We’re looking for a Selection Officer to join our award-winning team to deliver our selection processes to enable us to achieve our ambitious mission. You will be responsible for ensuring all candidates are assessed consistently and fairly throughout each stage (application form, online immersive assessment and digital assessment centre) so that we can ensure we recruit talented and diverse individuals committed to the Police Now mission for each of our core programmes.
This is a fast-paced and varied role that will involve working closely with applicants throughout the candidate journey, alongside various internal and external stakeholders, to ensure we meet our targets. Your responsibilities will include delivering selection activity including assessment centres, and quality assuring our selection outcomes. You will be dedicated to delivering an excellent candidate experience at every stage of the selection journey to ensure all candidates have a positive experience with Police Now regardless of the outcome.
Alongside operational delivery, you will work closely with the Recruitment Delivery Manager and Head of Recruitment on future evolutions to our selection processes to ensure we remain market-leading in our approach. This includes designing content, piloting new activities and using data and evaluation to inform future developments and improvements.
Key responsibilities
- Work collaboratively within our Recruitment Delivery sub-team of eight, contributing to a high-performance culture and ensuring a high-quality candidate experience.
- Take a lead role in screening and assessing applicants against the necessary skills and attributes to join a Police Now programme. This includes all stages of the selection process – application form, online immersive assessment and digital assessment centre. Act as a contact point for candidate queries to support them through their application journey and probe for further information related to their eligibility when required.
- Oversee the running of assessment centres in the role of the assessment centre facilitator and/or manager to ensure all candidates receive a positive candidate experience and work with assessors to ensure consistent and fair assessment assessed across all exercises. Ensure timetables are created through our digital platform so all participants and assessors have the information required for their involvement in the assessment centres.
- Act as a main point of contact for assessors and actors, dealing with queries and overseeing scheduling and invoicing. You will also provide training and onboarding for new assessors when required.
- Oversee progress towards specific candidate pipeline targets, flagging areas of concern with a focus on under-represented groups within policing, and implement actions as required to exceed target expectations. Develop and deliver pipeline interventions such as unsubmitted application calls, pre-assessment centre phone calls, group coaching sessions and other tailored communications, so that candidates are fully prepared for each stage of the selection process.
- Support and lead on projects related to process improvement, content design and candidate journey and assessment evolution. This will involve working on developments to our assessment activities and materials when required, gaining stakeholder input into selection criteria and testing new methodology to ensure rigour. Conduct ongoing analysis of parts of the selection process, as well as end of campaign analysis, communicating outputs to relevant stakeholders.

- There will be a requirement for set days to be worked within the office (approximately 2-3 days per week), or stated venues, to support with the running and delivery of events, as well as infrequent travel nationwide. Assessment centres are delivered digitally but may require flex to working hours including earlier starts, later finishes and occasionally Saturdays (time off in lieu provided).

You will be responsible for recruiting and supporting a large pipeline of candidates across our three core programmes. This is a fast-paced and varied role that will involve working closely with candidates alongside various internal and external stakeholders to ensure we meet our targets. You’ll act as the go-to person for candidates throughout their application journey, delivering an excellent candidate experience and supporting them throughout each stage of the recruitment and onboarding process until they start on our programme. You will also act as the dedicated recruitment link to a number of our partner forces, working collaboratively with force HR and Talent Acquisition teams to ensure a smooth onboarding experience.

You will build relationships with them, engaging and supporting them through each stage with regular quality communication, persuasive techniques and relationship management skills.
- Develop and deliver recruitment pipeline interventions such as pre-assessment centre phone-calls, un-submitted application calls, group coaching sessions and other tailored communications, so that candidates are fully prepared for each stage of the application and selection process.
- Oversee progress towards specific candidate pipeline targets, flagging areas of concern with a focus on under-represented groups and escalating and implementing actions as required in order to exceed target expectations.
- Act as the main point of contact for successful candidates throughout their lengthy onboarding journey, ensuring they remain engaged and enthusiastic about joining Police Now’s programme and resolving any barriers they may face.
- Work closely with a number of our partner police forces, being the main point of contact for in-house force HR and Recruitment teams. You will collaborate to build strong relationships to ensure every single candidate progresses quickly and smoothly through the post offer processes, including vetting, medical, fitness, as well as referencing and degree checking.
- Support and lead on specific recruitment projects related to process improvement, content design and candidate journey evolution. This will involve working on developments to our internal functions and processes, onboarding strategy and force implementation strategy.
- Conduct ongoing analysis as well as end of campaign evaluations of parts of the recruitment and onboarding process and communicate outputs to relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain oversight and updates of candidate progress through each stage of recruitment and onboarding via our applicant tracking systems, taking care to ensure accuracy.
- Support with the planning and delivery of Police Now and force events, such as regular virtual drop-in sessions, the Police Now induction event and force induction events.

