Tree Equity Scores bring together multiple datasets, such as deprivation, heat, canopy cover and more, to provide a single figure that illustrates an area's need for urban trees. The Tree Equity for Hartlepool project marks the first town-wide approach in the UK to address low Tree Equity scores across an entire urban area. This multi-partner project, led by Trees for Cities, will work across planting, engagement and awareness raising of the urban forest.
Working with Hartlepool Borough Council, Trees on Tees Community Forest, The Woodland Trust, Thirteen Group housing association and Treeconomics, this partnership brings together major local landowners alongside national tree specialists to deliver a programme of work over two years - and is seeking a Project Community Coordinator to drive the work forward.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As Project Community Coordinator, you will be responsible for bridging this flagship work to the community and connecting residents in Hartlepool with their urban forest. This will include leading engagement activities with residents across the town, aiming to inspire residents to plant, protect and promote urban trees. You will lead outreach and volunteer activities, working closely with project partners to coordinate and deliver tree planting and educational workshops, public tree planting events and other activities.
The role will involve a mix of office-based and outdoor work and requires a confident, well-organised and friendly individual who can both confidently lead workshops and act as a spokesperson for the charity and urban forestry with the local community. You will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with volunteers, and this will be key to success, ensuring the project gets the results the community needs.
You will work under the steer of the Project Manager and be the face of both the project and Trees for Cities in the local and Tees Valley area.
As Trees for Cities looks ahead to its next strategic period, this project is a key flagship piece of work, and the role will be required to represent the partnership and associated work being done. In delivering a successful project, the case will be made for addressing low Tree Equity scores at the local and national level, influencing decision makers to best support urban forestry.
This project is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Your role will be multi-faceted, and you will therefore be flexible and able to offer a variety of SRH interventions in a broad range of settings, to a broad range of young people.
First, you will provide brief interventions in sexual health in an outreach capacity at schools, colleges, universities, leisure centres, youth organisations, and other venues. Do you have razor sharp news sense, a flair for storytelling, experience of working in PR or as a journalist and a real desire to play your part in bringing positive change to one of the country’s biggest social issues? Then join Shelter as Media Manager and you could soon be playing a linchpin role in our fight to end the housing emergency.
About the role
This is your opportunity to play a big part in the day-to-day running of our busy press office, and a central role in developing both proactive and reactive media strands. As well as engaging with senior management and journalists on a daily basis, we’ll rely on you to deputise for the Head of Media when needed, and to provide invaluable support on reputational and crisis communications. Planning strategically vital campaigns – including our Winter Appeal, acting as reputational gatekeeper, and contributing to the management and ongoing development of the media team – are just some aspects of this challenging, high reward role that will see you thrive.
Role specifics
Creative, results driven, and politically savvy, you are comfortable with leading change and initiating action even under difficult circumstances. You are an excellent writer and totally at home with translating complex research and policy into pithy soundbites and key messages – a skill you’ll be eager to share with your colleagues who want to learn from a pro.
You don’t just sit back and contemplate. You spot risks and opportunities, and challenge when you need to. Crucially, you already have senior level experience of public relations/press management, ideally gained at a charity/think tank/political party/PR agency or working as a journalist. As a result, you understand the inner workings of the media, what makes a story and how to influence the ever-changing news agenda.
You have extensive knowledge of different media channels and tactics, and your communication and relationship building skills are second to none. You’re confident influencing and negotiating at all levels – including with external partners, including handling crisis communications with diligence and sensitivity.
When it comes to empowering your line recruits and colleagues to deliver to the highest standard, your approachability and expertise all come to the fore. Finally, while prior knowledge of housing and homelessness isn’t a must have, you’ll need a passion for social justice. After all, there’s a huge amount we need to achieve together, and you’ll be playing a big part.
Apply to be part of our team and be the change you want to see in society.
Benefits
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.
About the team
Operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, our media team responds to emerging news stories in a politically charged environment. Sometimes that means pulling a group of key stakeholders together and getting our message out the door within the hour. But the team also generates their own engaging and attention-grabbing headlines through our proactive campaigns and big brand moments.
Our work needs to be top-notch because Shelter’s reputation is at stake. But despite the profile and speed of our work, we’re a really friendly, open team where your input, ideas and questions will always be welcomed. A place where you needn’t be afraid to put your point across or challenge the status quo. We’ve achieved some great results too, with recent campaign successes including the Social Housing Regulation Act becoming law, persuading the government to unfreeze Housing Benefit from April 2024, meaning more families can afford their rent, and last but not least pushing forward the Renters’ Rights Bill, ensuring it is as strong as possible to protect renters as it passes through Parliament. In short, no matter what we’re faced with, we get things done.
About Shelter

We exist to defend the right to a safe home. Because home is everything.

In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, equitable and transparent. We are committed to combating racism both within and outside Shelter. We welcome you on our journey to becoming truly anti-racist.

