinking and fresh ideas to an organisation and/or its services

· Knowledge of the fundraising environment including regulations around due diligence and compliance

Further Information

This post is an initial 2.5-year (30 month) full-time contract which will be extendible subject to funding. There will be a short probationary period during which time your skills and suitability for the position will be assessed. Development of fundraising for the Transformation Plan will be the immediate priority. A lot of work has already been undertaken by the Society in preparing for an NLHF application as part of this, but the skill and experience of this post will ensure it has the maximum chance of success. This will include liaising with others, including NLHF staff and our consultants, the More Partnership.

The tasks and role will develop in line with the requirements in that application and the implementation of the Transformation Plan and will be reviewed after the submission of the initial NLHF bid. However, the core responsibilities will remain the development and delivery of successful fundraising strategies, increasing income to the Society.

· Working alongside the Director of Finance, support the preparation of budgets for tenders and fundraising.

· Ensure all our income generation activity is compliant with fundraising governance and legislation, including GDPR, PECR, and the Code of Fundraising Practice, and ensure our systems and processes (including the database and reporting) are compliant and fit for purpose in Business Development.

Research in Practice is part of the National Children’s Bureau (NCB) family. For over 60 years, the NCB has been building a better childhood for all.

Research in Practice works with organisations across the children and adults social care, health and criminal justice sectors, supporting them to develop an evidence-informed approach to their work. Our focus is on using evidence from research, practice and lived experience, to provide resources that improve policy and services, to achieve positive outcomes for people of all ages.

What we do 

LawWorks is the operating name of the Solicitors Pro Bono Group. We are a charity, and our aim is to enable access to justice through supporting and developing the contribution of legal pro bono.

With support from the Law Society of England and Wales, we encourage, facilitate and celebrate pro bono across the solicitor profession and at law schools in England and Wales.

Who we work with 

We work primarily with solicitors (firms and in-house teams), and also with law schools and law students, and other legal and non-legal volunteers and organisations.

LawWorks has around 150 member organisations including some of the largest City firms and international firms with an office in London, national, regional and local firms, in-house teams, law schools and charities.

Who we are 

LawWorks is a relatively small organisation with 18 members of staff (5 full-time) and a small team of volunteers and interns.  We operate a flexible working policy, with several members of staff working hybrid, or where appropriate, from home.

Our projects 

There are a number of key strands to our work to support and facilitate pro bono:

• we support a growing network of around 300 local independent pro bono advice clinics across England and Wales. We work with lawyers, advice agencies, charities and others to establish or develop new clinics, and provide ongoing information and support, training and resources, for clinic volunteers and coordinators; 

• our Not-for-Profits Programme facilitates the provision of free legal advice for smaller charities and not-for-profit organisations, supported by volunteer lawyers from LawWorks’ members; 

• our Secondary Specialisation Programme supports the development of more ‘in-depth’ pro bono in areas of social welfare law.  This currently includes an unpaid wages project and ‘Voices for Families’, with the charity Together for Short Lives, supporting parents and carers of children with life-limiting conditions;

• we support collaborative projects including: Pro Bono Connect: a project which facilitates barristers and solicitors working together on pro bono cases; the Domestic Abuse Response Alliance and IP Pro Bono. 

• we have launched new online tools and digital platforms including a website called ‘Free Legal Answers’ and the Pro Bono Portal UK (with Justice Connect, an Australian access to justice charity). 

In addition to encouraging and supporting pro bono delivery, we also work to address barriers to justice and to provide a ‘policy voice’ for pro bono - for example, working to address regulatory and other barriers to pro bono volunteering, and working with our members and others to influence policy on legal aid and other aspects of access to justice.

The role 

Our experience in the different regions in England and Wales has shown the valueof having staff based locally to support pro bono initiatives, develop new pro bono opportunities and to increase engagement from the local legal profession. 

This role will include helping to develop and support your own set of clinics, building on existing relationships in the Southwest or North of England.  You will work with our members and the local advice sector to support the development of new pro bono clinics to meet unmet legal needs. We take an innovative, tailored approach to the support we provide, and you will provide one-to one support for individual clinics, allowing you to identify and address need, providing help with insurance, regulatory queries, finding volunteers and access to online tools.

A small part of the role (1 day per week) will involve working closely with the part-time Engagement & Training Officer (Wales) focusing on expanding stakeholder engagement to increase the number of independent legal advice clinics in Wales and promote pro bono involvement by the legal profession. You will work to identify and engage new stakeholders, develop training sessions and support impact monitoring. This role will also work closely with the Clinic Support and Development Officer (Wales), who acts as the first point of contact for guidance and support for clinics in Wales. 

Key priorities for this role will be: 

• To provide guidance and support to independent pro bono clinics registered with the LawWorks Clinics Network in the Southwest or North of England; 

• To increase the number of individuals in Southwest or North England provided with free legal advice at clinics in the LawWorks Clinics Network by identifying opportunities for new pro bono advice clinics, supporting local stakeholders to develop new services to meet unmet legal needs in their area; 

• To support and grow pro bono volunteering and LawWorks’ membership (e.g., law firms and in-house legal teams); 

• To identify the training needs of LawWorks’ members, clinics and their volunteers in Southwest or North England, working with colleagues to arrange regional training and other events. 

• To support the Engagement & Training Officer (Wales) with the delivery of the training plan in Wales. 

• To lead on communications with LawWorks’ members, clinics and their volunteers in Southwest or North England. 

We are looking for a confident networker who is able to identify opportunities andestablish new partnerships. All of LawWorks’ work is delivered through partnerships so it is essential that the candidate is personable, collaborative and an effective communicator. 

A background in the legal or advice sector will be an advantage, but not essential - training and support will be provided for someone from another sector who is passionate about pro bono and access to justice and willing to learn. Experience of managing multiple projects and seeing them through to completion will also be an advantage.

The Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) has an international award-winning reputation in heritage conservation and regeneration for its own estate. For this reason CCT has been contracted to deliver a programme of work for Historic Chapels Trust (HCT). HCT owns and cares for 20 of the most significant Nonconformist and Catholic chapels no longer in regular use by their congregations, all listed at Grade I and Grade II*.  Key to the project is management of the assets, funded by the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) through their Cultural Assets Fund (CAF).

As a member of CCT’s national Conservation team you will be the main point of contact for all chapel maintenance related issues, liaising closely with contractors, local groups and volunteers. Alongside the Conservation Projects Manager for Chapels you will deliver the maintenance programme, including regulatory and legal compliance, as well as deal with utilities and insurance of chapels. 10 of the chapels are in our North region, 6 in our West region and 4 are in our South East region.

You will have previous experience in the field of historic buildings maintenance, repair or property management. You will be an effective communicator, be able to plan and deliver your own workload and also work as part of a team. As you’ll be working at chapels throughout England it is essential you have a full driving licence.