We’re looking for a Recruitment Operations Coordinator to join our award-winning team to support the operational delivery of the recruitment, selection and onboarding processes for all Police Now programmes, to enable us to achieve our ambitious mission.
You will provide comprehensive data and reporting, administrative, candidate and project support to aid the day-to-day delivery of the Police Now Recruitment team. You will be dedicated to delivering an excellent candidate experience throughout the entire candidate journey, as well as being the main point of contact for queries via email, live chat and phone. You will be involved in a range of projects throughout the recruitment yearly cycle from creating and maintaining our departmental reporting dashboards, to application screening and conducting compliance referencing and qualification checks for our offer holders. You’ll also be one of the core team members responsible for welcoming candidates to our digital assessment centres and facilitating the sessions to ensure they runs smoothly.
Key responsibilities
- Candidate experience will be at the heart of all you do, and you will support the team with their work with candidates throughout the application journey. This will include screening candidate applications, contacting candidates for further information, providing support throughout each stage of the process where required and conducting onboarding compliance checks, such as referencing and degree certificate verification.
- You will be part of a team of Coordinators who maintain oversight of our busy inboxes and online live chat to respond to candidate queries. Together you will also facilitate assessment centres and support with running onboarding and attraction events. This will include organisation of events, managing bookings, preparing materials, delivering presentations and welcoming and being one of the main points of contact for attendees on the day, whether online or in person.
- Delivering key projects throughout the recruitment yearly cycle, including responsibility for creating, maintaining and updating our departmental candidate journey mapping and reporting dashboards through Microsoft Excel, as well as conducting ad hoc data requests for internal and external stakeholders. You’ll also facilitate our end of campaign handovers to various platforms and teams.

Key Requirements

- Sound organisational skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload, work to short deadlines and prioritise effectively whilst ensuring quality of output and attention to detail.

Community Fundraising Officer, South
Hours: Part-time – 21 hours per week
Location: Hybrid Working with a minimum of one day a week working from Head Office (based near the city in London)
Reports to: Community Fundraising Manager
Role purpose: To fundraise for The Sick Children’s Trust through varied community fundraising activities, including supporting family fundraising and third-party events in the south such as but not limited to The Royal Parks Half Marathon. The postholder will be required to forge and develop new fundraising opportunities and relationships with local businesses, community organisations and schools. Ensuring a sensitive and effective supporter journey for new and existing supporters.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
Ø To cultivate and recruit new and existing supporters and volunteers to participate in a range of third-party events including The Royal Parks Half Marathon and ‘run your own’ fundraising events. To uplift supporter value, steward and retain through the delivery of brilliant supporter care whilst being respectful of potential sensitivities particularly when working with families who are fundraising in memory

The Senior Individual Giving Manager is responsible for the delivery of three key Individual Giving areas: Individual Giving Retention, Challenge Event & Community Fundraising and Supporter Care. They will oversee critical campaigns and a stewardship retention programme via a range of direct marketing channels, in order to drive income and achieve our strategic objectives. They will also work closely with the Head of Acquisition & Individual Giving to shape our Individual Giving strategy, and will be responsible for the ongoing monitoring, continuous improvement and success of campaigns that provide low risk, unrestricted income - crucial to our future growth as an organisation.

