As Head of Development, you will be a key member of a small team. Reporting to the incoming Chief Executive, you will develop and implement the preexisting fundraising strategy and guide the organisation’s communications and PR strategy. As Head of Development, you will:
- Develop and implement the existing fundraising strategy and develop marketing and communications efforts, ensuring cohesive and impactful messaging to effectively engage donors and stakeholders
- Deliver a high standard of supporter care and relationship management tailored to the level of giving, including nurturing their successful new Legacy Club

The Role:
We have a newly created opportunity for a Head of Income Generation to join ELF as a senior leader within our charity. The Person:
The successful candidate will have substantial experience of working in a fundraising position and driving an income-generation strategy. You will have demonstrable success in securing gifts from a range of donors and in building excellent relationships, with colleagues, donors and beneficiaries. You’ll come with substantial experience in applying for grants from a range of sources and in securing legacy pledges.
The ideal candidate will have a proven knowledge of fundraising principles and of the Fundraising Regulator and Charity Commission guidelines. You’ll be experienced in using fundraising databases and data segmentation to identify and develop prospect lists. Exceptional attention to detail and a good working knowledge of GDPR and data protection principles are required.
As our Head of Income Generation, you will be highly motivated with the ability to find pragmatic solutions, seek improvements and adapt to changing situations. You’ll share ELF’s passion in supporting cancer patients and their families.
Experience working in a medical charity would be desirable, but we will consider candidates from a variety of charitable backgrounds. Team leadership experience would be beneficial. A fundraising qualification would be useful, although not essential.
This role can is offered on either a full-time or part-time basis. We can be flexible with how the hours sit across the week to fit in with your schedule, however we do ask that the role holder works during core hours and has some flexibility to occasionally attend events and fundraisers outside of working hours. This is a hybrid position with a minimum of two days per week based in the Marsh Barton office.

Who you are
We need energised, self-starters who are passionate about helping others, to join our fantastic team.
We are looking for people who have a background in providing emotional support and practical research and advocacy for vulnerable people after a serious psychological trauma such as the death of a loved one in violent circumstances.
Specifically we are seeking candidates with:

experience of frontline care for people in crisis with acute vulnerabilities and risks (desirable but not essential)
-
comprehensive understanding of the processes involved in the criminal justice system (desirable but not essential)
-
research and advocacy skills – you get crucial things done through liaison with external agencies
-
significant resilience, and willingness to be professionally developed and clinically supervised
-
a full UK driving licence, with access to your own transport and are willing to use it for work purposes (we reimburse travelling expenses).
Candidates must be able to speak Welsh. You will be expected to support families who are first language Welsh.
We are interested in receiving applications, not to the exclusion of others, from candidates with experience supporting people who have suffered sudden bereavement or working with those with heightened vulnerabilities.
Experience gained in the following kinds of roles tends to transfer well to the role of caseworker at Brake: police force, roles within the criminal justice system, family liaison officer, counsellor, experience in health and social care or previous caseworker experience in any area.
The greatest reward comes from knowing you have made a real positive difference to someone’s recovery from psychological trauma, and the emotional or practical challenges presented by their sudden bereavement or serious injury.

The successful candidate will be required to go through an enhanced DBS vetting process due to the sensitive nature of the service delivered. Additional police vetting may also be required (TBC)
