Work across our frontline services shows us what matters to women, and where things can and should be better in the care they receive from others. Based on these insights, we commission academic and peer-led research and direct the attention of local and national policy-makers, commissioners and service providers to what needs to change, and how. Everyone at Birth Companions plays a role in this. Communication and collaboration between our frontline practitioners, policy and engagement staff and the women in our Lived Experience Team means we are able to identify and monitor issues and themes and draw on learning in order to feed them into conversations with senior stakeholders across maternity, criminal justice, social services and immigration. In this way we ensure our policy and influencing work is rooted in the day-to-day experiences of women and what will make most difference to them and their babies. 

The Coordinator: Community Perinatal Services will coordinate and deliver a high quality, trauma-informed service offering specialist emotional and practical support to pregnant women and new mothers for up to 12 months post-birth, who are experiencing multiple disadvantage and living in the community, predominantly in the northeast London area.

The role includes the co-ordination and support of volunteers, who deliver the majority of our birth support service.

About the Role:

As the Delivery and Volunteer Support Coordinator, you will play a vital role in supporting the work of the Educational Partnerships team in London and the SE.  This means you'll be supporting our work with schools that serve young people from areas with the greatest barriers to social mobility. Your mission will be to ensure YE’s programmes in London and the SE are delivered effectively and ensure our volunteers feel well supported throughout their volunteer journey with YE.

You’ll be a key member of YE’s Educational Partnerships Regional Team, collaborating closely with Educational Partnerships Managers, the Educational Partnerships Regional Manager, the Volunteering Team and National Fundraising to support the success of our enterprise and financial education programmes. These programmes are designed to help young people make positive contributions to their communities and society, while equipping them with the tools to shape their own future.

This is a dynamic and rewarding role where no two days are the same. There is a degree of manual handling and you may be required to work some evenings and weekends. You will engage directly with internal and external stakeholders and take responsibility for several reporting and administration processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and Nurture Relationships: Cultivate and expand internal and external relationships that facilitate the delivery of YE’s programmes and services effectively. 
• Volunteer Management: Identify, recruit and locally train event-based volunteers. This will include harnessing excellent relationships with volunteers, ensuring that our volunteers are supported on their journey with YE.
• Event support: Manage all the logistics for various events that occur as part of YE’s programmes over the course of an academic year.  Including, launches, training, trade fairs and showcases.
• Collaboration and Teamwork: Work alongside your regional team to achieve shared KPIs, contributing to the success of the region and the wider organisation.
• Safeguarding: Undertake training and ensure YE’s safeguarding policy is adhered to at all times.
• Tech-Savvy: Competence in using IT tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

About the role

This post will work as part of a community partnership programme, a small team providing accessible and bespoke perinatal care including, antenatal education, postnatal sessions, peer support, counselling and practical support to women from low-income migrant marginalised backgrounds. The role will provide non-judgmental, compassionate and trauma-informed care to women accessing the service and provide an initial assessment of needs and regular reviews. This role will coordinate inclusive and sensitive evaluation and data collection methods to evidence service impact and work collaboratively with stakeholders and researchers to enable women to participate in opportunities to share their maternity experience.

To be successful in this role you will have:

· Experience of supporting or working with marginalised or vulnerable groups and understanding the barriers they face to accessing support and an awareness of ways in overcoming them 

· Knowledge and experience working or volunteering with women and birthing people during pregnancy and early years 

· Experience working within a relevant sector e.g., maternity, children’s services, homelessness, women’s services, mental health, supporting asylum and refugee families 

· Strong commitment to improve equity and equality in maternity care

· Ability to handle challenging situations and behavior with a calm, flexible and confident approach to reach a positive resolution 

· Experience in evidencing impact, using inclusive approaches of evaluation and data collection

· Able to work reflectively, developing an awareness of your own and others’ relational styles and responses, and any judgements, biases or assumptions that may impact upon your work.

In 2024, Tower Hamlets received Trailblazer funding to develop and implement new models of community-based mental health care that integrate clinical and voluntary sector provision, in line with  The Community Mental Health Framework.

The Tower Hamlets Mental Health Alliance (THMHA) was formed two years ago to create a bold new community-based mental health support service for Tower Hamlets residents. THMHA consists of 18 Voluntary, Community, Faith, and Social Enterprise Sector (VCFSE) service providers that have come together in partnership. The primary criterion for membership is that the organisation either specialises in mental health support or has a significant and growing focus on mental health in its work. Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham, and Redbridge is a member of this alliance.

