We are looking for a Financial Accountant, whose primary responsibility will be to ensure the financial accounting elements of our organisation are robust. This means ensuring we have an efficient annual audit process and completion of the statutory accounts, built upon the role holder maintaining an accurate balance sheet throughout the year.
Overall responsible for day-to-day accounting operations including purchase and sales ledger, expenses, credit card and bank payments, as well as month end financial accounting processes.
This role will take a key responsibility for regulatory compliance and accuracy of VAT, Corporation Tax and Regulatory returns and ensure financial policies, processes and procedures are kept up to date.
Responsible for treasury management including managing banking relationships and producing regular cashflow reports.
This role can be based in our London office, or hybrid working with regular attendance to our London office.
Key Skills and Attributes:
A strong financial accounting background, with up-to-date knowledge and use of accounting standards, Charity SORP and accounts preparation.
We work in a complex charitable environment; the successful applicant must have good experience with VAT and Corporation Tax.
Experience of managing accounting operations and of recommending, developing and implementing strong financial control frameworks.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant, with strong technical skills.
Strong ability to communicate complex financial matters at all levels, as well as having the ability to build relationships within the team, within the wider organisation, and with external advisors.
The team:

The Finance Manager is a high impact role, based in the Academy’s Finance Team, and will be responsible in advising across the organization. The Finance Manager is responsible for ensuring reliable financial reports, regulatory compliance, and analysis of financial reports. The role provides support to the Head of Finance by ensuring that key financial controls are in place and managed effectively, ensuring financial procedures are kept up to date and communicated to staff, and income is maximized by robust credit control and cash management.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Oversee the processing of income and expenditure incurred by AMS group and ensure these accurately accounted for in the financial accounts and timely closure for month-end and year-end
- Lead on the process of accurate and reliable financial accounts
- Facilitate timely management and statutory reporting, and ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date balance sheet for AMS group, ensure monthly reconciliations are performed
- Ensure reconciliation of CRM (Salesforce) and booking system (Rendezvous) to finance system (Iplicit)
- Lead the cash management of AMS group, to ensure sufficient cash flow to meet operational requirements
- Process monthly payroll journals and resolve associated queries, ensuring that the Academy’s payroll expenditure reporting is timely and accurate and related balance sheet accounts are reconciled, including pension submission
- Liaise with fellowship and fundraising team and lead the preparation, reconciliation and submission of accurate and timely gift aid claims, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
- Ensure VAT is properly accounted for in line with regulations, and lead on the preparation, reconciliation, and submission of quarterly VAT returns for the AMS group to HMRC
- Line management of the Financial Accountant and 3 Finance Officers
Who are we looking for?
- A formally qualified Accountant
- Relevant experience in financial management, forecasting, technical accounting and charity VAT.

The Opportunity
The Partnerships Manager will support the team in delivering ambitious membership growth targets for the College. Working closely with the Associate Director: Partnerships, the Partnerships Manager will take responsibility for:
- Developing and delivering presentations to drive Chartered College membership, ensuring that trainee teachers, teachers and school leaders are aware of and join the College, including at conferences and sector events.
- Developing new partnerships to support scalable income generation for group memberships, Chartered programmes, accreditation and projects, and introducing bespoke opportunities for customers and stakeholders.
- Supporting existing partnerships and, through those relationships, identifying wider sector challenges for the College to address. This will include working closely with the Associate Director for Professional Learning, Marketing and Communications Manager and Head of Content.
Membership sales
Most of your time you will be working towards achievement of objectives (including sales and account management and supporting overall membership numbers) and income targets for the full range of products and services including group membership, Chartered programmes, accreditations and projects offered by the College. You will build and maintain a sales pipeline to report to the Associate Director: Partnerships.
Membership engagement
You will spend some of your time managing and implementing workshops, webinars and activities for groups of trainee teachers, teachers and leaders to drive membership engagement, upgrade, renewal and recruitment. This will require regular travel throughout the UK. You will also liaise with training providers, universities and appropriate bodies to support student recruitment and upgrade to ECT membership.
Account Management
You will spend some of your time:
- Maintaining excellent account management and first-rate customer service with both existing and new partners and customers.
- Working closely with Members, Fellows and supporters of the College to build and maintain relationships and expand potential partnership opportunities.
- Maintaining records in the College’s CRM system (Salesforce), and ensuring colleagues are informed of customers’ status and opportunities.
- With the Associate Director: Partnerships and Membership Manager, managing processes and implementing activities.
Other
Alongside your main areas of work, you will:
- Continue to engage in your own professional development.
- Arranging and participating in meetings, and other activities as required.

Key responsibilities of the Bookkeeper
Bookkeeping & Financial Transactions:
- Record day-to-day financial transactions and complete the posting process.
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records up to the trial balance stage.
- Assist with month-end tasks and processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
Accounts Payable:
- Process supplier invoices (via Dext and QuickBooks) and reconcile supplier statements.

The role
The Executive Manager is a new senior leadership role, leading on the organisations’ fundraising, partnership and service development and supporting the board in all aspects of organisational governance.
