Bromley Recovery and Wellbeing College, part of SEL Mind’s Recovery Works service, runs a curriculum of free peer and professional-led courses across the borough. Our workshops and courses combine enjoyment, fun and knowledge to enable students to achieve a greater insight into their own mental wellbeing and gain skills to help them achieve personal goals and ambitions.

We are looking for a Recovery College Coordinator, with drive and a passion for promoting learning, to help with the running of an excellent quality college.  You will work closely with the Recovery College Manager and a team of dedicated tutors and volunteers to bring a wide range of accessible courses that includes the widest range of students.

You will have experience of people management and of successfully delivering learning to others. You will need to be organised and have the confidence to communicate effectively with a range of people.

A flexible can-do attitude and a calm, problem-solving approach are also essential for this role. If you have what it takes, we would love to hear from you.

South East London Mind is working in partnership with South London and Maudsley NHS Trust to deliver the Southwark Primary Care Mental Health Team.

Working alongside and complementing the mental health care provided by the Multi-Disciplinary Teams, our Lived Experience Support Workers offer a strength-based holistic approach to recovery, using empathy and understanding to help service users access the right interventions and support, based on their individual need.

They also support clients to develop and maintain independence in their local community, promoting resilience, building life skills, and a strengthened ability to cope with challenges and play a more active role in the management and sustainability of their wellbeing.

We are seeking a new Lived Experience Support Worker to join our team. You will have lived experience of mental health challenges, as well as experience supporting vulnerable people within a clinical environment and/or managing a vulnerable client cohort caseload.

The role will involve:

• Working alongside a Multi-Disciplinary Team, managing and providing recovery-orientated support to a diverse caseload of clients with mental health diagnoses
• Offering clients tailored, holistic support with empathy and understanding to empower them to develop resilience, a strengthened ability to cope with ongoing challenges, and a more active role in the management of their wellbeing
• Engaging clients in peer support sessions and offering appropriate and holistic advice, information, and signposting and helping them to navigate the support that may be available to them in their local communities.

The Baobab Centre is a non-residential therapeutic community that supports young asylum seekers and refugees who have experienced human rights abuses and have sought asylum in the UK as unaccompanied minors. Our two focus areas are rehabilitation and justice.

The role of the Baobab Casework Advocate is to provide care and support for our community of unaccompanied asylum seeking and refugee children and young people. An ‘advocate’ is someone who supports another to express their views and wishes, to stand up for their rights, to enable one to make choices and access opportunities, while understanding the individual’s vulnerability and need.  As Casework Advocate you will work within our multidisciplinary team to provide the intensive support required, identify indicators of risk and safeguard young people from significant harm.

Mental Health

As Casework Advocate you will understand the impact of specific human rights abuses on the development of children and young people in exile and their individual experiences of loss, trauma and grief on their mental health and well-being.  All the young people Baobab supports suffer significant mental health and developmental difficulties and many function in an unstable and more immature way than their chronological age. Due to their experiences, it takes time to gain trust from the young people in our community.

Baobab’s Model

It is our experience that it takes a significant amount of time to understand Baobab’s model of working, which aims for rehabilitation and justice through attending to both the internal and external world of each young person (see more detail in accompanying ‘Baobab Model’ document). It is critical that as a Casework Advocate you strive to have an insight to the experiences of both the internal and external factors impacting on the lives of unaccompanied young people attending our centre. It is also critical you understand the the ways in which UK society and policy impacts on young asylum seekers (including invisibility, marginalisation, discrimination and the fact of waiting in uncertainty for a long time)

Multi-disciplinary Working A key aspect of the role is communicating with members of the team at Baobab and building relationships with other workers in the networks around each young person including social workers, teachers, foster carers, lawyers, clinicians in hospitals and community settings. Baobab aims to be a reflective, thinking organisation and we place a high value on shared thinking time, sharing responsibilities and working together with others who have a key role in relation to each young person both within and outside of Baobab.

Accessing rights and entitlements

The Casework Advocate supports community members to better understand the context in which they are living and how to access appropriate care, rights and entitlements. This involves working closely with each young person’s Key Work Clinician, and together strengthening relationships with external networks and developing holistic support plans to meet identified needs. As a Casework Advocate you must be prepared to challenge certain decisions and practices by external agencies where required for the welfare of the young person. The role involves supporting young people to initiate legal challenges when necessary and advocating on young person’s behalf where they are unable to.

Working towards independence

A key component of the role is to empower individuals to communicate their views, needs and experiences and participate in decision making processes. You will encourage young people to develop their level of knowledge and skills to enable their independence and progression towards their aspirations. Many of the young people Baobab supports find the task of taking responsibility for their own lives and making choices hugely challenging.

St Germain’s Wellbeing (SGW) was established in 2020 as a community-based mental health service aiming to equip people to self-manage their mental health issues. Now an independent charity, SGW has become one of the main mental health referral points for GP-based social prescribers throughout Birmingham and North Solihull. Each year we support around a thousand service users using evidence-based interventions.

As the Service Manager and Lead Practitioner, you will  manage a dedicated service delivery team of staff and volunteers, training new Emotional Wellbeing Practitioners and collaborating with the CEO on recruitment. Your role will also involve direct service delivery, conducting one-to-one sessions, facilitating group workshops, and managing weekly drop-in support.

