Highway House is a charity that has been providing all year round shelter and support services to the homeless for the past 15 years. Our work with the homeless has evolved an adapted from 2009 to date to offer the support most needed at any given time. Highway House received the Faith Recognition Award for providing specialist services by Her Majesty’s Lieutenant at the Royal College of Medicine in November 2017. We have received the best shelter of the year award 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 by the London Prestige Awards.
Summary of role
This post is responsible for ensuring that guests who attend Highway House are in the first instance made welcome. The primary role will be to engage those guests that attend the day centre and guests that are resident in the shelter’s accommodation in developing a pathway of support for them and help them move to the maximum independence they are capable of. Providing baseline and continuing monitoring of their progress will be required, as will working closely with the project manager.
Job Description
· Be responsible for receiving guests 2 days a week at the day centre
· Initial recording of guests details in database system
· Work with guests to identify their needs
· Research and engage appropriate support for guests
· Develop links with health and welfare agencies to benefit guests
· Support the physical and mental wellbeing of guests
· Visit guests placed in the shelter’s accommodation 1 day a week (4 hours) to do support work with guests.
· Supervise and inspect state of property and run room checks on weekly visit to the shelter’s accommodation.
- Ensure effective collection of monitoring information, consultation and feedback
- Report regularly to the project manager as and when required board of trustees upon the progress of the project against stated outcomes
- Agree with Manager any actions regarding outcomes
- Ensure all safeguarding issues are dealt with effectively as detailed within our policy
· Work with, support, and build the understanding of volunteers
· Training volunteers in support work
· Agree and maintain work plans with Project Manager
· Work with project Manager to engage partners and develop new opportunities
· Contribute to review of activities so they are based upon need
· Ensure the information is processed in database system to provide monitoring and evaluation reports
· Any other duties deemed necessary

The position is a dual role. You’ll join as one of two dedicated Youth Workers and will lead on a portion of Free to Be Kids’ year-round follow-on support for vulnerable young people who we have already engaged via our Thrive Outside residentials. Crucially, a core aspect of the role will be leading an average of 8-10 of our residential projects across each year - working on the ground with the children, leading the volunteers, and helping make the projects special, safe, and transformative for vulnerable young people, many of whom have complex needs. You’ll be joining a small staff team of 8, supplemented by a vibrant and committed group of volunteers.
Attendance at approximately 8-10 five-six night residential projects per year outside London is a core component of this role.
On offer to the right candidate:
Salary: Circa £29,000-£34,000, dependent on experience.
Hours: Fulltime: 37.5 hours per week. Essential attendance on at c.8-10 residential projects a year.
Leave: 25 days per year, plus bank holidays and up to 13 additional pre-set discretionary reward days in September and during the Christmas period.
Other benefits: 4% employer pension contribution paid on full base salary, rising by 1% per year of service, up to a maximum of 6%, hybrid working, office with great transport links, flexible working (outside core hours), employee reward scheme, a tight-knit effective team with great morale.

About Women in Prison
Women in Prison is a national, women-led, feminist organisation. We deliver front line support to women harmed by the criminal justice system, through our work in prisons, in the community and ‘through the prison gate’ as they resettle back into their communities. We also campaign for systems change that addresses the root causes of offending, reduces the harmful impact of prison, and creates workable, community-based alternatives to imprisonment.
This role will be based in HMP Bronzefield and our South London Womens Hubs, leading the development and delivery of specialist domestic abuse/family & significant other support with women impacted by the criminal justice system.
Key Responsibility Areas
- Lead on developing an effective domestic abuse/family & significant others intervention for women impacted by the criminal justice system
- Develop effective relationships with key stakeholders to ensure a collaborative approach to addressing women’s needs
- Provide expert advice and support to colleagues, including Women in Prison’s influencing team
- Provide effective leadership to direct report/s, ensuring teams are managed and supported.
Duties and key responsibilities
Lead on developing an effective domestic abuse/family & significant others intervention for women impacted by the criminal justice system:
- Lead the Family and Significant Other strand of support to create an intervention that assesses clients’ domestic abuse needs, providing expert advice and support, and developing a support plan to address identified needs.
- Provide trauma-responsive approach, undertaking risk and needs assessments that reflect each individual's situation and support needs.
- Ensure that interventions are responsive to and meet the needs of women from diverse and minoritised communities.
- Accurately document all client interaction on relevant databases, always working in line with Women in Prison’s case management policy, and data protection legislation.
- Support in the collation and production of reports, including ensuring that appropriate recording, monitoring and evaluation of work is completed to set deadlines.
- Completing DASH risk assessments and attending MARAC meetings where appropriate.
To develop effective relationships with key stakeholders to ensure a collaborative approach to addressing women’s needs:
- Work in partnership with key organisations, such as domestic abuse services, children’s services, housing departments, prison based teams, community organisations, to advocate for women’s needs around family and significant others.
- Take a collaborative multi-agency approach to supporting women, including representing and supporting women at multi-agency meetings.
- Contribute to strategic and operational meetings, such as performance review meetings with funders and partners.
To provide expert advice and support to colleagues, including Women in Prison’s influencing team
- Support the wider team to increase knowledge on DA legislation and pathways through providing support and advice, and training to internal colleagues.
- Support Women in Prison’s influencing work through actively contributing expertise into campaigns and ensuring that Women in Prison provides a platform for women’s voices.
- Contribute to development of new approaches and interventions that address underlying contributing factors to women’s offending and criminalisation.
Provide effective leadership to direct report/s, ensuring teams are managed and supported:
- Line manage direct report/s and ensure that all staff receive regular support, supervision and performance review, case management, training and development in line with WIP policies and procedures.
- Support the Link Worker with development of the programme.
- Ensure the Link Worker is linked in with wider South London Women’s Hub teams.

