'Ataxia’ is an umbrella term for a group of neurological disorders that affect balance, coordination and speech. A serious but rare condition thought to affect 12,000 adults and around 500 children in the UK. We provide advocacy and support those affected. We are actively involved as the patient voice for the first USA approved drug for the condition.
Position: Charity Accountant
Responsible to: COO
Location: Hybrid working is offered to all staff. This role requires at least three days per weekk to be based in our Highgate, London office.
Hours: 35 hours per week (full-time), core hours of 10am–4pm
Salary: £38,000 - £40,000 per annum
Main purpose of job: Responsible for managing the financial operations of the charity, ensuring that all transactions are accurately recorded and that financial controls and procedures are in place to safeguard the charity’s assets.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Financial Management
1. Assist with the preparation of timely, accurate and comprehensive financial reports in Xero, provide detailed financial analysis to senior management, highlighting variances, trends and forecasts that could impact the charity’s financial health.
2. Contribute to the charity's accounting systems and processes ensuring that they are compliant with charity law, accounting standards and internal policies.
3. Implement and maintain strong internal financial controls to protect the charity’s assets, minimise risk and ensure proper governance.
4. Ensure that all grants and donations are managed and reported on in accordance with donor requirements, including preparation of grant financial reports and adherence to restricted fund reporting.
5. Preparation of monthly payroll and ensure timely running of payroll reports including the processing of payments to staff, pension funds and HMRC.
6. Processing of transactions in an accurate and timely fashion into Xero including:
- Purchase invoices/sales invoices
- Credit card transactions
- Staff, volunteer and trustee expense claims
- Conferences, grants and other event expenditure
7. Ensuring that all transaction documentation is properly filed and retained.
8. Processing BACS payments in an accurate and timely manner ensuring that these are properly authorised and retaining records of authorisation.
9. Maintenance of the fixed asset register and calculation of depreciation.
10. Management of the Euro-Ataxia accounts (multi-currency) including production of Annual Accounts.
11. Management of the Finance Officer.
12. Any other ad hoc work as required.
General
13. Monitor and proactively seek ways of improving systems and procedures to ensure efficiency, user friendliness and maximum impact
14. To participate with the rest of the team in the reception function e.g. answering the telephone and receiving visitors to the office.

Person specification
Essential
- Working towards or completion of Level 4 AAT or equivalent
- Experience of charity accounting, preferably managing restricted and unrestricted funds
- Extensive experience of working with Xero, including multicurrency.
- Educated to A level (or equivalent) standard.

Role Details
This role will oversee the development and delivery of the Individual Giving programme at Bliss, with a focus on digital fundraising and supporter care. The successful candidate will help ensure the effective running of existing fundraising products, including our regular giving, tribute funds and appeals programme. There will also be the opportunity to get creative in writing compelling copy and content for our Individual Giving programme, as well as work closely with supporters to ensure they receive the best experience of Bliss.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
· Experience of managing or supporting fundraising or marketing campaigns within a charity or commercial background

The Virtual Village Hall (VVH) is the main Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) live online interactive platform by which the charity interacts with and supports people in communities across the nation. Through its virtual setting, it supports the wider NHS and health care systems to improve and maintain the health of the nation and also tackle health inequalities, social deprivation and drive digital inclusion. VVH has touch points and is embedded with every aspect of the charity and provides a holistic nationwide offer.
The purpose of the Content Support Officer is to support delivery of the VVH Communications Plan. They will provide written content to support the promotion and every day running of the service and will research and secure talent and organisations to host new/themed sessions. What will I be doing?

*This is a home-based role with significant travel across the patch to maximise engagement. On average this would be 60 percent out in the field (travelling around your patch meeting supporters) and 40 percent home based. However, this is subject to change based on business need. There will be some evening working required to attend committee meetings however you will get this time back via our time off in lieu policy

About the role
This is the campaign you will be working on
One of the key issues we work on is accountability for sexual violence against children in institutions in Latin America, which aims to challenge impunity and improve access to justice for victims and survivors. Combating sexual violence against children globally has been a core part of CRIN’s work for more than a decade, and from this experience we see common challenges across the most systemic and entrenched forms of institutional abuse and exploitation: secrecy, cover-ups, abuse of power, stigma, shame, and impunity.
To successfully challenge this status quo, we have looked at the experiences of countries like Ireland and Australia, which were some of the first countries where survivors mobilised to demand and secure legal reforms to improve access to justice and establish national inquiries into child sexual abuse which prompted other policy reforms. In an effort to support and strengthen similar survivor-led activism elsewhere in the world, since 2019 CRIN has worked alongside grassroots organisations in Latin America led by adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Our focus has been to support their national campaigning that challenges impunity for abuse committed in the region’s Catholic Church, but we have since expanded the scope of our work to cover institutional settings more broadly.
CRIN’s added value in the campaign includes providing much-needed financial support and capacity building, research support, international and legal advocacy and helping to expand partnerships. By working with survivor-led networks, we aim to encourage their development across the region so that governments can no longer ignore their demands for truth, justice, reforms, and reparations.
This is who we are looking for…
We are looking for someone to coordinate the end-to-end delivery of the campaign. The focus of the role is on project and budget management, strategy planning and implementation, and partnership building. But given the generalist nature of campaigning, you may at times conduct advocacy support, media outreach, research and analysis, and event coordination.
You would work alongside the Legal Advocacy and Campaign Coordinator, as well as part of the core project team comprising the Co-Directors and the Legal and Policy Coordinator.
Your responsibilities will include:
● Leading the delivery of CRIN’s campaign supporting grassroots organisations in Latin America to end impunity for child sexual abuse in institutional settings.
● Building and maintaining trust-based partnerships with grassroots survivor-led networks in Latin America, ensuring engagement is anti-colonial, trauma-informed and participatory.
● Building partnerships with key allies, such as civil society groups, journalists, academics, legal experts, consultants and funders.
● Managing the campaign budget and related administrative tasks, including partnership contracts and sub-granting.
● Providing advocacy, research, and administrative support to partners, as needed.
● Organising capacity-building events to support partners’ organisational development.
● Providing occasional research and writing support to colleagues in the production of advocacy materials, including submissions to human rights bodies and research reports.
● Managing project communications, including updating the campaign webpage, leading on media outreach, coordinating the production of research reports and translating all project materials.
● Working with CRIN’s communications staff to create content for the website, social media, and newsletter.
● Managing the campaign’s Monitoring and Evaluation, recording, and reporting actions, deliverables, and learnings, including coordinating annual progress reports to our funder.
● Participating in regular project meetings to discuss developments, address any issues and plan the next stages of the work.

