Job description

We’re seeking an individual to join our tenancy support service as a Roma Worker. You’ll deliver culturally sensitive and specific support to people from the Roma Community who have recently moved into their own private rented accommodation, often for the first time. Your mission will be to deliver targeted and specialist casework support to support people from the Roma Community to positively sustain independent accommodation and avoid a return to homelessness.

About the role:

As the Roma Worker you’ll lead on delivering initial assessments with new clients from the Roma Community. You’ll identify the needs that clients may have in improving their physical and mental health, reducing their isolation, and in maximising their income and financial resilience. Working together with clients and partner services, you’ll agree an initial support and safety plan with new clients, identifying SHP and community services and resources that can help clients to meet their goals and aspirations, and connecting clients to these services.

You’ll assist new clients to resettle into private rented accommodation that they’ve moved into, delivering practical support including with paying rent / bills, setting up and managing utilities, and liaising with housing providers. You’ll co-ordinate and co-deliver support in partnership with external specialist Roma Support Services.

About you:

  • Understanding, experience or willingness to learn of the specific needs of Roma clients, and of Roma Culture
  • Ability to use Romanian /Romanese or related language to communicate with Roma clients, or ability to access appropriate resources to achieve this
  • understanding of client needs assessment and resettlement into new Private Rented Accommodation
  • Understanding, experience or willingness to learn in supporting clients to improve and better manage their physical and mental health and wellbeing
  • Strong team-working and interpersonal skills, maintaining a collaborative approach to delivering service objectives
  • An understanding of the principles underlying a quality and customer focussed service with the proven ability to empower service users.
  • The ability to be self-motivating, work under pressure and manage time effectively, prioritising different areas of work according to need.

About us:

Join us in creating a brighter, more hopeful future for individuals.
