About Shooting Star Children’s Hospices

We have an exciting opportunity for an Events Assistant to join our Family Support Team at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices provides specialist care and support to families who have a baby, child or young person with a life-limiting condition, or whose child has died. Rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, we support families across Surrey, north-west London and south-west London from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.

Our Care Events team provide an extensive programme of groups and events for the 750+ life-limited children, their families and bereaved families. There are themed family events, social groups for siblings of different ages, pamper days for mums, counselling groups, memorial days and many festive events such as ice-skating at Hampton Court. There are 3-4 events each week, making many opportunities for families to make memories together.

About the role

In this role you will co-ordinate the production of the events. You will lead the design of specific events and to be on team at several events, engaging with, supporting and welcoming families. Tasks include team prep meetings, shopping for resources, risk assessment, creating Eventbrite and webpages, inviting families, prepping, hosting the event and follow-up feedback. Events take place at our hospices and in the community across our catchment.

The Events Assistant is part of our Psychosocial Services and will hear about current families in need, including end-of-life children who may require a wish organised (such as their room decorated in a special theme, or a trip out to a favourite, magical place). The Events Assistant will help think about which events may be helpful to families referred. 

The ambition of our strategy is to ensure every family affected by a life-limiting condition, or the sudden death of a child, has access to the specialist care that they need. This includes providing opportunities for children and family members to meet others who have experienced this. Our events programme is key to this success. 

About you

This role requires experience of working with children and families, and the passion to add sparkle to the lives of those we support. We are looking for someone who enjoys the buzz of a party, who is able to help create joyful memories for our families. The individual in this role needs to be organised, able to multi-task (planning multiple events at once) and good at working in a fast-paced environment. You should be someone sensitive to the needs of families, comfortable supporting families experiencing incredibly challenging times, willing to listen and care.

Once or twice a month the Events Assistant is asked to lead an event on a Saturday or Sunday.

Purpose of the Role:

The primary objective of this role is to champion and support local authorities and registered social housing providers in their efforts to achieve DAHA accreditation. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the wider Standing Together Housing Team to foster and maintain strong relationships with both strategic and operational housing partners. Additionally, they will play a key role in driving the development of new housing initiatives and responses to domestic abuse, ensuring continuous improvement in support for those affected. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Engage regional housing providers and local authorities to promote DAHA accreditation, supporting them through the process.
• Organise and deliver workshops and webinars on DAHA standards, ensuring ongoing education.
• Advocate for DAHA membership, managing membership agreements and ensuring successful delivery.
• Independently monitor and evaluate the accreditation process, identifying areas for improvement.
• Deliver DAHA training sessions as needed, meeting the specific needs of housing providers and local authorities.

Responsibilities:

• Perform month-end and year-end closings, including journal preparation, accruals, and finalising accounts in Sage.
• Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly, including agreeing on inter-charity balances within the group.
• Conduct profit and loss (P&L) reviews, ensuring the accuracy and understanding of monthly financial results.
• Prepare and deliver monthly financial reports to managers across the organisation, while assisting in the development of new reporting processes as needed.
• Participate in the annual budget preparation process and provide ad-hoc reporting (e.g., ONS, Charity Commission returns).

Your key purpose will be manage and develop our online retail operation  to drive profit and grow income to support the hospices and retail strategy. Responsibilities include optimising our current eBay operations and developing the Hospice’s online retail presence into multi-channel sales, increasing the profitability of all online sales. In time there may be the requirement to develop a dedicated SSCH online website.

About you

This role requires proven experience of trading on eBay and other online platforms and a

A minimum of 2 years working at a mid-senior level in an e-commerce role is essential to this role as is a proactive and problem solving attitude. Experience of working in the charity retail sector and managing a team of volunteers is also desirable.

You will also have an ability to develop our Ecommerce strategy and have strong commercial acumen and understanding of online selling. You will possess excellent management skills and have good verbal and written communication skills together with a

basic technical understanding of the architecture of an ecommerce website and good knowledge of MS Office, Excel, Google Analytics, SEO, online advertising platforms eg  AdWord

Support Network Coordinator (South Central)
Salary: £27,343 per annum (FTE £34,178 per annum)
Location: Home based - Living within Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire or Oxfordshire

Hours: 28 hours per week (0.8 FTE)

We are seeking an additional Support Network Coordinator to cover the South Central region (Beds, Berks, Bucks, Herts, Northants and Oxon).

Please note for this role it is essential that an applicant has an SCI or CES, and lives in the specified counties.

Each of the Support Network Coordinators have the responsibility for delivering, maintaining, and expanding the support services available to SCI people and their families in their region of the UK.

The post coordinates two vital parallel strands:

• In your region, to reach and support newly and long-term spinal cord injured people and their families:​
  • Developing a strong partnership with all available specialist services, charity and business partners; managing a dedicated team of volunteers as well as providing direct support to SCI people with more complex needs.
• Nationally, working to facilitate the link between SCI people and the network of services:
  • Referring SCI people and their families to our clinical/health expert support teams and advocacy services; working with the Digital Engagement team to build on-line links to regional partners in your area; supporting fundraising, campaigns and communications.

The Role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the role of the Income Processing and Sales Ledger Officer is to support the day to day operation of the Finance and Fundraising functions, which are essential to our ability to deliver on our charitable objectives.

In this role you will be responsible for managing and processing donations, processing of other income and receipts, completion of income side bank reconciliations, management of aged debtors and other sales ledger related tasks, processing of Direct Debits, plus completion of other ad-hoc tasks and provision of general administration support.

The successful candidate will need be able to work to deadlines and have strong basic skills in admin, organisation, and IT. The nature of the role requires someone who is able to manage confidential data, is highly numerate and is a problem solver.

This role would best suit someone with previous related experience and knowledge of working in finance, accounting and administration, ideally bringing existing sales ledger knowledge, however applications are also welcomed from those with the required basic skills

Work Location/Hybrid Working Pattern

This role will be based at our Head Office in central London. Mothers’ Union operates a hybrid working model. This role requires an average 2.5 days a week in the office minimum (115 days minimum per year) given the nature of the job. There will be in blocks in the fundraising area, mainly around appeals (3 or 4 blocks a year), where the successful candidate be expected to come into the office 7 or 8 days in a row.

Apart from that, Tuesdays are our anchor days where every staff member is expected to be at the office. The 115 days includes anchor Tuesdays. In addition, Thursday is a core working day where part time staff are expected to work, either at home or from the office as needed.