Your role
You will have a significant impact on our fundraising activity and be at the forefront of shaping our interactions with the general public, by helping to create and then leading on the implementation of our Individual Giving Strategy, leading on the implementation of our Challenge Event & Community Fundraising programme, and overseeing our Supporter Care function. You will provide line management to the Individual Giving Manager, Challenge Event & Community Fundraising Manager and Supporter Care & Individual Giving Assistant, ensuring excellent levels of stewardship are delivered to our donors and supporters at every interaction.
You will be experienced in direct marketing – creating compelling propositions and content, able to plan and carry out sophisticated stewardship journeys, whilst ensuring there are robust systems and processes in place to execute superb supporter care.
You will work closely with the Acquisition team to ensure activities are optimised and integrated at all times. You will have a strong campaign management approach (from planning to evaluation) and be responsible for the ongoing monitoring, continuous improvement and success of each campaign your team delivers – using data and insights to shape future planning and the growth of the Individual Giving programme.
Your responsibilities:
- To provide first-rate line management to your line reports in the Individual Giving team. You will model excellence in management that will result in your team thriving in their roles and developed to achieve their best, with high standards of performance and behaviour, whilst maintaining high levels of wellbeing. As a senior member of the Supporter Engagement team, you will model these high standards of performance and behaviour to support the Head of Acquisition & Individual Giving and Supporter Engagement Director.
- To oversee the delivery of War Child’s Individual Giving supporter retention programme, including cash and emergency appeals, warm telemarketing (upgrade, reactivation and C2C), welcome journeys and a series of engagement communications across the year, providing feedback on copy and creative, as well as providing sign-off on data selections and briefs for Individual Giving. Our multi-channel approach requires a good knowledge of telemarketing, email, SMS and direct mail, as well as KPI monitoring, analysis and learning for the continuous improvement and success of the programme. You may also be required to carry out some Regular Giving acquisition activity as needed.
- To lead, alongside the interim Senior Acquisition Manager, on cross-organisational Data project, with the objective of maximising on currently underutilised data opportunities from across the organisation, ensuring that all roads ultimately lead to regular giving.
- To work closely with the Head of Acquisition & Individual Giving, and the Acquisition team, to ensure all campaigns and supporter journeys are well planned, joined up, and motivate potential and existing supporters with a personalised and rewarding experience. This includes the planning and overseeing the delivery of strategic supporter journeys, and creating new processes to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency across the programme.
- To oversee our Supporter Care function, including leading on all call handling and complaints process training, overseeing our refunds process and people in vulnerable circumstances policy, and ensuring all SLAs are met. You will also be required to manage some elements of our Legacy fundraising programme (including admin, stewardship and acquisition activity) as needed.
- To oversee our Challenge & Community Fundraising function, including the planning and delivery of core events, the acquisition of new fundraisers and the stewardship of existing fundraisers. You will provide feedback on copy and creatives and ensure all SLAs are met. You will also work closely with your line report, the Challenge & Community Fundraising Manager, to maximise the income potential of supporters through exploring new opportunities and ensuring excellent levels of supporter care and thorough results reporting.
- Deliver on annual income targets for each function you oversee, monitoring income and expenditure for each campaign and providing regular progress reports and updates on performance to the Head of Acquisition & Individual Giving and the Leadership Group as required. This includes reporting on Supporter Care SLAs and processes.
- Draw on fundraising knowledge and expertise to support the Head of Acquisition & Individual Giving on the development and implementation of the department strategy, including making key recommendations on targets, opportunities for growth, scale back, and spend needed, while considering the external environment / trends across the sector, audience insight and campaign learnings – helping to influence strategic decisions on future investment. budgeting and planning.
- Support the Head of Acquisition & Individual Giving on our budgeting and planning, by leading on the monthly Management Accounts process for your areas and supporting the Head of Acquisition & Individual Giving on reforecasts.
- To utilise your direct marketing expertise to maximise the potential income across every campaign you are responsible for, and to be a practitioner, modelling high standards of hands-on direct marketing and individual giving knowledge to your team.
- To ensure excellent stakeholder and agency management so that War Child is in a strong position to motivate sector specialists to engage with our brand and form long-term relationships.
- To take responsibility for updating the out of hours emergency rota for your team.
- To maintain an up to date knowledge of current activities at War Child and be an advocate of the War Child brand.
- Work closely with the Fundraising Compliance Manager and other key team members to ensure that all marketing activity is in line with compliance regulations set by the IOF, DMA, ICO, Fundraising Regulator and GDPR legislation.

You are:
- An experienced senior fundraiser, with demonstrable knowledge of mass market channels and direct marketing principles, ideally gained within an international development or humanitarian NGO setting so you can present War Child’s work with authority.
- An experienced people manager, with a strong understanding of the principles of motivational people management and individual development, and be able to apply this confidently.
- Experienced in turning individual giving strategies covering multiple channels, products and audiences into detailed plans and activities.
- Analytically and numerically strong, and highly confident in using Excel. Able to take an evidence-led approach to enhancing performance, by analysing data patterns and trends (including the attrition of donors), and using a range of KPIs to monitor and predict performance.
- Experienced at working in a target-led environment with a proven track record of successful fundraising results, delivering against targets and income growth.
- Someone with a good working knowledge of best-practice Supporter Care and Challenge & Community principles and stewardship, and a passion for delivering excellent service to donors and supporters.
- Highly experienced at using a relational database to support and report on fundraising activity, using insight and analysis to identify opportunities and make strategic decisions.
- Experienced in critically evaluating activities to achieve strategic priorities and maximise their effectiveness.
- An excellent copywriter who is passionate and experienced at crafting compelling direct marketing copy for Individual Giving donors.
- Someone with a good understanding of the principles of fundraising regulation and GDPR, and its implications for fundraising policy and practice.
- An excellent communicator and relationship manager with strong networking skills at senior levels, internally and externally.