We are SIFA Fireside, the support service for any adult in Birmingham that faces homelessness. For 40 years we have supported Birmingham’s most vulnerable people through Homelessness Intervention, Prevention and Recovery services.
The Adult Lead Worker service is based at our main hub in Digbeth but provides city-wide support to adults experiencing multiple disadvantages. This service provides flexible, strengths-based advice and support to people aged 18 years plus who experience two or more of substance use, poor mental health, history of repeat homelessness and offending history. Clients may also be serially excluded from services or be at risk of exclusion from mainstream services.
This is a targeted service that aims to build resilience, improve health and wellbeing and move people towards independent living at an early stage, in order to prevent or delay the need for crisis interventions.

About the role:

As a Live Chat Support Worker you will be: -
- Able to respond to victims of and those affected by crime by providing emotional support, information and referral on to Victim Support services and other agencies
- Providing immediate emotional support, practical advice and trauma first aid referrals to victims of and those affected by major incidents and terrorism.
- Responsible for recording live chat conversations with victims of crime accurately and professionally, including recording all safeguarding actions taken.
- Responsible for taking disclosures and responding appropriately by either escalating the safeguarding concern to the 'Designated Safeguarding Officer' or to respond immediately to life threatening situations.
You will need:
- Experience of working in challenging and changing environments with the emphasis on excellence in service delivery.

As a Hospital Carer Support Worker, you will be part of our Waltham Forest community team, helping to improve the lives of carers through your work. This role is part of a North East London (NEL)-wide project to better identify and support carers within and beyond acute settings funded as part of the Accelerating Reform Fund (ARF). This role will include, improving the recognition and identification of carers within the Hospital setting (Whipps Cross Hospital). Providing information advice and guidance to carers and effectively linking carers to ongoing support to increase ‘successful’ Hospital Discharges for their ‘cared for’.
To be successful in this role you will have excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of individuals, organisations, partners, and funders particularly those within a hospital setting. You will need to be a resilient, highly professional and empathetic person who is able to work flexibly. You will be at the forefront of this new project, able to raise issues effectively and work alongside project evaluators to identify ‘what works’ to contribute to the wider NCL project development. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is excited about creating real change in carer’s support.
This role is based at Whipps Cross Hospital with occasional travel to our Waltham Forest office for team meetings. So being commutable to this hospital and our office is desirable. There will be opportunities to work from home when appropriate.

About the Role
This role offers the opportunity to join our service team at Luton. Based at our Wellbeing Centre in Dumfries Street we offer activities and groups throughout the day enabling service users to manage their mental health and move through their recovery journeys. In addition to facilitating a range of groups the role will involve assessing individual’s suitability for the service and signposting to local services and community support where necessary, as well as performing 1-1 meetings with clients periodically in order to assess and create action plans.
The role includes the opportunity to support events in the community to raise awareness of our services and build links with local organisations, as well as supporting volunteer and student placements.
Service Delivery
- Deliver a service and ensure outcomes which support individuals with mental health and wellbeing needs in Luton, in line with Mind BLMK’s agreed recovery model as well as contract requirements and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
- Carry out assessments on individuals’ suitability for Mind BLMK’s services in line with the Access to Service procedure and processes and the needs, priorities and support required by the individual.
- Facilitate onsite activity, drop-in and topic based group sessions. This may include planning of topics that support wellbeing, facilitating informal drop in and discussions, planning and organising activity based sessions including guest speakers and signposting and information sharing about other local services and resources.
- Encourage and support client engagement with Mind BLMK through Guarantor Membership and other opportunities available through Influence and Participation.
- Contribute to maintaining an effective volunteer workforce for the service in line with Mind BLMK’s HR policies, procedures and guidance (workload planning and support).
- Carry out Cash Handling, Health and Safety and Data Collection responsibilities as directed by the Team Leader in line with Mind BLMK’s policies, procedures, requirements and guidance.