In addition to service delivery, you will oversee the monitoring and evaluation of interventions, ensuring outcomes are accurately recorded and reported to funders. You will also serve as the internal safeguarding lead, maintaining and developing policies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all service users.

You will work collaboratively with the CEO, Board of Trustees and St Germain’s Church to integrate the mental health service within the church’s holistic community provision, fostering strong partnerships with local referral agents and promoting the service to generate engagement.

The role is offered on a permanent basis, subject to ongoing funding.

Background

Josephine's Star is a small, quickly growing charity, set up to support children who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives.  The Bereavement Support Team Lead role is central to the successful running of the charity, coordinating our support programme with grief support workers, volunteers, schools and parents.  The role requires an understanding and recognition of the sensitive, potentially challenging nature of the conversations with those affected by bereavement. Sands exists to save babies’ lives and ensure that anyone affected by pregnancy loss or baby death receives the support and care they need.

Our Bereavement Support Services team provides a wide range of services including a freephone Helpline, Online Community, Social Media support, memory making resources and print materials in order to provide consistent, high-quality information and support to bereaved families.

In this role you will provide operational and line management support so that the team can provide consistent, high-quality emotional support to bereaved families who seek support from Sands, as well as supervising the work of the Bereavement Support Officers whilst working on a rota basis.  You will also personally provide support to families via our various bereavement support channels.

The Sands Helpline is currently open from 10.00am to 3.00pm from Monday to Friday, and also between 6.00pm and 9.00pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. You will be expected to work regular shifts on a rota basis.

With significant experience of managing a team responding to people in crisis and  providing bereavement-centred support in a variety of settings and channels, you will be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of and empathy with, the issues surrounding the death of a baby. 

You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to use these appropriately to offer telephone and email support to bereaved families.

The ability to professionally represent the charity’s views and positions clearly is essential, as are strong research skills and the ability to keep accurate and clear records in a variety of formats. Additionally, you will have a thorough understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding issues.

You will be highly-organised and have effective time management skills with the ability to manage your own workload.  The ability to reflect on your own practice and attend regular accredited clinical supervision is also essential.

We are looking for a Research Officer to work on a 3-year evaluation of the government’s Start for Life Programme (currently in its second year). Start for Life aims to support families during the “critical first 1001 days”- from pregnancy until the child is two years of age. The programme is currently being delivered in 75 Local Authorities in England and will provide investment in services to support perinatal mental health, parent-infant relationships, and infant feeding. The evaluation aims to determine if and how the programme is improving a range of outcomes for infants and their parents and carers.

The post-holder will form part of the evaluation team and will be involved in a broad range of research activities. The tasks will include recruitment and retention of families for longitudinal research, conducting interviews with parents and carers, working with Local Authorities to imbed routine outcome measures, supporting questionnaire data collection, supporting Public and Patient Involvement in the overall evaluation, maintaining databases, processing large amounts of qualitative data, data analyses and reporting.
The successful candidate will be one of three Research Officers within the project, working with the Project Lead and two Peer Researchers. The working pace will be variable across the project and there will be some extremely busy times when data collection is well underway, but you will have a lot of opportunities. In particular you will have an opportunity to work on a large scale national evaluation that can make a difference to government policy through the support of an extremely caring and supportive team.

This post is funded through the Health & Wellbeing Grant through NHS Cheshire & Merseyside and Cheshire West & Chester Council. We are looking for someone to take forward our successful project ‘Bridging the Gap’ which was a new project within the organisation from January 2022. This is extension funding for an additional period until at least 31.12.25.

The work focuses on reducing health inequalities and access to primary care for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities in Cheshire West. The project has three key aspects:

1. Health promotion within BAME communities

2. One to one support for individuals

3. Healthcare support to health agencies

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Develop key materials to market and promote the project

2. Network, collaborate and maintain relationships with local VCFS organisations, public sector and healthcare providers to promote the project and its objectives.

3. Engage with BAME communities across Cheshire West to understand their health care needs and enable them to access health services

4. Pro-actively support individuals from BAME backgrounds to access healthcare and support them to navigate UK systems, including advocating on their behalf with healthcare providers and others.

5. Play an active role in relevant health related partnerships and attend meetings of the same.

6. Provide support and advice to both statutory and VCFS healthcare providers around issues that affect BAME communities.

7. Organise events around key health issues affecting BAME communities to raise awareness and reduce inequalities.

1. Seek and maintain links with individuals who can provide translation support.

1. Undertake continuing monitoring and evaluation in line with the funding agreement.

2. Collate data around individuals barriers and opinions of the health care system.

3. To complete relevant monitoring reports for the funder.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Service Manager to join our Health & Welfare team, based in London.

The role leads a highly engaged and expert team of officers with the tools and skills required to provide exceptional support to diverse user groups(musicians) with an up to date understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the music ecosystem. In addition, the role ensures compliance with relevant policies and standards, promotes a culture of continual improvement whilst managing team capacity, resources & budget to respond to changing demand.

About you

You will have experience of managing and improving services in a relevant health, social sector, and/or charity context. You will bring experience in budget and capacity management with expertise in forecasting and managing change in resources context, alongside understanding of safe working, safeguarding and data privacy.

Hours: 37.5 per week
Salary: £24,960 per annum, with progression to £27,560 per annum
Location: Worcestershire, on a hybrid working basis