Do you have a passion for God’s mission in London?
Do you have a heart for people who are least likely to hear the gospel?
Do you love helping other Christians to share their faith with greater confidence and to make mission happen in practical ways?
At London City Mission, we want to see Jesus Christ known in every community across London. To do this we develop partnerships with churches, often in communities where people are least likely to hear the gospel. Our teams aim to help churches develop greater confidence and effectiveness in their mission to reach their own local communities. We are now looking for a number of Mission Associates to join us to be involved in this vital work, and to help mission happen through local churches in our diverse city. We will train, develop and support you to help you build on what you already bring, so that you can be the best you can be in your role, and to help you develop further your own missional skills and experience.
This city is home to people whose everyday experience can be one of rejection and helplessness or who come from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds where they have no friend who can share the gospel or take them to church. Our vision is to see both churches and individuals equipped and empowered to reach the communities around them. This means equipping and mobilising churches to be more intentional and effective in their mission.
London City Mission is recruiting to a number of mission outreach roles based in various locations across London. In the Mission Associate role, you will work as part of our teams to:
- Collaborate with and equip churches in evangelism to those who are marginalised or least likely to hear the gospel in their local area
- Contribute to the development of sustainable, structured, innovative missional teams in local churches
- Do mission research and mapping of the mission needs and opportunities in a local area
- Contribute to networking with churches in a local area by, for example, building a list of churches and connecting them with the right LCM colleagues with a view to mission partnership.
The roles we are looking to fill will involve ministering in the following locations:
- Mission Associate, shared between our teams in Hounslow & Ealing and Harrow & North Brent with a focus on reaching South Asian communities through our Islam and Other Religions specialism, with a particular focus on people from Hindu and Sikh backgrounds
- Mission Associate in Islington with a focus on Council Estates and Seniors*
- Mission Associate in South London with a focus on Council Estates and Seniors*
- Mission Associate in Barking & Dagenham and Havering with a focus on Homeless and Marginalised ministries.
*Women are under-represented in the Council Estates and Seniors (CES) specialism in LCM, so we would particularly welcome applications from women for the Islington and South London roles. The right candidates for all roles will, of course, be appointed on merit alone.
You would be joining LCM at an exciting time as we take forward our new five-year strategy. Our aim over the next five years is to see 150 new missional teams established in churches across London. These missional teams are groups of church members who “own” outreach to a particular group, are recognised by the leadership, and pray for each other, using their varied gifts regularly to minister to that group. We pray that, together by 2029, these teams will be part of 25,000 gospel conversations within communities where Jesus Christ isn't known.
Our Mission Associates are wholly committed followers of Jesus who bring their passion and skills to contribute to the work of our teams, helping to research the mission needs of an area, supporting networking with churches, helping to train and equip church volunteers in practical evangelism, or helping churches develop their mission work. Successful candidates will be able to prove their ability to contribute to our field teams in these ways. Our professional and established internal training team and your line manager and others, will train, develop and support you in your role so that you develop your own missional skills and evangelism experience.
If this sounds like you, please visit our website and download the Job Description for more information.
There is an occupational requirement that the people appointed to these roles will be evangelical Christians. The Occupational Requirement provision of the Equality Act 2010 applies. The appointed candidates will be required to undertake a DBS check.

About Woman's Trust
Woman’s Trust was established almost thirty years ago and is the leading specialist in mental health services for women. Led by and for women, it aims to ensure that women affected by domestic abuse can live a safe and healthy life, free from further harm. Our approach is trauma-informed and person-centred, empowering survivors on their journey to recover from the trauma. We support 900 women and children annually, with an income of £1.3m and 40 staff. We are committed to a positive, inclusive and equitable environment for our staff, service users and volunteers. Alongside our current service provision, we are focused on developing innovative mental health services for young women and girls, launching peer-led support groups and providing therapeutic groups to children and their mothers. We are also committed to developing further awareness-raising workshops and training for professionals, building on our research and policy expertise to improve systems nationally. As demand for our service grows, we are ambitious to double the number of women we support each year, achieved in large part through the success of our fundraising team in increasing our income.
About the role
Woman’s Trust is looking for an interim Senior Communications Consultant to support the delivery of our ambitious organisational strategy, and our goal to ensure more survivors of domestic abuse have access to the mental healthcare they need.
We are looking for someone with a minimum of five years’ senior media relations experience within the VAWG or mental health sectors. This is essential as we work at the intersection of both policy areas and need someone who understands the unique position that puts us in, in terms of the services we provide and our expertise.
We are looking for someone proactive, with a keen eye for uncovering news stories within an organisation and spotting opportunities to respond to issues in the media or more widely.
Applicants must also be able to demonstrate they have secured recent print and broadcast press coverage and that they have experience supporting vulnerable survivors with media work.
The priorities will be to:
- Generate media coverage using case studies, data, research, spokespeople and in response to the news agenda (newsjacking)
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists
- Support senior staff and domestic abuse survivors with media work and speaking at events
- Review and update our website
- Monitor, manage and engage with communities proactively and reactively across our social media channels, including creating content
- Support the development of a communications strategy to underpin the organisational strategy
- Provide senior communications counsel and advice to the CEO, Chair and Senior Leadership Team
- Work and develop relationships with colleagues across the VAWG and mental health sectors in support of shared communications objectives
- Represent the organisation as and when needed at external events or media events
We’re looking for someone to come and join our friendly and dedicated team based in London for a period of three to four months while we re-assess our requirements internally and recruit for the position permanently.
The consultant will be expected to provide regular updates on progress and will be supported with an induction with team members from across the organisation.
Please note that this is an interim consultancy assignment and not a salaried role. The consultant will be engaged on a self-employed basis or via a limited company, with a clear scope of work and deliverables.
To find out more and apply with your CV, please visit our website via the apply button.
Closing date: Noon on Thursday, 24th April 2025.
Please note, this post is open to female applicants only – Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1 applies.
This role will be subject to a DBS check.