Alongside THMHA members, Look Ahead, and East London Foundation Trust, we are implementing a new community-based, 24/7 mental health care system that prioritises the tailored needs of individuals facing mental health challenges. The goal is to provide support in a non-hospital setting, preventing the need for more intensive interventions in the future.

Coproduction and Community Engagement (CCE) Coordinator will play a vital role in ensuring the services at the Barnsley Street Project are designed and delivered in true partnership with the local community. This role is particularly focused on minoritised and underrepresented groups, ensuring their voices are central to service development. The ideal candidate will be passionate about inclusive service design, community engagement, and mental health equity. You will work closely with clients, carers, and community partners to create a responsive and culturally competent service that meets the needs of Tower Hamlets' diverse population.

About the role:

This is a central and valued role in our Senior Leadership Team. The position is critical to our work in training healthcare professionals to understand how the law applies to practice and our work to empower communities with the tools and language to advocate for their rights. You will be delivering our ambitious plans to take our training service to the next level at this critical time, with support of our two brilliant training co-ordinators and a wider network of associate trainers. We are looking for an Inclusion Specialist (term time + 3 weeks only) to join a team providing specialist support and interventions for children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) impacted by the Grenfell tragedy.

The Role

The Inclusion Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting children and young people affected by the Grenfell tragedy. Working within the Education Hub and local schools, you will help enhance learning experiences, provide tailored interventions, and ensure inclusive practices for children with SEN.

You will:

• Deliver one-to-one and group-based interventions, including after-school programs and small group teaching sessions tailored to specific learning needs.
• Conduct diagnostic assessments to support the development of tailored learning plans.
• Work closely with families, schools, and community partners to provide holistic support for children with SEN.
• Act as a liaison between families and schools to ensure a cohesive approach to supporting children.
• Provide trauma-informed guidance to families, teachers, and school staff, focusing on emotional regulation and academic success.

About You

Shine’s Health Team 

Shine’s Health Team provides condition-specific health advice and support to people of all ages with spina bifida, hydrocephalus, NPH or IIH, promoting good self-management and enabling our members to live in optimum health.  The Team also aims to reduce the numbers of pregnancies affected by spina bifida and anencephaly through education around supplementation and fortification with folic acid, and other measures. 

Purpose of Job 

The Shine Nurse Specialist will deliver services and create resources to improve the health of Shine’s members, by informing members, their carers and professionals 

Principal Duties 

• To provide ad hoc advice to Shine’s members, their carers  and professionals on complex health issues, and signpost to NHS services 

• To attend and represent Shine at the Chelsea & Westminster Spina Bifida Clinic (for permanent role)

• To collect information, statistics and research from a variety of sources to inform Shine’s health projects 

• To create resources to inform and support members’ health 

• To develop training/information resources for professionals 

• To plan and deliver projects, events, presentations and information sessions for members and professionals 

• To provide an information resource for Shine staff 

• To form and engage with networks of health professionals 

• To represent Shine at events and meetings 

• To work closely with the Health Research & Information Coordinator to produce and disseminate health information to Shine members and the general public 

Skills and Experience 

Essential 

• Professional/Registered Health Qualification, for example:

  • Adult Nursing 

  • Paediatric Nursing 

  • Registered General Nurse 

• Experience of searching scientific and medical literature, collating information and writing reports 

• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal 

• Ability to work effectively alone and as part of a team 

• Ability to plan and deliver projects 

• Good presentation skills 

Desirable 

• Knowledge of the physical aspects of spina bifida and hydrocephalus

The Role

The Senior Inclusion Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) who have been affected by the Grenfell tragedy. You will work directly with families, schools, alternative provisions, and local services to identify and address individual needs, ensuring that inclusive education practices are implemented effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a small team, including an Inclusion Specialist and Family Practitioner.
• Oversee complex SEN cases, guiding families through assessments, referrals, and support plans.
• Provide trauma-informed guidance, advising on how trauma impacts learning and behaviour.
• Work with schools and local authorities to design inclusive education strategies and improve SEN provision.
• Conduct baseline assessments and develop individual support plans for children and young people.