We are looking for someone with the following attributes:
● Professional experience or interest in issues related to access to justice for survivors of childhood sexual violence.

Some examples include Scotland’s Climate Assembly, the Budapest Climate Assembly, a citizens’ jury on assisted dying in Jersey, the UK government’s Public Advisory Group on COVID-19, and many community panels in Australia for councils in Victoria.

Developed a network of democracy organisations campaigning for the institutionalisation of citizens’ assemblies; we have an ongoing campaign to replace the House of Lords with a House of Citizens, have developed and tested messaging and framing guides for communicating our campaign goals, and have laid the groundwork for this transformative democratic change.

The role
As a member of the Advancement Office Senior Management Team, the Associate Director, Advancement Services will effectively lead and develop the teams, systems and processes which provide operational support to the department. Leading the data, research, finance and business administration functions, you will motivate and develop the Advancement Services team to provide an excellent service to the department and wider university, building and delivering on short, medium and longer term plans to develop and enhance existing systems, processes and practices.
You will have overall responsibility for the database, working with the Database Manager to ensure its accuracy and effectiveness, and will oversee the provision of data and insights to support data informed decision making across philanthropy, integrated fundraising and supporter engagement activity, in order to maximise engagement, philanthropic income and volunteering from constituents.

Cancer Grand Challenges is a global funding initiative founded in 2020 by the two largest funders of cancer research in the world: Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in the US (www.cancergrandchallenges.org).
Cancer Grand Challenges supports a global community of world-class, interdisciplinary research teams to come together, think differently and take on some of cancer's toughest challenges, with the ultimate aim of transforming outcomes for people affected by cancer.
Like the global teams we fund, our team is multidisciplinary - including specialists in cancer science, research grant funding, marketing and communications, patient involvement, partnerships and philanthropy.
We are looking for an experienced Grants Finance and Contracts Manager with a strong background in finance and contract management to support the Cancer Grand Challenges initiative.
This role provides and exciting opportunity to help manage large multi-million-pound contracts and work with our partners to ensure we work together productively to fund ground-breaking cancer research. Alongside this, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to use their strong financial reporting and management skills to help ensure our multi-million-pound research budget is being deployed effectively.

What will I be doing?
Maintain systems to track financial data associated with CGC applications and awards, provide management information relating to CGC research finance and act as the primary CGC team contact for all questions related to CGC financial award data;
Lead the management of contracts between CRUK and NCI which provide the framework for the CGC initiative, including ensuring compliance with contractual terms and obligations, and take the lead in producing all necessary reports and information for submission to NCI - including accurate and compliant financial reporting;
Work closely with CGC leadership and colleagues across CRUK (e.g. Legal, Finance and Strategic Partnerships) to support all contractual negotiations with future funding partners;
Ensure compliance with contracts between CRUK and other CGC funding partners and take the lead in producing all necessary reports and information - including accurate and compliant financial reporting;
Ensure compliance with all other CGC contracts, as required;
Work closely with colleagues internally and externally, where appropriate, to coordinate the execution of CGC Award Agreements with Cancer Grand Challenges funded teams and institutions;
Lead the management of all CGC Award Agreements including monitoring grant expenditure, determining future grant values and overseeing the release of grants payments;
Implement, oversee and refine the CGC grants audit approach;
Support the CGC Leadership Team in preparation for, and submissions to, any external or internal audit requests;
Advise funded teams and institutions on grants finance and audit requirements, and other funding policies as required;
Continually review all relevant processes and procedures, to ensure they remain fit for purpose and reflect current best practice;
Develop and maintain excellent relationships with key individuals at NCI and other funding partners in order to support the development of productive partnerships to support CGC and maximise emerging opportunities, working closely with CRUK colleagues to ensure alignment with broader relationship management plans;
Act as primary CGC team contact for other CRUK departments involved in CGC contracts including Finance, Legal, Data Governance, Procurement and Grants Management.
What are you looking for?
Very strong financial literacy, including relevant experience of managing budgets, financial reporting and analysing data;
Extensive experience of developing, reviewing and managing compliance for complex contracts, ideally within the academic sector;
Experience in managing day-to-day relationships between contract partners to ensure contractual compliance and providing advice where needed;
Experience of relevant financial management and reporting processes tied to contracts including an awareness of annual budget and forecasting cycles;
Experience of handling and/or making audit requests;
Strong stakeholder management experience with both internal colleagues and external organisations;
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret and explain complex information in a creative and engaging way, and an ability to deal with sensitive information in a professional way, demonstrating a high level of self-awareness at all times;
Numerate and analytically minded, with an aptitude to resolving day-to-day problems by developing innovative, robust and pragmatic solutions, implemented with attention to detail;
Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications and Office 360.
